He said, "Yahya ibn Yahya al-Laythi related to me from Malik ibn
Anas from Ibn Shihab that one day Umar ibn Abdal-Aziz delayed the
prayer. Urwa ibn az-Zubayr came and told him that al-Mughira ibn Shuba
had delayed the prayer one day while he was in Kufa and Abu Masud al-
Ansari had come to him and said, 'What's this, Mughira? Don't you know
that the angel Jibril came down and prayed and the Messenger of Allah,
may Allah bless him and grant him peace, prayed.' Then he prayed
again, and the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him
peace, prayed. Then he prayed again, and the Messenger of Allah, may
Allah bless him and grant him peace, prayed. Then he prayed again, and
the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace,
prayed. Then he prayed again, and the Messenger of Allah, may Allah
bless him and grant him peace, prayed. Then Jibril said, 'This is what
you have been ordered to do.' Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz said, 'Be sure of
what you relate, Urwa. Was it definitely Jibril who established the
time of the prayer for the Messenger of Allah?' " Urwa said, "That's
how it was related to Bashir ibn Abi Masud al-Ansari by his father."
Muwatta Malik Book 1, Hadith 1
"When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went to Quba' he used to come to Umm Haram bint Milhan and she would feed him. Umm Haram was married to 'Ubadah bint As-Samit. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ entered upon her and she fed him and checked his head for lice. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) fell asleep, then he woke up smiling. She said: 'What is making you smile, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Some people of my Ummah were shown to me, fighting in the cause of Allah and riding across the sea like kings on thrones.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah to make me one of them.' So the Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah to make me one of them.' So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prayed for her then he slept again.'" (One of narrators) Al-Harith, said (in his narration): "He slept then he woke up smiling. I said to him: 'What is making you smile, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Some people of my Ummah were shown to me, fighting in the cause of Allah and riding across the sea like kings on thrones,' as he had said the first time. I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah to make me one of them.' He said: 'You will be one of the first.' And she traveled by sea at the time of Mu'awiyah, then she fell from her mount when she came out of the sea and died."
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 25, Hadith 87
While I was with the Prophet (ﷺ) in one of the gardens of Medina, a man came and asked me to open the
gate. The Prophet (ﷺ) said to me, "Open the gate for him and give him the glad tidings that he will enter
Paradise." I opened (the gate) for him, and behold! It was Abu Bakr. I informed him of the glad
tidings the Prophet (ﷺ) had said, and he praised Allah. Then another man came and asked me to open the
gate. The Prophet (ﷺ) said to me "Open (the gate) and give him the glad tidings of entering Paradise." I
opened (the gate) for him, and behold! It was `Umar. I informed him of what the Prophet (ﷺ) had said, and
he praised Allah. Then another man came and asked me to open the gate. The Prophet (ﷺ) said to me.
"Open (the gate) for him and inform him of the glad tidings, of entering Paradise with a calamity
which will befall him. " Behold ! It was `Uthman, I informed him of what Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had said.
He praised Allah and said, "I seek Allah's Aid."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 62, Hadith 43
“I used
to
guide my father after he lost his sight, and when I took him out
for
the Friday (prayer), when he heard the Adhan he would pray for
forgiveness for Abu Umamah As’ad bin Zurarah, and supplicate for
him.
I heard that from him for a while, then I said to myself: ‘By
Allah!
What is this weakness? Every time he heard the Adhan for
Friday
(prayer) I hear him praying for forgiveness for Abu Umamah and
supplicate for him, and I do not ask him about why he does that.’
Then
I took him out for Friday (prayer), as I used to take him out,
and
when he heard the Adhan he prayed for forgiveness as he used to
do. I
said to him: ‘O my father! I see you supplicating for As’ad
bin
Zurarah every time you hear the call for Friday; why is that?’
He
said: ‘O my son, he was the first one who led us for the Friday
prayer
before the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came from Makkah, in Naqi’
Al-
Khadamat (a place near Al-Madinah), in the plain of Harrah Banu
Bayadah.’ I asked: ‘How many of you were there at that time?’
He said:
‘Forty men.’”
