“I asked
`Aishah: ‘With what did the Prophet (ﷺ) start his voluntary
prayers?’ She said: ‘He would say: “Allahumma Rabba Jibra’il

Mika’il wa Israfil, Fatiras-samawati wal-ard, `alimal-ghaybi
wash-

Mika’il and Israfil,
Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower
of the unseen and the
seen, You judge between Your slaves concerning
that wherein they
differ. Guide me to the disputed matters of truth
by Your Leave, for
You are the One Who guides to the straight Path).”
(One of the narrators) `Abdur-Rahman bin `Umar said: “Bear in mind the word Jibra’il with a Hamzah - this is how it was narrated from the Prophet (ﷺ).”
Sunan Ibn Majah Book 5, Hadith 555
Eleven women sat (at a place) and promised and contracted that they would not conceal anything of
the news of their husbands.
The first one said, "My husband is like the meat of a slim weak camel which is kept on the top of a
mountain which is neither easy to climb, nor is the meat fat, so that one might put up with the trouble
of fetching it."
The second one said, "I shall not relate my husband's news, for I fear that I may not be able to finish
his story, for if I describe him, I will mention all his defects and bad traits."
The third one said, "My husband, the "too-tall"! if I describe him (and he hears of that) he will
divorce me, and if I keep quiet, he will keep me hanging (neither divorcing me nor treating me as a
wife)."
The fourth one said, "My husband is (moderate in temper) like the night of Tihama: neither hot nor
cold; I am neither afraid of him, nor am I discontented with him."
The fifth one said, "My husband, when entering (the house) is a leopard (sleeps a lot), and when going
out, is a lion (boasts a lot).
He does not ask about whatever is in the house."
The sixth one said, "If my husband eats, he eats too much (leaving the dishes empty), and if he drinks
he leaves nothing; if he sleeps he sleeps he rolls himself (alone in our blankets); and he does not insert
his palm to inquire about my feelings."
The seventh one said, "My husband is a wrong-doer or weak and foolish. All the defects are present in
him. He may injure your head or your body or may do both."
The eighth one said, "My husband is soft to touch like a rabbit and smells like a Zarnab (a kind of
good smelling grass)."
The ninth one said, "My husband is a tall generous man wearing a long strap for carrying his sword.
His ashes are abundant (i.e. generous to his guests) and his house is near to the people (who would
easily consult him)."
The tenth one said, "My husband is Malik (possessor), and what is Malik? Malik is greater than
whatever I say about him. (He is beyond and above all praises which can come to my mind). Most of
his camels are kept at home (ready to be slaughtered for the guests) and only a few are taken to the
pastures. When the camels hear the sound of the lute (or the tambourine) they realize that they are
going to be slaughtered for the guests."
The eleventh one said, "My husband is Abu Zar` and what is Abu Zar` (i.e., what should I say about
him)? He has given me many ornaments and my ears are heavily loaded with them and my arms have
become fat (i.e., I have become fat). And he has pleased me, and I have become so happy that I feel
proud of myself. He found me with my family who were mere owners of sheep and living in poverty,
and brought me to a respected family having horses and camels and threshing and purifying grain.
Whatever I say, he does not rebuke or insult me. When I sleep, I sleep till late in the morning, and
when I drink water (or milk), I drink my fill. The mother of Abu Zar and what may one say in praise
of the mother of Abu Zar? Her saddle bags were always full of provision and her house was spacious.
As for the son of Abu Zar, what may one say of the son of Abu Zar? His bed is as narrow as an
unsheathed sword and an arm of a kid (of four months) satisfies his hunger. As for the daughter of
Abu Zar, she is obedient to her father and to her mother. She has a fat well-built body and that arouses
the jealousy of her husband's other wife. As for the (maid) slave girl of Abu Zar, what may one say of
the (maid) slavegirl of Abu Zar? She does not uncover our secrets but keeps them, and does not waste
our provisions and does not leave the rubbish scattered everywhere in our house."
