I heard from Sa`d, the first man who has thrown an arrow in Allah's Cause, and from Abu Bakra who
jumped over the wall of the Ta'if Fort along with a few persons and came to the Prophet. They both
said, "We heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, " If somebody claims to be the son of somebody other than his
father knowingly, he will be denied Paradise (i.e. he will not enter Paradise).' "
Narrated Ma`mar from `Asim from Abu Al-`Aliya or Abu `Uthman An-Nahdi who said. "I heard Sa`d
and Abu Bakra narrating from the Prophet." `Asim said, "I said (to him), 'Very trustworthy persons
have narrated to you.' He said, 'Yes, one of them was the first to throw an arrow in Allah's Cause and
the other came to the Prophet (ﷺ) in a group of thirty-three persons from Ta'if.'
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 64, Hadith 356
That they were with the Prophet (ﷺ) on a journey. They travelled the whole night, and when dawn
approached, they took a rest and sleep overwhelmed them till the sun rose high in the sky. The first to
get up was Abu Bakr. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)s used not to be awakened from his sleep, but he would wake up
by himself. `Umar woke up and then Abu Bakr sat by the side of the Prophet's head and started
saying: Allahu-Akbar raising his voice till the Prophet (ﷺ) woke up, (and after traveling for a while) he
dismounted and led us in the morning prayer. A man amongst the people failed to join us in the
prayer. When the Prophet (ﷺ) had finished the prayer, he asked (the man), "O so-and-so! What prevented
you from offering the prayer with us?" He replied, "I am Junub," Alllah's Apostle ordered him to
perform Tayammam with clean earth.
The man then offered the prayer. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ordered me and a few others to go ahead of him. We
had become very thirsty. While we were on our way (looking for water), we came across a lady
(riding an animal), hanging her legs between two water-skins. We asked her, "Where can we get
water?" She replied, "Oh ! There is no water." We asked, "how far is your house from the water?" She
replied, "A distance of a day and a night travel." We said, "Come on to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), "She asked,
"What is Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ?" So we brought her to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) against her will, and she told him
what she had told us before and added that she was the mother of orphans. So the Prophet (ﷺ) ordered that
her two water-skins be brought and he rubbed the mouths of the water-skins. As we were thirsty, we
drank till we quenched our thirst and we were forty men. We also filled all our waterskins and other
utensils with water, but we did not water the camels. The waterskin was so full that it was almost
about to burst.
The Prophet (ﷺ) then said, "Bring what (foodstuff) you have." So some dates and pieces of bread were
collected for the lady, and when she went to her people, she said, "I have met either the greatest
magician or a prophet as the people claim." So Allah guided the people of that village through that
lady. She embraced Islam and they all embraced Islam.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 61, Hadith 80
Malik related to me that Yahya ibn Said heard Said ibn al-
Musayyab say, "When Umar ibn al-Khattab came from Mina, he made his
camel kneel at al-Abtah, and then he gathered a pile of small stones
and cast his cloak over them and dropped to the ground. Then he raised
his hands to the sky and said, 'O Allah! I have become old and my
strength has weakened. My flock is scattered. Take me to You with
nothing missed out and without having neglected anything.' Then he
went to Madina and addressed the people. He said, 'People! Sunan have
been laid down for you. Obligations have been placed upon you. You
have been left with a clear way unless you lead people astray right
and left.' He struck one of his hands on the other and then said,
'Take care lest you destroy the ayat of stoning so that one will say,
"We do not find two hadds in the Book of Allah." The Messenger of
Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, stoned, so we have
stoned. By He in Whose Hand my self is, had it not been that people
would say that Umar ibn al-Khattab has added to the Book of Allah ta-
ala, we would have written it, "The full-grown man and the full-grown
woman, stone them absolutely." We have certainly recited that.'"
Malik said, "Yahya ibn Said said Said ibn al-Musayyab said,
'Dhu'l-Hijja had not passed before Umar was murdered, may Allah have
mercy on him.' "
Yahya said that he had heard Malik say, "As
for his words 'The full-grown man and the full-grown woman' he meant,
'The man and the woman who have been married, stone them absolutely.'
