Yahya related to me from Malik from Wahb ibn Kaysan that Muhammad
ibn Amr ibn Ata said, "I was sitting with Abdullah ibn Abbas when a
Yemeni man came in. He said, 'Peace be upon you, and the mercy of
Allah and His blessing' (as-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa
barakatuhu), and then he added something more to that. Ibn Abbas said
(and at that time his eyesight had gone), 'Who is this?' People said,
'This is a Yemeni who has come to see you,' and they introduced him.
Ibn Abbas said, 'The greeting ends with the word blessing.' "
Yahya said that Malik was asked, "Does one greet a woman?" He said,
"As for an old woman, I do not disapprove of it. As for a young woman,
I do not like it."
Muwatta Malik Book 53, Hadith 2
“There is no Muslim who is
stricken
with a calamity and reacts by saying as Allah has commanded:
‘Inna
lillahi, wa inna ilayhi raji’un. Allahumma indaka ahtasabtu
musibati, fajurni fiha, wa ‘awwidni minha (Truly, to Allah we belong
and truly, to Him we shall return. O Allah, with You I seek reward
for
my calamity, so reward me for it and compensate me),’ but Allah
will
reward him for that and compensate him with something better
than it.”
She said: “When Abu Salamah died, I remembered what he
had told me
from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and I said: ‘Inna
lillahi, wa inna
ilayhi raji’un. Allahumma indaka ahtasabtu
musibati, fajurni alaiha
(Truly, to Allah we belong and truly, to Him
we shall return. O Allah,
with You I seek reward for my calamity, so
reward me for it).’ But
when I wanted to say wa ‘awwidni minha
(and compensate me with
better), I said to myself: ‘How can I be
compensated with something
better than Abu Salamah?’ Then I said
it, and Allah compensated me
with Muhammad (ﷺ) and rewarded me for
my calamity.”
Sunan Ibn Majah Book 6, Hadith 166
On the day (of the battle) of Hunain, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) favored some people in the distribution of the
booty (to the exclusion of others); he gave Al-Aqra' bin H`Abis one-hundred camels and he gave
'Uyaina the same amount, and also gave to some of the eminent Arabs, giving them preference in this
regard. Then a person came and said, "By Allah, in this distribution justice has not been observed, nor
has Allah's Pleasure been aimed at." I said (to him), "By Allah, I will inform the Prophet (of what you
have said), "I went and informed him, and he said, "If Allah and His Apostle did not act justly, who
else would act justly. May Allah be merciful to Moses, for he was harmed with more than this, yet he
kept patient."
