"I was very keen to ask 'Umar bin Al-Khattab about the two wives of the Messenger of Allah to whom Allah said: If you two turn in repentance to Allah, (it will be better for you), your hearts are indeed so inclined." And he quoted the Hadith. He said concerning it:' "The from his wives for twenty-nine days because of that, when Hafsah had made her disclosure to Aishah. He had said: 'I will not enter upon them for a month,' because he was so upset with them when Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, informed him of what they had said. When twenty-nine days had passed, he entered upon 'Aishah, so he started with her. Aishah, said to him: 'O Messenger of Allah, you swore not to enter upon us for a month, and now twenty-nine days have passed; we have been counting them.' The Messenger of Allah said; 'The month is twenty-nine days."'
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 22, Hadith 43
"Barirah came to me and said: 'O 'Sishah, I have drawn up a contract of manumission with my master, (to buy my freedom) in return for nine Uwqiyah, one Uwqiyah to be paid each year; help me,' she had not yet paid anything toward her contract of manumission.' 'Aishah, who liked her and wanted to help her, said: 'Go back to your masters and if they agree to let me pay the whole sum and that your loyalty will be to me, I will do it.' So Barirah went to her masters and suggested that to them, but they refused and said: 'if she wants to seek reward (with Allah) by freeing you, let her do so, but (you loyalty) will be to us, 'Aishah told the Messenger of Allah about that and he said: 'Do not let that stop you. Buy her and set her free, and loyalty belongs to the one who sets the slave free.; so she did that, then the Messenger of Allah stood up before the people, praised and glorified Allah, then said: 'What is the matter with people who stipulate conditions that are not in the Book of Allah? Whoever stipulates conditions that are not in even if there are a hundred conditions? The decree of Allah takes priority, and the conditions of Allah binding. And loyalty belongs to the one who sets the slaves free.'
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 44, Hadith 208
(the wife of the Prophet) `Utba bin Abi Waqqas said to his brother Sa`d bin Abi Waqqas, "The son of
the slave girl of Zam`a is from me, so take him into your custody." So in the year of Conquest of
Mecca, Sa`d took him and said. (This is) my brother's son whom my brother has asked me to take into
my custody." `Abd bin Zam`a got up before him and said, (He is) my brother and the son of the slave
girl of my father, and was born on my father's bed." So they both submitted their case before Allah's
Apostle. Sa`d said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! This boy is the son of my brother and he entrusted him to me."
`Abd bin Zam`a said, "This boy is my brother and the son of the slave girl of my father, and was born
on the bed of my father." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "The boy is for you, O `Abd bin Zam`a!" Then Allah's
Apostle further said, "The child is for the owner of the bed, and the stone is for the adulterer," He then
said to Sauda bint Zam`a, "Veil (screen) yourself before him," when he saw the child's resemblance to
`Utba. The boy did not see her again till he met Allah.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 93, Hadith 45
Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Ata ibn Yazid
al-Laythi that Ubaydullah ibn Adi ibnal-Khiyar said, "Once when the
Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was
sitting with some people, a man came to him and spoke secretly to him.
Nobody knew what he had said until the Messenger of Allah, may Allah
bless him and grant him peace, disclosed that he had asked for
permission to kill one of the hypocrites. When he disclosed this, the
Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said,
'Doesn't he testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad
is the Messenger of Allah?' The man replied, 'Of course, but he
hasn't really done so.' He said, 'Doesn't he do the prayer?' and the
man replied, 'Of course, but he doesn't really do the prayer.' He
said, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, 'Those are the ones
whom Allah has forbidden me (to kill).' "
Muwatta Malik Book 9, Hadith 92
When the Prophet (ﷺ) alighted at Marr az-Zahran, al-Abbas said: I thought, I swear by Allah, if the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) enters Mecca with the army by force before the Quraysh come to him and seek protection from him, it will be their total ruin. So I rode on the mule of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and thought, Perhaps I may find a man coming for his needs who will to the people of Mecca and inform them of the position of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), so that they may come to him and seek protection from him. While I was on my way, I heard AbuSufyan and Budayl ibn Warqa' speaking.
I said: O AbuHanzalah! He recognized my voice and said: AbulFadl? I replied: Yes. He said: who is with you, may my parents be a sacrifice for you? I said: Here are the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and his people (with him).
He asked: Which is the way out? He said: He rode behind me, and his companion returned. When the morning came, I brought him to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and he embraced Islam.
I said: Messenger of Allah, AbuSufyan is a man who likes this pride, do something for him. He said: Yes, he who enters the house of AbuSufyan is safe; he who closes the door upon him is safe; and he who enters the mosque is safe. The people scattered to their houses and in the mosque.
