During the lifetime of the Prophet (ﷺ) some people said, : O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Shall we see our Lord on the
Day of Resurrection?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Yes; do you have any difficulty in seeing the sun at midday
when it is bright and there is no cloud in the sky?" They replied, "No." He said, "Do you have any
difficulty in seeing the moon on a full moon night when it is bright and there is no cloud in the sky?"
They replied, "No." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "(Similarly) you will have no difficulty in seeing Allah on the
Day of Resurrection as you have no difficulty in seeing either of them. On the Day of Resurrection, a
call-maker will announce, "Let every nation follow that which they used to worship."
Then none of those who used to worship anything other than Allah like idols and other deities but will
fall in Hell (Fire), till there will remain none but those who used to worship Allah, both those who
were obedient (i.e. good) and those who were disobedient (i.e. bad) and the remaining party of the
people of the Scripture. Then the Jews will be called upon and it will be said to them, 'Who do you use
to worship?' They will say, 'We used to worship Ezra, the son of Allah.' It will be said to them, 'You
are liars, for Allah has never taken anyone as a wife or a son. What do you want now?' They will say,
'O our Lord! We are thirsty, so give us something to drink.'
They will be directed and addressed thus, 'Will you drink,' whereupon they will be gathered unto Hell
(Fire) which will look like a mirage whose different sides will be destroying each other. Then they
will fall into the Fire. Afterwards the Christians will be called upon and it will be said to them, 'Who
do you use to worship?' They will say, 'We used to worship Jesus, the son of Allah.' It will be said to
them, 'You are liars, for Allah has never taken anyone as a wife or a son,' Then it will be said to them,
'What do you want?' They will say what the former people have said. Then, when there remain (in the
gathering) none but those who used to worship Allah (Alone, the real Lord of the Worlds) whether
they were obedient or disobedient. Then (Allah) the Lord of the worlds will come to them in a shape
nearest to the picture they had in their minds about Him. It will be said, 'What are you waiting for?'
Every nation have followed what they used to worship.' They will reply, 'We left the people in the
world when we were in great need of them and we did not take them as friends. Now we are waiting
for our Lord Whom we used to worship.' Allah will say, 'I am your Lord.' They will say twice or
thrice, 'We do not worship any besides Allah.' "
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 65, Hadith 103
Malik spoke about what was done among them in the case of a group
of people who bought goods, drapery or slaves, and a man heard about
it and said to one of the group, "I have heard the description and
situation of the drapery goods you bought from so-and-so. Shall I give
you such-and-such profit to take over your portion?" This person
agreed, and the man gave him the profit and became a partner in his
place. When he looked at the purchase, he saw that it was ugly and
found it too expensive.
Malik said, "It is obliged on him and
there is no choice in it for him if he bought it according to a list
of contents and the description was well-known."
Malik spoke
about a man who had drapery goods sent to him, and salesmen came to
him and he read to them his list of contents and said, "In each bag is
such-and-such a wrap from Basra and such-and-such a light wrap from
Sabir. Their size is such-and-such," and he named to them types of
drapery goods by their sort, and he said, "Buy them from me according
to this description." They bought the bags according to what he
described to them, and then they bought them and found them too
expensive and regretted it. Malik said, "The sale is binding on them,
if the goods agree with the list of contents on which he sold them."
Malik said, "This is the way of doing things which people
still use today. They permit the sale among them when the goods agree
with the list of contents and are not different from it. "
Muwatta Malik Book 31, Hadith 79
Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab that Umar ibn al-
Khattab told people to kill snakes in the Haram.
Malik said,
about the "wild dogs" which people were told to kill in the Haram,
that any animals that wounded, attacked, or terrorised men, such as
lions, leopards, Iynxes and wolves, were counted as"wild dogs."
However, someone who was in ihram should not kill beasts of prey that
did not attack (people), such as hyenas, foxes, cats and anything else
like them, and if he did then he had to pay a forfeit for it.
Similarly, someone in ihram should not kill any predatory birds except
the kinds that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace,
specified, namely crows and kites. If someone in ihram killed any
other kind of bird he had to pay a forfeit for it.
Muwatta Malik Book 20, Hadith 93
Uyaina bin Hisn bin Hudhaifa bin Badr came and stayed (at Medina) with his nephew Al-Hurr bin
Qais bin Hisn who was one of those whom `Umar used to keep near him, as the Qurra' (learned men
knowing Qur'an by heart) were the people of `Umar's meetings and his advisors whether they were old
or young. 'Uyaina said to his nephew, "O my nephew! Have you an approach to this chief so as to get
for me the permission to see him?" His nephew said, "I will get the permission for you to see him."