Sunan Ibn Majah Book 5, Hadith 280
I was sitting in a circle in the mosque of Medina and there was an old man, quite handsome. He was 'Abdullah b. Salim. He was telling good things to them (to the people sitting in that company). As he stood up (to depart) the people said: He who is desirous of looking at a person from amongst the people of Paradise should see him. I said: By Allah, I will follow him, and would try to know his residence. So I followed him and he walked on until he reached the outskirts of Medina. He then entered his house. I sought permission from him to get in, and he granted me the permission, saying: My nephew, what is the need (that has brought you here)? I said to him: As you stood up, I heard people say about you: He who is desirous of seeing a person from among the people of Paradise should look at him. So I became desirous of accompanying you. He ('Abdullah b. Salim) said: It is Allah Who knows best about the people of Paradise. I would, however, narrate to you as to why they said like it. (The story is) that while I was asleep (one night) there came to me a person (in the dream) who asked me to stand up. (So I stood up) and he caught hold of my hand and I walked along with him, and, lo, I found some paths on my left and I was about to set out upon them. Thereupon he said to me Do not set yourself on (them) for these are the paths of the leftists (denizens of Hell-fire). Then there were paths leading to the right side, whereupon he said: Set yourself on these paths. We came across a hill and he said to me: Climb up, and I attempted to climb up that I fell upon my buttocks. I made several attempts (but failed to succeed). He led until he came to a pillar (so high) that its upper end touched the sky and its base was in the earth. And there was a handhold at its upper end. He said to me Climb over it. I said: How can I climb upon it, as its upper end touches the sky? He cought hold of my hand and pushed me up and I found myself suspended with the handhold. He then struck the pillar and it fell down, but I remained attached to that handhold until it was morning (and the dream was thus over). I came to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) and narrated it to him. He said: So far as the paths which you saw on your left are concerned, these are paths of the leftists (denizens of Hell) and the paths which you saw on your right, these are the paths of the rightists (the dwellers of Paradise) and the mountain represents the destination of the martyrs which you would not be able to attain. The pillar implies the pillar of Islam. and so far as the handhold is concerned, it implies the handhold of Islam, and you would hold to it fastly until you would meet death.
Sahih Muslim Book 44, Hadith 213
A man came to perform the Hajj to (Allah's) House. Seeing some people sitting, he said, "Who are
these sitting people?" Somebody said, "They are the people of Quraish." He said, "Who is the old
man?" They said, "Ibn `Umar." He went to him and said, "I want to ask you about something; will you
tell me about it? I ask you with the respect due to the sanctity of this (Sacred) House, do you know
that `Uthman bin `Affan fled on the day of Uhud?" Ibn `Umar said, "Yes." He said, "Do you know
that he (i.e. `Uthman) was absent from the Badr (battle) and did not join it?" Ibn `Umar said, "Yes."
He said, "Do you know that he failed to be present at the Ridwan Pledge of allegiance (i.e. Pledge of
allegiance at Hudaibiya) and did not witness it?" Ibn `Umar replied, "Yes," He then said, "Allahu-
Akbar!" Ibn `Umar said, "Come along; I will inform you and explain to you what you have asked. As
for the flight (of `Uthman) on the day of Uhud, I testify that Allah forgave him. As regards his
absence from the Badr (battle), he was married to the daughter of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and she was ill, so
the Prophet (ﷺ) said to him, 'You will have such reward as a man who has fought the Badr battle will get,
and will also have the same share of the booty.' As for his absence from the Ridwan Pledge of
allegiance if there had been anybody more respected by the Meccans than `Uthman bin `Affan, the
Prophet would surely have sent that man instead of `Uthman. So the Prophet (ﷺ) sent him (i.e. `Uthman to
Mecca) and the Ridwan Pledge of allegiance took place after `Uthman had gone to Mecca. The
Prophet raised his right hand saying. 'This is the hand of `Uthman,' and clapped it over his other hand
and said, "This is for `Uthman.'" Ibn `Umar then said (to the man), "Go now, after taking this
information."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 64, Hadith 111
That during the Year of the Conquest, while he was in Makkah, he heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying: "Indeed Allah and His Messenger unlawful the sale of wine, dead carcasses, the pig, and idols." They said: "O Messenger of Allah! What about the fat of carcasses? For indeed it is used to coat the ships, skins are oiled with it, and people use it for lamps?" He said: "No. It is unlawful." Then, with that, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "May Allah fight (curse) the Jews! Indeed Allah made the fat unlawful for them, they melted it, sold it, and consumed its price."
