While I was with the Prophet (ﷺ) in one of the gardens of Medina, a man came and asked me to open the
gate. The Prophet (ﷺ) said to me, "Open the gate for him and give him the glad tidings that he will enter
Paradise." I opened (the gate) for him, and behold! It was Abu Bakr. I informed him of the glad
tidings the Prophet (ﷺ) had said, and he praised Allah. Then another man came and asked me to open the
gate. The Prophet (ﷺ) said to me "Open (the gate) and give him the glad tidings of entering Paradise." I
opened (the gate) for him, and behold! It was `Umar. I informed him of what the Prophet (ﷺ) had said, and
he praised Allah. Then another man came and asked me to open the gate. The Prophet (ﷺ) said to me.
"Open (the gate) for him and inform him of the glad tidings, of entering Paradise with a calamity
which will befall him. " Behold ! It was `Uthman, I informed him of what Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had said.
He praised Allah and said, "I seek Allah's Aid."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 62, Hadith 43
that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) dispatched an army and he put 'Ali bin Abi Talib in charge of it. He left on the expedition and he entered upon a female slave. So four of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) scolded him, and they made a pact saying: " we meet the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) we will inform him of what 'Ali did." When the Muslims returned from the journey, they would begin with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and give him Salam, then they would go to their homes. So when the expedition arrived, they gave Salam to the Prophet (ﷺ), and one of the four stood saying: "O Messenger of Allah! Do you see that 'Ali bin Abi Talib did such and such." The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) turned away from him. Then the second one stood and said as he said, and he turned away from him. Then the third stood before him, and said as he said, and he turned away from him. Then the fourth stood and said as they had said. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) faced him, and the anger was visible on his face, he said: "What do you want from 'Ali?! What do you want from 'Ali?! What do you want from 'Ali?! Indeed 'Ali is from me, and I am from him, and he is the ally of every believer after me."
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 49, Hadith 108
The news of my fasting was mentioned to the Prophet (ﷺ) . So he entered upon me and I put for him a
leather cushion stuffed with palm-fibres. The Prophet (ﷺ) sat on the floor and the cushion was between me
and him. He said to me, "Isn't it sufficient for you (that you fast) three days a month?" I said, "O
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! (I can fast more than this)." He said, "You may fast) five days a month." I said, "O
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! (I can fast more than this)." He said, "(You may fast) seven days." I said, "O Allah's
Apostle!" He said, "Nine." I said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)!" He said, "Eleven." I said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)!"
He said, "No fasting is superior to the fasting of (the Prophet (ﷺ) David) which was one half of a year, and
he used, to fast on alternate days. (See Hadith No. 300, Vol 3)
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 79, Hadith 51
Aisha said that whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) intended to go on a journey, he drew lots among his wives (so as
to take one of them along with him). During one of his journeys the lot fell on `Aisha and Hafsa.
When night fell the Prophet (ﷺ) would ride beside `Aisha and talk with her. One night Hafsa said to
`Aisha, "Won't you ride my camel tonight and I ride yours, so that you may see (me) and I see (you)
(in new situation)?" `Aisha said, "Yes, (I agree.)" So `Aisha rode, and then the Prophet (ﷺ) came towards
`Aisha's camel on which Hafsa was riding. He greeted Hafsa and then proceeded (beside her) till they
dismounted (on the way). `Aisha missed him, and so, when they dismounted, she put her legs in the
Idhkhir and said, "O Lord (Allah)! Send a scorpion or a snake to bite me for I am not to blame him
(the Prophet (ﷺ) ).
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 67, Hadith 144
Behold, my Lord commanded me that I should teach you which you do not know and which He has taught me today. (He has instructed thus): The property which I have conferred upon them is lawful for them. I have created My servants as one having a natural inclination to the worship of Allah but it is Satan who turns them away from the right religion and he makes unlawful what has been declared lawful for them and he commands them to ascribe partnership with Me, although he has no justification for that. And verily, Allah looked towards the people of the world and He showed hatred for the Arabs and the non-Arabs, but with the exception of some remnants from the People of the Book. And He (further) said: I have sent thee (the Holy Prophet) in order to put you to test and put (those to test) through you. And I sent the Book to you which cannot be washed away by water, so that you may recite it while in the state of wakefulness or sleep. Verily, Allah commanded me to burn (kill) the Quraish. I said: My Lord, they would break my head (like the tearing) of bread, and Allah said: You turn them out as they turned you out, you fight against them and We shall help you in this, you should spend and you would be conferred upon. You send an army and I would send an army five times greater than that. Fight against those who disobey you along with those who obey you. The inmates of Paradise are three: One who wields authority and is just and fair, one who Is truthful and has been endowed with power to do good deeds. And the person who is merciful and kind hearted towards his relatives and to every pious Muslim, and one who does not stretch his hand in spite of having a large family to support. And He said: The inmates of Hell are five: the weak who lack power to (avoid evil), the (carefree) who pursue (everything irrespective of the fact that it is good or evil) and who do not have any care for their family or for their wealth. And those dishonest whose greed cannot be concealed even in the case of minor things. And the third. who betray you. morning and evening, in regard to your family and your property. He also made a mention of the miser and the liar and those who are in the habit of abusing people and using obscene and foul language. Abu Ghassan in his narration did not make mention of" Spend and there would be spent for you."
