"My father 'Ali called me to bring (water for) Wudu', so I brought it to him, and he started by washing his hands three times, before putting them into the water. Then he rinsed his mouth three times and sniffed water into his nose and blew it out three times. Then he washed his face three times, then his right hand up to the elbow three times, then his left likewise. Then he wiped his head once then he washed his right foot up to the ankle three times, then the left likewise. Then he stood up and said: 'Pass me the vessel.' So I passed the vessel containing the remaining water for his Wudu' to him, and he drank from it standing up. I was surprised and when he noticed that he said: 'Do not be surprised, for I saw your father the Prophet (ﷺ) doing,' referring to his Wudu' and drinking the leftover water while standing."
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 1, Hadith 95
That he heard is father, narating a Hadith, which he heard from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in which he stood among them, mentioning to them that Jihad in the cause of Allah and faith in Allah were the most virtuous of deeds. Then a man stood and said: "O Messenger of Allah! If I were killed in the cause of Allah, would my sins forgiven ?" So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Yes, If you are killed in Allah's cause, and you are patient, seeking the reward, advancing, not fleeing." Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "What was it that you said?" So he replied: "If I were killed in the cause of Allah, would my sins be removed (forgiven)?" So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Yes, If you are patient, seeking the reward, advancing, not fleeing - except debt. For Jibril said that to me."
There are narrations on this topic from Anas, Muhammad bin Jahsh, And Abu Hurairah. This Hadith is Hasan Sahih.
Some of them reported this Hadith from Sa'eed Al-Maqburi, from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet (ﷺ) similar to this. Yahya bin Sa'eed Al-Ansari and more than one narrator reported this from Sa'eed Al-Maqburi from 'Abdullah bin Abi Qatadah, from his fahter, from the Prophet (ﷺ). This is more correct than the narration of Sa'eed Al-Maqburi from Abu Hurairah.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 23, Hadith 46
I and 'Abdullah b. Yazid set out till we came to Abu Salama. We sent a messenger to him (in his house in order to inform him about our arrival) and he came to us. There was a mosque near the door of his house, and we were in that mosque, till he came out to us. He said: If you like you may enter (the house) and, if you like, you may sit here (in the mosque). We said: We would rather sit here and (you) relate to us. He (Yahya) then narrated that 'Abdullah b Amr b. al-'As (Allah be pleased with them) told him: I used to observe fast uninterruptedly and recited the (whole of the) Qur'an every night. It (the uninterrupted fasting and recital of the Qur'an every night) was mentioned to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) or he sent for me, and I went to him and he said to me: I have been informed that you fast continuously and recite (the whole of the Qur'an) every night. I said: Apostle of Allah, it is right, but I covet thereby nothing but good, whereupon he said: It suffices for you that you should observe fast for three days during every month. I said: Apostle of Allah, I am capable of doing more than this. He said: Your wife has a right upon you, your visitor has a right upon you, your body has a right upon you; so observe the fast of David, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), for he was the best worshipper of Allah. I said: Apostle of Allah, what is the fast of David? He said: He used to fast one day and did not fast the other day. He (also) said: Recite the Qur'an during every month. I said: Apostle of Allah, I am capable of doing more than this, whereupon he said: Recite it in twenty days; recite it in ten days. I said: I am capable of doing more than this, whereupon he said: Recite it every week, and do not exceed beyond this, for your wife has a right upon you, your visitor has a right upon you, your body has a right upon you. He ('Amr b. 'As) said: I was hard to myself and thus I was put to hardship. The Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) had told me: 'You do not know you may live long (thus and bear the hardships for a long time), and I accepted that which the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had told me. When I grew old I wished I had availed myself of the concession (granted by) the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).
Sahih Muslim Book 13, Hadith 236
Yahya related to me from Malik that Humayd ibn Qays and Thawr ibn
Zayd adDili both informed him that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah
bless him and grant him peace, (and one of them gave more detail than
the other),saw a man standing in the sun. The Messenger asked, "What's
wrong with him?" The people said, "He has vowed not to speak or to
seek shade from the sun or to sit and to fast." The Messenger of
Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Go and tell him
to speak, seek shade, and sit, but let him complete his fast."
