We set out in the company of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) on the day (of the battle) of Hunain. When we faced the
enemy, the Muslims retreated and I saw a pagan throwing himself over a Muslim. I turned around and
came upon him from behind and hit him on the shoulder with the sword He (i.e. the pagan) came
towards me and seized me so violently that I felt as if it were death itself, but death overtook him and
he released me. I followed `Umar bin Al Khattab and asked (him), "What is wrong with the people
(fleeing)?" He replied, "This is the Will of Allah," After the people returned, the Prophet (ﷺ) sat and said,
"Anyone who has killed an enemy and has a proof of that, will posses his spoils." I got up and said,
"Who will be a witness for me?" and then sat down. The Prophet (ﷺ) again said, "Anyone who has killed
an enemy and has proof of that, will possess his spoils." I (again) got up and said, "Who will be a
witness for me?" and sat down. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) said the same for the third time. I again got up, and
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "O Abu Qatada! What is your story?" Then I narrated the whole story to him. A
man (got up and) said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! He is speaking the truth, and the spoils of the killed man
are with me. So please compensate him on my behalf." On that Abu Bakr As-Siddiq said, "No, by
Allah, he (i.e. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ) will not agree to give you the spoils gained by one of Allah's Lions
who fights on the behalf of Allah and His Apostle." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Abu Bakr has spoken the
truth." So, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) gave the spoils to me. I sold that armor (i.e. the spoils) and with its price I
bought a garden at Bani Salima, and this was my first property which I gained after my conversion to
Islam.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 57, Hadith 50
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "While I was at the House in a state midway between sleep and wakefulness, (an
angel recognized me) as the man lying between two men. A golden tray full of wisdom and belief was
brought to me and my body was cut open from the throat to the lower part of the `Abdomen and then
my `Abdomen was washed with Zamzam water and (my heart was) filled with wisdom and belief. Al-
Buraq, a white animal, smaller than a mule and bigger than a donkey was brought to me and I set out
with Gabriel. When I reached the nearest heaven. Gabriel said to the heaven gate-keeper, 'Open the
gate.' The gatekeeper asked, 'Who is it?' He said, 'Gabriel.' The gate-keeper,' Who is accompanying
you?' Gabriel said, 'Muhammad.' The gate-keeper said, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel said, 'Yes.' Then
it was said, 'He is welcomed. What a wonderful visit his is!' Then I met Adam and greeted him and he
said, 'You are welcomed O son and a Prophet.' Then we ascended to the second heaven. It was asked,
'Who is it?' Gabriel said, 'Gabriel.' It was said, 'Who is with you?' He said, 'Muhammad' It was asked,
'Has he been sent for?' He said, 'Yes.' It was said, 'He is welcomed. What a wonderful visit his is!"
Then I met Jesus and Yahya (John) who said, 'You are welcomed, O brother and a Prophet.' Then we
ascended to the third heaven. It was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel said, 'Gabriel.' It was asked, 'Who is
with you? Gabriel said, 'Muhammad.' It was asked, 'Has he been sent for?' 'Yes,' said Gabriel. 'He is
welcomed. What a wonderful visit his is!' (The Prophet (ﷺ) added:). There I met Joseph and greeted him,
and he replied, 'You are welcomed, O brother and a Prophet!' Then we ascended to the 4th heaven and
again the same questions and answers were exchanged as in the previous heavens. There I met Idris
and greeted him. He said, 'You are welcomed O brother and Prophet.' Then we ascended to the 5th
heaven and again the same questions and answers were exchanged as in previous heavens. there I met
and greeted Aaron who said, 'You are welcomed O brother and a Prophet".
