"I prayed with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) one night. He started reciting Surat Al-Baqarah and he recited one hundred verses, then did not bow, rather he continued. I thought: 'He will complete it in two rak'ahs, but he continued.' I thought: 'He will complete it and then bow,' but he continued until he recited Surat An-Nisa', then Al Imran. Then he bowed for almost as long as he had stood, saying while bowing: 'Subhan Rabbial-azim, Subhan Rabbial-azim, Subhan Rabbial-azim ( Glory be to my Lord Almighty, Glory be to my Lord Almighty, Glory be to my Lord Almighty).' Then he raised his head and said: 'Sami Allahu liman hamidah (Allah hears the one who praises Him). Then he prostrated and made his prostration lengthy, saying: "Subhan Rabbial-A'la, Subhan Rabbial-A'la, Subhan Rabbial-A'la (Glory be to my Lord Most High, Glory be to my Lord Most High, Glory be to my Lord Most High). And he did not come to any verse that spoke of fear or glorifying Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, but he said something appropriate."
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 12, Hadith 105
“I used
to
guide my father after he lost his sight, and when I took him out
for
the Friday (prayer), when he heard the Adhan he would pray for
forgiveness for Abu Umamah As’ad bin Zurarah, and supplicate for
him.
I heard that from him for a while, then I said to myself: ‘By
Allah!
What is this weakness? Every time he heard the Adhan for
Friday
(prayer) I hear him praying for forgiveness for Abu Umamah and
supplicate for him, and I do not ask him about why he does that.’
Then
I took him out for Friday (prayer), as I used to take him out,
and
when he heard the Adhan he prayed for forgiveness as he used to
do. I
said to him: ‘O my father! I see you supplicating for As’ad
bin
Zurarah every time you hear the call for Friday; why is that?’
He
said: ‘O my son, he was the first one who led us for the Friday
prayer
before the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came from Makkah, in Naqi’
Al-
Khadamat (a place near Al-Madinah), in the plain of Harrah Banu
Bayadah.’ I asked: ‘How many of you were there at that time?’
He said:
‘Forty men.’”
Sunan Ibn Majah Book 5, Hadith 280
Anas bin Malik said, "A person entered the Mosque on a Friday through the gate facing the Daril-
Qada' and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was standing delivering the Khutba (sermon). The man stood in front of
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and said, 'O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), livestock are dying and the roads are cut off; please pray
to Allah for rain.' So Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) (p.b.u.h) raised both his hands and said, 'O Allah! Bless us with
rain. O Allah! Bless us with rain. O Allah! Bless us with rain!" Anas added, "By Allah, there were no
clouds in the sky and there was no house or building between us and the mountain of Sila'. Then a big
cloud like a shield appeared from behind it (i.e. Silas Mountain) and when it came in the middle of the
sky, it spread and then rained. By Allah! We could not see the sun for a week. The next Friday, a
person entered through the same gate and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was delivering the Friday Khutba and the
man stood in front of him and said, 'O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! The livestock are dying and the roads are cut
off; Please pray to Allah to withhold rain.' " Anas added, "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) raised both his hands and
said, 'O Allah! Round about us and not on us. O Allah!' On the plateaus, on the mountains, on the
hills, in the valleys and on the places where trees grow.' " Anas added, "The rain stopped and we came
out, walking in the sun." Sharik asked Anas whether it was the same person who had asked for rain
the previous Friday. Anas replied that he did not know.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 15, Hadith 9
While we were on one of our journeys, we dismounted at a place where a slave girl came and said,
"The chief of this tribe has been stung by a scorpion and our men are not present; is there anybody
among you who can treat him (by reciting something)?" Then one of our men went along with her
though we did not think that he knew any such treatment. But he treated the chief by reciting
something, and the sick man recovered whereupon he gave him thirty sheep and gave us milk to drink
(as a reward). When he returned, we asked our friend, "Did you know how to treat with the recitation
of something?" He said, "No, but I treated him only with the recitation of the Mother of the Book (i.e.,
Al-Fatiha)." We said, "Do not say anything (about it) till we reach or ask the Prophet (ﷺ) so when we
reached Medina, we mentioned that to the Prophet (in order to know whether the sheep which we had
taken were lawful to take or not). The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "How did he come to know that it (Al-Fatiha)
could be used for treatment? Distribute your reward and assign for me one share thereof as well."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 66, Hadith 29
Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi', the mawla of Abdullah ibn Umar, that Umar ibn al-Khattab wrote to his governors
saying, "The most important of your affairs in my view is the prayer.
