We served ourselves in the company of Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). We tended our camels by turn. One day I had my turn to tend the camels, and I drove them in the afternoon. I found the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) addressing the people. I heard him say: Anyone amongst you who performs ablution, and does it well, then he stands and offers two rak’ahs of prayer, concentrating on it with his heart and body, Paradise will be his lot by all means. I said: Ha-ha! How fine it is! A man in front of me said: The action (mentioned by the Prophet) earlier, O ‘Uqbah, is finer that this one. I looked at him and found him to be ‘Umar b. al-Khattab. I asked him: What is that, O Abu Hafs? He replied: He (the Prophet) had said before you came: If any one of you performs ablution, and does it well, and when he finishes the ablution, he utters the words : I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, He has no associate, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His Servant and His Messenger, all the eight doors of Paradise will be opened for him; he may enter (through) any of them.
Mu’awiyah said: Rabi’ah b. Yazid narrated this tradition to me from Abu Idris and the authority of ‘Uqbah b.’Amir.
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 1, Hadith 169
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), the truthful and truly-inspired, said, "Each one of you collected in the womb of his
mother for forty days, and then turns into a clot for an equal period (of forty days) and turns into a
piece of flesh for a similar period (of forty days) and then Allah sends an angel and orders him to
write four things, i.e., his provision, his age, and whether he will be of the wretched or the blessed (in
the Hereafter). Then the soul is breathed into him. And by Allah, a person among you (or a man) may
do deeds of the people of the Fire till there is only a cubit or an arm-breadth distance between him and
the Fire, but then that writing (which Allah has ordered the angel to write) precedes, and he does the
deeds of the people of Paradise and enters it; and a man may do the deeds of the people of Paradise till
there is only a cubit or two between him and Paradise, and then that writing precedes and he does the
deeds of the people of the Fire and enters it."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 82, Hadith 1
"A thief was brought to the Messenger of Allah and he said: 'Kill him.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, he only stole.' He said: 'Cut off (his hand).' So his hand was cut off. Then he was brought a second time and he said: 'Kill him.' They said; 'O Messenger of Allah, he only stole.' He said: 'Cut off (his foot).' So his foot was cut off. He was brought to him a third time and he said: 'Kill him.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, he only stole. He said: 'Cut off (his other hand).' Then he was brought to him a fourth time and he said: Kill him.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, he only stole.' He said: 'Cut off (his other foot).' He was brought to him a fifth time and he said: "So we took him to an animal pen and attacked him. He lay down on his back then waved his arms and legs (in the air), and the camels ran away. Then they attacked him a second time and he did the same thing, then they attacked him a third time, and we threw stones at him and killed him, then we threw him into a well and threw stones on top of him." Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 46, Hadith 108
Yahya said from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Urwa ibn az-Zubayr
that A'isha, the wife of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant
him peace, said, ''Utba ibn Abi Waqqas disclosed to his brother, Sad
ibn Abi Waqqas, that he was the father of the son of the slave-girl of
Zama, and made him promise to look after him (after his death). In the
year of the conquest, Sad took him and said, 'He is the son of my
brother. He covenanted with me about him.' Abd ibn Zama stood up and
said, 'He is my brother and the son of my father's slave-girl. He was
born on his bed.' They went to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless
him and grant him peace. Sad said, 'Messenger of Allah! He is the son
of my brother, he made a covenant with me about him.' Abd ibn Zama
said, 'He is my brother and the son of my father's slave-girl and was
born on my father's bed.' The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him
and grant him peace, said, 'He is yours, Abd ibn Zama.' Then the
Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, 'A
child belongs to the household (where he was born) and the adulterer
is stoned.' Then he told Sawda bint Zama, 'Veil yourself from him,'
since he saw in him a resemblance to Utba ibn Abi Waqqas." A'isha
added, "He did not see her until he met Allah, the Mighty, the
Majestic!"
Muwatta Malik Book 36, Hadith 30
when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ordered a bell to be made so that it might be struck to gather the people for prayer, a man carrying a bell in his hand appeared to me while I was asleep, and I said; servant of ‘abd Allah, will you sell the bell? He asked; what will you do with it? I replied; we shall use it to call the people to prayer. He said; should I not suggest you something better than that. I replied: certainly. Then he told me to say: Allah is most great, Allah is most great, Allah is most great, Allah is most great. I testify that there is no god but Allah, I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Come to pray, come to pray; come to salvation; come to salvation. Allah is most great, Allah is most great. I testify that there is no god but Allah. He then moved backward a few steps and said: when you utter the IQAMAH, you should say: Allah is most great, Allah is most great. I testify that there is no god but Allah, I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Come to prayer, come to salvation. The time for prayer has come, the time for prayer has come: Allah is most great, Allah is most great. There is no god but Allah. When the morning came, I came to the Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) and informed him of what I had seen in the dream. He said: it is a genuine vision, and he then should use it to call people to prayer, for he has a louder voice than you have. So I got up along with Bilal and began to teach it to him and he used it in making the call to prayer. ‘Umar b. al-khattab (Allah be pleased with him) heard it while he was in his house and came out trailing his cloak and said: Messenger of Allah. By him who has sent you with the truth, I have also seen the kind of thing as has been shown to him. The Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) said: To Allah be the praise.