Malik said, "I have not heard that the Messenger of Allah, may
Allah bless him and grant him peace, ordered the man in question to do
any kaffara. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him
peace, only ordered him to complete that in which there was obedience
to Allah and to abandon that in which there was disobedience to
Allah."
Muwatta Malik Book 22, Hadith 7
"O Messenger of Allah, this man killed my brother." The Messenger of Allah said to him: "Did you kill him?" He said: "O Messenger of Allah even if he did not confess I would have brought proof against him." He said: "Yes, I killed him." He said: "How did you kill him?" He said: "He and I were chopping firewood from a tree and he insulted me, so I got angry and struck him with the ax on the forehead." The Messenger of Allah said: "Do you have any wealth with which you can pay the Diyah to save yourself?" He said: "O Messenger of Allah, I do not have anything but my ax and my clothes." The Messenger of Allah said to him: "Do you think your people will pay to save you?" He said: "I am too insignificant to them for that." He threw the string to the man and said: "Here, thank him." When he turned to go, the Messenger of Allah said: "If he kills him, he will be like him. "They caught up with the man, and said: "Woe to you! The Messenger of Allah said: 'If he kills him, he will be like him. "So he went back to the Messenger of Allah and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have been told that you said: 'if he kills him, he will be like him. 'But I only took him because you told me to. He said: 'Don't you want him to carry your sin and the sin of your companion (the victim)?' He said: 'Yes, if that is the case.' He said: 'And that is how it is."'
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 45, Hadith 22
Ibn ‘Abbas said “Hilal bin Umayyah was one of the three persons whose repentance was accepted by Allaah. One night he returned from his land and found a man along with his wife. He witnessed with his eyes and heard with his ears. He did not threaten him till the morning.” Next day he went to the Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) in the morning and said Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) “I came to my wife in the night and found a man along with her. I saw with my own eyes and heard with my own ears. The Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) disliked what he described and he took it seriously. There upon the following Qur’anic verse came down “And those who make charges against their spouses but have no witnesses except themselves, let the testimony of one of them ....” When the Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) came to himself (after the revelation ended) he said “Glad tidings to you Hilal, Allaah the exalted has made ease and a way out for you.” Hilal said “I expected that from my Lord. The Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) said “Send for her. She then came.” The Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) recited the verses to them and he reminded them and told them that the punishment in the next world was more severe than that in n this world. Hilal said “I swear by Allah I spoke the truth against her.” She said “He told a lie.” The Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) said “Apply the method of invoking curses on one another. Hilal was told “Bear witness. So he bore witness before Allaah four times that he spoke the truth.” When he was about to utter the fifth time he was told “Hilal fear Allah, for the punishment in this world is easier than that in the next world and this is the deciding one, that will surely cause punishment to you.” He said “I swear by Allaah. Allah will not punish me for this (act), as He did not cause me to be flogged for this (act).” So he bore witness a fifth time invoking the curse of Allah on him if he was of those who tell a lie. Then the people said to her, Testify. So she gave testimony before Allaah that he was a liar. When she was going to testify the fifth time she was told “Fear Allah, for the punishment in this world is easier than that in the next world. This is the deciding one that will surely cause punishment to you.” She hesitated for a moment. And then said “By Allah, I will not disgrace my people.” So she testified a fifth time invoking the curse of Allah on her if he spoke the truth. Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) separated them from each other and decided that the child will not be attributed to its father. Neither she nor her child will be accused of adultery. He who accuses her or her child will be liable to punishment. He also decided that there will be no dwelling and maintenance for her (from the husband) as they were separated without divorce and death. He then said “If she gives birth to a child with reddish hair, light buttocks, wide belly and light shins he will be the child of Hilal. If she bears a dusky child with curly hair, fat limbs, fat shins and fat buttocks he will be the child of the one who was accused of adultery. She gave birth to a child with curly hair, fat limbs, fat shins and fat buttocks. The Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) said “Had there been no oaths, I would have dealt with her severely.”
