Some people asked the Prophet: "Who is the most honorable amongst the people?" He replied, "The
most honorable among them is the one who is the most Allah-fearing." They said, "O Allah's Prophet!
We do not ask about this." He said, "Then the most honorable person is Joseph, Allah's Prophet, the
son of Allah's Prophet, the son of Allah's Prophet, the son of Allah's Khalil." They said, "We do not
ask about this." He said, "Then you want to ask me about the Arabs' descent?" They said, "Yes." He
said, "Those who were best in the pre-lslamic period, are the best in Islam, if they comprehend (the
religious knowledge).
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 60, Hadith 48
Allah's Messenger said: 'Whoever performs Wudu, making Wudu well, then says: (Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, wahdahu la sharika lahu, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan-abduhu wa rasuluhu, Allahummajalni minat tawwabin, waj'alni minal mutatahhirin) 'I testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah Alone, there are no partners for Him. And I testify that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. O Allah! Make me among the repentant, and make me among those who purify themselves.' Then eight gates of Paradise are opened for him, that may enter by whichever of them wishes."
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 1, Hadith 55
The House was burnt during the time of Yazid b. Muawiya when the people of Syria had fought (in Mecca). And it happened with it (the Ka'ba) what was (in store for it). Ibn Zubair (Allah be pleased with him) felt it (in the same state) until the people came in the season (of Hajj). (The idea behind was) that he wanted to exhort them or incite them (to war) against the people of Syria. When the people had arrived he said to them: O people, advise me about the Ka'ba. Should I demolish it and then build it from its very foundation, or should I repair whatever has been damaged of it? Ibn 'Abbas said: An idea has occurred to me according to which I think that you should only repair (the portion which has been) damaged, and leave the House (in that very state in which) people embraced Islam (and leave those very stones in the same state) when people embraced Islam, and over which Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) had raised it. Thereupon Ibn Zubair said: It the house of any one of you is burnt, he would not be contented until he had reconstructed it, then what about the House of your Lord (which is far more Important than your house)? I would seek good advice from my Lord thrice and then I would make up (my mind) about this affair. After seeking good advice thrice, he made up his mind to demolish it. The people apprehended that calamity might fall from heaven on those persons who would be first to climb (over the building for the purpose of demolishing it), till one (took up courage, and ascended the roof), and threw down one of its stones. When the people saw no calamity befalling him, they followed him, demolished it until it was razed to the ground. Then Ibn Zubair erected pillars and hung cartains on them (in order to provide facilities to the people for observing the time of its construction). And the walls were raised; and Ibn Zubair said: I heard 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) say that Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) had observed: If the people had Rot recently (abandoned) unbelief, find I had means enough to reconstruct it, which I had not, I would have definitely excompassed in it five cubits of area from Hijr. And I would also have constructed a door for the people to enter, and a door for their exit. I today have (the means to spend) and I entertain no fearfrom the side of people (that they would protest against this change). So he added five cubits of area from the side of Hatim to it that there appeared (the old) foundation (upon which Hadrat Ibrahim had built the Ka'ba). and the people saw that and it was upon this foundation that the wall was raised. The length of the Ka'ba was eighteen cubits. when addition was made to it (which was in its breadth), then naturally the length appears to be) small (as compared with its breadth). Then addition of ten cubits (of area) was made in its length (also). Two doors were also constructed, one of which (was meant) for entrance and the other one for exit. When Ibn Zubair (Allah be pleased with him) was killed, Hajjaj wrote to 'Abd al-Malik (b. Marwan) informing him about it, and telling him that Ibn Zubair (Allah be pleased with him) had built (the Ka'ba) on those very foundations (which were laid by Ibrahim) and which reliable persons among the Meccans had seen. 'Abd al-Malik wrote to him: We are not concerned with the censuring of Ibn Zubair in anything. Keep intact the addition made by him in the side of length, and whatever he has added frem the side of Hijr revert to (its previous) foundation, and wall up the door which he had opened. Thus Hajjaj at the command of Abd al-Malik) demolished it (that portion) and rebuilt it on (its previous) foundations.