There are narrations of this topic from 'Umar and Ibn 'Abbas.
The Hadith of Jabir is Hasan Sahih Hadith. This is acted upon according to the people of knowledge.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 14, Hadith 99
“A Jew from among the Jews of Bani
Zuraiq, whose name was Labid bin A’sam, cast a spell on the Prophet
(ﷺ), and the Prophet (ﷺ) began to imagine that he had done
something when he had not. One day, or one night, the Messenger of
Allah (ﷺ) supplicated, and then supplicated again. Then he said: ‘O
‘Aishah, do you know that Allah has instructed me concerning the
matter I asked Him about? Two men came to me, and one of them sat at
my head and the other at my feet. The one at my head said to the one at my feet, or the one at my feet said to the one at my head "what is ailing this man ?" He
said: “He has been affected by a spell.” He said: “Who cast the
spell on him?” He said: “Labid bin A’sam.” He said: “With
what?” He said: “With a comb and the hairs stuck to it, and the
spathe of a male date palm.” He said: “Where is that?” He said:
“In the well of Dhu Arwan.”
She said: “So the Prophet (ﷺ) went to it, with a group of his Companions, then he came and said: ‘By Allah. O ‘Aishah. It was as if its water was infused with henna and its date palms were like the heads of devils.’”
She said: “I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, why don’t you burn them?’ He said: ‘As for me, Allah has healed me, and I do not like to let evil spread among the people.’ Then he issued orders that the well be filled up with earth.”
Sunan Ibn Majah Book 31, Hadith 110
When Allah gave Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) what he gave of the properties of the Hawazin tribe as a war booty,
the Prophet (ﷺ) started giving some men 100 camels each. The Ansar (then) said, "May Allah forgive
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)s as he gives to Quraish and leaves us although our swords are still dribbling with the
blood of Quraish." Allah Apostle was informed of their statement, so he sent for the Ansar and
gathered them in a leather tent, and did not call anybody else along with them. When they al I
gathered, the Prophet (ﷺ) got up and said, "What is this talk being informed to me about you?" The
learned men amongst the Ansar said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Our chiefs did not say anything, but some
people amongst us who are younger in age said. 'May Allah forgive Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as he gives (of the
booty) to Quraish and leaves us though our swords are still dribbling with their blood." The Prophet (ﷺ)
said, "I give to these men who have newly deserted heathenism (and embraced Islam) so as to attract
their hearts. Won't you be happy that the people take the wealth while you take the Prophet (ﷺ) with you
to your homes? By Allah, what you are taking is better than whatever they are taking." They (i.e. the
Ansar) said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! We are satisfied." The Prophet (ﷺ) then said to them. "You will find
others favored over you greatly, so be patient till you meet Allah and His Apostle and I will be at the
Tank then." Anas added: But they did not remain patient.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 64, Hadith 360
An Ansari woman who gave the pledge of allegiance to the Prophet (ﷺ) that the Ansar drew lots
concerning the dwelling of the Emigrants. `Uthman bin Maz'un was decided to dwell with them (i.e.
Um Al-`Ala's family), `Uthman fell ill and I nursed him till he died, and we covered him with his
clothes. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) came to us and I (addressing the dead body) said, "O Abu As-Sa'ib, may
Allah's Mercy be on you! I bear witness that Allah has honored you." On that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "How
do you know that Allah has honored him?" I replied, "I do not know. May my father and my mother
be sacrificed for you, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! But who else is worthy of it (if not `Uthman)?" He said, "As
to him, by Allah, death has overtaken him, and I hope the best for him. By Allah, though I am the
Apostle of Allah, yet I do not know what Allah will do to me," By Allah, I will never assert the piety
of anyone after him. That made me sad, and when I slept I saw in a dream a flowing stream for
`Uthman bin Maz'un. I went to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and told him of it. He remarked, "That symbolizes his
(good) deeds."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 63, Hadith 154