(Ibn `Abbas added: ) So he took the permission for 'Uyaina, and when the latter entered, he said, "O
the son of Al-Khattab! By Allah, you neither give us sufficient provision nor judge among us with
justice." On that `Umar became so furious that he intended to harm him. Al-Hurr, said, "O Chief of
the Believers!" Allah said to His Apostle 'Hold to forgiveness, command what is good (right), and
leave the foolish (i.e. do not punish them).' (7.199) and this person is among the foolish." By Allah,
`Umar did not overlook that Verse when Al-Hurr recited it before him, and `Umar said to observe (the
orders of) Allah's Book strictly." (See Hadith No. 166, Vol. 6)
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 96, Hadith 17
Ya'ish ibn Tikhfat al-Ghifari said: My father was one of the people in the Suffah.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Come with us to the house of Aisha. So we went and he said: Give us food, Aisha. She brought hashishah and we ate. He then said: Give us food, Aisha. She then brought haysah as small in quantity as a pigeon and we ate. He then said: Give us something to drink, Aisha. So she brought a bowl of milk, and we drank. Again he said: Give us something to drink, Aisha. She then brought a small cup and we drank. He then said: If you wish, you may spend the night (here), or if you wish, you may go to the mosque.
He said: While I was lying on my stomach because of pain in the lung, a man began to shake me with his foot and then said: This is a method of lying which Allah hates. I looked and saw that he was the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 43, Hadith 268
While I was walking with the Prophet (ﷺ) in the Harra of Medina, Uhud came in sight. The Prophet (ﷺ) said,
"O Abu Dhar!" I said, "Labbaik, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)!" He said, "I would not like to have gold equal to
this mountain of Uhud, unless nothing of it, not even a single Dinar of it remains with me for more
than three days, except something which I will keep for repaying debts. I would have spent all of it
(distributed it) amongst Allah's Slaves like this, and like this, and like this." The Prophet (ﷺ) pointed out
with his hand towards his right, his left and his back (while illustrating it). He proceeded with his walk
and said, "The rich are in fact the poor (little rewarded) on the Day of Resurrection except those who
spend their wealth like this, and like this, and like this, to their right, left and back, but such people are
few in number." Then he said to me, "Stay at your place and do not leave it till I come back." Then he
proceeded in the darkness of the night till he went out of sight, and then I heard a loud voice, and was
afraid that something might have happened to the Prophet (ﷺ) .1 intended to go to him, but I remembered
what he had said to me, i.e. 'Don't leave your place till I come back to you,' so I remained at my place
till he came back to me. I said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! I heard a voice and I was afraid." So I mentioned
the whole story to him. He said, "Did you hear it?" I replied, "Yes." He said, "It was Gabriel who
came to me and said, 'Whoever died without joining others in worship with Allah, will enter Paradise.'
I asked (Gabriel), 'Even if he had committed theft or committed illegal sexual intercourse? Gabriel
said, 'Yes, even if he had committed theft or committed illegal sexual intercourse."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 81, Hadith 33
Yahya related to me from Malik that Yahya ibn Said heard Sulayman
ibn Yasar mention that a face wound in which the bone was bared was
like a head wound in which the bone was bared, unless the face was
scarred by the wound. Then the blood-money is increased by one half of
the blood-money of the head wound in which the skin was bared so that
seventy five dinars are payable for it.
Malik said, "What is
done in our community is that the head wound with splinters has
fifteen camels." He explained, "The head wound with splinters is that
from which pieces of bone fly off and which does not reach the brain.
It can be in the head or the face."
Malik said, "The
generally agreed on way of doing things in our community, is that
there is no retaliation for a wound to the brain or a belly wound, and
Ibn Shihab has said, 'There is no retaliation for a wound to the
brain.' "
Malik explained, "The wound to the brain is what
pierces the bones to the brain. This type of wound only occurs in the
head. It is that which reaches the brain when the bones are pierced."
Malik said, "What is done in our community is that there is
no blood-money paid on any head wound less than one which lays bare
the skull. Blood-money is payable only for the head wound that bares
the bone and what is worse than that. That is because the Messenger of
Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, stopped at the head
wound which bared the bone in his letter to Amr ibn Hazm. He made it
five camels. The imams, past and present, have not made any blood-
money payable for injuries less than the head wound which bares the
bone."