Sahih Muslim Book 15, Hadith 449
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) as saying: Allah, the Exalted, folded for me the earth, or he said (the narrator is doubtful): My Lord folded for me the earth, so much so that I saw its easts and wests (i.e. the extremities). The kingdom of my community will reach as far as the earth was floded for me. The two treasures, the red and the white, were bestowed on me. I prayed to my Lord that He may not destroy my community by prevailing famine, and not give their control to an enemy who annihilates then en masse except from among themselves. My Lord said to me: Muhammad, If I make a decision, it is not withdrawn ; and I shall not destroy them by prevailing famine, and I shall not give their control to an enemy, except from among themselves, who exterminates them en masse, even if they are stormed from all sides of the earth ; only a section of them will destroy another section, and a section will captive another section. I am afraid about my community of those leaders who will lead astray. When the sword is used among my people, it will not be withdrawn from them till the Day of Resurrection, and the Last Hour will not come before the tribes of my people attach themselves to the polytheists and tribes of my people worship idols. There will be among my people thirty great liars each of them asserting that he is (Allah's) prophet, where as I am the seal of the Prophet s after whom (me) there will be no prophet ; and a section of my people will continue to hold to the truth - (according to the Ibn Isa's version: (will continue to dominate) - the agreed version goes: "and will not be injured by those who oppose them, till Allah's command comes."
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 37, Hadith 13
Yahya related to me from Malik from Abu'z-Zinad from al-Araj from
Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant
him peace, said, "When the call to prayer is made Shaytan retreats,
passing wind, so that he will not hear the adhan. When the adhan is
completed he comes back, until, when the iqama is said, he retreats
again. When the iqama is completed, he comes back, until he comes
between a man and his self and says, 'Think of such and such, think of
such and such,' which he was not thinking about before, until the man
does not know how much he has prayed."
Muwatta Malik Book 3, Hadith 6
We were with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) on a journey, and when the sun set, he said to a man, "Get down and
prepare a drink of Sawiq for me." The man said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Will you wait till it is evening?"
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) again said, "Get down and prepare a drink of Sawiq." The man said, "O Allah's
Apostle! Will you wait till it is evening, for it is still daytime. " The Prophet (ﷺ) again said, "Get down
and prepare a drink of Sawiq." So the third time the man got down and prepared a drink of sawiq for
him. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) drank thereof and pointed with his hand towards the East, saying, "When you see
the night falling from this side, then a fasting person should break his fast."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 68, Hadith 46
Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said from Sulayman ibn
Yasar that Said ibn Huzaba al-Makhzumi was thrown off his mount while
he was in ihram on the road to Makka. He asked after the person in
charge of the relay station where he was injured and he found Abdullah
ibn Umar, Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr and Marwan ibn al-Hakam there. He
told them what had happened to him and all of them said that he should
take whatever medicine he had to take and pay compensation for it.
Then, when he got better again, he should do umra and come out of his
ihram, after which he had to do hajj another year and to offer
whatever sacrificial animal he was able to in the future.
Malik said, "This is what we do here (in Madina) if someone is
detained by something other than an enemy. And when Abu Ayyub al-
Ansari and Habbar ibn al-Aswad came to the day of the sacrifice and
had missed the hajj, Umar ibn al-Khattab told them to come out of
ihram by doing umra and then to go home free of ihram and do hajj some
time in the future and to sacrifice an animal, or, if they could not
find one, to fast three days during the hajj and seven days after they
had returned to their families."
Malik said, "Anyone who is
detained from doing hajj after he has gone into ihram, whether by
illness or otherwise, or by an error in calculating the month or
because the new moon is concealed from him is in the same position as
some one who is hindered from doing the hajj and must do the same as
he does."
Yahya said that Malik was asked about the situation
of someone from Makka who went into ihram for hajj and then broke a
bone or had severe stomach pain, or of a woman who was in labour, and
he said, "Someone to whom this happens is in the same situation as one
who is hindered from doing the hajj, and he must do the same as people
from outlying regions do when they are hindered from doing the hajj."
Malik said, about someone who arrived in the months of the
hajj with the intention of doing umra, and completed his umra and went
into ihram in Makka to do hajj, and then broke a bone or something
else happened to him which stopped him from being present at Arafa
with everybody else, "I think that he should stay where he is until he
is better and then go outside the area of the Haram, and then return
to Makka and do tawaf of the House and say between Safa and Marwa, and
then leave ihram. He must then do hajj again another year and offer a
sacrificial animal ."
Malik said, about someone who left
ihram in Makka, and then did tawaf of the House and say between Safa
and Marwa, and then fell ill and was unable to be present with
everybody at Arafa, "If the hajj passes someone by he should, if he
can, go out of the area of the Haram and then come back in again to do
umra and do tawaf of the House and say between Safa and Marwa, because
he had not intended his initial tawaf to be for an umra, and so for
this reason he does it again. He must do the next hajj and offer a
sacrificial animal.
If he is not one of the people of Makka,
and something happens to him which stops him from doing the hajj, but
he does tawaf of the House and say between Safa and Marwa, he should
come out of ihram by doing an umra and then do tawaf of the House a
second time, and say between Safa and Marwa, because his initial tawaf
and say were intended for the hajj. He must do the next hajj and offer
a sacrificial animal."