Then we ascended to the 6th heaven and again the same questions and answers were exchanged as in
the previous heavens. There I met and greeted Moses who said, 'You are welcomed O brother and. a
Prophet.' When I proceeded on, he started weeping and on being asked why he was weeping, he said,
'O Lord! Followers of this youth who was sent after me will enter Paradise in greater number than my
followers.' Then we ascended to the seventh heaven and again the same questions and answers were
exchanged as in the previous heavens. There I met and greeted Abraham who said, 'You are
welcomed o son and a Prophet.' Then I was shown Al-Bait-al-Ma'mur (i.e. Allah's House). I asked
Gabriel about it and he said, This is Al Bait-ul-Ma'mur where 70,000 angels perform prayers daily and
when they leave they never return to it (but always a fresh batch comes into it daily).'
Then I was shown Sidrat-ul-Muntaha (i.e. a tree in the seventh heaven) and I saw its Nabk fruits
which resembled the clay jugs of Hajr (i.e. a town in Arabia), and its leaves were like the ears of
elephants, and four rivers originated at its root, two of them were apparent and two were hidden. I
asked Gabriel about those rivers and he said, 'The two hidden rivers are in Paradise, and the apparent
ones are the Nile and the Euphrates.'
Then fifty prayers were enjoined on me. I descended till I met Moses who asked me, 'What have you
done?' I said, 'Fifty prayers have been enjoined on me.' He said, 'I know the people better than you,
because I had the hardest experience to bring Bani Israel to obedience. Your followers cannot put up
with such obligation. So, return to your Lord and request Him (to reduce the number of prayers.' I
returned and requested Allah (for reduction) and He made it forty. I returned and (met Moses) and had
a similar discussion, and then returned again to Allah for reduction and He made it thirty, then twenty,
then ten, and then I came to Moses who repeated the same advice. Ultimately Allah reduced it to five.
When I came to Moses again, he said, 'What have you done?' I said, 'Allah has made it five only.' He
repeated the same advice but I said that I surrendered (to Allah's Final Order)'" Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was
addressed by Allah, "I have decreed My Obligation and have reduced the burden on My slaves, and I
shall reward a single good deed as if it were ten good deeds."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 59, Hadith 18
Malik related to me from Yazid ibn Abdullah ibn al-Hadi from
Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn al-Harith at-Taymi from Sulayman ibn Yasar
from Abdullah ibn Abi Umayya that a woman's husband died, and she did
the idda of four months and ten days. Then she married when she was
free to marry. She stayed with her husband for four and a half months,
then gave birth to a fully developed child. Her husband went to Umar
ibn al-Khattab and mentioned that to him, so Umar called some of the
old women of the Jahiliyya and asked them about that. One of the women
said, "I will tell you what happened with this woman. When her husband
died, she was pregnant by him, but then the blood flowed from her
because of his death and the child became dry in her womb. When her
new husband had intercourse with her and the water reached the child,
the child moved in the womb and grew." Umar ibn al-Khattab believed
her and separated them (until she had completed her idda). Umar said,
"Only good has reached me about you two," and he connected the child
to the first husband.
Muwatta Malik Book 36, Hadith 31
“Peace
be
upon you, abode of believing people. We will join you soon, if
Allah
wills.” Then he said: “Would that we could see our brothers.”
They said: “O Messenger of Allah, are we not your brothers?” He
said:
“You are my Companions. My brothers are those who will come
after me.
I will reach the Cistern ahead of you.” They said: “O
Messenger of
Allah, how will you recognize those of your nation who
have not yet
come?” He said: “If a man has a horse with a blaze
on its forehead and
white feet, don’t you think that he will
recognize it among horses
that are deep black in color?” They said:
“Of course.” He said: “On
the Day of Resurrection they will
come with radiant faces, hands, and
feet, because of the traces of
ablution.” He said: “I will reach the
Cistern ahead of you.”
Then he said: “Men will be driven away from my
Cistern just as
stray camels are driven away. And I will call to them:
‘Come here!’
But it will be said: ‘They changed after you were gone,
and they
kept turning on their heels.’ So I will say: “Be off with
you!”