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 20, Hadith 95
Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi that Abdullah ibn Umar
said that statements like "I cut myself off from you",or"You are
abandoned", were considered as three pronouncements of divorce.
Malik said that any strong statements such as these or others were
considered as three pronouncements of divorce for a woman whose
marriage had been consummated. In the case of a woman whose marriage
had not been consummated, the man was asked to make an oath on his
deen, as to whether he had intended one or three pronouncements of
divorce. If he had intended one pronouncement, he was asked to make an
oath by Allah to confirm it, and he became a suitor among other
suitors, because a woman whose marriage had been consummated, required
three pronouncements of divorce to make her inaccessible for the
husband, whilst only one pronouncement was needed to make a woman
whose marriage had not been consummated inaccessible.
Malik
added, "That is the best of what I have heard about the matter."
Muwatta Malik Book 29, Hadith 7
He came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and stood by his side, and he said: "Allahu Akbar Dhul-malakut wal-jabarut wal-kibriya' wal 'azamah (Allah is Most Great, the One Who has all sovereignty, power, magnificence, and might.)" Then he recited Al-Baqarah, then he bowed, and his bowing lasted almost as long as his standing, and he said when bowing: 'Subahana Rabbial-'azim, Subhana Rabbial-'azim (Glory be to my Lord Almighty, Glory be to my Lord Almighty)." When he raised his head he said: "Li Rabbial-hamd, Li Rabbial-hamd (To my Lord be praise, to my Lord be praise)." And when he prostrated he said: "Subahana Rabbial-A'la, Subahna Rabbial-A'la (Glory be to my Lord Most High, glory be to my Lord Most High)." And between the two prostrations he would say: "Rabbighfirli, Rabbighfirli (Lord forgive me, Lord forgive me)."
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 12, Hadith 117
Send with us some men who may teach us the Qur'an and the Sunnah. Accordingjy, he sent seventy men from the Ansar. They were called the Reciters and among them was my maternal uncle. Haram. They used to recite the Qur'an, discuss and ponder over its meaning at night. In the day they brought water and poured it (in pitchers) in the mosque, collected wood and sold it, and with the sale proceeds bought food for the people of the Suffa and the needy. The Prophet (ﷺ) sent the Reciters with these people, but these (treacherous people) fell upon them and killed thern before they reached their destination (While dying), they said: O Allah, convey from us the news to our Prophet that we have met Thee (in a way) that we are pleased with Thee and Thou art pleased with us. (The narrator said): A man attacked Haram (maternal uncle of Anas) ) from behind and smote him with a spear which pierced him. (While dying), Haram said: By the Lord of the Ka'ba, I have met with success. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to his Companions: Your brethren have been slain grid they were saying: O Allah, convey from us to our Prophet the news that we have met Thee in a way that we are pleased with Thee and Thou art pleased with us.
Sahih Muslim Book 33, Hadith 212
that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "I am the chief of the children of Adam on the Day of Judgement and I am not boasting, and in my hand is the banner of praise and I am not boasting, and there has been no Prophet since Adam or other than him, except that he is under my banner. And I am the first for whom the earth will split open, and I am not boasting." He said: "The people will be frightened by three frights. So they will come to Adam saying: 'You are our father Adam, so intercede for us with your Lord.' So he says: 'I committed a sin for which I was expelled to the earth, so go to Nuh.' So they will come to Nuh and he will say: 'I supplicated against the people of the earth, so they were destroyed. So go to Ibrahim.' So they will go to Ibrahim, and he says: 'I lied three times.'" Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "He did not lie except defending Allah's religion." "So go to Musa.' So they will come to Musa, and he will say: 'I took a life. So go to 'Eisa. So they go to 'Eisa and he says: 'I was worshiped besides Allah. So go to Muhammad (ﷺ).'" He said: "So they will come to me, and I will go to them." (One of the narrators) Ibn Ju'dan said: "Anas said: 'It is as if I am looking at the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and he is saying: "So I will take hold of a ring of a gate of Paradise to rattle it, and it will be said: 'Who is there?' It will be said: 'Muhammad.' They will open it for me, and welcome me saying, 'Welcome.' I will fall prostrate and Allah will inspire me with statements of gratitude and praise and it will be said to me: 'Raise your head, ask and you shall be given, intercede, and your intercession shall be accepted, speak, and your saying shall be heard.' And that is Al-Maqam Al-Mahmud about which Allah said: It may be that your Lord will raise you to Maqaman-Mahmud (17:79)." Sufyan said: "None of it is from Anas except this sentence: 'I will take hold of a ring of a gate of Paradise to rattle it.'"
