I asked Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) about the Mi'rad. He said, "If you hit the game with its sharp edge, eat it, but if
the Mi'rad hits the game with its shaft with a hit by its broad side do not eat it, for it has been beaten to
death with a piece of wood. (i.e. unlawful)." I asked, "If I let loose my trained hound after a game?"
He said, "If you let loose your trained hound after game, and mention the name of Allah, then you can
eat." I said, "If the hound eats of the game?" He said "Then you should not eat of it, for the hound has
hunted the game for itself and not for you." I said, "Some times I send my hound and then I find some
other hound with it?" He said "Don't eat the game, as you have mentioned the Name of Allah on your
dog only and not on the other."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 72, Hadith 2
“I came to `Abdullah bin `Amr and said to him: ‘Report something to me that you heard from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).’ So he set forth before me a scroll and said: ‘This is what the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) wrote for me.’” He said: “So I looked in it and found in it: ‘Indeed, Abu Bakr As-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, said: “O Messenger of Allah, teach me what to say at morning and afternoon.” He said: “O Abu Bakr, say: ‘O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, there is none worthy of worship except You, Lord of everything and its Owner, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my soul and from the evil of Shaitan and his Shirk, or that I should do some evil to myself or bring it upon a Muslim (Allāhumma fāṭiras-samāwāti wal-arḍi, `ālimal-ghaibi wash-shahādati, lā ilāha illā anta, rabba kulli shai’in wa malīkahu, a`ūdhu bika min sharri nafsī wa min sharrish-shaiṭāni wa sharakihi, wa an aqtarifa `alā nafsī sū’an, aw ajurrahu ilā muslim).’”
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 48, Hadith 160
I heard Hisham bin Hakim bin Hizam reciting Surat-al-Furqan during the lifetime of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ),
and I listened to his recitation and noticed that he recited it in several ways which Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had
not taught me. So I was on the point of attacking him in the prayer, but I waited till he finished his
prayer, and then I seized him by the collar and said, "Who taught you this Surah which I have heard
you reciting?" He replied, "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) taught it to me." I said, "You are telling a lie; By Allah!
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) taught me (in a different way) this very Surah which I have heard you reciting." So I
took him, leading him to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! I heard this person reciting
Surat-al-Furqan in a way that you did not teach me, and you have taught me Surat-al-Furqan." The
Prophet said, "O Hisham, recite!" So he recited in the same way as I heard him recite it before. On
that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "It was revealed to be recited in this way." Then Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said,
"Recite, O `Umar!" So I recited it as he had taught me. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) then said, "It was revealed to
be recited in this way." Allah" Apostle added, "The Qur'an has been revealed to be recited in several
different ways, so recite of it that which is easier for you."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 66, Hadith 65
Abu Bakr came from his house at As-Sunh on a horse. He dismounted and entered the Mosque, but
did not speak to the people till he entered upon `Aisha and went straight to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) who was
covered with Hibra cloth (i.e. a kind of Yemenite cloth). He then uncovered the Prophet's face and
bowed over him and kissed him and wept, saying, "Let my father and mother be sacrificed for you. By
Allah, Allah will never cause you to die twice. As for the death which was written for you, has come
upon you."
Narrated Ibn `Abbas: Abu Bakr went out while `Umar bin Al-Khattab was talking to the people. Abu
Bakr said, "Sit down, O `Umar!" But `Umar refused to sit down. So the people came to Abu Bakr and
left `Umar. Abu Bakr said, "To proceed, if anyone amongst you used to worship Muhammad , then
Muhammad is dead, but if (anyone of) you used to worship Allah, then Allah is Alive and shall never
die. Allah said:--"Muhammad is no more than an Apostle, and indeed (many) apostles have passed
away before him..(till the end of the Verse )......Allah will reward to those who are thankful." (3.144)
By Allah, it was as if the people never knew that Allah had revealed this Verse before till Abu Bakr
recited it and all the people received it from him, and I heard everybody reciting it (then).
Narrated Az-Zuhri: Sa`id bin Al-Musaiyab told me that `Umar said, "By Allah, when I heard Abu
Bakr reciting it, my legs could not support me and I fell down at the very moment of hearing him
reciting it, declaring that the Prophet (ﷺ) had died."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 64, Hadith 472
I went to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and he was sitting under the shade of the Ka'ba. As he saw me he said: By the Lord of the Ka'ba, they are the losers. I came there till I sat and I could not stay (longer) and (then) stood up. I said: Messenger of Allah, let my father, be ransom for you, who are they (the losers)? He said: They are those having a huge amount of wealth except so and so and (those who spend their wealth generously on them whom they find in front of them, behind them and on their right side and on their left side) and they are a few. And no owner of camels, or cattle or goat and sheep, who does not pay Zakat (would be spared punishment) but these (camels, cattle, goats and sheep) would come on the Day of Resurrection wearing more flesh and would gore him with their horns and trample them with their hooves. And when the last one would pass away, the first one would return (to trample him) till judgment would be pronounced among people.
Sahih Muslim Book 12, Hadith 37
We were at a place which was a thoroughfare for the people, and the caravans used to pass by us and
we would ask them, "What is wrong with the people? What is wrong with the people? Who is that
man?. They would say, "That man claims that Allah has sent him (as an Apostle), that he has been
divinely inspired, that Allah has revealed to him such-and-such." I used to memorize that (Divine)
Talk, and feel as if it was inculcated in my chest (i.e. mind) And the 'Arabs (other than Quraish)
delayed their conversion to Islam till the Conquest (of Mecca). They used to say." "Leave him (i.e.
