While I was praying in the Mosque, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) called me but I did not respond to him. Later I
said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! I was praying." He said, "Didn't Allah say'--"Give your response to Allah
(by obeying Him) and to His Apostle when he calls you." (8.24)
He then said to me, "I will teach you a Sura which is the greatest Sura in the Qur'an, before you leave
the Mosque." Then he got hold of my hand, and when he intended to leave (the Mosque), I said to
him, "Didn't you say to me, 'I will teach you a Sura which is the greatest Sura in the Qur'an?' He said,
"Al-Hamdu-Li l-lah Rabbi-l-`alamin (i.e. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds) which is Al-Sab'a
Al-Mathani (i.e. seven repeatedly recited Verses) and the Grand Qur'an which has been given to me."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 65, Hadith 1
The Prophet (ﷺ) went out to one of the gardens of Medina for some business and I went out to follow him.
When he entered the garden, I sat at its gate and said to myself, "To day I will be the gatekeeper of the
Prophet though he has not ordered me." The Prophet (ﷺ) went and finished his need and went to sit on the
constructed edge of the well and uncovered his legs and hung them in the well. In the meantime Abu
Bakr came and asked permission to enter. I said (to him), "Wait till I get you permission." Abu Bakr
waited outside and I went to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, "O Allah's Prophet! Abu Bakr asks your permission
to enter." He said, "Admit him, and give him the glad tidings of entering Paradise." So Abu Bakr
entered and sat on the right side of the Prophet (ﷺ) and uncovered his legs and hung them in the well.
Then `Umar came and I said (to him), "Wait till I get you permission." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Admit him
and give him the glad tidings of entering Paradise." So `Umar entered and sat on the left side of the
Prophet and uncovered his legs and hung them in the well so that one side of the well became fully
occupied and there remained no place for any-one to sit. Then `Uthman came and I said (to him),
"Wait till I get permission for you." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Admit him and give him the glad tidings of
entering Paradise with a calamity which will befall him." When he entered, he could not find any
place to sit with them so he went to the other edge of the well opposite them and uncovered his legs
and hung them in the well. I wished that a brother of mine would come, so I invoked Allah for his
coming. (Ibn Al-Musaiyab said, "I interpreted that (narration) as indicating their graves. The first three
are together and the grave of `Uthman is separate from theirs.")
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 92, Hadith 48
I got an agreement written between me and Umaiya bin Khalaf that Umaiya would look after my
property (or family) in Mecca and I would look after his in Medina. When I mentioned the word 'Ar64
Rahman' in the documents, Umaiya said, "I do not know 'Ar-Rahman.' Write down to me your name,
(with which you called yourself) in the Pre-Islamic Period of Ignorance." So, I wrote my name '
`Abdu `Amr'. On the day (of the battle) of Badr, when all the people went to sleep, I went up the hill
to protect him. Bilal(1) saw him (i.e. Umaiya) and went to a gathering of Ansar and said, "(Here is)
Umaiya bin Khalaf! Woe to me if he escapes!" So, a group of Ansar went out with Bilal to follow us
(`Abdur-Rahman and Umaiya). Being afraid that they would catch us, I left Umaiya's son for them to
keep them busy but the Ansar killed the son and insisted on following us. Umaiya was a fat man, and
when they approached us, I told him to kneel down, and he knelt, and I laid myself on him to protect
him, but the Ansar killed him by passing their swords underneath me, and one of them injured my foot
with his sword. (The sub narrator said, " `Abdur-Rahman used to show us the trace of the wound on
the back of his foot.")
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 40, Hadith 3
"The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to observe I'tikaf during the middle ten days of the month, and after the twentieth (day of the month), he would come out on the twenty-first and go back to his home, and those who were observing I'tikaf with him would go back like him. Then he stayed one month on the night when he used to go back home, and he addressed the people and enjoined upon them whatever Allah (SWT) willed. Then he said: 'I used to observe I'tikaf during these ten days, then I decided to spend the last ten days in I'tikaf. So whoever was observing I'tikaf with me, let him stay in his place of I'tikaf, for I was shown this night (Lailatul Qadr), then I was caused to forget it, so seek it during the last ten nights on the odd-numbered nights. And I saw myself prostrating in water and mud.'" Abu Sa'eed said: "It rained on the night of the twenty-first, and the roof of the Masjid leaked over the place where the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to pray. I looked at him when he had finished praying subh and his face was wet with water and mud."