The eleventh lady added, "One day it so happened that Abu Zar went out at the time when the milk
was being milked from the animals, and he saw a woman who had two sons like two leopards playing
with her two breasts. (On seeing her) he divorced me and married her. Thereafter I married a noble
man who used to ride a fast tireless horse and keep a spear in his hand. He gave me many things, and
also a pair of every kind of livestock and said, Eat (of this), O Um Zar, and give provision to your
relatives."
She added, "Yet, all those things which my second husband gave me could not fill the smallest utensil
of Abu Zar's."
`Aisha then said: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said to me, "I am to you as Abu Zar was to his wife Um Zar."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 67, Hadith 123
Once Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) went out to the Musalla (to offer the prayer) of `Id-al-Adha or Al-Fitr prayer.
Then he passed by the women and said, "O women! Give alms, as I have seen that the majority of the
dwellers of Hell-fire were you (women)." They asked, "Why is it so, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ?" He replied,
"You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in
intelligence and religion than you. A cautious sensible man could be led astray by some of you." The
women asked, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! What is deficient in our intelligence and religion?" He said, "Is not
the evidence of two women equal to the witness of one man?" They replied in the affirmative. He
said, "This is the deficiency in her intelligence. Isn't it true that a woman can neither pray nor fast
during her menses?" The women replied in the affirmative. He said, "This is the deficiency in her
religion."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 6, Hadith 9
I was a Christian Bedouin; then I embraced Islam. I came to a man of my tribe, who was called Hudhaym ibn Thurmulah. I said to him. O brother, I am eager to wage war in the cause of Allah (i.e. jihad), and I find that both hajj and umrah are due from me. How can I combine them?
He said: Combine them and sacrifice the animal made easily available for you. I, therefore, raised my voice in talbiyah for both of them (i.e. umrah and hajj). When I reached al-Udhayb, Salman ibn Rabi'ah and Zayd ibn Suhan met me while I was raising my voice in talbiyah for both of them.
One of them said to the other: This (man) does not have any more understanding than his camel. Thereupon it was as if a mountain fell on me.
I came to Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) and said to him: Commander of the Faithful, I was a Christian Bedouin, and I have embraced Islam. I am eager to wage war in the cause of Allah (jihad), and I found that both hajj and umrah were due from me. I came to a man of my tribe who said to me: Combine both of them and sacrifice the animal easily available for you. I have raised my voice in talbiyah for both of them.
Umar thereupon said to me: You have been guided to the practice (sunnah) of your Prophet) (ﷺ).
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 11, Hadith 79
A bedouin came and said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Judge between us according to Allah's Book (Laws)."
His opponent stood up and said, "He has said the truth, so judge between us according to Allah's
Laws." The bedouin said, "My son was a laborer for this man and committed illegal sexual intercourse
with his wife. The people said to me, 'Your son is to be stoned to death,' so I ransomed my son for one
hundred sheep and a slave girl. Then I asked the religious learned men and they said to me, 'Your son
has to receive one hundred lashes plus one year of exile.' " The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "I shall judge between
you according to Allah's Book (Laws)! As for the slave girl and the sheep, it shall be returned to you,
and your son shall receive one-hundred lashes and be exiled for one year. O you, Unais!" The Prophet (ﷺ)
addressed some man, "Go in the morning to the wife of this man and stone her to death." So Unais
went to her the next morning and stoned her to death.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 93, Hadith 55
Abu `Abdur-Rahman and Hibban bin 'Atiyya had a dispute. Abu `Abdur-Rahman said to Hibban,
"You know what made your companions (i.e. `Ali) dare to shed blood." Hibban said, "Come on! What
is that?" `Abdur-Rahman said, "Something I heard him saying." The other said, "What was it?"