Muwatta Malik Book 43, Hadith 17
Allah's Messenger, will we be able to see our Lord on the Day of Judgment? He said: Do you feel any difficulty in seeing the sun in the noon when there is no cloud over it? They said: No. He again said: Do you feel any difficulty in seeing the moon on the fourteenth night when there is no cloud over it? They said: No. Thereupon he said: By Allah Who is One in Whose Hand is my life. you will not face any difficulty in seeing your Lord but only so much as you feel in seeing one of them. Then Allah would sit in judgment upon the servant and would say: O, so and so, did I not honour you and make you the chief and provide you the spouse and subdue for you horses, camels, and afforded you an opportunity to rule over your subjects? He would say: Yes. And then it would be said: Did you not think that you would meet Us? And he would say: No. Thereupon He (Allah) would say: Well, We forget you as you forgot Us. Then the second person would be brought for judgment. (And Allah would) say: 0, so and so. did We not honour you and make you the chief and make you pair and subdue for you horses and camels and afford you an opportunity to rule over your subjects? He would say: Yes, my Lord. And He (the Lord) would say: Did you not think that you would be meeting Us? And he would say: No. And then He (Allah) would say: Well, I forget you today as you forgot Us. Then the third -one would be brought and He (Allah) would say to him as He said before. And he (the third person) would say: O, my Lord, I affirmed my faith in Thee and in Thy Book and in Thy Messenger and I observed prayer and fasts and gave charity, and he would speak in good terms like this as he would be able to do. And He (Allah) would say: Well, We will bring our witnesses to you. And the man would think in his mind who would bear witness upon him and then his mouth would be sealed and it would be said to his thighs, to his flesh and to his bones to speak and his thighs. flesh and bones would bear witness to his deeds and it would be done so that he should not be able to make any excuse for himself and he would be a hypocrite and Allah would be annoyed with him.
Sahih Muslim Book 55, Hadith 22
I was praying with the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ). A man in the company sneezed, and I said: May Allah have mercy on you! The people gave me disapproving looks, so I said: Woe is to me! What do you mean by looking at me? They began to strike their hand on their thighs; then I realised that they were urging me to be silent. When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) finished his prayer – for whom I would give my father and mother as ransom-he did not beat, scold or revile me, but said: No talk to people in lawful in this prayer, for it consists only in glorifying Allah, declaring His greatness, and reciting the Qur'an or words to that effect said by the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). I said: Messenger of Allah, we were only recently pagans, but Allah has brought Islam to us, and among us there are men who have recourse to soothsayers (kahins). He replied: Do not have recourse to them. I said: Among us are there are men who take omens. He replied: That is something which they find, but let it not turn them away (from what they intended to do). I said: among us there are men who draw lines. He replied: There was a prophet who drew lines; so if the line of anyone tallies with this line, that might come true. I said: A slave-girl of mine used to tend goats before (the mountain) Uhud and al-Jawaniyyah. Once when I reached her (suddenly) I found that a wolf had taken away a goat of them. I am a human being; I feel grieved as others do. But I gave her a good knocking. This was unbearable for the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). I asked: Should I set her free ? He replied: Bring her to me. So I brought her to him. He asked (her): Where is Allah ? She said: In the heaven. He said: Who am I ? She replied: You are the Messenger of Allah. He said: Set her free, for she is believer.
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 2, Hadith 541
"Shall I not tell you about the Prophet and I?" We said: "Yes." She said: "When it was my night when he" -meaning the Prophet- "was with me, he came in, placed his shoes by his feet, lay down his Rida' (upper garment), and spread the edge of his Izar (lower garment) on his bed. As soon as he thought that I had gone to sleep, he put his shoes on slowly, and picked up his Rida' slowly. Then he opened the door slowly, went out and shut it slowly. I put my garment over my head, covered myself and put on my Izar (lower garment), and I set out after him until he came to Al-Baqi', raised his hands three times and stood there for a long time. Then he left and I left, he hurried and I hurried, he ran and I ran, and I got there before him and entered (the house). I had only just laid down when he came in and said: 'O 'Aishah, why are you out of breath?' She said: 'No.' He said: 'Either you tell me or Allah, the All-Aware, All-Knowing, will tell me.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you;' and I told him the story. He said: 'You were the black shape I saw in front of me?' I said: 'Yes.'" She said: "He gave me a shove in the chest that hurt me and said: 'You thought that Allah and His Messenger would be unfair to you.' She said: 'Whatever people conceal, Allah knows it.' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Jibril came to me when you saw (me leave) but he did not enter upon you because you have taken off your garments. So he called me but he concealed himself from you, and I answered him, but I concealed it from you. I thought that you had gone to sleep and I did not want to wake you, and I was afraid that you would feel lonely. He told me to go to Al-Baqi' and pray for forgiveness for them.'" 'Asim reported it from 'Abdullah bin 'Amir, from 'Aishah, with a wording different from this.
