Jabir said “We went out along with the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) raising our voices in talbiyah for Hakk alone(Ifrad) while A’ishah raised her voice in talbiyah for an ‘Umrah. When she reached Sarif, she menstruated. When we came to (Makkah) we circumambulated the Ka’bah and ran between al Safa’ and al Marwah. The Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) then commanded us that those who had not brought sacrificial animals withthem should put off their ihram (after ‘Umrah). We asked “Which acts are lawful(and which not)? He replied All acts are lawful (that are permissible usually). We had therefore intercourse with our wives, used perfumes, put on our clothes. There remained only four days to perform Hajj at ‘Arafah. We then raised our voice in talbiyah (wearing Ihram for Hajj) on the eighth of Dhu al Hijjah. The Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) entered upon A’ishah and found her weeping. He said What is the matter with you? My problem is that I have menstruated, while the people have put on their ihram but I have not done so, nor did I go round the House(the Ka’bah). Now the people are proceeding for Hajj. He said This is a thing destined by Allah to the daughters of Adam. Take a bath, then raise your voice in talbiyah for Hajj(i.e, wear ihram for Hajj). She took a abtah and performed all the rites of the Hajj(lit. she stayed at all those places where the pilgrims stay). When she was purified, she circumambulated the House (the Ka’bah), and ran between al Safa’ and al Marwah. He (the Prophet) said “Now you have performed both your Hajj and your ‘Umrah. She said Messenger of Allah, I have some misgiving in my mind that I did not go round the Ka’bah when I performed Hajj (in the beginning). He said ‘Abd al Rahman (her brother), take her and have her perform ‘Umrah from Al Tan’im. This happened on the night of Al Hasbah(i.e., the fourteenth of Dhu Al Hijjah).
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 11, Hadith 65
We were in the company of the Prophet (ﷺ) at a banquet and a cooked (mutton) forearm was set before
him, and he used to like it. He ate a morsel of it and said, "I will be the chief of all the people on the
Day of Resurrection. Do you know how Allah will gather all the first and the last (people) in one level
place where an observer will be able to see (all) of them and they will be able to hear the announcer,
and the sun will come near to them. Some People will say: Don't you see, in what condition you are
and the state to which you have reached? Why don't you look for a person who can intercede for you
with your Lord? Some people will say: Appeal to your father, Adam.' They will go to him and say: 'O
Adam! You are the father of all mankind, and Allah created you with His Own Hands, and ordered the
angels to prostrate for you, and made you live in Paradise. Will you not intercede for us with your
Lord? Don't you see in what (miserable) state we are, and to what condition we have reached?' On that
Adam will reply, 'My Lord is so angry as He has never been before and will never be in the future;
(besides), He forbade me (to eat from) the tree, but I disobeyed (Him), (I am worried about) myself!
Myself! Go to somebody else; go to Noah.' They will go to Noah and say; 'O Noah! You are the first
amongst the messengers of Allah to the people of the earth, and Allah named you a thankful slave.
Don't you see in what a (miserable) state we are and to what condition we have reached? Will you not
intercede for us with your Lord? Noah will reply: 'Today my Lord has become so angry as he had
never been before and will never be in the future Myself! Myself! Go to the Prophet (Muhammad).
The people will come to me, and I will prostrate myself underneath Allah's Throne. Then I will be
addressed: 'O Muhammad! Raise your head; intercede, for your intercession will be accepted, and ask
(for anything). for you will be given. "
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 60, Hadith 15
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "I know the person who will be the last to come out of the (Hell) Fire, and the last to
enter Paradise. He will be a man who will come out of the (Hell) Fire crawling, and Allah will say to
him, 'Go and enter Paradise.' He will go to it, but he will imagine that it had been filled, and then he
will return and say, 'O Lord, I have found it full.' Allah will say, 'Go and enter Paradise, and you will
have what equals the world and ten times as much (or, you will have as much as ten times the like of
the world).' On that, the man will say, 'Do you mock at me (or laugh at me) though You are the
King?" I saw Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) (while saying that) smiling that his premolar teeth became visible. It is
said that will be the lowest in degree amongst the people of Paradise.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 81, Hadith 159
"The Messenger of Allah stood up to give an admonition and he said: 'O people, you will be gathered to Allah naked."' (One of the narrators) Abu Dawud said: "Barefoot and uncircumcised." (The narrators) Waki and Wahb said: "Naked and uncircumcised: As We began the first creation, We shall repeat it.
The first one to be clothed on the Day of Resurrection will be Ibrahim, peace be upon him. Then some men from among my Ummah will be brought and will be taken toward the left. I will say: 'O Lord, my companions.' It will be said: 'You do not know what they innovated after you were gone,' and I shall say what the righteous slave said: 'And I was witness over them while I dwelt amongst them, but when You took me up, You were the Watcher over them, but when You took me up, You were the Watcher over them; and You are a Witness to all things. If You punish them, they are Your slaves, and if You forgive them, verily, You, only You, are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.' And it will be said: 'These people kept turning away since you left them.'"