`AbdurRahman said, "`Ali said, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) sent for me, Az-Zubair and Abu Marthad, and all of
us were cavalry men, and said, 'Proceed to Raudat-Hajj (Abu Salama said that Abu 'Awana called it
like this, i.e., Hajj where there is a woman carrying a letter from Hatib bin Abi Balta'a to the pagans
(of Mecca). So bring that letter to me.' So we proceeded riding on our horses till we overtook her at
the same place of which Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had told us. She was traveling on her camel. In that letter
Hatib had written to the Meccans about the proposed attached of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) against them. We
asked her, "Where is the letter which is with you?' She replied, 'I haven't got any letter.' So we made
her camel kneel down and searched her luggage, but we did not find anything. My two companions
said, 'We do not think that she has got a letter.' I said, 'We know that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) has not told a
lie.'"
Then `Ali took an oath saying, "By Him by Whom one should swear! You shall either bring out the
letter or we shall strip off your clothes." She then stretched out her hand for her girdle (round her
waist) and brought out the paper (letter). They took the letter to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). `Umar said, "O
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! (Hatib) has betrayed Allah, His Apostle and the believers; let me chop off his neck!"
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "O Hatib! What obliged you to do what you have done?" Hatib replied, "O
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Why (for what reason) should I not believe in Allah and His Apostle? But I intended
to do the (Mecca) people a favor by virtue of which my family and property may be protected as there
is none of your companions but has some of his people (relatives) whom Allah urges to protect his
family and property." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "He has said the truth; therefore, do not say anything to him
except good." `Umar again said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! He has betrayed Allah, His Apostle and the
believers; let me chop his neck off!" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Isn't he from those who fought the battle of
Badr? And what do you know, Allah might have looked at them (Badr warriors) and said (to them),
'Do what you like, for I have granted you Paradise?' " On that, `Umar's eyes became flooded with tears
and he said, "Allah and His Apostle know best."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 88, Hadith 21
The Messenger of Allah (way peace be upon him) addressed us and said: You would travel In the evening and the might till (God willing) you would come in the morning to a place of water. So the people travelled (self absorbed) without paying any heed to one another, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) also travelled till It was midnight. I was by his side. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) began to doze and leaned (to one side) of his camel. I came to him and I lent him support without awaking him till he sat poised on his ride. He went on travelling till a major part of the night was over and (he again) leaned (to one side) of his camel. I supported him without awaking him till he sat" bed on his ride. and then travelled till it was near dawn. He (again) leaned which was far more inclined than the two earlier leanings and he was about to fall down. So I came to him and supported him and he lifted his head and said; Who is this? I said: it is Abu Qatida. He (the Prophet again) said: Since how long have you been travelling along with me like this? I said: I have been travelling in this very state since the night. He said: May Allah protect you, as you have protected His Apostle (from falling down), and again said: Do you see that we are hidden from the people? - and again said: Do you see anyone? I said: Here is a rider. I again said: Here Is another rider till we gathered together and we were seven riders. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stepped aside of the highway and placed his head (for sleep and said): Guard for us our prayers. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was the first to wake up and the rays of the sun were falling on his back. We got up startled He (the Holy Prophet) said: Ride on So we rode on till the sun had (sufficiently) risen. He then came down from his camel and called for a jug of water which I had with me. There was a little water in that. He performed ablution with that which was less thorough as compared with his usual ablutions and some water of that had been left. He (the Holy Prophet) said to Abu Qatida: Keep a watch over your jug of water; it would have (a miraculous) condition about it. Then Bilal summoned (people) to prayer and then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) observed two rak'ahs and then said the morning prayer as he said every day. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) (then) rode on and we rode along with him and some of us whispered to the others saying: How would there be compensation for omission in our prayers? Upon this he (the Messenger of Allah) said: Is there not in me (my life) a model for you? There is no omission in sleeping. The (cognizable) emission is that one should not say prayer (intentionally) till the time of the other prayer comes. So he who did like it (omitted prayer in sleep or due to other unavoidable circumstances) should say prayer when he becomes aware of it and on the next day he should observe it at its prescribed time.