Sahih Muslim Book 53, Hadith 76
Once Allah's Messenger (ﷺ); offered the morning prayer and then faced the people and said, "While a man
was driving a cow, he suddenly rode over it and beat it. The cow said, "We have not been created for
this, but we have been created for sloughing." On that the people said astonishingly, "Glorified be
Allah! A cow speaks!" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "I believe this, and Abu Bakr and `Umar too, believe it,
although neither of them was present there. While a person was amongst his sheep, a wolf attacked
and took one of the sheep. The man chased the wolf till he saved it from the wolf, where upon the
wolf said, 'You have saved it from me; but who will guard it on the day of the wild beasts when there
will be no shepherd to guard them except me (because of riots and afflictions)? ' " The people said
surprisingly, "Glorified be Allah! A wolf speaks!" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "But I believe this, and Abu Bakr
and `Umar too, believe this, although neither of them was present there." (See the Foot-note of page

Sahih al-Bukhari Book 60, Hadith 138
"A Jew said to his companion: 'Let us go to this Prophet.' His companion said to him: 'Do not say Prophet; if he hears you, he will become big-headed.' So they came to the Messenger of Allah and asked him about nine clear signs. He said to them: 'Do not associate anything with Allah, do not steal, do not commit adultery, do not kill any soul whom Allah has forbidden you to kill, except by right, do not speak falsely about an innocent man before a ruler, do not engage in magic, do not consume Riba (usury), do not slander chaste women, and do not flee on the day of the march (to battle). And for you Jews especially, do not break the Sabbath.' They kissed his hands and feet and said: 'We bear witness that you are a Prophet.' He said: 'What is keeping you from following me?' They said: 'Dawud prayed that there would always be a Prophet among his descendants, and we are afraid that if we follow you, the Jews will kill us.'"
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 37, Hadith 113
Who would speak to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) about her? They (again) said: Who can dare do this but Usama b. Zaid, the loved one of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)? She was brought to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and Usama b. Zaid spoke about her to him (interceded on her behalf). The color of the face of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) changed, and he said: Do you intercede in one of the prescribed punishments of Allah? He (Usama) said: 'Messenger of Allah, seek forgiveness for me.' When it was dusk. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) stood up and gave an address. He (first) glorified Allah as He deserves, and then said: Now to our topic. This (injustice) destroyed those before you that when any one of (high) rank committed theft among them, they spared him, and when any weak one among them committed theft, they inflicted the prescribed punishment upon him. By Him in Whose Hand is my life, even if Fatima daughter of Muhammad were to commit theft, I would have cut off her hand. He (the Holy Prophet) then commanded about that woman who had committed theft, and her hand was cut off. `A'isha (further) said: Hers was a good repentance, and she later on married and used to come to me after that, and I conveyed her needs (and problems) to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ).
Sahih Muslim Book 29, Hadith 14
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "While I was at Mecca the roof of my house was opened and Gabriel descended,
opened my chest, and washed it with Zamzam water. Then he brought a golden tray full of wisdom
and faith and having poured its contents into my chest, he closed it. Then he took my hand and
ascended with me to the nearest heaven, when I reached the nearest heaven, Gabriel said to the
gatekeeper of the heaven, 'Open (the gate).' The gatekeeper asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel answered:
'Gabriel.' He asked, 'Is there anyone with you?' Gabriel replied, 'Yes, Muhammad I is with me.' He
asked, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel said, 'Yes.' So the gate was opened and we went over the nearest
heaven and there we saw a man sitting with some people on his right and some on his left. When he
looked towards his right, he laughed and when he looked toward his left he wept. Then he said,
'Welcome! O pious Prophet and pious son.' I asked Gabriel, 'Who is he?' He replied, 'He is Adam and
the people on his right and left are the souls of his offspring. Those on his right are the people of
Paradise and those on his left are the people of Hell and when he looks towards his right he laughs and
when he looks towards his left he weeps.'
Then he ascended with me till he reached the second heaven and he (Gabriel) said to its gatekeeper,
'Open (the gate).' The gatekeeper said to him the same as the gatekeeper of the first heaven had said
and he opened the gate. Anas said: "Abu Dhar added that the Prophet (ﷺ) met Adam, Idris, Moses, Jesus
and Abraham, he (Abu Dhar) did not mention on which heaven they were but he mentioned that he
(the Prophet (ﷺ) ) met Adam on the nearest heaven and Abraham on the sixth heaven. Anas said, "When
Gabriel along with the Prophet (ﷺ) passed by Idris, the latter said, 'Welcome! O pious Prophet and pious
brother.' The Prophet (ﷺ) asked, 'Who is he?' Gabriel replied, 'He is Idris." The Prophet (ﷺ) added, "I passed
by Moses and he said, 'Welcome! O pious Prophet and pious brother.' I asked Gabriel, 'Who is he?'
