There happened to pass by Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) a Jew blackened and lashed. Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) called them (the Jews) and said: Is this the punishment that you find in your Book (Torah) as a prescribed punishment for adultery? They said: Yes. He (the Holy Prophet) called one of the scholars amongst them and said: I ask you in the name of Allah Who sent down the Torah on Moses if that is the prescribed punishment for adultery that you find in your Book. He said: No. Had you not asked me in the name of Allah, I would not have given you this information. We find stoning to death (as punishment prescribed in the Torah). But this (crime) became quite common amongst our aristocratic class. So when we caught hold of any rich person (indulging in this offence) we spared him, but when we caught hold of a helpless person we imposed the prescribed punishment upon him. We then said: Let us argree (on a punishment) which we can inflict both upon the rich and the poor. So We decided to blacken the face with coal and flog as a substitute punishment for stoning. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: O Allah, I am the first to revive Thy command when they had made it dead. He then commanded and he (the offender) was stoned to death. Allah, the Majestic and Glorious, sent down (this verse):" O Messenger, (the behaviour of) those who vie with one another in denying the truth should not grieve you..." up to" is vouchsafed unto you, accept it" (v. 41) 2176 It was said (by the Jews): Go to Muhammad; it he commands you to blacken the face and award flogging (as punishment for adultery), then accept it, but it he gives verdict for stoning, then avoid it. It was (then) that Allah, the Majestic and Great, sent down (these verses):" And they who do not judge in accordance with what Allah has revealed are, indeed, deniers of the truth" (v. 44) ;" And they who do not judge in accordance with what Allah has revealed-they, they indeed are the wrongdoers" (v. 45) ;" And they who do not judge in accordance with what God has revealed-they are the iniquitous (v. 47). (All these verses) were revealed in connection with the non-believers.
Sahih Muslim Book 29, Hadith 43
"I heard Aishah say: 'A Jewish woman came to me begging, and said: May Allah grant you protection from the torment of the grave.' When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came, I said: 'O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), will people be tormented in their graves?' He sought refuge with Allah (SWT) and climbed onto his mount. The sun became eclipsed while I was between the apartments with some women. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came from his mount and came to his prayer place, and led the people in prayer. He stood for a long time, then he bowed for a long time, then he raised his head and stood for a long time, then he bowed for a long time, then he raised his head and stood for a long time, then he prostrated for a long time. Then he stood for a shorter time than in the first (rak'ah), then he bowed for a shorter time than the first, then he raised his head and stood for a shorter time than the first, then he bowed for a shorter time than the first, then he raised his head and stood for a shorter time than the first, so he bowed four times and prostrated four times, and the eclipse ended. He said: "You will be tried in your graves like the trial of the Dajjal.' Aishah said: 'I heard him after that seeking refuge with Allah from the torment of the grave.'"
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 16, Hadith 18
While we were sitting with the Prophet (ﷺ) a man came and said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! I have been ruined."
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) asked what was the matter with him. He replied "I had sexual intercourse with my
wife while I was fasting." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) asked him, "Can you afford to manumit a slave?" He replied
in the negative. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) asked him, "Can you fast for two successive months?" He replied in
the negative. The Prophet (ﷺ) asked him, "Can you afford to feed sixty poor persons?" He replied in the
negative. The Prophet (ﷺ) kept silent and while we were in that state, a big basket full of dates was
brought to the Prophet (ﷺ) . He asked, "Where is the questioner?" He replied, "I (am here)." The Prophet (ﷺ)
said (to him), "Take this (basket of dates) and give it in charity." The man said, "Should I give it to a
person poorer than I? By Allah; there is no family between its (i.e. Medina's) two mountains who are
poorer than I." The Prophet (ﷺ) smiled till his premolar teeth became visible and then said, 'Feed your
family with it."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 30, Hadith 43
We went out with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) during Hajjat-ul-Wada` and we assumed the Ihram for `Umra. Then
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said to us, "Whoever has got the Hadi should assume the Ihram for Hajj and `Umra
and should not finish his Ihram till he has performed both (`Umra and Hajj)." I arrived at Mecca along
with him (i.e. the Prophet (ﷺ) ) while I was menstruating, so I did not perform the Tawaf around the Ka`ba
or between Safa and Marwa. I informed Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) about that and he said, "Undo your braids and
comb your hair, and then assume the lhram for Hajj and leave the `Umra." I did so, and when we
performed and finished the Hajj, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)s sent me to at-Tan`im along with (my brother)
`Abdur-Rahman bin Abu Bakr As-Siddiq, to perform the `Umra. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "This `Umra is in
lieu of your missed `Umra." Those who had assumed the lhram for `Umra, performed the Tawaf
around the Ka`ba and between Safa and Marwa, and then finished their Ihram, and on their return
from Mina, they performed another Tawaf (around the Ka`ba and between Safa and Marwa), but those
who combined their Hajj and `Umra, performed only one Tawaf (between Safa and Marwa) (for
both).
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 64, Hadith 418
Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi from Abdullah ibn Umar
that Umar ibn al-Khattab said, "If a slave who has wealth is sold,
that wealth belongs to the seller unless the buyer stipulates its
inclusion."
Malik said, "The generally agreed upon way of
doing things among us is that if the buyer stipulates the inclusion of
the slave's property whether it be cash, debts, or goods of known or
unknown value, then they belong to the buyer, even if the slave
possesses more than that for which he was purchased, whether he was
bought for cash, as payment for a debt, or in exchange for goods. This
is possible because a master is not asked to pay zakat on his slave's
property. If a slave has a slave-girl, it is halal for him to have
intercourse with her by his right of possession. If a slave is freed
or put under contract (kitaba) to purchase his freedom, then his
property goes with him. If he becomes bankrupt, his creditors take his
property and his master is not liable for any of his debts."
Muwatta Malik Book 31, Hadith 2
We, the wives of Allah's Apostle (ﷺ), were with him (during his last illness) and none was absent therefrom that Fatima, who walked after the style of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), came there, and when he saw her he welcomed her saying: You are welcome, my daughter. He their made her sit on his right side or on his left side. Then he said something secretly to her and she wept bitterly and when he found her (plunged) in grief he said to her something secretly for the second time and she laughed. I ('A'isha) said to her: Allah's Messenger has singled you amongst the women (of the family) for talking (to you something secretly) and you wept. When Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) recovered from illness, I said to her. What did Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) say to you? Thereupon she said: I am not going to disclose the secret of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). When Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) died, I said to her: I adjure you by the right that I have upon you that you should narrate to me what Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said to you. She said: Yes, now I can do that (so listen to it). When he talked to me secretly for the first time he informed me that Gabirel was in the habit of reciting the Quran along with him once or twice every year, but this year it had been twice and so he perceived his death quite near, so fear Allah and be patient (and he told me) that he would be a befitting forerunner for me and so I wept as you saw me. And when he saw me in grief he talked to me secretly for the second time and said: Fatima, are you not pleased that you should be at the head of the believing women or the head of this Umma? I laughed and it was that laughter which you saw.
