When Ibn Ziyad and Marwan were in Sham and Ibn Az-Zubair took over the authority in Mecca and
Qurra' (the Kharijites) revolted in Basra, I went out with my father to Abu Barza Al-Aslami till we
entered upon him in his house while he was sitting in the shade of a room built of cane. So we sat with
him and my father started talking to him saying, "O Abu Barza! Don't you see in what dilemma the
people has fallen?" The first thing heard him saying "I seek reward from Allah for myself because of
being angry and scornful at the Quraish tribe. O you Arabs! You know very well that you were in
misery and were few in number and misguided, and that Allah has brought you out of all that with
Islam and with Muhammad till He brought you to this state (of prosperity and happiness) which you
see now; and it is this worldly wealth and pleasures which has caused mischief to appear among you.
The one who is in Sham (i.e., Marwan), by Allah, is not fighting except for the sake of worldly gain:
and those who are among you, by Allah, are not fighting except for the sake of worldly gain; and that
one who is in Mecca (i.e., Ibn Az-Zubair) by Allah, is not fighting except for the sake of worldly
gain."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 92, Hadith 59
"Abu Musa led us in prayer and when he was sitting, a man from among the people entered and said: 'Prayer is based on righteousness and is always mentioned alongside Zakah (in the Qur'an).' When Abu Musa had said the Salam, he turned to the people and said: 'Which of you spoke these words?' The people kept quiet. Then he said: 'O Hittan, perhaps you said it?' He said: 'No, but I was afraid that you would rebuke me for it.' He said:
'The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) taught us our prayer and Sunnah prayers, and he said: The Imam is appointed to be followed, so when he says the Takbir, say the Takbir; when he says
"Not (the way) of those who earned Your Anger, nor of those who went astray," say Amin, and Allah will respond to you; when he rises up from bowing and says, 'Sami' Allalhu liman hamidah (Allah hears those who praise Him), say 'Rabbana lakal-hamd (Our Lord, to
You be praise),' and Allah will hear you; when he prostrates, prostrate, and when he sits up, sit up. The Imam should prostrate before you
do and sit up before you do.' The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'This makes up for that.'"
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 10, Hadith 54
‘Ali sent some gold-mixed dust to the prophet (May peace be upon him). He divided it among the four : al-Aqra b. Habis al-Hanzall and then al-Mujashi, uyainah b. Badr al-fazari, zaid al-khail al-Ta’l, next to one of Banu nabhan, and ‘Alqamah b. ‘Ulathat al-Amiri (in general), next to one of Banu kulaib. The Quraish and the ansar became angry and said : He is giving to the chiefs of the people of Najd and leaving us. He said : I am giving them for reconciliation of their hearts. Then a man with deep-seated eyes, high cheek-bones, a projecting brow, a thick beard and a shaven head came forward and said: For Allah, Muhammad! He said : Who will obey Allah if I disobey Him? Allah entrusts me with power over the inhabitants of the earth, but you do not. A man asked to be allowed to kill him and I think he was Khalid b. al-Walid but he prevented him. Then when the man turned away, he said: From this one’s stock there will be people who recite the Quran, but it will not pass down their throats. They will sever from Islam and leave the worshippers of Idols alone; but if I live up to their time I shall certainly kill them as 'Ad were killed.
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 42, Hadith 169
There is a state of war between people and we fear that they would detain you, whereupon he ('Abdullah b. Umar) said:" Verily in the Messenger of Allah there is a model pattern for you." I would do as Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) did. I call you as witness that I have undertaken to perform 'Umra. He then set out until, when he reached the rear side of al-Baida', he said: There is one command both for Hajj and Umra. so bear witness. Ibn Rumh said: I call you as witness that I have undertaken to perform my Hajjalong with my Umra (i. e. I am performing both of them as Qiran), and he offered the sacrifice of animals which he had bought at Qudaid. He then proceeded pronouncing Talbiya for both of them together until he reached Mecca, He circumambulated the House. and (ran) between al-Safa' and al-Marwa and made no addition to it. He neither sacrificed the animal, nor got his head shaved, nor got his hair clipped, nor did he make anything lawful which was unlawful (due to Ihram) until it was the Day of Sacrifice (10th of Dhu'l-Hijja). He then offered sacrifice, and got his hair cut, and saw that circumambulation of Hajj and 'Umra was complete with the first circumambulation. Ibn 'Umar said: This is how Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had done.
Sahih Muslim Book 15, Hadith 200
Hudhayfah saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) praying at night. He said: Allah is most great" three times, "Possessor of kingdom, grandeur, greatness and majesty."
He then began (his prayer) and recited Surah al-Baqarah; then he bowed and he paused in bowing as long as he stood up; he said while bowing, "Glory be to my mighty Lord," "Glory be to my mighty Lord" ; then he raised his head, after bowing: then he stood up and he paused as long as he paused in bowing and said, "Praise be to my Lord" ; then he prostrated and paused in prostration as long as he paused in the standing position; he said while prostrating: "Glory be to my most high Lord"; then he raised his head after prostration, and sat as long as he prostrated, and said while sitting: "O my Lord forgive me."