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 47, Hadith 200
Once `Umar bin Al-Khattab said, said, "Who amongst you remembers the statement of Allah's
Apostle regarding the afflictions?" Hudhaifa replied, "I remember what he said exactly." `Umar said.
"Tell (us), you are really a daring man!'' Hudhaifa said, "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, 'A man's afflictions (i.e.
wrong deeds) concerning his relation to his family, his property and his neighbors are expiated by his
prayers, giving in charity and enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil.' " `Umar said, "I
don't mean these afflictions but the afflictions that will be heaving up and down like waves of the
sea." Hudhaifa replied, "O chief of the believers! You need not fear those (afflictions) as there is a
closed door between you and them." `Umar asked, "Will that door be opened or broken?" Hudhaifa
replied, "No, it will be broken." `Umar said, "Then it is very likely that the door will not be closed
again." Later on the people asked Hudhaifa, "Did `Umar know what that door meant?" He said. "Yes,
`Umar knew it as everyone knows that there will be night before the tomorrow morning. I narrated to
`Umar an authentic narration, not lies." We dared not ask Hudhaifa; therefore we requested Masruq
who asked him, "What does the door stand for?" He said, "`Umar."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 61, Hadith 95
The Prophet (ﷺ) mentioned the Masih Ad-Dajjal in front of the people saying, Allah is not one-eyed
while Masih Ad-Dajjal is blind in the right eye and his eye looks like a bulging out grape. While
sleeping near the Ka`ba last night, I saw in my dream a man of brown color the best one can see
amongst brown color and his hair was long that it fell between his shoulders. His hair was lank and
water was dribbling from his head and he was placing his hands on the shoulders of two men while
circumambulating the Ka`ba. I asked, 'Who is this?' They replied, 'This is Jesus, son of Mary.' Behind
him I saw a man who had very curly hair and was blind in the right eye, resembling Ibn Qatan (i.e. an
infidel) in appearance. He was placing his hands on the shoulders of a person while performing Tawaf
around the Ka`ba. I asked, 'Who is this? 'They replied, 'The Masih, Ad-Dajjal.' "
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 60, Hadith 110
We faced the pagans on that day (of the battle of Uhud) and the Prophet (ﷺ) placed a batch of archers (at a
special place) and appointed `Abdullah (bin Jubair) as their commander and said, "Do not leave this
place; if you should see us conquering the enemy, do not leave this place, and if you should see
them conquering us, do not (come to) help us," So, when we faced the enemy, they took to their heels
till I saw their women running towards the mountain, lifting up their clothes from their legs, revealing
their leg-bangles. The Muslims started saying, "The booty, the booty!" `Abdullah bin Jubair said,
"The Prophet (ﷺ) had taken a firm promise from me not to leave this place." But his companions refused
(to stay). So when they refused (to stay there), (Allah) confused them so that they could not know
where to go, and they suffered seventy casualties. Abu Sufyan ascended a high place and said, "Is
Muhammad present amongst the people?"
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Do not answer him." Abu Sufyan said, "Is the son of Abu Quhafa present among
the people?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Do not answer him." `Abu Sufyan said, "Is the son of Al-Khattab
amongst the people?" He then added, "All these people have been killed, for, were they alive, they
would have replied." On that, `Umar could not help saying, "You are a liar, O enemy of Allah! Allah
has kept what will make you unhappy." Abu Sufyan said, "Superior may be Hubal!" On that the
Prophet said (to his companions), "Reply to him." They asked, "What may we say?" He said, "Say:
Allah is More Elevated and More Majestic!" Abu Sufyan said, "We have (the idol) Al-`Uzza, whereas
you have no `Uzza!" The Prophet (ﷺ) said (to his companions), "Reply to him." They said, "What may we
say?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Say: Allah is our Helper and you have no helper." Abu Sufyan said, "(This)
day compensates for our loss at Badr and (in) the battle (the victory) is always undecided and shared
in turns by the belligerents. You will see some of your dead men mutilated, but neither did I urge this
action, nor am I sorry for it." Narrated Jabir: Some people took wine in the morning of the day of
Uhud and were then killed as martyrs.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 64, Hadith 90
When we conquered Khaibar, we gained neither gold nor silver as booty, but we gained cows, camels,
goods and gardens. Then we departed with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) to the valley of Al-Qira, and at that time
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had a slave called Mid`am who had been presented to him by one of Banu Ad-Dibbab.