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 21, Hadith 270
Yahya related. to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said that Amra
bint Abd ar-Rahman told him from Habiba bint Sahl al-Ansari that she
had been the wife of Thabit ibn Qays ibn Shammas. The Messenger of
Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, went out for the dawn
prayer, and found Habiba bint Sahl at his door in the darkness. The
Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to
her, "Who is this?" She said, "I am Habiba bint Sahl, Messenger of
Allah." He said, "What do you want?" She said, "That Thabit ibn Qays
and I separate." When her husband, Thabit ibn Qays came, the Messenger
of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to him, "This
is Habiba bint Sahl. She mentioned what Allah willed that she
mention." Habiba said, "Messenger of Allah, all that he has given me
is with me!" The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him
peace, said to Thabit ibn Qays, "Take it from her," and he took it
from her, and she stayed in the house of her family.
Muwatta Malik Book 29, Hadith 34
Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi that Abdullah ibn Umar
used to pray dhuhr, asr, maghrib, isha and subh at Mina. Then in the
morning, after the sun had risen, he would go to Arafa .
Malik said, "What we are all agreed upon here (in Madina) is that the
imam does not recite the Qur'an out loud in dhuhr on the day of Arafa,
and that he gives a khutba to the people on that day, and that the
prayer on the day of Arafa is really a dhuhr prayer, and even if it
coincides with a jumua it is still a dhuhr prayer, but one which has
been shortened because of travelling."
Malik said that the
imam of the pilgrims should not pray the jumua prayer if the day of
Arafa, the day of sacrifice or one of the three days after the day of
sacrifice, was a Friday.
Muwatta Malik Book 20, Hadith 207
Yahya related to me from Malik from a reliable source of his who
had heard Said ibn al-Musayyab say, ''Umar ibn al-Khattab refused to
let anyone inherit from the non-arabs except for one who was born
among the arabs."
Malik said, "If a pregnant woman comes from
the land of the enemy and gives birth in arab land so that he is her
(an arab) child, he inherits from her if she dies, and she inherits
from him if he dies, by the Book of Allah."
Malik said, "The
generally agreed on way of doing things among us and the sunna in
which there is no dispute, and what I saw the people of knowledge in
our city doing, is that a Muslim does not inherit from a kafir by
kinship, clientage (wala'), or maternal relationship, nor does he (the
Muslim) overshadow any (of the kafirs) from his inheritance.
Malik said, "Similarly, someone who forgoes his inheritance when he is
the chief heir does not overshadow anyone from his inheritance."
Muwatta Malik Book 27, Hadith 22
There would be no harm if you do not (proceed) for Hajj this year, for we fear that there would be fight among people which would cause obstruction between you and the House, whereupon he said: If there would be obstruction between me and that (Ka'ba), I would do as Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) did. I was with him (the Holy Prophet) when the infidels of Quraish caused obstructions between him (the Holy Prophet) and the House. I call you as my witness (to the fact) that I have made 'Umra essential for me. He proceeded until he came to Dhu'l-Hulaifa and pronounced Talbiya for Umra, and said: If the way Is clear forme, I would then complete my 'Umra but If there is some obstruction between me and that (the Ka'ba). I would then do what Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had done (at the occasion of Hudaibiya), and I was with him (the Holy Prophet). and then recited:" Verily in the Messenger of Allah, there is a model pattern for you" (xxxiii. 21). He then moved on until he came to the rear side of al-Baida' and said: There is one command for both of them automatically) (Hajj and Umra). If I am detained (in the performance) of 'Umra, I am ( automatically detained (in the performance) of Hajj (too). I call you as witness that Hajj along with 'Umra I had made essential for me. (I am performing Hajj and 'Umra as Qiran.) He then bought sacrificial animals at Qudaid and then circumambulated the House and ran between al-Safa' and al-Marwa once (covering both Hajj and Umra), and did not put off Ihram until on the Day of Sacrifice in the month of Dhu'l-Hijja.
