We went out with the Prophet (ﷺ) : on a journey and the people suffered from lack of provisions. So
`Abdullah bin Ubai said to his companions, "Don't spend on those who are with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), that
they may disperse and go away from him." He also said, "If we return to Medina, surely, the more
honorable will expel therefrom the meaner. So I went to the Prophet (ﷺ) and informed him of that. He sent
for `Abdullah bin Ubai and asked him, but `Abdullah bin Ubai swore that he did not say so. The
people said, "Zaid told a lie to 'Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)." What they said distressed me very much. Later Allah
revealed the confirmation of my statement in his saying:--
'(When the hypocrites come to you.' (63.1) So the Prophet (ﷺ) called them that they might ask Allah to
forgive them, but they turned their heads aside. (Concerning Allah's saying: 'Pieces of wood propped
up,' Zaid said; They were the most handsome men.)
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 65, Hadith 423
“A Bedouin came to the Prophet (ﷺ) to ask him to pay back a debt that he owed him, and he spoke harshly, saying: 'I will make things difficult for you unless you repay me.' His Companions rebuked him and said: 'Woe to you, do you know who you are speaking to?' He said: 'I am only asking for my rights.' The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'Why do you not support the one who has a right?' Then he sent word to Khawlah bint Qais, saying to her: 'If you have dates, lend them to us until our dates come, then we will pay you back.' She said: 'Yes, may my father be ransomed for you, O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)!' So she gave him a loan, and he paid back the Bedouin and fed him. He (the Bedouin) said: 'You have paid me in full, may Allah (SWT) pay you in full.' He (the Prophet (ﷺ) ) said: 'Those are the best of people. May that nation not be cleansed (of sin) among whom the weak cannot get their rights without trouble.' ”
Sunan Ibn Majah Book 15, Hadith 37
When `Abdullah bin Salam heard the arrival of the Prophet (ﷺ) at Medina, he came to him and said, "I am
going to ask you about three things which nobody knows except a prophet: What is the first portent of
the Hour? What will be the first meal taken by the people of Paradise? Why does a child resemble its
father, and why does it resemble its maternal uncle" Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Gabriel has just now told
me of their answers." `Abdullah said, "He (i.e. Gabriel), from amongst all the angels, is the enemy of
the Jews." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "The first portent of the Hour will be a fire that will bring together the
people from the east to the west; the first meal of the people of Paradise will be Extra-lobe (caudate
lobe) of fish-liver. As for the resemblance of the child to its parents: If a man has sexual intercourse
with his wife and gets discharge first, the child will resemble the father, and if the woman gets
discharge first, the child will resemble her." On that `Abdullah bin Salam said, "I testify that you are
the Messenger of Allah." `Abdullah bin Salam further said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! The Jews are liars, and if
they should come to know about my conversion to Islam before you ask them (about me), they would
tell a lie about me." The Jews came to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and `Abdullah went inside the house. Allah's
Apostle asked (the Jews), "What kind of man is `Abdullah bin Salam amongst you?" They replied,
"He is the most learned person amongst us, and the best amongst us, and the son of the best amongst
us." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "What do you think if he embraces Islam (will you do as he does)?" The
Jews said, "May Allah save him from it." Then `Abdullah bin Salam came out in front of them saying,
"I testify that None has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that Muhammad is the Apostle of
Allah." Thereupon they said, "He is the evilest among us, and the son of the evilest amongst us," and
continued talking badly of him.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 60, Hadith 4
There was a Jew in Medina who used to lend me money up to the season of plucking dates. (Jabir had
a piece of land which was on the way to Ruma). That year the land was not promising, so the payment
of the debt was delayed one year. The Jew came to me at the time of plucking, but gathered nothing
from my land. I asked him to give me one year respite, but he refused. This news reached the Prophet (ﷺ)
whereupon he said to his companions, "Let us go and ask the Jew for respite for Jabir." All of them
came to me in my garden, and the Prophet (ﷺ) started speaking to the Jew, but he Jew said, "O Abu
Qasim! I will not grant him respite." When the Prophet (ﷺ) saw the Jew's attitude, he stood up and walked
all around the garden and came again and talked to the Jew, but the Jew refused his request. I got up
and brought some ripe fresh dates and put it in front of the Prophet. He ate and then said to me,
"Where is your hut, O Jabir?" I informed him, and he said, "Spread out a bed for me in it." I spread
