"The Prophet (S) stood (in prayer) with an Ayah from the Quran at night"

The Prophet (S) said to Abu Bakr: "I passed by you while you were reciting and your voice was low." He said: "I let He who, I was consulting hear." He said: "Raise your voice." Then he said to Umar: "I passed by while you were reciting and your voice was loud." So he said: "I repel drowsiness and keep Ash-Shaitan away." So he said: "Lower your voice."
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 2, Hadith 300 Next Hadith → "I asked Aishah how the recitation of the Prophet (S) was at night. So she said: 'He would do both of those. Sometimes he was silent with his recitation and sometimes it was audible.' So I said: 'All praise is due to Allah, the One who made the matter broad.'"