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 13, Hadith 178
A woman came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, "I have come to present myself to you (for marriage)." She
kept standing for a long period during which period the Prophet (ﷺ) looked at her carefully. When she
stayed for a Long period, a man said to the Prophet (ﷺ) "If you are not in need of her, then marry her to
me." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Have you got anything to give her (as Mahr)?" The man said, "No." The
Prophet said, "Go (to your house) and search for something." The man went and came back to say,
"By Allah, I could not find anything." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Go again and search for something, even if
it be an iron ring." He went again and came back saying, "No, by Allah, I could not get even an iron
ring." The man had only an Izar and had no Rida' (upper garment). He said, "I will give her my Izar
as Mahr." On that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Your Izar? If she wears it, nothing of it will remain on you,
and if you wear it nothing of it will be on her" The man went aside and sat down When the Prophet (ﷺ)
saw him leaving (after a while), he called back and asked. "How much Qur'an do you know (by
heart)? He said, 'I know such and such Suras," naming some Suras. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "I marry
her to you for the amount of Qur'an you know (by heart).
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 77, Hadith 88
"I entered upon 'Abdullah bin 'Amr bin Al-'As when he was in a garden of his in At-Ta'if called Al-Waht. He was walking and holding hands with a young man of Quraish who was suspected of drinking Khamr. He said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah say: Whoever drinks Khamr once, his repentance will not be accepted for 40 days, then if he repents, Allah will accept his repentance. If he does it again, his repentance will not be accepted for 40 days, then if he repents, Allah will accept his repentance. If he does it again, his repentance will not be accepted for 40 days, then if he repents, Allah will accept his repentance. If he does it again (a fourth time), then it is a right upon Allah to make him drink from the mud of Khibal on the Day of Resurrection." This is the wording of 'Amr.
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 51, Hadith 132
We were sitting in the company of Abdullah and he was lying on the bed that a person came and said: Abd Abd al-Rabmin, a story-teller at the gates of Kinda says that the verse (of the Qur'an) which deals with the" smoke" implies that which is about to come and it would hold the breath of the infidels and would inflict the believers with cold. Thereupon Abdullah got up and said in anger. O people, fear Allah and say only that which one knows amongst you and do not say which he does not know and he should simply say: Allah has the best knowledge for He has the best knowledge amongst all of you. It does not behove him to say that which he does not know. Allah has the best knowledge of it. Verily Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, said to His Prophet (ﷺ) to state:" I do not ask from you any remuneration and I am not the one to put you in trouble," and when Allah's Mesqenger (ﷺ) saw people turning back (from religion) he said: O Allah, afflict thern with seven famines as was done in the case of Yusuf, so they were afflicted with famine by which they were forced to eat everything until they were obliged to eat the hides and the dead bodies because of hunger, and every one of them looked towards the sky and he found a smoke. And Abu Sufyan came and he said: Muhammad, you have come to command us to obey Allah and cement the ties of blood- relation whereas your people are undone; supplicate Allah for tlicm. Thereupon Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, said:" Wait for the day when there would be clear smoke from the sky which would envelop people and that would be grievous torivent" up to the words:" you are going to return to (evil)." (if this verse implied the torment of the next life) could the chastisement of the next (life) be averted (as the Qur'an states): On the day when We seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We shall exact retribution" (xliv. 16)? The seizing (in the hadith) implies that of the Day of Badr. And so far as the sign of smoke, seizing, inevitability and signs of Rome are concern- ed, they have become things of the past now.