While the slave was dismounting the saddle of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) an arrow the thrower of which was
unknown, came and hit him. The people said, "Congratulations to him for the martyrdom." Allah's
Apostle said, "No, by Him in Whose Hand my soul is, the sheet (of cloth) which he had taken
(illegally) on the day of Khaibar from the booty before the distribution of the booty, has become a
flame of Fire burning him." On hearing that, a man brought one or two leather straps of shoes to the
Prophet and said, "These are things I took (illegally)." On that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "This is a strap, or
these are two straps of Fire."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 64, Hadith 272
I spent a night with my maternal aunt (sister of my mother) Maimuna. The Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) got up during the night and relieved himself, then washed his face and hands and went to sleep. He then got up again, and came to the water skin and loosened its straps, then performed good ablution between the two extremes. He then stood up and observed prayer. I also stood up and stretched my body fearing that he might be under the impression that I was there to find out (what he did at night). So I also performed ablution and stood up to pray, but I stood on his left. He took hold of my hand and made me go around to his right side. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) completed thirteen rak`ahs of his night prayer. He then lay down and slept and snored (and it was his habit to snore while asleep). Then Bilal came and he informed him about the prayer. He (the Holy Prophet) then stood up for prayer and did not perform ablution, and his supplication included these words: "O Allah, place light in my heart, light in my sight, light in my hearing, light on my right hand, light on my left hand, light above me, light below me, light in front of me, light behind me, and enhance light for me."
Kuraib (the narrator) said: There are seven (words more) which are in my heart (but I cannot recall them) and I met some of the descendants of Al-`Abbas and they narrated these words to me and mentioned in them: (Light) in my sinew, in my flesh, in my blood, in my hair, in my skin, and made a mention of two more things.
Sahih Muslim Book 6, Hadith 216
Yahya said that Malik spoke about an investor who made a qirad
loan to a man, who used it and made a profit. Then the man bought with
all the profit a slave-girl and he had intercourse with her and she
became pregnant by him, and so the capital decreased. Malik said, "If
he has money, the price of the slave-girl is taken from his property,
and the capital is restored by it. If there is something left over
after the money is paid, it is divided between them according to the
first qirad. If he cannot pay it, the slave-girl is sold so that the
capital is restored from her price."
Malik spoke about an
investor who made a qirad loan to a man, and the agent spent more than
the amount of the qirad loan when buying goods with it and paid the
increase from his own money. Malik said, "The investor has a choice if
the goods are sold for a profit or loss or if they are not sold. If he
wishes to take the goods, he takes them and pays the agent back what
he put in for them. If the agent refuses, the investor is a partner
for his share of the price in increase and decrease according to what
the agent paid extra for them from himself."
Malik spoke
about an agent who took qirad money from a man and then gave it to
another man to use as a qirad without the consent of the investor. He
said, "The agent is responsible for the property. If it is decreased,
he is responsible for the loss. If there is profit, the investor has
his stipulation of the profit, and then the agent has his stipulation
of what remains of the money."
Malik spoke about an agent who
exceeded and borrowed some of what he had of qirad in money and he
bought goods for himself with it. Malik said, "If he has a profit, the
profit is divided according to the condition between them in the
qirad. If he has a loss, he is responsible for the loss."
Malik said about an investor who paid qirad money to a man, and the
agent borrowed some of the cash and bought goods for himself with it,
"The investor of the capital has a choice. If he wishes, he shares
with him in the goods according to the qirad, and if he wishes, he
frees himself of them, and takes all of the principal back from the
agent. That is what is done with some one who oversteps."
Muwatta Malik Book 32, Hadith 9
"Whoever would like to meet Allah tomorrow as a Muslim, let him regularly attend these five (daily) prayers whenever the call for them is given (that in the mosques), for Allah prescribed for
His Prophet the ways of guidance, and they (the prayers) are part of those ways of guidance. I do not think that there is anyone among you who does not have a place where he prays in his house. But if you were to pray in your houses and forsake the Masjids, you would be forsaking the Sunnah of your Prophet, and if you were to forsake the Sunnah of your
Prophet you would go astray. There is no Muslim slave who performs Wudu and does it well, then walks to the prayer, but Allah will record one Hasanah (good
deed) for each step he takes, or raise' him one level by it or erase one sin from him. I remember how we used to take short steps, and I remember (a time) when no one stayed behind from the prayer except
a hypocrite whose hypocrisy was well known. And I have seen a man coming Supported by two others until he would be made to stand in the row."
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 10, Hadith 73
