Did not news come to you of those before you: the people of Noah, and 'Aad, and Thamud, and those after them whom none know except God? Their messengers came to them with clarity, but they placed their hands onto their mouths and said: "We are rejecting what you have been sent with, and we are in doubt as to what you are inviting us to.

Have you not heard about those who went before you, the people of Noah, Ad, Thamud, and those who lived after them, known only to God? Their messengers came to them with clear proof, but they tried to silence them, saying, ‘We do not believe the message with which you were sent. We have disturbing doubts about what you are asking us to do.’

Have you not received the tidings of those who were before you, the people of Nuh and Aad, and the Thamud and those after them? They are known to Allah alone. There came to them their messengers with bright proofs, but they turned their hands to their mouths and said, 'we deny that with which you have been sent, and the path towards which you call us, concerning that we are in a doubt creating suspense.

Has news not reached you of those who came before you, the peoples of Nuh and ´Ad and Thamud, and those who came after them who are known to no one but Allah? Their Messengers came to them with Clear Signs, but they put their hands to their mouths, saying, ´We reject what you have been sent with. We have grave doubts about what you are calling us to.´

Has any account not reached you of the exemplary histories of those who lived before you – the people of Noah, and the ‘Ad and Thamud – and those who came after them? None save God has true knowledge about them. Their Messengers came to them with clear signs of the truth, but they thrust their hands into their mouths (in derision and anger, and frustrated by their inability to refute them), and said: "We certainly disbelieve in what you have been sent, and indeed we are in serious doubt about that to which you call us."

Has there not come to you the account of those who were before you —the people of Noah, ‘a€d and Thamud, and those who were after them, whom no one knows [well] except Allah? Their apostles brought them manifest proofs, but they did not respond to them, and said, ‘We disbelieve in what you have been sent with. Indeed we have grave doubts concerning that to which you invite us.’

Has not the important news come to you of your predecessors, the people of Noah, (the tribes of) 'Ad and Thamud and those who came after them. None knows them (now) but Allah. Their Messengers (of God) came to them with clear proofs, but they put their hands again and again on their mouths (showing great resentment and out of rage) saying, `We have already rejected that (revelation) you have been sent with and infact we are in disquieting doubt as to that (faith) you call us to.

Has there not come to you the tidings of those who were before you -- the people of Noah, Ad, Thamood, and of those after them whom none knows but God? Their Messengers came to them with the clear signs; but they thrust their hands into their mouths, saying, 'We certainly disbelieve in the Message you have been sent with, and we are in doubt, concerning that you call us unto, disquieting.

There were also other nations (such as Mayas, Incas, etc.) that only God knows their full history. All those nations were blessed with Prophets who had undeniable miracles in support of their prophet hood. But when they conveyed the Message, people put their fingers in their mouth (the utmost sign of disrespect, as though they were vomiting) and said: “We disbelieve in your miracles and doubt about the way of life that you are inviting us to.”

Has the story not reached you of those who went before? Of the people of Noah, ‘Ad, Thamud, and of those after them? None knows of them but God. To them came messengers with clear signs, but they put their hands up to their mouths and said, “We deny the mission which you have been sent, and we are really in suspicious doubt as to that which you invite us.

And surely, we are really in grave doubt about what you call us towards it.

Approach not to you the tidings of those before you: The folk of Noah and Ad and Thamud and of those after them. None knows them but God. Their Messengers drew near them with the clear portents, but they shoved their hands into their mouths in denial. Then, they said: Truly, we disbelieved in what you were sent and we are in uncertainty about that to which you call us. We are in grave doubt.

Has the account of those who have passed away before you not reached you? They were the people of Nuh (Noah) and (of the communities) of ‘Ad and Thamud and (others) who came after them. No one knows them except Allah (because they have been totally annihilated from the surface of the earth). Their Messengers came to them with clear signs. So they put their hands into their mouths (out of mockery and spite) and (dared) say: ‘We deny this (Din [Religion]) which you have been sent with, and we are certainly in disquieting doubt about what you invite us to.

Have you not heard the tales of those gone by __ the people of Nooh, Aads, Samoods, and others after them? Now, no one knows them except Allah. The messengers brought them clear proofs! But they shoved their hands in the messengers´ mouths, _ (forbade them to speak) _ and said, "Here! We reject what you were sent with. We are reluctant and skeptical about your message!"

Has not the story come to you of those who were before you, of the people of Noah, and 'Ad, and Thamud, and those who came after them? none knows them save God. Apostles came unto them with manifest signs; but they thrust their hands into their mouths and said, 'Verily, we disbelieve in that which ye are sent with, and we are in hesitating doubt concerning that to which ye call us!

Only Allah knows them; their Noble Messengers came to them with clear proofs, they therefore raised their hands towards their own mouths, and said, "We disbelieve in what you have been sent with, and we are in a deeply intriguing doubt regarding the path you call us to."

Have not the news of those before you come to you from the people of Noah and of ‘Ad and of Samood and those after them? No one knows them except Allah. Their messengers came to them with clear signs but they put their hands back on their mouths and they said, “We disbelieve in that which you are sent with and we are indeed in a doubtful incredulity about that to which you call us.”

No (one) knows them except God, their messengers came to them with the evidences, so they returned their hands in their mouths (they bit their fingers from anger), and they said: "We have disbelieved with what you were sent with it, and we are in (E) doubtful/suspicious doubt/suspicion from what you call us to it."

HAVE THE STORIES of those [deniers of the truth] who lived before you never yet come within your ken - [the stories of] the people of Noah, and of [the tribes of] `Ad and Thamud, and of those who came after them? None knows them [now] save God. There came unto them their apostles with all evidence of the truth -but they covered their mouths with their hands and answered: "Behold, we refuse to regard as true the message with which you [claim to] have been entrusted; and, behold, we are in grave doubt, amounting to suspicion, about [the meaning of] your call to us!"

Their Messengers came to them with the Supreme evidences; yet they turned back their hands in their mouths (i.e., put their hands in their mouths "biting them in anger") and said, "Surely we disbelieve in what you have been sent with, and surely we are indeed in doubt concerning that to which you call us, causing suspicion."

Hasn’t the story of past generations reached you: the people of Nuh, Ad, Thamud, and of those after them whom only Allah knows? When their messengers came with clear proofs, they put their hands on their mouths to silence them and said, “We reject what you have been sent with, and we seriously doubt what you are calling us to.”

Have you not ˹already˺ received the stories of those who were before you: the people of Noah, ’Âd, Thamûd, and those after them? Only Allah knows how many they were. Their messengers came to them with clear proofs, but they put their hands over their mouths and said, “We totally reject what you have been sent with, and we are certainly in alarming doubt about what you are inviting us to.”