out a bed, and he entered and slept. When he woke up, I brought some dates to him again and he ate of
it and then got up and talked to the Jew again, but the Jew again refused his request. Then the Prophet (ﷺ)
got up for the second time amidst the palm trees loaded with fresh dates, and said, "O Jabir! Pluck
dates to repay your debt." The Jew remained with me while I was plucking the dates, till I paid him all
his right, yet there remained extra quantity of dates. So I went out and proceeded till I reached the
Prophet and informed him of the good news, whereupon he said, "I testify that I am Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 70, Hadith 72
On the Day of Uhud some of the people, being defeated, left the Prophet (ﷺ), but Abu Talha stood before him covering him with a shield. Abu Talha was a powerful archer who broke two or three bows that day. When a man would pass by carrying a quiver containing arrows, he would say: Spare them for Abu Talha. Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) raised his head to look at the people, Abu Talha would say: Prophet of Allah, may my father and my mother be thy ransom, do not raise your head lest you be struck by an arrow shot by the enemy. My neck is before your neck. The narrator said: I saw `A'isha bint Abu Bakr and Umm Sulaim. Both of them had tucked up their garments, so I could see the anklets on their feet. They were carrying water-skins on their backs and would pour water into the mouths of the people. They would then go back (to the well), would fill them again and would return to pour water into the mouths of the soldiers. (On this day), Abu Talha's sword dropped down from his hands twice or thrice because of drowsiness.
Sahih Muslim Book 32, Hadith 165
Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said and 'Abdullah
ibn Abi Bakr and Rabia ibn Abi Abd ar-Rahman that al-Walid ibn Abd al-
Malik asked Salim ibn Abdullah and Kharija ibn Zayd ibn Thabit if he
could use perfume after he had stoned the jamra and shaved his head,
but before he had left for the tawafal-ifada. Salim forbade him to do
so, but Kharija ibn Zayd ibn Thabit said that he could.
Malik
said, "There is no harm in a man oiling himself with an oil which does
not have any perfume in it, either before he enters ihram, or before
he leaves Mina for the tawaf al-ifada, if he has stoned the jamra."
Yahya said that Malik was asked whether someone in ihram
could eat food with saffron in it, and he said, "There is no harm in
some one in ihram eating it if it has been cooked. If, however, it has
not been cooked he should not eat it."
Muwatta Malik Book 20, Hadith 23
If any owner of gold or silver does not pay what is due on him, when the Day of Resurrection would come, plates of fire would be beaten out for him; these would then be heated in the fire of Hell and his sides, his forehead and his back would be cauterized with them. Whenever these cool down, (the process is) repeated during a day the extent of which would be fifty thousand years, until judgment is pronounced among servants, and he sees whether his path is to take him to Paradise or to Hell. It was said: Messenger of Allah, what about the camel? He (the Holy Prophet) said: If any owner of the camel does not pay what is due on him, and of his due in that (camel) is (also) to milk it on the day when it comes down to water. When the Day of Resurrection comes a soft sandy plain would be set for him, as extensive as possible, (he will find) that not a single young one is missing, and they will trample him with their hoofs and bite him with their mouths. As often as the first of them passes him, the last of them would be made to return during a day the extent of which would be fifty thousand years, until judgment is pronounced among servants and he sees whether his path is to take him to Paradise or to Hell. It was (again) said: Messenger of Allah, what about cows (cattle) and sheep? He said: It any owner of the cattle and sheep does not pay what is due on them, when the Day of Resurrection comes a soft sandy plain would be spread for them, he will find none of them missing, with twisted horns, without horns or with a broken horn, and they will gore him with their horns and trample him with their hoofs. As often as the first of them passes him the last of them would be made to return to him during a day the extent of which would be fifty thousand years, until judgment would be pronounced among the servants. And he would be shown his path-path leading him to Paradise or to Hell. It was said: Messenger of Allah, what about the horse? Upon this he said: The horses are of three types. To one than (these are) a burden, and to another man (these are) a covering, and still to another man (these are) a source of reward. The one for whom these are a burden is the person who rears them in order to show off, for vainglory and for opposing the Muslims; so they are a burden for him. The one for whom these are a covering is the person who rears them for the sake of Allah but does not forget the right of Allah concerning their backs and their necks, and so they are a covering for him. As for those which bring reward (these refer to) the person who rears them for the sake