He offered four rak'ahs of prayer and recited in them Surah al-Baqarah, Aal Imran, an-Nisa, al-Ma'idah, or al-An'am. The narrator Shu'bah doubted.
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 2, Hadith 484
"The first instance of Qasamah during the Jahiliyyah involved a man from Banu Hashim who was employed by a man from Quraish, from another branch of the tribe. He went out with him, driving his camels and another man from Banu Hashim passed by them. The leather rope of that man's bag broke, so he said (to the hired worker): 'Help me by giving me a rope with which to tie the handle of my bag, lest the camels run away from me. 'So he gave him a rope and he tied his gab with it. When they halted, all the camels' legs were hobbled except one camel. The one who had hired him said: 'Why is his camel, out of all of them, not hobbled? He said: 'There is no rope for it. He said: 'Where is its rope? He said: A man from Banu Hashim passed by and the leather rope of his bag had broken, and he asked me to help him; he said: "Help me by giving me a rope with which to tie the handle of my bag lest the camels run away from me, so I gave him a rope . " He struck him with a stick, which led to his death. Then a man from Yemen passed by him (the man from Banu Hashim, (the man from Banu Hashim, just before he died) and he (the Hashimi man) said: 'Are you going to attend the Pilgrimage? He said: 'I do not think I will attend it, but perhaps I will attend it.' He said: 'Will you convey a message from me once in your lifetime? He said: 'Yes. 'He said: 'If you attend the pilgrimage, then call out, O family of Quraish! If they respond, then call out, O family of Hashim! If they respond, then ask for Abu Talib, and tell him that so and so killed me for a rope.' Then the hired worker died. When the one who had hired him cam, Abu Talib went to him and said: 'What happened to our companion? He said: 'He fell sick and I took good care of him, but he died, so I stopped and buried him.' He said: 'He deserved that from you. 'Some time passed, then the Yemeni man who had been asked to convey the message arrived at the time of the pilgrimage. He said: 'O family of Quraish! And they said: 'Here is Quraish.' He said: 'O family of Banu Hashim! They said: 'Here is Banu Hashim.' He said" 'Where is Abu Talib? He said: 'Here is Abu Talib.' He said: 'so and so asked me to convey a message to you, that so and so killed him for a camel's rope.' Abu Talib went to him and said" 'Choose one of three alternatives that we are offering you. If you wish, you may give us one hundred camels, because you killed our companion by mistake: or if you wish, fifty of your men may swear an oath that you did not kill him; or if you wish, we will kill you in retaliation. 'He went to his people and told them about that, and they said: 'We will swear the oath.' Then a woman from Banu Hashim, who was married to one of their men and had born him a child, came to Abu Talib and said:' O Abu Talib, I wish that my son, who is one of these fifty men, should be excused from having to take the oath., So the excused him. Then one of the men came to him and said: 'O Abu Talib, you want fifty men to take the oath in lieu of one hundred camels, which means that each man may give two camels instead, so here are two camels; take them from me, and do not make me take the oath.' So he accepted them, and did not make him take the oath. Then forty-eight men came and took the oath." Ibn 'Abbas said: "By the One in Whose hand is my soul, by the time a year has passed, none of those forty-eight men remained alive."
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 45, Hadith 1
When Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) emigrated to Medina, Abu Bakr and Bilal had a fever. I entered upon them and
said, "O my father! How are you? O Bilal! How are you?" Whenever Abu Bakr got the fever he used
to say, "Everybody is staying alive with his people, yet death is nearer to him than his shoe laces."
And when fever deserted Bilal, he would recite (two poetic verses): "Would that I could stay
overnight in a valley wherein I would be surrounded by Idhkhir and Jalil (two kinds of good smelling
grass). Would that one day I could drink of the water of Majinna, and would that Shama and Tafil
(two mountains at Mecca) would appear to me!" I went to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and informed him about
that. He said, "O Allah! Make us love Medina as much or more than we love Mecca, and make it
healthy, and bless its Sa and its Mudd, and take away its fever and put it in Al-Juhfa." (See Hadith No
558) .
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 75, Hadith 37
“We were with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and Amr bin Murrah came and said: 'O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), Allah (SWT) has decreed that I be doomed, and He has not guided me to earn a living except by beating my tambourine with my hand; give me permission to sing without doing anything immoral.' The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'I will not give you permission, or honor you nor give you, what you want. You are lying, O enemy of Allah. Allah (SWT) has granted you a good, lawful provision, but you have chosen the provision that Allah (SWT) has forbidden to you instead of that which He has permitted. If I had warned you before, I would have done such and such to you. Get away from me and repent to Allah (SWT). If you do that again, after this warning, I will give you a painful beating and shave your head, to make an example of you, and I will banish you from among your people, and tell the young men of Al-Madinah to come and take your goods,'Amr stood up, suffering grief and humiliation that is known only to Allah (SWT).