Sahih Muslim Book 52, Hadith 22
Yahya related to me from Malik from a reliable source of his who
had heard Said ibn al-Musayyab say, ''Umar ibn al-Khattab refused to
let anyone inherit from the non-arabs except for one who was born
among the arabs."
Malik said, "If a pregnant woman comes from
the land of the enemy and gives birth in arab land so that he is her
(an arab) child, he inherits from her if she dies, and she inherits
from him if he dies, by the Book of Allah."
Malik said, "The
generally agreed on way of doing things among us and the sunna in
which there is no dispute, and what I saw the people of knowledge in
our city doing, is that a Muslim does not inherit from a kafir by
kinship, clientage (wala'), or maternal relationship, nor does he (the
Muslim) overshadow any (of the kafirs) from his inheritance.
Malik said, "Similarly, someone who forgoes his inheritance when he is
the chief heir does not overshadow anyone from his inheritance."
Muwatta Malik Book 27, Hadith 22
Should I not narrate to you (a hadith of the Holy Prophet) on my authority and on the authority of my mother? We thought that he meant the mother who had given him birth. He (Muhammad b. Qais) then reported that it was 'A'isha who had narrated this: Should I not narrate to you about myself and about the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)? We said: Yes. She said: When it was my turn for Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) to spend the night with me, he turned his side, put on his mantle and took off his shoes and placed them near his feet, and spread the corner of his shawl on his bed and then lay down till he thought that I had gone to sleep. He took hold of his mantle slowly and put on the shoes slowly, and opened the door and went out and then closed it lightly. I covered my head, put on my veil and tightened my waist wrapper, and then went out following his steps till he reached Baqi'. He stood there and he stood for a long time. He then lifted his hands three times, and then returned and I also returned. He hastened his steps and I also hastened my steps. He ran and I too ran. He came (to the house) and I also came (to the house). I, however, preceded him and I entered (the house), and as I lay down in the bed, he (the Holy Prophet) entered the (house), and said: Why is it, O 'A'isha, that you are out of breath? I said: There is nothing. He said: Tell me or the Subtle and the Aware would inform me. I said: Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be ransom for you, and then I told him (the whole story). He said: Was it the darkness (of your shadow) that I saw in front of me? I said: Yes. He gave me a nudge on the chest which I felt, and then said: Did you think that Allah and His Apostle would deal unjustly with you? She said: Whatsoever the people conceal, Allah will know it. He said: Gabriel came to me when you saw me. He called me and he concealed it from you. I responded to his call, but I too concealed it from you (for he did not come to you), as you were not fully dressed. I thought that you had gone to sleep, and I did not like to awaken you, fearing that you may be frightened. He (Gabriel) said: Your Lord has commanded you to go to the inhabitants of Baqi' (to those lying in the graves) and beg pardon for them. I said: Messenger of Allah, how should I pray for them (How should I beg forgiveness for them)? He said: Say, Peace be upon the inhabitants of this city (graveyard) from among the Believers and the Muslims, and may Allah have mercy on those who have gone ahead of us, and those who come later on, and we shall, God willing, join you.
Sahih Muslim Book 11, Hadith 132
Ibn Umar was sent with a detachment of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). The people wheeled round in flight. He said: I was one of those who wheeled round in flight. When we stopped, we said (i.e. thought): How should we do? We have run away from the battlefield and deserve Allah's wrath. Then we said (thought): Let us enter Medina, stay there, and go there while no one sees us. So we entered (Medina) and thought: If we present ourselves before the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and if there is a change of repentance for us, we shall stay; if there is something else, we shall go away. So we sat down (waiting) for the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) before the dawn prayer. When he came out, we stood up to him and said: We are the ones who have fled. He turned to us and said: No, you are the ones who return to fight after wheeling away. We then approached and kissed his hand, and he said; I am the main body of the Muslims.