Gabriel replied, 'He is Moses.' Then I passed by Jesus and he said, 'Welcome! O pious brother and
pious Prophet.' I asked, 'Who is he?' Gabriel replied, 'He is Jesus.
Then I passed by Abraham and he said, 'Welcome! O pious Prophet and pious son.' I asked Gabriel,
'Who is he?' Gabriel replied, 'He is Abraham. The Prophet (ﷺ) added, 'Then Gabriel ascended with me to a
place where I heard the creaking of the pens." Ibn Hazm and Anas bin Malik said: The Prophet (ﷺ) said,
"Then Allah enjoined fifty prayers on my followers when I returned with this order of Allah, I passed
by Moses who asked me, 'What has Allah enjoined on your followers?' I replied, 'He has enjoined
fifty prayers on them.' Moses said, 'Go back to your Lord (and appeal for reduction) for your followers
will not be able to bear it.' (So I went back to Allah and requested for reduction) and He reduced it to
half. When I passed by Moses again and informed him about it, he said, 'Go back to your Lord as your
followers will not be able to bear it.' So I returned to Allah and requested for further reduction and
half of it was reduced. I again passed by Moses and he said to me: 'Return to your Lord, for your
followers will not be able to bear it. So I returned to Allah and He said, 'These are five prayers and
they are all (equal to) fifty (in reward) for My Word does not change.' I returned to Moses and he told
me to go back once again. I replied, 'Now I feel shy of asking my Lord again.' Then Gabriel took me
till we '' reached Sidrat-il-Muntaha (Lote tree of; the utmost boundary) which was shrouded in colors,
indescribable. Then I was admitted into Paradise where I found small (tents or) walls (made) of pearls
and its earth was of musk."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 8, Hadith 1
Yahya related to me from Malik from Hisham ibn Urwa that Abdullah
ibn az-Zubayr used to say, "Know that the whole of Arafa is a
standing-place except for the middle of Urana, and that the wholeof
Muzdalifa is a standing-place except for the middle of Muhassir."
Malik said, "Allah, the Blessed and Exalted says, 'There is to be
no rafath, no fusuq and no jidal during the hajj.' " (Sura 2 ayat
197).
He added, "Rafath is sexual relations with women, and
Allah knows best. Allah, the Blessed and Exalted says, 'Rafath with
your women is permitted to you on the night of the fast.' (Sura 2 ayat
197). Fusuq are sacrifices made to idols, and Allah knows best. Allah,
the Blessed and Exalted, says, 'Or a fisq offered up to other than
Allah.' (Sura 2 ayat 197) Jidal (arguing) during the hajj refers to
when the Quraysh used to stand near the mashar al-haram at Quzah in
Muzdalifa, while the Arabs and others would stand at Arafa, and they
would argue about who was the more correct. Allah, the Blessed and
Exalted, says, 'And we appointed a method of sacrifice for every
nation, which they followed, so let them not dispute with you about
the matter, and call to your Lord. Surely you are on a straight
guidance.' (Sura 22 ayat 67) This is what jidal refers to in our
opinion, and Allah knows best. This I have heard from the people of
knowledge."
Muwatta Malik Book 20, Hadith 179
One day while the Prophet (ﷺ) was sitting in the company of some people,
(The angel) Gabriel came and asked, "What is faith?" Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)
replied, 'Faith is to believe in Allah, His angels, (the) meeting with
Him, His Apostles, and to believe in Resurrection." Then he further
asked, "What is Islam?" Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) replied, "To worship Allah
Alone and none else, to offer prayers perfectly to pay the compulsory
charity (Zakat) and to observe fasts during the month of Ramadan."
Then he further asked, "What is Ihsan (perfection)?" Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)
replied, "To worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you cannot
achieve this state of devotion then you must consider that He is
looking at you." Then he further asked, "When will the Hour be
established?" Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) replied, "The answerer has no better
knowledge than the questioner. But I will inform you about its
portents.
1. When a slave (lady) gives birth to her master.
2. When the shepherds of black camels start boasting and competing
with others in the construction of higher buildings. And the Hour is
one of five things which nobody knows except Allah.
The Prophet (ﷺ) then recited: "Verily, with Allah (Alone) is the knowledge
of the Hour--." (31. 34) Then that man (Gabriel) left and the Prophet (ﷺ)
asked his companions to call him back, but they could not see him.
Then the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "That was Gabriel who came to teach the people
their religion." Abu 'Abdullah said: He (the Prophet) considered all
that as a part of faith.