Whoever protects it and observes it carefully is protecting his deen,
while whoever is negligent about it will be even more negligent about
other things." Then he added, "Pray dhuhr any time from when the
afternoon shade is the length of your forearm until the length of your
shadow matches your height. Pray asr when the sun is still pure white,
so that a rider can travel two or three farsakhs before the sun sets.
Pray maghrib when the sun has set. Pray isha any time from when the
redness in the western sky has disappeared until a third of the night
has passed - and a person who sleeps, may he have no rest, a person
who sleeps, may he have no rest. And pray subh when all the stars are
visible and like a haze in the sky."
Muwatta Malik Book 1, Hadith 6
A man came to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and said, "I am ruined!" The Prophet (ﷺ) said to him, "What is the
matter?" He said, "I have done a sexual relation with my wife (while fasting) in Ramadan." The
Prophet said to him?" "Can you afford to manumit a slave?" He said, "No." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Can
you fast for two successive months?" He said, "No." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Can you feed sixty poor
persons?" He said, "No." Then an Ansari man came with an Irq (a big basket full of dates). The
Prophet said (to the man), "Take this (basket) and give it in charity." That man said, "To poorer people
than we, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)? By Him Who has sent you with the Truth! There is no house in between
the two mountains (of the city of Medina) poorer than we." So the Prophet (ﷺ) said (to him), "Go and feed
it to your family."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 84, Hadith 3
Yahya related to me from Malik that he heard Ibn Shihab say that
if a man said to his wife, "You are free of me, and I am free of you,
" it counted as three pronouncements of divorce as if it were an
'irrevocable' divorce.
Malik said that if a man made any
strong statement such as these to his wife, it counted as three
pronouncements of divorce for a woman whose marriage had been
consummated, or it was written as one of three for a woman whose
marriage had not been consummated, whichever the man wished. If he
said he intended only one divorce he swore to it and he became one of
the suitors because, whereas a woman whose marriage had been
consummated was made inaccessible by three pronouncements of divorce,
the woman whose marriage had not been consummated was made
inaccessible by only one pronouncement.
Malik said, "That is
the best of what I have heard."
Muwatta Malik Book 29, Hadith 9
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) sent me (as a governor) to the land of my people, and I came while Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)
was encamping at a place called Al-Abtah. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Have you made the intention to
perform the Hajj, O `Abdullah bin Qais?" I replied, "Yes, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)!" He said, "What did you
say?" I replied, "I said, 'Labbaik' and expressed the same intention as yours." He said, "Have you
driven the Hadi along with you?" I replied, "No, I did not drive the Hadi." He said, "So perform the
Tawaf of the Ka`ba and then the Sai, between Safa and Marwa and then finish the state of Ihram." So
I did the same, and one of the women of (the tribe of) Banu-Qais combed my hair. We continued
follow in that tradition till the caliphate of `Umar.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 64, Hadith 373
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Tonight two (visitors) came to me (in my dream) and took me to a town built
with gold bricks and silver bricks. There we met men who, half of their bodies, look like the mosthandsome
human beings you have ever seen, and the other half, the ugliest human beings you have
ever seen. Those two visitors said to those men, 'Go and dip yourselves in that river. So they dipped
themselves therein and then came to us, their ugliness having disappeared and they were in the mosthandsome
shape. The visitors said, 'The first is the Garden of Eden and that is your dwelling place.'