Sahih Muslim Book 15, Hadith 198
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, (what is ascribed to him in the following Hadith):
Narrated Abu Salih As-Samman:
I saw Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri praying on a Friday, behind something which acted as a Sutra. A young
man from Bani Abi Mu'ait , wanted to pass in front of him, but Abu Sa`id repulsed him with a
push on his chest. Finding no alternative he again tried to pass but Abu Sa`id pushed him with a
greater force. The young man abused Abu Sa`id and went to Marwan and lodged a complaint against
Abu Sa`id and Abu Sa`id followed the young man to Marwan who asked him, "O Abu Sa`id! What
has happened between you and the son of your brother?" Abu Sa`id said to him, "I heard the Prophet (ﷺ)
saying, 'If anybody amongst you is praying behind something as a Sutra and somebody tries to pass in
front of him, then he should repulse him and if he refuses, he should use force against him for he is a
Shaitan (a Satan).' "
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 8, Hadith 156
“We were participating in a battle along with the Messenger of Allah, and there were some people from the Bedouins with us. So we all rushed toward some water and the Bedouins raced us to it. One of the Bedouins beat his companions to it and he (tried to obstruct) the pond, he placed rocks around it and he put a leather sheet over it until his companions came.” He said: “A man among the Ansar reached the Bedouin and he dropped the reigns of his camel to drink, but the Bedouin would not allow him. So he started removing the barriers around the water, but the Bedouin raised a stick beating the Ansari man on the head, and smashed it. He went to Abdullah bin Ubayy, the head of the hypocrite, to inform him – he was in fact one of his companions. So Abdullah bin Ubayy became enraged, the he said: ‘Do not spend anything on whoever is with Muhammad until they depart.’ Meaning the Bedouins. They were preparing food for the Messenger of Allah. So Abdullah said: ‘When they depart from Muhammad, then bring Muhammad some food, and let him and whoever is with him eat it.’ Then he said to his companions: ‘If we return to Al-Madinah, indeed the more honorable will expel therefrom the meaner.’” Zaid said: “And I was riding behind the Messenger of Allah, and I had heard Abdullah bin Ubayy, so I informed my uncle who went to tell the Messenger of Allah. He sent a message to him (Abdullah) but he took an oath and denied it.” He said: “So the Messenger of Allah accepted what he said and did not believe me. So my uncle came to me and said: ‘You only wanted the Messenger of Allah to hate you, and the Muslims to say that you lied.’” He said: “I suffered such worry as has not been suffered by anyone else.” He said: “(Later) while I was on the move with the Messenger of Allah on a journey, my mind was relieved of worry, since the Messenger of Allah came to me and rubbed my ear and smiled in my face. I would never be happier than with that as long as the world remained. Then Abu Bakr caught up to me, and said: ‘What did the Messenger of Allah say to you?’ I said: ‘He did not say anything to me, he only rubbed my ear and smiled in my face.’ He said: ‘Receive the good news!’ Then Umar caught up with me and I said the same to him as I had said to Abu Bakr. In the morning the Messenger of Allah recited Surat Al-Munafiqin.”
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 47, Hadith 365
I asked Ibn 'Abbas (about the verse relating to intentional homicide in Surat An-Nisa') He said: When the verse "Those who invoke not with Allah any other god, nor slay such life as Allah had made sacred, except for just cause" was revealed, the polytheists of Mecca said: We have killed the soul prohibited by Allah, invoked another god along with Allah for worship, and committed shameful deeds. So Allah revealed the verse "unless he repents, believes, and works righteous deeds, for Allah will change the evil of such persons into good." This is meant for them. As regards the verse "if a man kills a believer intentionally, his recompense is Hell" He said: If a man knows the command of Islam and intentionally kills a believer, his repentance wil not be accepted. I then mentioned it to Mujahid. He said: "Except the one who is ashamed (of his sin)."
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 37, Hadith 34
Abu Talha had the greatest wealth of date-palms amongst the Ansar in Medina, and he prized above
all his wealth (his garden) Bairuha', which was situated opposite the Mosque (of the Prophet (ﷺ) ). The
Prophet used to enter It and drink from its fresh water. When the following Divine Verse came:--
"By no means shall you attain piety until you spend of what you love," (3.92)
Abu Talha got up saying. "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Allah says, 'You will not attain piety until you spend of
what you love,' and I prize above al I my wealth, Bairuha' which I want to give in charity for Allah's
Sake, hoping for its reward from Allah. So you can use it as Allah directs you." On that the Prophet (ﷺ)
said, "Bravo! It is a profitable (or perishable) property. (Ibn Maslama is not sure as to which word is
right, i.e. profitable or perishable.) I have heard what you have said, and I recommend that you
distribute this amongst your relatives." On that Abu Talha said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! I will do (as you
have suggested)." So, Abu Talha distributed that garden amongst his relatives and cousins.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 55, Hadith 32
"I entered upon 'Abdullah bin 'Amr bin Al-'As when he was in a garden of his in At-Ta'if called Al-Waht. He was walking and holding hands with a young man of Quraish who was suspected of drinking Khamr. He said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah say: Whoever drinks Khamr once, his repentance will not be accepted for 40 days, then if he repents, Allah will accept his repentance. If he does it again, his repentance will not be accepted for 40 days, then if he repents, Allah will accept his repentance. If he does it again, his repentance will not be accepted for 40 days, then if he repents, Allah will accept his repentance. If he does it again (a fourth time), then it is a right upon Allah to make him drink from the mud of Khibal on the Day of Resurrection." This is the wording of 'Amr.
