Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said from Abd ar-
Rahman ibn al-Qasim that Aslam, the mawla of Umar ibn al-Khattab
informed him that he had visited Abdullah ibn Ayyash al-Makhzumi. He
saw that he had some nabidh with him and he was at that moment on the
way to Makka. Aslam said to him, ''Umar ibn al-Khattab loves this
drink." Abdullah ibn Ayyash therefore carried a great drinking bowl
and brought it to Umar ibn al-Khattab and placed it before him. Umar
brought it near to him and then raised his head. Umar said, "This
drink is good," so he drank some of it and then passed it to a man on
his right. When Abdullah turned to go, Umar ibn al-Khattab called him
and asked, "Are you the person who says that Makka is better than
Madina?" Abdullah said, "I said that it was the Haram of Allah, and
His place of security, and His House was in it." Umar said, "I am not
saying anything about the House of Allah or His Haram." Then Umar
repeated "Are you the person who says that Makka is better than
Madina?" He replied, "I said that it was the Haram of Allah and His
place of security, and His House was in it." Umar said, "I am not
saying anything about the House of Allah and His Haram." Then Abdullah
left.
Muwatta Malik Book 45, Hadith 20
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and the pagans faced each other and started fighting. When Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) returned to
his camp and when the pagans returned to their camp, somebody talked about a man amongst the
companions of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) who would follow and kill with his sword any pagan going alone. He
said, "Nobody did his job (i.e. fighting) so properly today as that man." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Indeed,
he is amongst the people of the (Hell) Fire." A man amongst the people said, "I shall accompany him
(to watch what he does)" Thus he accompanied him, and wherever he stood, he would stand with him,
and wherever he ran, he would run with him.
Then the (brave) man got wounded seriously and he decided to bring about his death quickly. He
planted the blade of the sword in the ground directing its sharp end towards his chest between his two
breasts. Then he leaned on the sword and killed himself. The other man came to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and
said, "I testify that you are Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)." The Prophet (ﷺ) asked, "What has happened?" He replied,
"(It is about) the man whom you had described as one of the people of the (Hell) Fire. The people
were greatly surprised at what you said, and I said, 'I will find out his reality for you.' So, I came out
seeking him. He got severely wounded, and hastened to die by slanting the blade of his sword in the
ground directing its sharp end towards his chest between his two breasts. Then he eased on his sword
and killed himself." when Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "A man may seem to the people as if he were
practising the deeds of the people of Paradise while in fact he is from the people of the Hell) Fire,
another may seem to the people as if he were practicing the deeds of the people of Hell (Fire), while in
fact he is from the people of Paradise."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 56, Hadith 112
Sa`d was wounded on the day of Khandaq (i.e. Trench) when a man from Quraish, called Hibban bin
Al-`Araqa hit him (with an arrow). The man was Hibban bin Qais from (the tribe of) Bani Mais bin
'Amir bin Lu'ai who shot an arrow at Sa`d's medial arm vein (or main artery of the arm). The Prophet (ﷺ)
pitched a tent (for Sa`d) in the Mosque so that he might be near to the Prophet (ﷺ) to visit. When the
Prophet returned from the (battle) of Al-Khandaq (i.e. Trench) and laid down his arms and took a bath
Gabriel came to him while he (i.e. Gabriel) was shaking the dust off his head, and said, "You have laid
down the arms?" By Allah, I have not laid them down. Go out to them (to attack them)." The Prophet (ﷺ)
said, "Where?" Gabriel pointed towards Bani Quraiza. So Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) went to them (i.e. Banu
Quraiza) (i.e. besieged them). They then surrendered to the Prophet's judgment but he directed them to
Sa`d to give his verdict concerning them. Sa`d said, "I give my judgment that their warriors should be
killed, their women and children should be taken as captives, and their properties distributed."