"
Muwatta Malik Book 41, Hadith 10
Once I set out to visit `Umar (bin Al-Khattab). (While I was sitting there with him his gate-keeper,
Yarfa, came and said, "Uthman `AbdurRahman (bin `Auf), Az-Zubair and Sa`d (bin Abi Waqqas) are
seeking permission (to meet you)." `Umar said, "Yes. So he admitted them and they entered, greeted,
and sat down. After a short while Yarfa came again and said to `Umar 'Shall I admit `Ali and
`Abbas?" `Umar said, "Yes." He admitted them and when they entered, they greeted and sat down.
`Abbas said, "O Chief of the Believers! Judge between me and this (`Ali)." The group, `Uthman and
his companions Sa`d, 'O Chief of the Believers! Judge between them and relieve one from the other."
`Umar said. Wait! I beseech you by Allah, by Whose permission both the Heaven and the Earth stand
fast ! Do you know that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said. 'We (Apostles) do not bequeath anything to our heirs,
but whatever we leave is to be given in charity.' And by that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)s meant himself?" The
group said, "He did say so." `Umar then turned towards 'All and `Abbas and said. "I beseech you both
by Allah, do you know that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said that?" They said, 'Yes "
`Umar said, "Now, let me talk to you about this matter. Allah favored His Apostle with something of
this property (war booty) which He did not give to anybody else. And Allah said:-- 'And what Allah
has bestowed on His Apostle (as Fai Booty) from them for which you made no expedition with either
cavalry or camelry . . . Allah is Able to do all things.' (59.6) So this property was especially granted to
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). But by Allah he neither withheld it from you, nor did he keep it for himself and
deprive you of it, but he gave it all to you and distributed it among you till only this remained out of it.
And out of this property Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to provide his family with their yearly needs, and
whatever remained, he would spend where Allah's Property (the revenues of Zakat) used to be spent.
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) kept on acting like this throughout his lifetime. Now I beseech you by Allah, do you
know that?"
They said, "Yes."
Then `Umar said to `Ali and `Abbas, "I beseech you by Allah, do you both know that?" They said,
"Yes."
`Umar added, "When Allah had taken His Apostle unto Him, Abu Bakr said, 'I am the successor of
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). So he took charge of that property and did with it the same what Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used
to do, and both of you knew all about it then."
Then `Umar turned towards `Ali and `Abbas and said, "You both claim that Abu- Bakr was so-and-so!
But Allah knows that he was honest, sincere, pious and right (in that matter).
Then Allah caused Abu Bakr to die, and I said, 'I am the successor of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and Abu Bakr.'
So I kept this property in my possession for the first two years of my rule, and I used to do the same
with it as Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and Abu Bakr used to do. Later both of you (`Ali and `Abbas) came to me
with the same claim and the same problem. (O `Abbas!) You came to me demanding your share from
(the inheritance of) the son of your brother, and he (`Ali) came to me demanding his wives share from
(the inheritance of) her father.
So I said to you, 'If you wish I will hand over this property to you, on condition that you both promise
me before Allah that you will manage it in the same way as Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and Abu Bakr did, and as
I have done since the beginning of my rule; otherwise you should not speak to me about it.' So you
both said, 'Hand over this property to us on this condition.' And on this condition I handed it over to
you.
I beseech you by Allah, did I hand it over to them on that condition?" The group said, "Yes."
`Umar then faced `Ali and `Abbas and said, "I beseech you both by Allah, did I hand it over to you
both on that condition?" They both said, "Yes."
`Umar added, "Do you want me now to give a decision other than that? By Him with Whose
permission (order) both the Heaven and the Earth stand fast, I will never give any decision other than
that till the Hour is established! But if you are unable to manage it (that property), then return it to me
and I will be sufficient for it on your behalf . "
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 69, Hadith 8
A bedouin came to the Prophet (ﷺ) while he (the Prophet) was sitting, and said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Give
your verdict according to Allah's Laws (in our case)." Then his opponent got up and said, "He has told
the truth, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Decide his case according to Allah's Laws. My son was a laborer
working for this person, and he committed illegal sexual intercourse with his wife, and the people told
me that my son should be stoned to death, but I offered one-hundred sheep and a slave girl as a
ransom for him. Then I asked the religious learned people, and they told me that my son should be
flogged with one-hundred stripes and be exiled for one year." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "By Him in Whose
Hand my soul is, I will judge you according to Allah's Laws. The sheep and the slave girl will be
returned to you and your son will be flogged one-hundred stripes and be exiled for one year. And you,
O Unais! Go to the wife of this man (and if she confesses), stone her to death." So Unais went in the
morning and stoned her to death (after she had confessed).