of Allah to be used for Muslims and he puts them in meadow and field. And whatever thing do these eat from that meadow and field would be recorded on his behalf as good deeds, as would also the amount of their dung and urine. And these would not break their halter and prance a course or two without having got recorded the amount of their hoof marks and their dung as a good deed on his behalf (on behalf of their owner). And their master does not bring them past a river from which they drink, though he did not intend to quench their thirst, but Allah would record for him the amount of what they drink on his behalf as deeds. It was said: Messenger of Allah, what about the asses?, Upon this he said: Nothing has been revealed to me in regard to the asses (in particular) except this one verse of a comprehensive nature:" He who does an atom's weight of good will see it, and he who does an atom's weight of evil will see it" (xcix. 7)
Sahih Muslim Book 12, Hadith 28
"One day Allah's Messenger was sitting in the Masjid" Rifa'ah said: "And we were with him. Then what appeared to be a Bedouin man entered to pray, but he performed his Salat in a very brief manner. He then got up and greeted the prophet with Salam. The Prophet said (returning the greeting): 'And upon you. Go back and perform Salat, for indeed you have no prayed.' So he returned to perform Salat then came and greeted the Prophet with Salam. So he (the Prophet) said (returning the greeting): 'And upon you. Go back and perform Salat, for indeed you have not prayed.' two or three times, each time coming to the Prophet, greeted the Prophet with Salam and the Prophet saying: 'And upon you. Go back and perform Salat, for indeed you have not prayed.' - until the people got scared and became very worried that one whose prayer was so brief had not actually prayed. Then in the end the man said: 'Then show me, and teach me, for I am a human who has suffered and is mistaken.' So he said: 'Alright. When you stand for Salat then perform Wudu as Allah ordered you. Then say the Tashahhud, and the Iqamah as well. If you know any Quran then recite it, if not then praise Allah, mention His greatness, and the Tahlil. Then bow such that you are at rest in your bowing, then stand completely, then prostrate completely, then sit such that you are at rest while sitting them stand. When you have done that, then you have completed your Salat, and if you leave out something, then you have made your Salat deficient.' And this was easier on them than the first matter, because if some of this was deficient, It would only reduce the reward of his Salat, it would not have gone entirely. "
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 2, Hadith 154
My father got me married to a lady of a noble family, and often used to ask my wife about me, and she
used to reply, "What a wonderful man he is! He never comes to my bed, nor has he approached me
since he married me." When this state continued for a long period, my father told the story to the
Prophet who said to my father, "Let me meet him." Then I met him and he asked me, "How do you
fast?" I replied, "I fast daily," He asked, "How long does it take you to finish the recitation of the
whole Qur'an?" I replied, "I finish it every night." On that he said, "Fast for three days every month
and recite the Qur'an (and finish it) in one month." I said, "But I have power to do more than that." He
said, "Then fast for three days per week." I said, "i have the power to do more than that." He said,
"Therefore, fast the most superior type of fasting, (that is, the fasting of (prophet) David who used to
fast every alternate day; and finish the recitation of the whole Qur'an In seven days." I wish I had
accepted the permission of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as I have become a weak old man. It is said that `Abdullah
used to recite one-seventh of the Qur'an during the day-time to some of his family members, for he
used to check his memorization of what he would recite at night during the daytime so that it would be
easier for him to read at night. And whenever he wanted to gain some strength, he used to give up
fasting for some days and count those days to fast for a similar period, for he disliked to leave those
things which he used to do during the lifetime of the Prophet.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 66, Hadith 77
Uyaynah ibn Hisn and Aqra' ibn Habis came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). They begged from him. He commanded to give them what they begged. He ordered Mu'awiyah to write a document to give what they begged. Aqra' took his document, wrapped it in his turban, and went away.
As for Uyaynah, he took his document and came to the Prophet (ﷺ) at his home, and said to him: Muhammad, do you see me? I am taking a document to my people, but I do not know what it contains, just like the document of al-Mutalammis. Mu'awiyah informed the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) of his statement.
Thereupon the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: He who begs (from people) when he has sufficient is simply asking for a large amount of Hell-fire. (An-Nufayl (a transmitter) said elsewhere: "embers of Hell".)