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 36, Hadith 26
When `Abdullah (my father) died, he left behind children and debts. I asked the lenders to put down
some of his debt, but they refused, so I went to the Prophet (ﷺ) to intercede with them, yet they refused.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said (to me), "Classify your dates into their different kinds: 'Adha bin Zaid, Lean and
'Ajwa, each kind alone and call all the creditors and wait till I come to you." I did so and the Prophet (ﷺ)
came and sat beside the dates and started measuring to each his due till he paid them fully, and the
amount of dates remained as it was before, as if he had not touched them.
(On another occasion) I took part in one of Ghazawat among with the Prophet (ﷺ) and I was riding one of
our camels. The camel got tired and was lagging behind the others. The Prophet (ﷺ) hit it on its back. He
said, "Sell it to me, and you have the right to ride it till Medina.'' When we approached Medina, I took
the permission from the Prophet (ﷺ) to go to my house, saying, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! I have newly
married." The Prophet (ﷺ) asked, "Have you married a virgin or a matron (a widow or divorcee)?" I said,
"I have married a matron, as `Abdullah (my father) died and left behind daughters small in their ages,
so I married a matron who may teach them and bring them up with good manners." The Prophet (ﷺ) then
said (to me), "Go to your family." When I went there and told my maternal uncle about the selling of
the camel, he admonished me for it. On that I told him about its slowness and exhaustion and about
what the Prophet (ﷺ) had done to the camel and his hitting it. When the Prophet (ﷺ) arrived, I went to him
with the camel in the morning and he gave me its price, the camel itself, and my share from the war
booty as he gave the other people.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 43, Hadith 21
Messenger of Allah. Allah is not ashamed of truth what do you think, if a woman sees what a man sees in dream, should she take a bath or not? The prophet (ﷺ) replied: Yes, she should take a bath if she finds the liquid (vaginal secretion) ‘A’ishah said : Then I came upon her and said her : Woe to you! Does a woman see that (sexual dream)? In the meantime, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came upon me and said: May your right hand be covered with dust! How can there be the resemblance (i.e., between the child and the mother)?
Abu Dawud said: A similar version has been narrated by Zubaid, ‘Uqail, Yunus, cousin of Al-Zuhri, Ibn Abi-Wazir, on the authority of al-Zuhr, musan, al-Hajabi, like al-Zuhri, narrated on the authority of ‘Urwah from ‘A’ishah, but Hisham b. ‘Urwah narrated from ‘Urwah on the authority of Zainab daughter of Abu Salamah from Umm Salamah saying. Umm Sulaim came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 1, Hadith 237
I was sitting in a circle in the mosque of Medina and there was an old man, quite handsome. He was 'Abdullah b. Salim. He was telling good things to them (to the people sitting in that company). As he stood up (to depart) the people said: He who is desirous of looking at a person from amongst the people of Paradise should see him. I said: By Allah, I will follow him, and would try to know his residence. So I followed him and he walked on until he reached the outskirts of Medina. He then entered his house. I sought permission from him to get in, and he granted me the permission, saying: My nephew, what is the need (that has brought you here)? I said to him: As you stood up, I heard people say about you: He who is desirous of seeing a person from among the people of Paradise should look at him. So I became desirous of accompanying you. He ('Abdullah b. Salim) said: It is Allah Who knows best about the people of Paradise. I would, however, narrate to you as to why they said like it. (The story is) that while I was asleep (one night) there came to me a person (in the dream) who asked me to stand up. (So I stood up) and he caught hold of my hand and I walked along with him, and, lo, I found some paths on my left and I was about to set out upon them. Thereupon he said to me Do not set yourself on (them) for these are the paths of the leftists (denizens of Hell-fire). Then there were paths leading to the right side, whereupon he said: Set yourself on these paths. We came across a hill and he said to me: Climb up, and I attempted to climb up that I fell upon my buttocks. I made several attempts (but failed to succeed). He led until he came to a pillar (so high) that its upper end touched the sky and its base was in the earth. And there was a handhold at its upper end. He said to me Climb over it. I said: How can I climb upon it, as its upper end touches the sky? He cought hold of my hand and pushed me up and I found myself suspended with the handhold. He then struck the pillar and it fell down, but I remained attached to that handhold until it was morning (and the dream was thus over). I came to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) and narrated it to him. He said: So far as the paths which you saw on your left are concerned, these are paths of the leftists (denizens of Hell) and the paths which you saw on your right, these are the paths of the rightists (the dwellers of Paradise) and the mountain represents the destination of the martyrs which you would not be able to attain. The pillar implies the pillar of Islam. and so far as the handhold is concerned, it implies the handhold of Islam, and you would hold to it fastly until you would meet death.
Sahih Muslim Book 44, Hadith 213
