When Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) reached Medina, Abu Bakr and Bilal became ill. When Abu Bakr's fever got
worse, he would recite (this poetic verse): "Everybody is staying alive with his People, yet Death is
nearer to him than His shoe laces." And Bilal, when his fever deserted him, would recite: "Would that
I could stay overnight in A valley wherein I would be Surrounded by Idhkhir and Jalil (kinds of goodsmelling
grass). Would that one day I could Drink the water of the Majanna, and Would that (The two
mountains) Shama and Tafil would appear to me!" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "O Allah! Curse Shaiba bin
Rabi`a and `Utba bin Rabi`a and Umaiya bin Khalaf as they turned us out of our land to the land of
epidemics." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) then said, "O Allah! Make us love Medina as we love Mecca or even
more than that. O Allah! Give blessings in our Sa and our Mudd (measures symbolizing food) and
make the climate of Medina suitable for us, and divert its fever towards Aljuhfa." Aisha added: When
we reached Medina, it was the most unhealthy of Allah's lands, and the valley of Bathan (the valley of
Medina) used to flow with impure colored water.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 29, Hadith 23
Whenever Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) went to Quba, he used to visit Um Haram bint Milhan who would offer him
meals; and she was the wife of 'Ubada bin As-samit. One day he went to her house and she offered
him a meal, and after that he slept, and then woke up smiling. She (Um Haram) said, "I asked him,
'What makes you laugh, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)?' He said, 'Some people of my followers were displayed
before me as warriors fighting for Allah's Cause and sailing over this sea, kings on thrones,' or said,
'like kings on thrones.' (The narrator, 'Is-haq is in doubt about it.) I (Um Haram) said, 'O Allah's
Apostle! Invoke Allah that He may make me one of them.' He invoked (Allah) for her and then lay his
head and slept again and then woke up smiling. I asked, 'What makes you laugh, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)?'
He said, 'Some people of my followers were displayed before me as warriors fighting for Allah's
Cause and sailing over this sea, kings on the thrones,' or said, 'like kings on the thrones.' I (Um
Haram) said, 'O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Invoke Allah that He may make me one of them.' He said, You will
be amongst the first ones." It is said that Um Haram sailed over the sea at the time of Muawiya, and
on coming out of the sea, she fell down from her riding animal and died.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 79, Hadith 56
"Indeed, a woman from the wives of the people of Paradise, the whiteness of her shin is visible through seventy garments until her marrow is seen, and that is because Allah, he Exalted, says: As if they are corundum and Marjan. So, as for the corundum, it is a stone that if you were to enter a wire through it, then you polished its cloudiness away, you would surely be able to see it through it." Another chain reports a similar narration.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 38, Hadith 11
"Humaid narrated: 'Anas - bin Malik - was asked about the torment of the grave and about the Dajjal. He said: "The Prophet of Allah used to say: Allahumma, inni a'udhu bika minal-kasali, wal-harami, wal-jubni, wal-bukhli, wa fitnatid-dajjali, wa 'adhabil-qabr (O Allah, I seek refuge with You from laziness, old age, cowardice, stinginess, the tribulation of the Dajjal and the torment of the grave.)'"
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 50, Hadith 30
Yahya related to me from Malik from his paternal uncle Abu Suhayl
ibn Malik that his father heard Talha ibn Ubaydullah say, "Once one of
the people of Najd came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him
and grant him peace. He had dishevelled hair and although his voice
could be heard we could not make out what he was saying until he drew
nearer and then we found he was asking about Islam. The Messenger of
Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to him, 'There
are five prayers during the day and the night.' He said, 'Do I have to
do anything else besides that?' The Messenger of Allah, may Allah
bless him and grant him peace, added, 'And fasting the month of
Ramadan.' He said, 'Is there anything else I have to do?' He said,
'No, except what you do of your own accord.' The Messenger of Allah,
may Allah bless him and grant him peace, mentioned zakat. The man
said, 'Is there anything else that I have to do?' He said, 'No, except
what you do of your own accord.'
He continued, "The man went
away saying, 'By Allah, I won't do any more than this, nor will I do
any less.' The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him
peace, said, 'That man will be successful, if he is telling the
truth.'