When he went away, the Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'Those sinners, whoever among them dies without having repented, Allah (SWT) will gather him on the Day of Resurrection just as he was in this world, effeminate and naked, with not even a piece of cloth to conceal him from the people. Every time he gets up, he will fall to the ground.'”
Sunan Ibn Majah Book 20, Hadith 81
A man passed by Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and the Prophet (ﷺ) asked a man sitting beside him, "What is your
opinion about this (passer-by)?" He replied, "This (passer-by) is from the noble class of people. By
Allah, if he should ask for a lady's hand in marriage, he ought to be given her in marriage, and if he
intercedes for somebody, his intercession will be accepted. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) kept quiet, and then
another man passed by and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) asked the same man (his companion) again, "What is your
opinion about this (second) one?" He said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! This person is one of the poor
Muslims. If he should ask a lady's hand in marriage, no-one will accept him, and if he intercedes for
somebody, no one will accept his intercession, and if he talks, no-one will listen to his talk." Then
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "This (poor man) is better than such a large number of the first type (i.e. rich
men) as to fill the earth."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 81, Hadith 36
One of the sons of Abu Talha became sick and died and Abu Talha at that time was not at home.
When his wife saw that he was dead, she prepared him (washed and shrouded him) and placed him
somewhere in the house. When Abu Talha came, he asked, "How is the boy?" She said, "The child is
quiet and I hope he is in peace." Abu Talha thought that she had spoken the truth. Abu Talha passed
the night and in the morning took a bath and when he intended to go out, she told him that his son had
died, Abu Talha offered the (morning) prayer with the Prophet (ﷺ) and informed the Prophet (ﷺ) of what
happened to them. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "May Allah bless you concerning your night. (That is, may
Allah bless you with good offspring)." Sufyan said, "One of the Ansar said, 'They (i.e. Abu Talha and
his wife) had nine sons and all of them became reciters of the Qur'an (by heart).' "
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 23, Hadith 59
Mujammi' was one of the Qur'an-reciters (qaris), and he said: We were present with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) at al-Hudaybiyyah. When we returned, the people were driving their camels quickly.
The people said to one another: What is the matter with them?
They said: Revelation has come down to the Prophet (ﷺ). We also proceeded with the people, galloping (our camels). We found the Prophet (ﷺ) standing on his riding-animal at Kura' al-Ghamim.
When the people gathered near him, he recited: "Verily We have granted thee a manifest victory.
A man asked: Is this a victory, Messenger of Allah? He replied: Yes. By Him in Whose hands the soul of Muhammad is, this is a victory. Khaybar was divided among those who had been at al-Hudaybiyyah, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) divided it into eighteen portions. The army consisted of one thousand five hundred men, of which three hundred were cavalry, and he gave two shares to a horseman and one to a foot-soldier.
Abu Dawud said: Abu Mu'awiyah's tradition is sounder, and it is one which is followed. I think the error is in the tradition of Mujammi', because he said: "three hundred horsemen." when there were only two hundred.
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 15, Hadith 260
When the news of the arrival of the Prophet (ﷺ) at Medina reached `Abdullah bin Salam, he went to him
to ask him about certain things, He said, "I am going to ask you about three things which only a
Prophet can answer: What is the first sign of The Hour? What is the first food which the people of
Paradise will eat? Why does a child attract the similarity to his father or to his mother?" The Prophet (ﷺ)
replied, "Gabriel has just now informed me of that." Ibn Salam said, "He (i.e. Gabriel) is the enemy of
the Jews amongst the angels. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "As for the first sign of The Hour, it will be a fire that
will collect the people from the East to the West. As for the first meal which the people of Paradise
will eat, it will be the caudate (extra) lobe of the fish-liver. As for the child, if the man's discharge
proceeds the woman's discharge, the child attracts the similarity to the man, and if the woman's
discharge proceeds the man's, then the child attracts the similarity to the woman."
On this, `Abdullah bin Salam said, "I testify that None has the right to be worshipped except Allah,
and that you are the Messenger of Allah." and added, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Jews invent such lies as make
one astonished, so please ask them about me before they know about my conversion to I slam . " The
Jews came, and the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "What kind of man is `Abdullah bin Salam among you?" They
replied, "The best of us and the son of the best of us and the most superior among us, and the son of
the most superior among us. "The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "What would you think if `Abdullah bin Salam should
embrace Islam?" They said, "May Allah protect him from that." The Prophet (ﷺ) repeated his question and
they gave the same answer. Then `Abdullah came out to them and said, "I testify that None has the
right to be worshipped except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah!" On this, the Jews
said, "He is the most wicked among us and the son of the most wicked among us." So they degraded
him. On this, he (i.e. `Abdullah bin Salam) said, "It is this that I was afraid of, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ).