Narrated Hisham: My father informed me that `Aisha said, "Sa`d said, "O Allah! You know that there
is nothing more beloved to me than to fight in Your Cause against those who disbelieved Your
Apostle and turned him out (of Mecca). O Allah! I think you have put to an end the fight between us
and them (i.e. Quraish infidels). And if there still remains any fight with the Quraish (infidels), then
keep me alive till I fight against them for Your Sake. But if you have brought the war to an end, then
let this wound burst and cause my death thereby.' So blood gushed from the wound. There was a tent
in the Mosque belonging to Banu Ghifar who were surprised by the blood flowing towards them .
They said, 'O people of the tent! What is this thing which is coming to us from your side?' Behold!
Blood was flowing profusely out of Sa`d's wound. Sa`d then died because of that."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 64, Hadith 166
“When you go to your bed, perform the Wudu’ as you would perform for Salat. Then lie on your right side, then say: ‘O Allah, I submit my face to You, and I entrust my affair to You, and I lay myself down relying upon You, hoping in You and fearing You. There is no refuge nor escape from You except to You. I believe in Your Book which You have revealed, and in Your Prophet whom You have sent (Allāhumma aslamtu wajhī ilaika wa fawwaḍtu amrī ilaika, wa alja’tu ẓahrī ilaika, raghbatan wa rahbatan ilaika, lā malja’a wa lā manjā minka illā ilaika, āmantu bikitābikalladhī anzalta wa bi-nabiyykalladhī arsalt).’ And if you die that night, you shall die upon the Fitrah” - Al-Bara’ said: I repeated it to retain it in memory, “So I said: ‘I believe in Your Messenger whom You have sent.’” He said: “So he (ﷺ) struck with his hand upon my chest, then said: ‘And in Your Prophet whom You have sent.’”
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 48, Hadith 205
While I was with my uncle, I heard `Abdullah bin Ubai bin Salul saying, "Do not spend on those who
are with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), that they may disperse and go away (from him). And if we return to Medina,
surely, the more honorable will expel therefrom the meaner. "I mentioned that to my uncle who, in
turn, mentioned it to the Prophet. The Prophet (ﷺ) called me and I told him about that. Then he sent for
`Abdullah bin Ubai and his companions, and they swore that they did not say so. The Prophet (ﷺ)
disbelieved my statement and believed theirs. I was distressed as I have never been before, and I
remained in my house. My uncle said to me, "You just wanted the Prophet (ﷺ) to consider you a liar and
hate you." Then Allah revealed:--
'When the hypocrites come to you, they say: 'We bear witness that you are indeed the Apostle of
Allah." (63.1) So the Prophet (ﷺ) sent for me and recited it and said, "Allah has confirmed your
statement."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 65, Hadith 424
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) met Az-Zubair in a caravan of Muslim merchants who were returning from Sham. Az-Zubair provided Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and Abu Bakr with white clothes to wear. When the Muslims of Medina heard the news of the departure of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) from Mecca (towards Medina), they started going to the Harra every morning . They would wait for him till the heat of the noon forced them to return. One day, after waiting for a long while, they returned home, and when they went into their houses, a Jew climbed up the roof of one of the forts of his people to look for some thing, and he saw Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and his companions dressed in white clothes, emerging out of the desert mirage. The Jew could not help shouting at the top of his voice, "O you 'Arabs! Here is your great man whom you have been waiting for!" So all the Muslims rushed to their arms and received Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) on the summit of Harra. The Prophet (ﷺ) turned with them to the right and alighted at the quarters of Bani 'Amr bin 'Auf, and this was on Monday in the month of Rabi-ul-Awal. Abu Bakr stood up, receiving the people while Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) sat down and kept silent. Some of the Ansar who came and had not seen Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) before, began greeting Abu Bakr, but when the sunshine fell on Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and Abu Bakr came forward and shaded him with his sheet only then the people came to know Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) stayed with Bani 'Amr bin 'Auf for ten nights and established the mosque (mosque of Quba) which was founded on piety. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) prayed in it and then mounted his she-camel and proceeded on, accompanied by the people till his she-camel knelt down at (the place of) the Mosque of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) at Medina. Some Muslims used to pray there in those days, and that place was a yard for drying dates belonging to Suhail and Sahl, the orphan boys who were under the guardianship of 'Asad bin Zurara. When his she-camel knelt down, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "This place, Allah willing, will be our abiding place." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) then called the two boys and told them to suggest a price for that yard so that he might take it as a mosque. The two boys said, "No, but we will give it as a gift, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)!" Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) then built a mosque there. The Prophet (ﷺ) himself started carrying unburnt bricks for its building and while doing so, he was saying "This load is better than the load of Khaibar, for it is more pious in the Sight of Allah and purer and better rewardable." He was also saying, "O Allah! The actual reward is the reward in the Hereafter, so bestow Your Mercy on the Ansar and the Emigrants." Thus the Prophet (ﷺ) recited (by way of proverb) the poem of some Muslim poet whose name is unknown to me.