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 15, Hadith 171
Yahya related to me from Malik from Abu'z Zinad from al-Araj from
Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant
him peace, said, "A man said to his family that he had never done a
good action, and that when he died they were to burn him and then
scatter half of him on the land and half of him on the sea, and by
Allah, if Allah destined it for him He would punish him with a
punishment which He had not punished anyone else with in all the
worlds. When the man died, they did as he had told them. Then Allah
told the land to collect everything that was in it, and told the sea
to collect everything that was in it, and then He said to the man,
'Why did you do this?' and he said, 'From fear of You, Lord, and You
know best.' "
Abu Hurayra added, "And He forgave him."
Muwatta Malik Book 16, Hadith 53
Ibn Shihab said: “Salim read to me a letter that the Messenger of Allah had written concerning Sadaqat, before Allah caused him to pass away, in which it was said: 'For five camels one sheep; for ten, two sheep; for twenty, four sheep. For twenty five, a Bint Makhad(a one year old she-camel), up to thirty-five; if there is no Bint Makhad, then a Bin Labun ( a two-year-old male camel). If there are more than thirty-five even one, then a Bint Labun ( a two-year-old she-camel) must be given up to forty-five. If there are more than forty-five, even one, then a Hiqqah (a three-year-old she-camel), up to sixty camels. If there are more than sixty, even one more, then a Jadha'ah ( a four-year-old she-camel) must be given, up to seventy-five. If there are more than seventy-five, even one more, then two Bint Labun must be given, upto ninety. If there are more than ninety, even one more, then two Hiqqah must be given, up to one hundred and twenty. If there are many camels, then for each fifty, one Hiqqah must be given and for each forty a Bint Labun' ”
Sunan Ibn Majah Book 8, Hadith 16
He who likes to meet Allah tomorrow as Muslim, he should persevere in observing these prayers, when a call is announced for them, for Allah has laid down for your Prophet the paths of right guidance, and these (prayers) are among the paths of right guidance. If you were to pray in your houses as this man why stays away (from the mosque) prays in his house, you would abandon the practice of your Prophet, and if you were to abandon the practice of your Prophet, you would go astray. No man purifies himself, doing it well, then makes for one of those mosques without Allah recording a blessing for him for every step he takes raising him a degree for it, and effacing a sin from him for it. I have seen the time when no one stayed away from it, except a hypocrite, who was well known for his hypocrisy, whereas a man would be brought swaying (due to weakness) between two men till he was set up in a row.
Sahih Muslim Book 5, Hadith 321
"I entered upon 'Umar bin Al-Khattab. (Then) Uthman bin 'Affan, Az-Zubair, 'Abdur-Rahman bin Awf, and Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas entered. Then 'Ali and Al-'Abbas came disputing. 'Umar said to them: ' I ask you, by Allah the One by Whose Will the heavens and the earth are maintained, do you know that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "We are not inherited from, what we leave is charity?" They said: 'Yes.' 'Umar said: 'When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) died, Abu Bakr said: "I am the caretaker of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)" So you and he went to Abu Bakr and you sought your inheritance from the son of your brother, and he sought the inheritance of his wife from her father. So Abu Bakr said that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "We are not inherited from, what we leave is charity." And Allah knows that he is truthful, innocent, instructing and following the truth.'"
There is a lengthy story along with the Hadith. And this Hadith is Hasan Sahih Gharib as a narration of Malik bin Anas.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 21, Hadith 73
“There is no Muslim who is
stricken
with a calamity and reacts by saying as Allah has commanded:
‘Inna
lillahi, wa inna ilayhi raji’un. Allahumma indaka ahtasabtu
musibati, fajurni fiha, wa ‘awwidni minha (Truly, to Allah we belong
and truly, to Him we shall return. O Allah, with You I seek reward
for
my calamity, so reward me for it and compensate me),’ but Allah
will
reward him for that and compensate him with something better
than it.”
She said: “When Abu Salamah died, I remembered what he
had told me
from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and I said: ‘Inna
lillahi, wa inna
ilayhi raji’un. Allahumma indaka ahtasabtu
musibati, fajurni alaiha
(Truly, to Allah we belong and truly, to Him
we shall return. O Allah,
with You I seek reward for my calamity, so
reward me for it).’ But
when I wanted to say wa ‘awwidni minha
(and compensate me with
better), I said to myself: ‘How can I be
compensated with something
better than Abu Salamah?’ Then I said
it, and Allah compensated me
with Muhammad (ﷺ) and rewarded me for
my calamity.”