Then they added, 'As for those people who were half ugly and half handsome, they were those who
mixed good deeds and bad deeds, but Allah forgave them."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 65, Hadith 196
`Abdullah bin Masud said, "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, 'Whoever takes an oath when asked to do so, in
which he may deprive a Muslim of his property unlawfully, will meet Allah Who will be angry with
him.' So Allah revealed in confirmation of this statement:--"Verily! Those who Purchase a small gain
at the cost of Allah's Covenant and oaths, they shall have no portion in the Hereafter..." (3.77) Then
entered Al-Ash'ath bin Qais and said, "What is Abu `Abdur-Rahman narrating to you?" We replied,
'So-and-so." Al-Ash'ath said, "This Verse was revealed in my connection. I had a well in the land of
my cousin (and he denied my, possessing it). On that the Prophet (ﷺ) said to me, 'Either you bring forward
a proof or he (i.e. your cousin) takes an oath (to confirm his claim)' I said, 'I am sure he would take a
(false) oath, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ).' He said, 'If somebody takes an oath when asked to do so through
which he may deprive a Muslim of his property (unlawfully) and he is a liar in his oath, he will meet
Allah Who will be angry with him.' "
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 65, Hadith 72
“A man stood up in front of Al-Hasan bin Ali, after he pledged to Mu’awiyah, so he said: ‘You have made fools of the believers.’ – or: ‘O you who has made fools of the believers’ – So he said: ‘Do not scold me so, may Allah have mercy upon you, for indeed the Prophet had a dream in which he saw Banu Umayyah upon his Minbar. That distressed him, so (the following) was revealed: Verily We have granted you Al-Kauthar (O Muhammad) meaning a river in Paradise, and (the following) was revealed: ‘Verily We have sent it down on the Night of Al-Qadr. And what will make you know what the Night of Al-Qadr is? The Night of Al-Qadr is better than a thousand months, in which Banu Umayyah rules after you O Muhammad.” Al-Qasim said: “So we counted them, and found that they were one-thousand months, not a day more nor less.”
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 47, Hadith 402
`Urwa said, "Aisha told me that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to examine the women
emigrants. We have been told also that when Allah revealed the order that the Muslims should return
to the pagans what they had spent on their wives who emigrated (after embracing Islam) and that the
Muslims should not keep unbelieving women as their wives, `Umar divorced two of his wives,
Qariba, the daughter of Abu Umayyah and the daughter of Jarwal Al-Khuza`i. Later on Mu`awiya
married Qariba and Abu Jahm married the other."
When the pagans refused to pay what the Muslims had spent on their wives, Allah revealed: "And if
any of your wives have gone from you to the unbelievers and you have an accession (by the coming
over of a woman from the other side) (then pay to those whose wives have gone) the equivalent of
what they had spent (on their Mahr)." (60.11)
So, Allah ordered that the Muslim whose wife has gone, should be given, as a compensation of the
Mahr he had given to his wife, from the Mahr of the wives of the pagans who had emigrated deserting
their husbands.
We do not know any of the women emigrants who deserted Islam after embracing it. We have also
been told that Abu Basir bin Asid Ath-Thaqafi came to the Prophet (ﷺ) as a Muslim emigrant during the
truce. Al-Akhnas bin Shariq wrote to the Prophet (ﷺ) requesting him to return Abu Basir.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 54, Hadith 20
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went to the tribe of Bani Amr b. Auf in order to bring reconciliation amongst (its members), and It was a time of prayer. The Mu'adhdhin came to Abu Bakr and said: Would you lead the prayer in case I recite takbir (tahrima, with which the prayer begins)? He (Abu Bakr) said: Yes. He (the narrator) said: He (Abu Bakr) started (leading) the prayer. The people were engaged in observing prayer when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) happened to come there and made his way (through the people) till he stood in a row. The people began to clap (their hands), but Abu Bakr paid no heed (to it) in prayer. When the people clapped more vigorously, he (Abu Bakr) then paid heed and saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) there. (He was about to withdraw when) the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) signed to him to keep standing at his place. Abu Bakr lifted his hands and praised Allah for what the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had commanded him and then Abu Bakr withdrew himself till he stood in the midst of the row and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stepped forward and led the prayer. When (the prayer) was over, he (the Holy Prophet) said: 0 Abu Bakr, what prevented you from standing (at that place) as I ordered you to do? Abu Bakr said: It does not become the son of Abu Quhafa to lead prayer before the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said (to the people) around him: What is it that I saw you clapping so vigorously? (Behold) when anything happens in prayer, say: Subha Allah, for when you would utter it, it would attract the attention, while clapping of hands is meant for women.