(Ibn Shibab said, "In the Hadiths it does not occur that Allah's Apostle
recited a complete poetic verse other than this one.")
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 63, Hadith 131
Malik related to me that he had heard that Abdullah ibn Masud
used to relate that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and
grant him peace, said, "When two parties dispute about a business
transaction, the seller's word is taken, or they make an agreement
among themselves.
Malik spoke about someone who sold goods to
a man, and said at the contracting of the sale, 'I will sell to you
provided I consult so-and-so. If he is satisfied, the sale is
permitted. If he dislikes it, there is no sale between us.' They made
the transaction on that basis. Then the buyer regretted before the
seller consulted the person.
Malik said, "That sale is
binding on them according to what they described. The buyer has no
right of withdrawal, and it is binding on him, if the person whom the
seller stipulated to him, permits it."
Malik said, "The way
of doing things among us about a man who buys goods from another and
they differ about the price, and the seller says, 'I sold them to you
for ten dinars,' and the buyer says, 'I bought them from you for five
dinars,' is that it is said to the seller, 'If you like, give them to
the buyer for what he said. If you like, swear by Allah that you only
sold your goods for what you said.' If he swears it is said to the
buyer, 'Either you take the goods for what the seller said, or you
swear by Allah that you bought them only for what you said.' If he
swears, he is free to return the goods. That is when each of them
testifies against the other."
Muwatta Malik Book 31, Hadith 81
From Maimunah that a mouse fell in some cooking fat and died. So the Prophet (ﷺ) was asked about that and he said: "Remove it (the mouse) and what was around it and then eat it (the fat)."
He said: There are something on this topic from Abu Hurairah.
This Hadith is Hasan Sahih. This Hadith has been related from Az-Zuhri, from 'Ubaidullah, from Ibn 'Abbas, saying: "The Prophet (ﷺ) as asked" and they did not mention Maimunah in it. The narration of Ibn 'Abbas from Maimunah is more correct. Ma'mar reported similar from Az-Zuhri, from Sa'eed bin Al-Musayyab, from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet (ﷺ). But this hadith is not preserved. He said: I heard Muhammad bin Isma'il saying: "The Hadith of Ma'mar from Az-Zuhri, from Sa'eed bin al-Musayyab, from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet (ﷺ)" - and he mentioned in it: 'That he was asked about it, so he said: "When it (the coking fat) is solid then remove it (the mouse) and what was around it. And when it is liquid then do not use it.'" This is a mistake. Ma'mar made a mistake with it. And he said: What is correct is the narration of Az-Zuhri from 'Ubaidullah, from Ibn 'Abbas, and Maimunah.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 25, Hadith 12
"While the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was sitting with us around him, a man came in, turned towards the Qiblah and prayed. When he had finished his prayer, he came and greeted the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and the people with Salam. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to him: 'And also to you. Go and pray, for you have not prayed.' So he went and prayed, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) started watching him, and he (the man) did not know what was wrong with it. When he had finished the prayer, he came and greeted the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and the people with salam. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to him: 'And also to you. Go and pray, for you have not prayed.' He repeated it two or three times, then the man said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what is wrong with my prayer?' The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'The prayer of any of you is not complete unless he performs wudu properly as enjoined by Allah, the Mighty and Sublime. So he should wash his face, his arms up to the elbows, and wipe his head, and (wash) his feet up to the ankles. Then he should magnify Allah (SWT) and praise Him and glorify Him.'" - (One of the narrators) Hammam said: "I heard him say: 'He should praise Allah and glorify Him and magnify Him." He said: "I heard both of them." -"He (the Prophet (ﷺ)) said: 'He should recite whatever is easy for him of the Quran that Allah has taught him and permitted him in it (the prayer). Then he should say the Takbir and bow until his joints settle and he is relaxed. Then he should say: 'Sami Allahu liman hamidah (Allah hears the one who praises Him)' and stand up straight until his backbone is straight (and at ease). Then he should say Takbir and prostrate until he has placed his face firmly on the ground." "I heard him say: his forehead, until his joints settle and he is relaxed. Then he should say the Takbir and sit up until his backbone is straight (and at ease). Then he should prostrate until he has placed his face firmly on the ground and he is relaxed. If he does not do that then he has not completed his prayer."