He (the Holy Prophet) said: What do you think the people would have done (at this hour)? They would have in the morning found their Apostle missing from amongst them and then Abu Bakr and 'Umar would have told them that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) must be behind you, he cannot leave you behind (him), but the people said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) is ahead of you. So if you had obeyed Abu Bakr and Umar, you would have gone on the right path. So we proceeded on till we came up to the people (from whom we had lagged behind) and the day had considerably risen and everything became hot, and they (the Companions of the Holy Prophet) said: Messenger of Allah, we are dying of thirst. Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) remarked: There is no destruction for you. And again said: Bring that small cup of mine and he then asked for the jug of water to be brought to him. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) began to pour water (in that small cup) and Abu Qatida gave them to drink. And when the people saw that there was (a little) water in the jug, they fell upon it. Upon this the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Behave well; the water (is enough) to satiate all of you. Then they (the Companions) began to receive (their share of) water with calmness (without showing any anxiety) and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) began to fill (the cap), and I began to serve them till no one was left except me and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). He then filled (the cup) with water and said to me: Drink it. I said: Messenger of Allah, I would not drink till you drink. Upon this he said: The server of the people Is the last among them to drink. So I drank and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) also drank and the people came to the place of water quite happy and satiated. 'Abdullah b. Rabah said: I am going to narrate this hadith in the great mosque, when 'Imran b. Husain said: See, O young man, how will you narrate for I was also one of the riders on that night? I said: So you must be knowing this hadith well. He said: Who are you? I said: I am one of the Ansar. Upon this he said: You narrate, for you know your hadith better. I, therefore, narrated it to the people. 'Imran said: I was also present that night, but I know not anyone else who learnt it so well as you have learnt.
Sahih Muslim Book 5, Hadith 395
`Aisha said, "O my head!" Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "If that (i.e., your death) should happen while I am
still alive, I would ask Allah to forgive you and would invoke Allah for you." `Aisha said, "O my life
which is going to be lost! By Allah, I think that you wish for my death, and if that should happen then
you would be busy enjoying the company of one of your wives in the last part of that day." The
Prophet said, "But I should say, 'O my head!' I feel like calling Abu Bakr and his son and appoint (the
former as my successors lest people should say something or wish for something. Allah will insist (on
Abu Bakr becoming a Caliph) and the believers will prevent (anyone else from claiming the
Caliphate)," or "..Allah will prevent (anyone else from claiming the Caliphate) and the believers will
insist (on Abu Bakr becoming the Caliph).
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 93, Hadith 77
Send with us some men who may teach us the Qur'an and the Sunnah. Accordingjy, he sent seventy men from the Ansar. They were called the Reciters and among them was my maternal uncle. Haram. They used to recite the Qur'an, discuss and ponder over its meaning at night. In the day they brought water and poured it (in pitchers) in the mosque, collected wood and sold it, and with the sale proceeds bought food for the people of the Suffa and the needy. The Prophet (ﷺ) sent the Reciters with these people, but these (treacherous people) fell upon them and killed thern before they reached their destination (While dying), they said: O Allah, convey from us the news to our Prophet that we have met Thee (in a way) that we are pleased with Thee and Thou art pleased with us. (The narrator said): A man attacked Haram (maternal uncle of Anas) ) from behind and smote him with a spear which pierced him. (While dying), Haram said: By the Lord of the Ka'ba, I have met with success. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to his Companions: Your brethren have been slain grid they were saying: O Allah, convey from us to our Prophet the news that we have met Thee in a way that we are pleased with Thee and Thou art pleased with us.