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 86, Hadith 60
"Verily, Tamim Ad-Dari narrated a story to me, and it made me happy, so I wanted to narrate it to you. Some people among the inhabitants of Palestine traveled by boat in the sea, taking them here and there, until it cast them on an island among the islands at sea. There they found a beast, clothed with its hair flowing out. They said: 'What are you?' It said: 'I am Al-Jassasah.' They said: 'Give us some news.' It said: 'I shall not give you any news, nor do I want any of your news. But go to the furthest village, for there is someone who will give you news and seek your news.' So we went to the furthest village, and there was a man fettered with chains. He said: 'Inform me about the spring of Zughar.' We said: ' It is full and flowing.' He said: 'Inform me about Al-Buhairah.' We said,'It is full and flowing.' He said: 'Inform me about the date groves of Baysan which is between Jordan and Palestine, do they produce food?' We said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Inform me about the Prophet, has he been sent?' We said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Inform me how the people came to him.' We said: 'Quickly.' He leaped up to try and escape.' We said: 'What are you?' He said: 'I am the Dajjal.'" (The Prophet(s.a.w) said) "He will enter all of the lands except At-Taibah, and At-Taibah is Al-Madinah."
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 33, Hadith 96
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), the true and truly inspired said, "(as regards your creation), every one of you is
collected in the womb of his mother for the first forty days, and then he becomes a clot for another
forty days, and then a piece of flesh for another forty days. Then Allah sends an angel to write four
items: He writes his deeds, time of his death, means of his livelihood, and whether he will be
wretched or blessed (in religion). Then the soul is breathed into his body. So a man may do deeds
characteristic of the people of the (Hell) Fire, so much so that there is only the distance of a cubit
between him and it, and then what has been written (by the angel) surpasses, and so he starts doing
deeds characteristic of the people of Paradise and enters Paradise. Similarly, a person may do deeds
characteristic of the people of Paradise, so much so that there is only the distance of a cubit between
him and it, and then what has been written (by the angel) surpasses, and he starts doing deeds of the
people of the (Hell) Fire and enters the (Hell) Fire."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 60, Hadith 7
"I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah when a man came with a string around his neck and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, this man and my brother were digging a hole, and he raised his pickax and struck his companion in the head, Killing him. 'The Prophet said: 'Forgive him,' but he refused and said: 'O Prophet of Allah, this man and my brother were digging a whole, and he raised his pickax and struck his companion in the head, killing him.' The Prophet said: 'Forgive him,' but he refused, then he stood up and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, this man and my brother were digging a hole, and he raised his pickax and struck his companion in the head, killing him.' The Prophet said: 'Forgive him,' but he refused. He (the prophet) said: 'Go, but if you kill him, you will be like him. So he took him out, and they called out to him: Didn't you hear what the Messenger of Allah said?' So he came back and he said: 'If I kill him will I be like him?' He said: 'Yes. Forgive him.' Then he went out, dragging his string, until he disappeared from our view."
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 45, Hadith 21
I came to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and said: Allah's Messenger, we are in the land of the People of the Book, (so) we eat in their utensils, and (live) in a hunting region. where I hunt with, the help of my bow, and hunt with my trained dog, or with my dog which is not trained. So inform me what is lawful (Halal) for us out of that. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Regarding what you have mentioned of the fact that you live in the land belonging to the People of the Book and so you eat in their utensils, but if you can get utensils other than theirs, then don't eat in them; but if you do not find any, then wash them and eat in them. And regarding what you have mentioned about (your living) in a hunting region, what you hunt, (strike) with the help of your bow, recite the name of Allah (while shooting an arrow) and then eat; and what you catch with the help of your trained dog, recite the name of Allah (while letting oil) the dog and then eat it, and what you get with the help of your untrained dog, (if you find it alive) and slaughter it (according to the law of the Shari'ah), eat it.
Sahih Muslim Book 34, Hadith 12
Yahya related to me from Malik from Hisham ibn Urwa from his
father from A'isha umm al-muminin that the Messenger of Allah, may
Allah bless him and grant him peace, mentioned Safiyya bint Huyy and
he was told that she had started her period. The Messenger of Allah,
may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Perhaps she will delay
us." They said, "Messenger of Allah, she has done tawaf," and the
Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said,
"Then she will not delay us."
