"The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) addressed us and taught us our Sunnahs and our prayer. He said: 'Make your rows straight, then let one of you lead the others. When he says the takbir, then say the takbir; when he says: "Wa lad-dallin" then say "Amin" and Allah (SWT) will answer you. When the Imam says the takbir and bows, then say the takbir and bow, for the Imam bows before you and stands up before you.' The Prophet of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'This makes up for that. When he says: 'Sami Allahu liman hamidah (Allah hears the one who praises Him), say: "Rabbana wa lakal-hamd (Our Lord, to You be praise)," Allah (SWT) will hear you, for indeed Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, has said on the tongue of His Prophet (ﷺ): "Allah hears the one who praises Him." Then when the Imam says the takbir and prostrates, say the takbir and prostrate, for the Imam prostrates before you and rises before you.' The Prophet of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'This makes up for that. Then when you are sitting, let the first thing that any one of you says be: At-tahiyyatu lillahi was-salawatu wat-tayyibat, as-salamu 'alaika ayyuhan-Nabiyyu wa rahmatAllahi wa baraktuhu. As-salamu 'alaina wa 'ala 'ibad illahis-salihin, ashahdu an la illaha ill-Allah wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluhu (Allah compliments, prayers and pure words are due to Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah (SWT) and his blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous slaves of Allah (SWT). I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger)."
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 12, Hadith 144
Malik related to me from Rabia ibn Abi Abd ar-Rahman from another
of the ulama of that time that Abu Musa al-Ashari came and asked
permission from Umar ibn al-Khattab to enter. He asked permission
three times, and then went away Umar ibn al-Khattab sent after him and
said, "What's wrong with you? Why didn't you come in?" Abu Musa said,
"I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him
peace, say, 'Ask permission to enter three times. If you are given
permission, then enter. If not, go away.' ''Umar said, "Who can
confirm this? If you do not bring me someone to confirm it, I will do
such-and-such to you."
Abu Musa went out until he came to an
assembly in the mosque which was called the Majlis-al-Ansar. He said,
"I told Umar ibn al-Khattab that I heard the Messenger of Allah, may
Allah bless him and grant him peace, say, 'Ask permission three times.
If you are given permission, then enter. If not, go away.' Umar said,
'If you do not bring me someone who can confirm it, I will do such-
and-such to you'. If any of you have heard that, let him come with
me.' " They said to Abu Said al-Khudri, "Go with him". Abu Said was
the youngest of them. He went with him and told Umar ibn al-Khattab
about that."
Umar ibn al-Khattab said to Abu Musa, "I did not
suspect you, but I feared lest people forge sayings of the Messenger
of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace."
Muwatta Malik Book 54, Hadith 3
Yahya related to me from Malik that he heard Rabia ibn Abd ar-
Rahman say that a slave could marry four women.
Malik said,
"This is the best of what I have heard about the matter."
Malik said, "The slave differs with the muhallil if the slave is given
permission by his master for his ex-wife. If his master does not give
him permission, he separates them. The muhallil is separated in any
case if he intends to make the woman halal by marriage."
Malik said, "When a slave is owned by his wife or a husband owns his
wife, the possession of each of them is rendered void without divorce.
If a man, for instance, is married to a slave-girl, and then he buys
her, he must divorce her as a matter of course. They can then re-
marry. If they re-marry afterwards, that separation was not divorce."
Malik said, "When a slave is freed by his wife who owns him
and she is in the idda-period from him, they can only return to each
other after she has made another marriage."
Muwatta Malik Book 28, Hadith 47
from Al-Bara (regarding): And do not aim at that which is bad to spend from it (2:267) - he said: "It was revealed about us, the people of the Ansar who were date-palm owners. A man would bring the amount of dates that he would from his date-palms, either a lot or a little. A man would bring a cluster or two and hang it in the Masjid. The people of As-Suffah did not have food, so one of them would go up to the cluster and hit it with his stick, and unripe and ripe dates would fall, and he would eat. Some people did not hope for good, so a man would bring a cluster with pitless and hard dates, and a cluster with damaged dates, and hang it. So Allah, Blessed and Most High, revealed: O you who believe! Spend of the good things which you have earned, and of that which We have produced from the earth for you, and do not aim at that which is bad to spend from it (2:267). They said: 'If one of you were given similar to what he gave, he would take it except bashfully with your eyes closed.' So after that, one of us would bring the best that we had."