Sahih Muslim Book 33, Hadith 212
I went out of Medina towards Al-Ghaba. When I reached the mountain path of Al-Ghaba, a slave of
`Abdur-Rahman bin `Auf met me. I said to him, "Woe to you! What brought you here?" He replied,
"The she-camels of the Prophet (ﷺ) have been taken away." I said, "Who took them?" He said, "Ghatafan
and Fazara." So, I sent three cries, "O Sabaha-h ! O Sabahah !" so loudly that made the people in
between its (i.e. Medina's) two mountains hear me. Then I rushed till I met them after they had taken
the camels away. I started throwing arrows at them saying, "I am the son of Al-Akwa`"; and today
perish the mean people!" So, I saved the she-camels from them before they (i.e. the robbers) could
drink water. When I returned driving the camels, the Prophet (ﷺ) met me, I said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) Those
people are thirsty and I have prevented them from drinking water, so send some people to chase
them." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "O son of Al-Akwa`, you have gained power (over your enemy), so forgive
(them). (Besides) those people are now being entertained by their folk."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 56, Hadith 247
Abu Bakr asked the Prophet (ﷺ) to allow him to go out (of Mecca) when he was greatly annoyed (by the
infidels). But the Prophet (ﷺ) said to him, ''Wait." Abu Bakr said, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Do you hope that
you will be allowed (to migrate)?" Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) replied, "I hope so." So Abu Bakr waited for him
till one day Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) came at noon time and addressed him saying "Let whoever is present with
you, now leave you." Abu Bakr said, "None is present but my two daughters." The Prophet (ﷺ) said,
"Have you noticed that I have been allowed to go out (to migrate)?" Abu Bakr said, "O Allah's
Apostle, I would like to accompany you." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "You will accompany me." Abu Bakr
said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! I have got two she-camels which I had prepared and kept ready for (our)
going out." So he gave one of the two (she-camels) to the Prophet (ﷺ) and it was Al-Jad`a . They both
rode and proceeded till they reached the Cave at the mountain of Thaur where they hid themselves.
Amir bin Fuhaira was the slave of `Abdullah bin at-Tufail bin Sakhbara `Aisha's brother from her
mother's side. Abu Bakr had a milch she-camel. Amir used to go with it (i.e. the milch she-camel) in
the afternoon and come back to them before noon by setting out towards them in the early morning
when it was still dark and then he would take it to the pasture so that none of the shepherds would be
aware of his job. When the Prophet (and Abu Bakr) went away (from the Cave), he (i.e. 'Amir) too
went along with them and they both used to make him ride at the back of their camels in turns till they
reached Medina. 'Amir bin Fuhaira was martyred on the day of Bir Ma'una.
Narrated `Urwa: When those (Muslims) at Bir Ma'una were martyred and `Amr bin Umaiya Ad-
Damri was taken prisoner, 'Amir bin at-Tufail, pointing at a killed person, asked `Amr, "Who is this?"
`Amr bin Umaiya said to him, "He is 'Amir bin Fuhaira." 'Amir bin at-Tufail said, "I saw him lifted to
the sky after he was killed till I saw the sky between him and the earth, and then he was brought down
upon the earth. Then the news of the killed Muslims reached the Prophet (ﷺ) and he announced the news
of their death saying, "Your companions (of Bir Ma'una) have been killed, and they have asked their
Lord saying, 'O our Lord! Inform our brothers about us as we are pleased with You and You are
pleased with us." So Allah informed them (i.e. the Prophet (ﷺ) and his companions) about them (i.e.
martyrs of Bir Mauna).
On that day, `Urwa bin Asma bin As-Salt who was one of them, was killed, and `Urwa (bin Az-
Zubair) was named after `Urwa bin Asma and Mundhir (bin AzZubair) was named after Mundhir bin
`Amr (who had also been martyred on that day).
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 64, Hadith 137
Allah's Messenger said to Al-Abbas: "O uncle! Shall I not give to you, shall I not present to you, shall I not benefit you?" He said: "Of course, O Messenger of Allah!" He said: "O uncle! Pray four Rak'ah, reciting in each Rak'ah Fatihatil-Kitab and a Surah. When you are finished your recitation then say: Allahu Akbar, wal-hamdulilah, wa Subhan-Allah, and say it ten times. Then raise your head and say it ten times before standing. That is seventy-five in every Rak'ah, which is three-hundred in four Rak'ah. If your sins were like a heap of sand then Allah would forgive you." He said: "O Messenger if Allah! Who is able to say that every day?" He said: "If you can not say it every day then say it every Friday, and if you are not able to say it every Friday then say it every month." And he did not stop saying that until he said: "Then say it every year."