Sunan Ibn Majah Book 6, Hadith 166
“I came to ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr bin ‘As when he was sitting in
the shade of the Ka’bah, and the people were gathered around him,
and I heard him say: ‘While we were with the Messenger of Allah
(ﷺ) on a journey, he stopped to camp and some of us were pitching
tents, some were competing in shooting arrows and some were taking
the animals out to graze them. Then his caller called out: “As-Salatu
Jami’ah (prayer is about to begin).” So we gathered, and the
Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stood up and addressed us. He said: “There
has never been a Prophet before me who was not obliged to tell his
nation of what he knew was good for them, and to warn against what he
knew was bad for them. With regard to this nation of yours, soundness
(of religious commitment) and well-being has been placed in its
earlier generations and the last of them will be afflicted with
calamities and things that you dislike. Then there will come
tribulations which will make the earlier ones pale into significance,
and the believer will say: ‘This will be the end of me,’ then
relief will come. Then (more) tribulations will come and the believer
will say: ‘This will be the end of me,’ then relief will come.
Whoever would like to be taken far away from Hell and admitted to
Paradise, let him die believing in Allah and the Last Day, and let
him treat people as he would like to be treated. Whoever gives his
oath of allegiance to a ruler and gives a sincere promise, let him
obey him as much as he can, and if another comes and challenges him,
let them strike the neck (i.e., kill) the second one.’” He the narrator said: “I raised my head among the people and said: 'I adjure you by Allah, did you hear that from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)?' He ('Abdullah bin 'Amr bin Al-'As) pointed with his hand to his ears and said: I heard it directly from him and memorized it.'”
Sunan Ibn Majah Book 36, Hadith 31
"I heard Mujahid narrating from Abu Ayyash Az-Zuraqi"- Shu'bah said: "He had written it for me, and I read it before him, and I heard him narrating it; rather, I even memorized it." Ibn Bashshar said: "I memorized it from the book"- "The Prophet (ﷺ) was drawing up ranks facing the enemy in 'Usfan when the idolaters were led by Khalid bin Al-Walid. The Prophet (ﷺ) led them in praying Zuhr. The idolaters said: 'They have a prayer after this that is dearer to them than their wealth and sons.' Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) led them in praying 'Asr. He divided them into two rows, behind him. He led them all in bowing, then when they raised their heads he led the row that was closest to him in prostrating, while the others remained standing. When they raised their heads from prostration, the second row prostrated, as they had already bowed with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). Then the front row moved forward, so each of them took the place of his companion. Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) led them all in bowing, then when they raised their heads from bowing, the row that was closest to him prostrated while the others remained standing, then when they had finished prostrating, the others prostrated, then the Prophet (ﷺ) said the taslim for all of them together.
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 18, Hadith 21
"The Messenger of Allah said: '(On the Day of Resurrection) camels will come to their owner in the best state of health that they ever had (in this world) and if he did not pay what was due on them, they will trample him with their hooves. Sheep willcome to their owner in the best state of health that they ever had (in this world) and if he did not pay what was due on them, they will trample him with their cloven hooves and gore him with their horns. And among their rights are that they should be milked with water in the front of them. I do not want any one of you to come on the Day of Resurrection with a groaning camel on his neck, saying , O Muhammad, and I will say: I cannot do anything for you, I conveyed the message. I do not want any one of you to come on the Day of Resurrection with a bleating sheep on his neck, saying, "O Muhammad," and I will say: "I cannot do anything for you, I conveyed the message." And on the Day of Resurrection the hoarded treasure of one of you will be a blad-headed Shujaafrom which its owner will flee, but it will chase him (saying), I am your hoarded treasure, and it will keep (chasing him) until he gives it his finger to swallow."'
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 23, Hadith 14