They asked: Messenger of Allah, what is a sufficiency? (Elsewhere an-Nufayl said: What is a sufficiency which makes begging unfitting?)
He replied: It is that which would provide a morning and an evening meal. (Elsewhere an-Nufayl said: It is when one has enough for a day and night, or for a night and a day.) He (an-Nufayl) narrated to us this tradition briefly in the words that I have mentioned.
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 9, Hadith 74
I came to `Aisha while she was praying, and said to her, "What has happened to the people?" She
pointed out towards the sky. (I looked towards the mosque), and saw the people offering the prayer.
Aisha said, "Subhan Allah." I said to her, "Is there a sign?" She nodded with her head meaning, "Yes."
I, too, then stood (for the prayer of eclipse) till I became (nearly) unconscious and later on I poured
water on my head. After the prayer, the Prophet (ﷺ) praised and glorified Allah and then said,
"Just now at this place I have seen what I have never seen before, including Paradise and Hell. No
doubt it has been inspired to me that you will be put to trials in your graves and these trials will be like
the trials of Masih-ad-Dajjal or nearly like it (the sub narrator is not sure which expression Asma'
used). You will be asked, 'What do you know about this man (the Prophet (ﷺ) Muhammad)?' Then the
faithful believer (or Asma' said a similar word) will reply, 'He is Muhammad Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) who had
come to us with clear evidences and guidance and so we accepted his teachings and followed him.
And he is Muhammad.' And he will repeat it thrice. Then the angels will say to him, 'Sleep in peace as
we have come to know that you were a faithful believer.' On the other hand, a hypocrite or a doubtful
person will reply, 'I do not know, but I heard the people saying something and so I said it.' (the same).
"
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 3, Hadith 28
"Whoever fasts Ramadan, performs the Salat, performs Hajj to the House" - I do not know whether he mentioned Zakat or not - "except that it is binding on Allah that He forgive him, whether he emigrated in the cause of Allah, or remained in his land in which he was born." Mu'adh said: "Should I not inform the people of this?" The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Leave the people to do deeds, for verily in Paradise there are a hundred levels, what is between every two levels is like what is between the heavens and the earth. Al-Firdaus is the highest of Paradise and its most expansive, and above that is the Throne of Ar-Rahman (the Most Merciful), and from it the rivers of Paradise are made to flow forth. So when you ask Allah, ask Him for Al-Firdaus."
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 38, Hadith 8
Yahya related to me from Malik from Ishaq ibn Abdullah ibn Abi
Talha from Abu Murra, the mawla of Aqil ibn Abi Talib from Abu Waqid
al-Laythi that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant
him peace, was sitting in the mosque with some people when three
people came in. Two came toward the Messenger of Allah, may Allah
bless him and grant him peace, and one went away. When the two stopped
at the assembly of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and
grant him peace, they gave the greeting. One of them saw a gap in the
circle and sat in it. The other sat down behind the circle. The third
turned away and left. When the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him
and grant him peace, finished, he said, "Shall I tell you about three
people? One of them sought shelter with Allah, so Allah gave him
shelter. The other was shy, so Allah was shy to him. The other turned
away, so Allah turned away from him."
Muwatta Malik Book 53, Hadith 4
"We set out with the Messenger of Allah for the Farewell Pligrimage and we entered Ihram for 'Umrah, then the Messenger of Allah said: 'Whoever has a Hadi with him, let him enter Ihram for both Hajj and 'Umrah, then do not exit Ihram until he exits Ihram for them both.' I came to Makkah and I had my menses, so I did not circumambulate the House or (Perform Sa'i) between As-Safa and Al-Marwah. I complained about that to the Messenger of Allah and he said: 'Undo your hair, and comb it, and enter Ihram for Hajj, and leave 'Umrah.' When I had completed Hajj, the Messenger of Allah sent me with 'Abdur-Rahman bin Abi Bakr to At-Tan'im, and I performed 'Umrah. He said: 'This is the place of your 'Umrah.' Then those who had entered Ihram for 'Umar circumambulated the House and (performed Sa'i) between As-Safa and Al-Marwah. Then they exited Ihram, then they performed Tawaf again, after they came back from Mina for their Hajj. As for those who combined Hajj and 'Umrah, they only performed one Tawaf."
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 24, Hadith 146