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 3, Hadith 30
An Ansari woman who gave the pledge of allegiance to the Prophet (ﷺ) that the Ansar drew lots
concerning the dwelling of the Emigrants. `Uthman bin Maz'un was decided to dwell with them (i.e.
Um Al-`Ala's family), `Uthman fell ill and I nursed him till he died, and we covered him with his
clothes. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) came to us and I (addressing the dead body) said, "O Abu As-Sa'ib, may
Allah's Mercy be on you! I bear witness that Allah has honored you." On that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "How
do you know that Allah has honored him?" I replied, "I do not know. May my father and my mother
be sacrificed for you, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! But who else is worthy of it (if not `Uthman)?" He said, "As
to him, by Allah, death has overtaken him, and I hope the best for him. By Allah, though I am the
Apostle of Allah, yet I do not know what Allah will do to me," By Allah, I will never assert the piety
of anyone after him. That made me sad, and when I slept I saw in a dream a flowing stream for
`Uthman bin Maz'un. I went to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and told him of it. He remarked, "That symbolizes his
(good) deeds."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 63, Hadith 154
My grandfather, Rafi` said, "We were in the company of the Prophet (ﷺ) at DhulHulaifa, and the people
suffered from hunger. We got some camels and sheep (as booty) and the Prophet (ﷺ) was still behind the
people. They hurried and put the cooking pots on the fire. (When he came) he ordered that the cooking
pots should be upset and then he distributed the booty (amongst the people) regarding ten sheep as
equal to one camel then a camel fled and the people chased it till they got tired, as they had a few
horses (for chasing it). So a man threw an arrow at it and caused it to stop (with Allah's Permission).
On that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'Some of these animals behave like wild beasts, so, if any animal flee from
you, deal with it in the same way." My grandfather asked (the Prophet (ﷺ) ), "We hope (or are afraid) that
we may meet the enemy tomorrow and we have no knives. Can we slaughter our animals with canes?"
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) replied, "If the instrument used for killing causes the animal to bleed profusely and if
Allah's Name is mentioned on killing it, then eat its meat (i.e. it is lawful) but won't use a tooth or a
nail and I am telling you the reason: A tooth is a bone (and slaughtering with a bone is forbidden ),
and a nail is the slaughtering instrument of the Ethiopians."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 56, Hadith 280
"We used to hope that an intelligent Bedouin would show up to question the Prophet while we were with him. So one while we were with him, a Bedouin came, kneeling in front of the Prophet, and he said: 'O Muhammad, your messenger came to us and told us that you say that Allah sent you.' So the Prophet say: 'Yes.' He said, 'So, (swear) by the One who raised the heaves, and spread out the earth, and erected the mountains; has Allah sent you?' The Prophet said, 'Yes.' He said: 'Your messenger told us that you say that there are five prayers required from us in a day and a night.' The Prophet said, 'Yes.' He said, 'By the One Who sent you, has Allah ordered that you you?' He said, 'Yes.' He said, 'Your messenger told us that you say that we are required to fast for a month out of the year.' He said, 'He told the truth.' He said, 'By the One Who sent you, has Allah ordered that you?' The Prophet said, 'Yes.' He said, 'Your messenger told us that Zakat is required from our wealth.' The Prophet said, 'He told the truth.' He said, 'By the One Who sent you, has Allah ordered you that?' The Prophet said, 'Yes.' He said, 'Your messenger told us that you say that we are required to perform Hajj to Allah's House if able to undertake the journey.' The Prophet said, 'Yes.' He said, 'By the One Who sent you, has Allah Commanded you that?' (The Prophet said:) 'Yes.' So he said: 'By the One Who sent you with the Truth, I will not leave any of them, nor surpass them.' Then he got up quickly (leaving). The Prophet said: 'If the Bedouin told the truth, then he will enter Paradise.'"