‘Ikrimah said “Later on he became the chief of the tribe of Mudar. He was not attributed to his father.”
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 13, Hadith 82
Yahya related to me from Malik from Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir from
Jabir ibn Abdullah that a Bedouin took an oath of allegiance in Islam
with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
A fever befell the Bedouin at Madina. He came to the Messenger of
Allah, and said, "Messenger of Allah, release me from my pledge." The
Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, refused.
Then he came to him again and said, "Release me from my pledge." The
Messenger of Allah may Allah bless him and grant him peace, refused.
Then he came again and said, "Release me from my pledge." He refused.
Then he came again and said, "Release me from my pledge." He refused.
The Bedouin left and the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and
grant him peace, said, "Madina is like the blacksmith's furnace. It
removes the impurities and purifies the good."
Muwatta Malik Book 45, Hadith 4
Yahya related to me from Malik that Ibn Shihab used to say, "Some
one who catches a raka of the jumua prayer should pray another one
with it." Ibn Shihab said, "That is the sunna."
Malik said,
"I saw the people of knowledge in our city doing that. That is because
the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said,
'Whoever catches a raka of the prayer has caught the prayer.' "
Malik said, concerning some one who was in a crowd on the day of
jumua and did the ruku but was not able to go into sajda until the
imam had risen or finished his prayer, "If he is able to do the sajda
and has already done the ruku then he should do the sajda when the
people stand up. If he is unable to do thesajda until after the imam
has finished the prayer, then I prefer that he begins the prayeragain
and does the four rakas of dhuhr."
Muwatta Malik Book 5, Hadith 12
"Abdul Malik bin Marwan wrote to Al-Hajjaj bin Yusuf telling him not to go against Ibn Umar with regard to the Hajj. On the day of Arafat, Ibn Umar came to him when the sun had passed its zenith, and I was with him, and shouted near his cotton tent: 'Where is he?' Al-Hajjaj came out to him, wearing a wrap dyed with safflower. He said: 'What is the matter, O Abu Abdur Rahman?' He said: 'We have to move on if you want to follow Sunnah.' He said to him: 'At this hour?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'I will pour some water over my self (have a bath) then I will come out to you.' So he waited until he came, then he walked between my father and me, I said: 'If you want to follow the Sunnah, then deliver a short Khutbah and hasten to stand (in Arafat).' He started to look at Ibn Umar so that he could hear that, and when Ibn Umar noticed that he said: 'He is speaking the truth.'"
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 24, Hadith 388
Anas bin Malik said to a woman of his family, "Do you know such-and-such a woman?" She replied,
"Yes." He said, "The Prophet (ﷺ) passed by her while she was weeping over a grave, and he said to her,
'Be afraid of Allah and be patient.' The woman said (to the Prophet). 'Go away from me, for you do
not know my calamity.'" Anas added, "The Prophet (ﷺ) left her and proceeded. A man passed by her and
asked her, 'What has Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said to you?' She replied, 'I did not recognize him.' The man said,
'He was Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)."' Anas added, "So that woman came to the gate of the Prophet (ﷺ) and she did
not find a gate-keeper there, and she said, 'O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! By Allah. I did not recognize you!' The
Prophet said, 'No doubt, patience is at the first stroke of a calamity.'"
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 93, Hadith 18
The Prophet (ﷺ) entered a garden and ordered me to guard its gate. A man came and asked permission to
enter. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Admit him and give him the glad tidings of entering Paradise." Behold! It
was Abu Bakr. Another man came and asked the permission to enter. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Admit him
and give him the glad tidings of entering Paradise." Behold! It was `Umar. Then another man came,
asking the permission to enter. The Prophet (ﷺ) kept silent for a short while and then said, "Admit him
and give him the glad tidings of entering Paradise with a calamity which will befall him." Behold! It
was `Uthman bin `Affan. `Asim, in another narration, said that the Prophet (ﷺ) was sitting in a place
where there was water, and he was uncovering both his knees or his knee, and when `Uthman entered,
he covered them (or it).