Abu Dawud said; Al-Zuhri narrated this tradition in a similar way from Sa’id b. al-Musayyib on the authority of ‘Abd Allah b. Zaid. In this version Ibn Ishaq narrated from al-Zuhri: Allah is most great. Allah is most great, Allah is most great, Allah is most great. Ma;mar and yunus narrated from al-Zuhri; Allah is most great, Allah is most great. They did not report it twice again.
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 2, Hadith 109
Moses asked his Lord: Who amongst the inhabitants of Paradise is the lowest to rank? He (Allah) said: The person who would be admitted into Paradise last of all among those deserving of Paradise who are admitted to it. I would be said to him: Enter Paradise. He would say: O my Lord! how (should I enter) while the people have settled in their apartments and taken the shares (portions)? It would be said to him: Would you be pleased if there be for you like the kingdom of a king amongst the kings of the world? He would say: I am pleased my Lord. He (Allah) would say: For you is that, and like that, and like that, and like that, and that. He would say at the fifth (point): I am well pleased. My Lord. He (Allah) would say: It is for you and, ten times like it, and for you is what your self desires and your eye enjoys. He would say: I am well pleased, my Lord. He (Moses) said: (Which is) the highest of their (inhabitants of Paradise) ranks? He (Allah) said: They are those whom I choose. I establish their honour with My own hand and then set a seal over it (and they would be blessed with Bounties) which no eye has seen, no ear has heard and no human mind has perceived: and this is sub- stantiated by the Book of Allah, Exalted and Great:" So no soul knows what delight of the eye is hidden for them; a reward for what they did" (xxxii. 17).
Sahih Muslim Book 1, Hadith 371
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "The example of the person abiding by Allah's orders and limits (or the one who
abides by the limits and regulations prescribed by Allah) in comparison to the one who do wrong and
violate Allah's limits and orders is like the example of people drawing lots for seats in a boat. Some of
them got seats in the upper part while the others in the lower part ; those in the, lower part have to
pass by those in the upper one to get water, and that troubled the latter. One of them (i.e. the people in
the lower part) took an ax and started making a hole in the bottom of the boat. The people of the upper
part came and asked him, (saying), 'What is wrong with you?' He replied, "You have been troubled
much by my (coming up to you), and I have to get water.' Now if they prevent him from doing that
they will save him and themselves, but if they leave him (to do what he wants), they will destroy him
and themselves."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 52, Hadith 47
Yahya related to me from Malik from Said ibn Abi Said al-Maqburi
from his father that he had asked Abu Hurayra, "How do you pray over
the dead?" and Abu Hurayra replied, "By the Life of Allah, I will tell
you! I follow with the family and when the corpse is put down I say
'Allah is greater' and praise Allah and ask for blessings on His
Prophet. Then I say, 'O Allah, he is Your slave and the son of Your
male slave and Your female slave. He used to testify that there is no
god but You and that Muhammad is Your slave and Your Messenger, and
You know that best. O Allah, if he acted well, then increase for him
his good action, and if he acted wrongly, then overlook his wrong
actions. O Allah, do not deprive us of his reward, and do not try us
after him.'"
Allahumma inna huwa abduka wa'bnu abdika wa'bnu

Muwatta Malik Book 16, Hadith 18
"I accompanied the Prophet (ﷺ) on a journey. One day I was near him while we were moving so I said: 'O Messenger of Allah! Inform me about an action by which I will be admitted into Paradise, and which will keep me far from the Fire.' He said: 'You have asked me about something great, but it is easy for whomever Allah makes it easy: Worship Allah and do not associate any partners with Him, establish the Salat, give the Zakat, fast Ramadan and perform Hajj to the HOuse.' Then he said: 'Shall I not guide you to the doors of good? Fasting is a shield, and charity extinguishes sins like water extinguishes fire - and a man's praying in depths of the night.'" He said: "Then he recited: 'Their sides forsake their beds to call upon their Lord.' Until he reached: 'What they used to do.'