Muhammad) and his people Quraish: if he overpowers them then he is a true Prophet. So, when
Mecca was conquered, then every tribe rushed to embrace Islam, and my father hurried to embrace
Islam before (the other members of) my tribe. When my father returned (from the Prophet) to his
tribe, he said, "By Allah, I have come to you from the Prophet (ﷺ) for sure!" The Prophet (ﷺ) afterwards said
to them, 'Offer such-and-such prayer at such-and-such time, and when the time for the prayer becomes
due, then one of you should pronounce the Adhan (for the prayer), and let the one amongst you who
knows Qur'an most should, lead the prayer." So they looked for such a person and found none who
knew more Qur'an than I because of the Qur'anic material which I used to learn from the caravans.
They therefore made me their Imam ((to lead the prayer) and at that time I was a boy of six or seven
years, wearing a Burda (i.e. a black square garment) proved to be very short for me (and my body
became partly naked). A lady from the tribe said, "Won't you cover the anus of your reciter for us?"
So they bought (a piece of cloth) and made a shirt for me. I had never been so happy with anything
before as I was with that shirt.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 64, Hadith 335
When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sat on his camel to go out on a journey, he said: "Allah is Most Great" three times. Then he said: "Glory be to Him Who has made subservient to us, for we had not the strength for it, and to our Lord do we return. O Allah, we ask Thee in this journey of ours, uprightness, piety and such deeds as are pleasing to Thee. O Allah, make easy for us this journey of ours and make its length short for us. O Allah, Thou art the Companion in the journey, and the One Who looks after the family and property in our absence." When he returned, he said these words adding: "Returning, repentant, serving and praising our Lord." The Prophet (ﷺ) and his armies said: "Allah is Most Great" when they went up to high ground; and when armies said: "Allah is most Great" when they went up to high ground; and when they descended, they said: "Glory be to Allah." So the prayer was patterned on that.
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 15, Hadith 123
"The Messenger of Allah taught us the Tashah-hud for Salat and the Tashah-hud for Al-Hajjah." He said: "The Tashah-hud for Salat is: (At-Tahiyyatulilah, was-walawtu wat-tayyibatu. As-Salamu alaika ayyuhan-Nabiyyu wa rahmatullilahi wa barakatuhu, As-Salamu alina wa ala ibadillahis-salihin. Ashahadu an la ilaha illallah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan abduha wa Raduluh.) 'All greetings, prayers, and pure words are for Allah. Peace be upon you O Prophet, and Allah's mercy and His blessings. Peace be upon us and all of the righteous worshippers of Allah. I testify that none has the right to be worshiped but Allah. and I testify that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger."And the Tashah-hud for Al-Hajjah is: 'Indeed all praise is due to Allah, we seek His aid, and we seek His forgiveness, and we seek refuge with Allah from the evils of our souls and the mischief of our deeds. (Innal-Hamdlillahi nasta'inuhu, wa nastaghfirhu, wa na'udhu billahi min sharuri anfusina, wa sayy'ita a'malina, man yahdihi, sala mudilla lahu, wa manyudlil, fala Hadiya lahu, wa ashadu an la ilaha illallah wa ashadu anna Muhammadan abduhu wa Rasuluh) 'Whoever He guides - meaning Allah - then here is none to lead him astray, and whomever He misleads, then there is no guide for him. I testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and I testify that Muhammad is His worshipper and Messenger.'"
He said: "And he recited three Ayat."
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 11, Hadith 26
:
Yazid al-Farisi said: I heard Ibn Abbas say: I asked Uthman ibn Affan: What moved you to put the (Surah) al-Bara'ah which belongs to the mi'in (surahs) (containing one hundred verses) and the (Surah) al-Anfal which belongs to the mathani (Surahs) in the category of as-sab'u at-tiwal (the first long surah or chapters of the Qur'an), and you did not write "In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful" between them?
Uthman replied: When the verses of the Qur'an were revealed to the Prophet (ﷺ), he called someone to write them down for him and said to him: Put this verse in the surah in which such and such has been mentioned; and when one or two verses were revealed, he used to say similarly (regarding them). (Surah) al-Anfal is the first surah that was revealed at Medina, and (Surah) al-Bara'ah was revealed last in the Qur'an, and its contents were similar to those of al-Anfal. I, therefore, thought that it was a part of al-Anfal. Hence I put them in the category of as-sab'u at-tiwal (the seven lengthy surahs), and I did not write "In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful" between them.
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 2, Hadith 396
“I heard Ibn Abi Laila say: ‘Ka’b
bin
‘Ujrah met me and said: “Shall I not give you a gift? The
Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came out to us and we said: ‘We know what
it
means to send greetings on you, but what does it mean to send
peace
and blessings upon you?’ He said: ‘Say: Allahumma salli
‘ala
Muhammadin wa ‘ala ali Muhammadin, kama sallayta ‘ala
Ibrahima, innaka
Hamidun Majid; Allahumma barik ‘ala Muhammadin wa
‘ala ali Muhammadin, kama barakta ‘ala Ibrahima,
innaka Hamidun Majid (O Allah, send your grace,
honour and mercy upon
Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as
You sent Your grace,
honour and mercy upon Ibrahim, You are indeed
Praiseworthy, Most
Glorious. O Allah, send Your blessings upon
Muhammad and the family of
Muhammad, as You sent Your blessings upon
Ibrahim, You are indeed
Praiseworthy, Most Glorious).’”