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 62, Hadith 45
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said to me, "If the revenue of Al-Bahrain should come, I will give you so much and so
much," repeating "so much" thrice. But the revenue of Al-Bahrain did not come till Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)
had died. When the revenue came during the rule of Abu Bakr. Abu Bakr ordered an announcer to
announce, "Whoever had any debt or promise due upon the Prophet, should present himself to me (i.e.
Abu Bakr). I came to Abu Bakr and informed him that the Prophet (ﷺ) had said (to me), "If the revenue of
Al-Bahrain should come, I will give you so-much and so much," repeating "so much" thrice. So Abu
Bakr gave me (in another narration Jaibir said,). I met Abu Bakr after that and asked him (to give me
what the Prophet (ﷺ) had promised me) but he did not give me. I again went to him but he did not give
me. I again went to him (for the third time) but he did not give me; On that I said to him, "I came to
you but you did not give me, then I came to you and you did not give me, and then again I came to
you, but you did not give me; so you should either give me or else you are like a miserly to me, on
that, Abu Bakr said, "Do you say, 'You are like a miserly to me?' There is no worse disease than
miserliness." Abu Bakr said it thrice and added, "Whenever I refused to give you, I had the intention
of giving you." (In another narration) Jabir bin `Abdullah said, "I went to Abu Bakr (and he gave me a
handful of money) and told me to count it, I counted and found it five-hundred, and then Abu Bakr
said (to me), "Take the same amount twice."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 64, Hadith 406
Abdullah ibn Hasan al-Anbari said: My grandmothers, Safiyyah and Duhaybah, narrated to me, that hey were the daughters of Ulaybah and were nourished by Qaylah, daughter of Makhramah. She was the grandmother of their father.
She reported to them, saying: We came upon the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). My companion, Hurayth ibn Hassan, came to him as a delegate from Bakr ibn Wa'il. He took the oath of allegiance of Islam for himself and for his people.
He then said: Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), write a document for us, giving us the land lying between us and Banu Tamim at ad-Dahna' to the effect that not one of them will cross it in our direction except a traveller or a passer-by.
He said: Write down ad-Dahna' for them, boy. When I saw that he passed orders to give it to him, I became anxious, for it was my native land and my home.
I said: Messenger of Allah, he did not ask you for a true border when he asked you. This land of Dahna' is a place where the camels have their home, and it is a pasture for the sheep. The women of Banu Tamim and their children are beyond it.
He said: Stop, boy! A poor woman spoke the truth: a Muslim is a brother of a Muslim. Each one of them may benefit from water and trees, and they should cooperate with each other against Satan.
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 20, Hadith 143
I asked Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with them) about the conversion (of gold and silver for silver and gold). We said: Is it hand to hand exchange? I said: Yes. whereupon he said: There is no harm in it. I informed Abu Sa'id about it, telling him that I had asked Ibn 'Abbas about it and he said: Is it hand to hand exchange? I said: Yes, whereupon he said: There is no harm in it. He (the narrator) said, or he said like it: We will soon write to him, and he will not give you this fatwa (religious verdict). He said: By Allah, someone of the boy-servants of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) brought dates, but he refused to accept them (on the plea) that those did not seem to be of the dates of our land. He said: Something had happened to the dates of our land, or our dates. So I got these dates (in exchange by giving) excess (of the dates of our land), whereupon he said: You made an addition for getting the fine dates (in exchange) which tantamounts, to interest; don't do that (in future). Whenever you find some doubt (as regards the deteriorating quality of) your dates, sell them, and then buy the dates that you like.
Sahih Muslim Book 22, Hadith 125