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 47, Hadith 39
“I witnessed Ali having an animal brought to him to ride. When he placed his foot in the stirrup he said: ‘In the Name of Allah,’ (Bismillāh) . So then, once he had ascended upon its back, he said: ‘All praise is due to Allah.’ (Al-ḥamdulillāh) then he said: Glory is to Him Who has subjected this to us, and we were not able to do it. And, surely, to our Lord are we returning (Subḥān alladhī sakh-khara lanā hādhā wa mā kunnā lahū muqrinīn. Wa innā ilā rabbinā lamunqalibūn). Then he said: ‘All praise is due to Allah (Al-ḥamdulillāh)’ – three times – and ‘Allah is the Greatest (Allāhu Akbar)’ – three times – ‘Glory is to You, indeed I have wronged myself, so forgive me, for indeed none forgives sins except You (Subḥānaka innī qad ẓalamtu nafsī faghfirlī fa-innahū lā yaghfirudh-dhunūba illā ant).’ Then he laughed. So I said: ‘O Commander of the Believer! What caused you to laugh?’ He said: ‘I saw the Messenger of Allah do as I did, then he (ﷺ) laughed, so I said, ‘What cause you to laugh?’ He said: ‘Indeed, your Lord is very pleased with His worshipper when he says: “O my Lord, forgive me my sins, indeed, no one other than You forgives sins.”
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 48, Hadith 77
Ikrimah reported on the authority of Ibn Abbas, saying: I think the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: When one of you prays without a sutrah, a dog, an ass, a pig, a Jew, a Magian, and a woman cut off his prayer, but it will suffice if they pass in front of him at a distance of over a stone's throw.
Abu Dawud said: There is something about this tradition in my heart. I used to discuss it with Ibrahim and others. I did not find anyone who narrated it from Hisham and knew it. I did not know anyone who reported it from Hisham and knew it. I did not know anyone who related it from Hisham. I think the confusion is on the part of Ibn Abi Saminah that is, Muhammad b. Isma'il al-Basri, the freed slave of Banu Hisham. In this tradition the mention of words "a Magian" is rejected; the mention of the words "at a stone's throw" and "a pig" is rejected.
Abu Dawud said: I did not hear this tradition except from Muhammad b. Isma'il b. Samurrah and I think he was mistaken because he used to narrate to us from his memory.
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 2, Hadith 314
Abu Bakr invited a group of people and told me, "Look after your guests." Abu Bakr added, I am
going to visit the Prophet (ﷺ) and you should finish serving them before I return." `Abdur-Rahman said,
So I went at once and served them with what was available at that time in the house and requested
them to eat." They said, "Where is the owner of the house (i.e., Abu Bakr)?" `Abdur-Rahman said,
"Take your meal." They said, "We will not eat till the owner of the house comes." `Abdur-Rahman
said, "Accept your meal from us, for if my father comes and finds you not having taken your meal yet,
we will be blamed severely by him, but they refused to take their meals . So I was sure that my father
would be angry with me. When he came, I went away (to hide myself) from him. He asked, "What
have you done (about the guests)?" They informed him the whole story. Abu Bakr called, "O `Abdur
Rahman!" I kept quiet. He then called again. "O `Abdur-Rahman!" I kept quiet and he called again,
"O ignorant (boy)! I beseech you by Allah, if you hear my voice, then come out!" I came out and said,
"Please ask your guests (and do not be angry with me)." They said, "He has told the truth; he brought
the meal to us." He said, "As you have been waiting for me, by Allah, I will not eat of it tonight."