Malik said that Hisham said
that Urwa said that A'isha said, "We have publicized that, so why do
people make their women stay on to their inconvenience? If it were as
they say, more than six thousand menstruating women would still be in
Mina in the morning, all of them having already done the tawaf al-
ifada.' "
Muwatta Malik Book 20, Hadith 240
" I came to Al-Madinah and entered upon Aishah, may Allah (SWT) be pleased with her. She said: 'Who are you?' I said: 'I am Sa'd bin Hisham bin 'Amir.' She said: 'May Allah have mercy on your father.' I said: 'Tell me about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).' She said: 'The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) did such and such.' I said: 'Yes indeed.' She said: 'The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to pray Isha' at night, then he would go to his bed and sleep. In the middle of the night, he would get up to relieve himself and go to his water for purification and perform wudu. Then he went into the Masjid and prayed eight rak'ahs. I think he made the recitation, bowing and prostration equal in length. Then he prayed one rak'ah of witr, then he prayed two rak'ahs sitting down. Then he lay down on his side. Sometimes Bilal would come and tell him that it was time to pray before he napped, and sometimes he napped. And sometimes I was not sure if he had napped or not before he told him that it was time to pray. This is how the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to pray until he grew older and gained weight"- and she mentioned whatever Allah (SWT) willed about his gaining weight. She said: "And the Prophet (ﷺ) used to lead the people in praying witr, then he would go to his bed. In the middle of the night, he would get up and go to water for purification, and to relieve himself, then he would perform wudu. Then he would go into the masjid and pray six rak'ahs, and I think he made the recitation, bowing, and prostration equal in length. Then he prayed one rak'ah of witr, then he prayed two rak'ahs sitting down. Then he lay down on his side. Sometimes Bilal would come and tell him that it was time to pray before he napped, and sometimes he napped. And sometimes I was not sure if he had napped or not before he told him that it was time to pray." She said: "And this is how the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) continued to pray."
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 20, Hadith 54
"I was a man who had a lot of desire for women, and I do not think there was any man who had as great a share of that as me. When Ramadan began, I declared Zihar upon my wife (to last) until Ramadan ended. While she was talking to me one night, part of her body became uncovered. I jumped on her and had intercourse with her. The next morning I went to my people and told them, and said to them: 'Ask the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) for me.' They said: 'We will not do that, lest Allah reveal Quran concerning us or the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) says, something about us, and it will be a lasting source of disgrace for us. Rather we will leave you to deal with it yourself. Go yourself and tell the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about your problem.' So I went out and when I came to him, I told him what happened. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Did you really do that?' I said: 'I really did that, and here I am, O Messenger of Allah. (ﷺ) I will bear Allah’s ruling on me with patience.' He said: 'Free a slave.' I said: 'By the One Who sent you with the truth, I do not own anything but myself.' He said: 'Fast for two consecutive months.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the thing that happened to me was only because of fasting.' He said: 'Then give charity, or feed sixty poor persons.' I said: 'By the One Who sent you with the truttu we spent last night with no dinner.' He said: 'Then go to the collector of charity of Banu Zuraiq, and tell him to give you something, then feed sixty poor persons, and benefit from the rest.'"
Sunan Ibn Majah Book 10, Hadith 47
I heard Anas bin Malik saying, "On a Friday a person entered the main Mosque through the gate
facing the pulpit while Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was delivering the Khutba. The man stood in front of Allah's
Apostle and said, 'O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! The livestock are dying and the roads are cut off; so please pray
to Allah for rain.' " Anas added, "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) (p.b.u.h) raised both his hands and said, 'O Allah!
Bless us with rain! O Allah! Bless us with rain! O Allah! Bless us with rain!' " Anas added, "By Allah,
we could not see any trace of cloud in the sky and there was no building or a house between us and
(the mountains of) Sila." Anas added, "A heavy cloud like a shield appeared from behind it (i.e. Sila'
Mountain). When it came in the middle of the sky, it spread and then rained." Anas further said, "By
Allah! We could not see the sun for a week. Next Friday a person entered through the same gate and
at that time Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was delivering the Friday's Khutba. The man stood in front of him and
said, 'O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! The livestock are dying and the roads are cut off, please pray to Allah to
withhold rain.' " Anas added, "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) I raised both his hands and said, 'O Allah! Round about
us and not on us. O Allah! On the plateaus, on the mountains, on the hills, in the valleys and on the
places where trees grow.' So the rain stopped and we came out walking in the sun." Sharik asked Anas
whether it was the same person who had asked for the rain (the last Friday). Anas replied that he did
not know.