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 7, Hadith 3
`Abdullah bin Mas`ud said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was granted a combination of all manner of goodness, as well as its seal,” or he said: “The opening (of the way to) all good. He (ﷺ) taught us the Khutbah of prayer and Khutbah of need. 'The Khutbah of prayer is: At-tahiyyatu lillahi was-salawatu wat-tayyibat. As-salamu `alaika ayyuhan-Nabiyyu was rahmat-ullahi was barakatuhu. As-salamu `alaina wa `ala `ibadillahis-salihin. Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah. Wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan `abduhu wa rasuluh (All compliments, prayers and pure words are due to Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous slaves of Allah. I bear witness that none has the right to be worshiped but Allah. And I bear witness that Muhammad (ﷺ) is His slave and Messenger). The Khutbah of need is: Al-hamdu lillahi nahmadhu wa nasta`inuhu wa nastaghfiruhu, wa na`udhu billahi min shururi anfusina wa min sayi'ati a`malina, man yahdihillahu fala mudilla lahu, wa man yudlil fala hadiya lahu. Wa ashadu an la ilaha illallahu wahduhu la sharika lahu, wa anna Muhammadan `abduhu wa rasuluhu. (Praise is to Allah, we praise Him and we seek His help and His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allah from the evil of our own souls and from our bad deeds, Whomsoever Allah guides will never be led astray; and whomsoever is led astray, no one can guide. I bear witness that none has the right to be worshiped but Allah, alone with no partner or associate, and that Muhammad (ﷺ) is His slave and His Messenger). Then add to your Khutbah the following three verses: 'O you who believe! Fear Allah as He should be feared, and die not except in the state of Islam (as Muslims) with complete submission to Allah.' And: 'O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you from a single person, and from him He created his wife, and from them both He created many men and women, and fear Allah through Whom you demand your mutual (rights), and (do not cut the relations of) the wombs (kinship). Surely, Allah is Ever an All-Watcher over you.' And: 'O you who believe! Keep your duty to Allah and fear Him, and speak (always) the truth. He will direct you to do righteous good deeds and will forgive you your sins...' until the end of the verse.”
Sunan Ibn Majah Book 9, Hadith 48
“The Messenger of
Allah
(ﷺ) used to teach us Istikharah, just as he used to teach us a
Surah of the Qur’an. He said: ‘If anyone of you is deliberating
about
a decision he has to make, then let him pray two Rak’ah of
non-
obligatory prayer, then say: Allahumma inni astakhiruka bi
‘ilmika wa
astaqdiruka bi qudratika wa as’aluka min
fadlikal-‘azim, fa innaka
taqdiru wa la aqdir, wa ta’lamu wa la
a’lam, wa Anta ‘allamul-ghuyub.
Allahumma in kunta ta’lamu
hadhal-amra (then the matter should be
mentioned by name) ma kan min
shay’in khairan li fi dini wa ma’ashi wa
‘aqibati amri, aw
khairanli fi ‘ajili amri wa ajilihi, faqdurhu li wa
yassirhu li wa
barik li fihi. Wa in kunta ta’lamu [O Allah, I seek
Your guidance
(in making a choice) by virtue of Your knowledge, and I
seek ability
by virtue of Your power, and I ask You of Your great
bounty. You have
power, I have none. And You know, I know not. You are
the Knower of
hidden things. O Allah, if in Your knowledge, this
matter (then it
should be mentioned by name) is good for me in my
religion, my
livelihood and my affairs, or both in this world and in
the Hereafter
then ordain it for me, make it easy for me, and bless it
for me. And
if in Your knowledge]. Then saying similar to what he said
the first
time, except: Wa in kana sharran li fasrifhu ‘anni wasrifni
‘anhu
waqdur li al-khair haithuma kana thumma raddini bihi (If it is
bad
for me then turn it away from me and turn me away from it, and
ordain
for me the good wherever it may be and make me pleased with
it).’”