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 12, Hadith 108
"I was accompanied by Ibn Sa'eed- either performing Hajj or 'Umrah - the people departed, and he and I were left. When I was alone with him I trembled and felt frightened of him because of what the people were saying about him. When I halted I said to him: 'Put your belongings near that tree.'" "he saw a sheep, took out a cup, and went to milk, it. Then he came to me with some milk and said to me: 'Drink Abu Sa'eed!' But I loathed drinking anything from his hand because of what the people were saying about him. So I said to him: 'It is very hot today, and I would not like to drink milk.' So he said to me: 'O Abu Sa'eed, I think I should take a rope, tie it to the tree, then hang myself because of what the people are saying about me. You see those who may be unaware of some narrations, while you are not unaware of them. You people are the most knowledgeable among the people of the Ahadith of the Messenger of Allah, O people of the Ansar! Did the Messenger of Allah not say: "He is a disbeliever" while I am a Muslim? Did the Messenger of Allah not said: "He is sterile, having no children" while I have left my children behind in Al-Madinah? Did the Messenger of Allah not say: " where he is at this time in the land.' So I said: 'May the rest of your day be but grief.'"
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 33, Hadith 89
Once the Prophet (ﷺ) sat on a pulpit and we sat around him. Then he said, "The things I am afraid of most
for your sake (concerning what will befall you after me) is the pleasures and splendors of the world
and its beauties which will be disclosed to you." Somebody said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Can the good
bring forth evil?" The Prophet (ﷺ) remained silent for a while. It was said to that person, "What is wrong
with you? You are talking to the Prophet (p.b.u.h) while he is not talking to you." Then we noticed
that he was being inspired divinely. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) wiped off his sweat and said, "Where is the
questioner?" It seemed as if the Prophet (ﷺ) liked his question. Then he said, "Good never brings forth
evil. Indeed it is like what grows on the banks of a water-stream which either kill or make the animals
sick, except if an animal eats its fill the Khadira (a kind of vegetable) and then faces the sun, and then
defecates and urinates and grazes again. No doubt this wealth is sweet and green. Blessed is the
wealth of a Muslim from which he gives to the poor, the orphans and to needy travelers. (Or the
Prophet said something similar to it) No doubt, whoever takes it illegally will be like the one who eats
but is never satisfied, and his wealth will be a witness against him on the Day of Resurrection."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 24, Hadith 67
“The Messenger of
Allah
(ﷺ) performed the eclipse prayer. He stood for a long time,
then he
bowed for a long time, then he stood up for a long time, then
he
bowed for a long time, then he stood up, then he prostrated for a
long time, then he sat up, then he prostrated for a long time. He
stood for a long time, then he bowed for a long time, then he stood
up
for a long time, then he bowed for a long time, then he stood up,
then he
prostrated for a long time, then he sat up, then he
prostrated for a
long time. Then he finished and said: ‘Paradise
was brought close to
me, so that if I had dared, I could have brought
you some of its
fruits. And Hell was brought near to me, until I
said: “O Lord, am I
one of them?” Nafi’ said: “I think that
he said: ‘And I saw a woman
being scratched by a cat that belonged
to her. I said: “What is wrong
with this woman?” They said: “She
detained it until it died of hunger;
she did not feed it and she did
not let it loose to eat of the vermin
of the earth.”