Then he said: 'Shall I not inform you about the head of the entire matter, and its pillar, and its hump?' I said: 'Of course O Messenger of Allah! He said: 'The head of the matter is Islam, and its pillar is the Salat, and its hump is Jihad.' Then he said: 'Shall I not inform you about what governs all of that?' I said: 'Of course O Messenger of Allah!'" He (ﷺ) said: "So he grabbed his tongue. He said 'Restrain this.' I said: 'O Prophet of Allah! Will we be taken to account for what we say?' He said: 'May your mother grieve your loss O Mu'adh! Are the people tossed into the Fire upon their faces, or upon their noses, except because of what their tongues have wrought'"
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 40, Hadith 11
"What was said about me had been said, and I myself was unaware of it, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) got up and addressed the people. He recited the Tashahhud and after praising and expressing gratitude to Allah, as He deserved, he said: 'To proceed: O people! Give me your opinion regarding those people who made a forged story against my wife. By Allah, I do not know anything bad about her at all. By Allah, they accused her of being with a man about whom I have never known anything bad, and he never entered my house unless I was present there, and whenever I went on a journey, he went with me.' Sa'd bin Mu'adh referring to Abu Bakr: 'to give their kinsmen, the poor, and those who left their homes for Allah's Cause.' - meaning Mistah - up to His saying: Do you not love that Allah should forgive you? And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful (24:22).' On that, Abu Bakr said: 'Yes, by Allah! O our Lord! We wish that You forgive us.' So he returned to what he had been doing."
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 47, Hadith 232
While Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was proceeding at night during one of his journeys and `Umar bin Al-Khattab
was traveling beside him, `Umar asked him about something but Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) did not reply. He
asked again, but he did not reply, and then he asked (for the third time) but he did not reply. On that,
`Umar bin Al-Khattab said to himself, "Thakilat Ummu `Umar (May `Umar's mother lose her son)! I
asked Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) three times but he did not reply." `Umar then said, "I made my camel run faster
and went ahead of the people, and I was afraid that some Qur'anic Verses might be revealed about me.
But before getting involved in any other matter. I heard somebody calling me. I said to myself, 'I fear
that some Qur'anic Verses have been revealed about me,' and so I went to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and greeted
him.
He (Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ) said, 'Tonight a Sura has been revealed to me, and it is dearer to me than that on
which the sun rises (i.e. the world)' Then he recited: "Verily, We have given you a manifest victory."
(48.1)
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 65, Hadith 354
“We asked ‘Ali
about the voluntary (prayer) of Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) during the
day. He said: ‘You will not be able.’ We said: ‘Inform us of
it, we will do what we can of it?’ So he said: ‘When he prayed
the Fajr he would delay praying any more. When the sun appeared over
there (west) – like it appears here, meaning in the direction of
the east, about the amount for the ‘Asr prayer from there, meaning
in the direction of the west, meaning before the Maghrib – he would
stand and perform two Rak’ah* then he would delay praying until the
sun appeared over there (west), meaning in the direction of the east,
about the amount of the Zuhr prayer from there, then he would stand
and perform four. And, four before the Zuhr when the sun passed the
zenith, and two Rak’ah after it, and, four before the ‘Asr,
separating between every two Rak’ah with Taslim** upon the angels
that are close (to Allah), the Prophets, and those who follow them
among the Muslims and the believers.’”
'Ali said: "That is sixteen Rak'ah of voluntary prayer which Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) performed during the day. And there are very few who offer them regularly."
Waki` said: “My father added: Habib bin Abu Thabit said: ‘O Abu Ishaq, this mosque filled with gold would not be dearer to me than this Hadith of yours.’”
* Meaning, when the sun was low above the eastern horizon. That is the time of the Duha.
** Meaning the Tashah-hud.
Sunan Ibn Majah Book 5, Hadith 359
My Ansari neighbor from Bani Umaiya bin Zaid who used to live at `Awali Al-Medina and used to
visit the Prophet (ﷺ) by turns. He used to go one day and I another day. When I went I used to bring the
news of that day regarding the Divine Inspiration and other things, and when he went, he used to do
the same for me. Once my Ansari friend, in his turn (on returning from the Prophet), knocked
violently at my door and asked if I was there." I became horrified and came out to him. He said,
"Today a great thing has happened." I then went to Hafsa and saw her weeping. I asked her, "Did
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) divorce you all?" She replied, "I do not know." Then, I entered upon the Prophet (ﷺ) and
said while standing, "Have you divorced your wives?" The Prophet (ﷺ) replied in the negative. On that I
said, "Allahu-Akbar (Allah is Greater)." (See Hadith No. 119, Vol. 3 for details)
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 3, Hadith 31
Yahya related to me from Malik thatYahya ibn Said used to say,
"Even if someone manages to pray before the time of the prayer has
passed, the time that has passed him by is more important, or better,
than his family and wealth."
Yahya said that Malik said, "If
the time for a prayer comes and a traveller delays a prayer through
neglect or forgetfulness until he reaches his family, he should do
that prayer in full if he arrives within the time. But if he arrives
when the time has past, he should do the travelling prayer. That way
he only repays what he owes."
Malik said, "This is what I
have found the people and men of knowledge doing in our community."
Malik explained that shafaq was the redness in the sky after the sun
had set, and said, "When the redness has gone then the isha prayer is
due and you have left the time of maghrib."