They said, "By Allah, we will not eat of it till you eat of it." He said, I have never seen a night like this
night in evil. What is wrong with you? Why don't you accept your meals of hospitality from us?" (He
said to me), "Bring your meal." I brought it to him, and he put his hand in it, saying, "In the name of
Allah. The first (state of fury) was because of Satan." So Abu Bakr ate and so did his guests.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 78, Hadith 167
"I used to forbid you to store the meat of the sacrifices for more than three days so that there would be enough for everyone. But now Allah, the mighty and sublime, has bestowed plenty upon us, so eat some, give some in charity and store some, For these days are the days of eating, drinking and remembering Allah." A man said: "O Messenger of Allah, we used to sacrifice the 'Atirah during the Jahiliyyah in Rajab; what do you command us to do?" He said: "Sacrifice to Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, whatever month it is, do good for the sake of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, and feed (the poor)." He said: "O Messenger of Allah, we used to sacrifice the Fara' during the Jahiliyyah; what do you command us to do?" He said: "For every flock of grazing animals, feed the firstborn as you feed the rest of your flock, until it reaches an age where it could be used to carry loads, then sacrifice it, and give its meat in charity to the wayfarer, for that is good."
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 41, Hadith 9
While we were with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) a bedouin got up and said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Settle my case
according to Allah's Book (Laws)." Then his opponent got up and said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! He has
said the truth! Settle his case according to Allah's Book (Laws.) and allow me to speak," He said, "My
son was a laborer for this man and he committed illegal sexual intercourse with his wife. The people
told me that my son should be stoned to death but I ransomed him with one-hundred sheep and a slave
girl. Then I asked the religious learned people and they told me that his wife should be stoned to death
and my son should receive one-hundred lashes and be sentenced to one year of exile.' The Prophet (ﷺ)
said, "By Him in Whose Hands my life is, I will judge between you according to Allah's Book (Laws):
As for the slave girl and the sheep, they are to be returned; and as for your son, he shall receive onehundred
lashes and will be exiled for one year. You, O Unais!" addressing a man from Bani Aslam,
"Go tomorrow morning to the wife of this (man) and if she confesses, then stone her to death." The
next morning Unais went to the wife and she confessed, and he stoned her to death.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 95, Hadith 14
Malik related to me that he had asked Ibn Shihab about a slave
who was released. He said, "He gives his wala' to whomever he likes.
If he dies and has not given his wala' to anyone, his inheritance goes
to the muslims and his blood-money is paid by them."
Malik
said, "The best of what has been heard about a slave who is released
is that no one gets his wala', and his inheritance goes to the
muslims, and they pay his blood-money."
Malik said that when
the slave of a jew or christian became muslim and he was freed before
being sold, the wala' of the freed slave went to the muslims. If the
jew or christian became muslim afterwards, the wala' did not revert to
him. "
He said, "However, if a jew or christian frees a slave
from their own deen, and then the freed one becomes muslim before the
jew or christian who freed him becomes muslim and then the one who
freed him has become muslim, his wala' reverts to him because the
wala' was confirmed for him on the day he freed him."
Malik
said that the muslim child of a jew or christian inherited the mawali
of his jewish or christian father when the freed mawla became muslim
before the one who freed him became muslim. If the freed one was
already muslim when he was freed, the muslim children of the christian
or jew had nothing of the wala' of a muslim slave because the jew and
the christian did not have the wala'. The wala' of a muslim slave went
to the community of muslims.
Muwatta Malik Book 38, Hadith 28
that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Indeed Allah will distinguish a man from my Ummah before all of creation on the Day of Judgement. Ninety-nine scrolls will be laid out for him, each scroll is as far as the eye can see, then He will say: 'Do you deny any of this? Have those who recorded this wronged you?' He will say: 'No, O Lord!' He will say: Do you have an excuse?' He will say: 'No, O Lord!' So He will say: 'Rather you have a good deed with us, so you shall not be wronged today." Then He will bring out a card (Bitaqah); on it will be: "I testify to La
Ilaha Illallah, and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger." He will say: 'Bring your scales.' He will say: 'O Lord! What good is this card next to these scrolls?' He will say: 'You shall not be wronged.' He said: 'The scrolls will be put on a pan (of the scale), and the card on (the other) pan: the scrolls will be light, and the card will be heavy, nothing is heavier than the Name of Allah.'"
