That a man came to him (while two groups of Muslims were fighting) and said, "O Abu `Abdur
Rahman! Don't you hear what Allah has mentioned in His Book:
'And if two groups of believers fight against each other...' (49.9)
So what prevents you from fighting as Allah has mentioned in His Book?"' Ibn `Umar said, "O son of
my brother! I would rather be blamed for not fighting because of this Verse than to be blamed because
of another Verse where Allah says:
'And whoever kills a believer intentionally..." (4.93) Then that man said, "Allah says:-- 'And fight
them until there is no more afflictions (worshipping other besides Allah) and the religion (i.e.
worship) will be all for Allah (Alone)" (8.39) Ibn `Umar said, "We did this during the lifetime of
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) when the number of Muslims was small, and a man was put to trial because of his
religion, the pagans would either kill or chain him; but when the Muslims increased (and Islam
spread), there was no persecution." When that man saw that Ibn `Umar did not agree to his proposal,
he said, "What is your opinion regarding `Ali and `Uthman?" Ibn `Umar said, "What is my opinion
regarding `Ali and `Uthman? As for `Uthman, Allah forgave him and you disliked to forgive him, and
`Ali is the cousin and son-in-law of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ." Then he pointed out with his hand and said,
"And that is his daughter's (house) which you can see."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 65, Hadith 172
Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said that Bukayr
ibn Abdullah al-Ashajj informed him that Muawiya ibn Abi Ayyash al-
Ansari told him that he was sitting with Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr and
Asim ibn Umar ibn al-Khattab when Muhammad ibn Iyas ibn al-Bukayr came
up to them and said, "A man from the desert has divorced his wife
three times before consummating the marriage, what do you think?"
Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr said "This is something about which we have no
statement. Go to Abdullah ibn Abbas and Abu Hurayra. I left them with
A'isha. Ask them and then come and tell us." He went and asked them.
Ibn Abbas said to Abu Hurayra, "Give an opinion, Abu Hurayra! A
difficult one has come to you." Abu Hurayra said, "One pronouncement
separates her and three makes her haram until she has married another
husband." Ibn Abbas said the like of that.
Malik said, "That
is what is done among us, and when a man marries a woman who has been
married before, and he has not had intercourse with her, she is
treated as a virgin - one pronouncement separates her and three make
her haram until she has married another husband."
Muwatta Malik Book 29, Hadith 43
‘Ali bin Abi Talib said “I had an old she Camel that I got as my share from the booty on the day of Badr. The Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) also gave me an old she camel from the fifth that day. When I intended to cohabit with Fathimah daughter of the Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ), I made arrangement with a man who was a goldsmith belonging to Banu Qainuqa’ to go with me so that we may bring grass. I intended to sell it to the goldsmith there by seeking help in my wedding feast. While I was collecting for my old Camels saddles, baskets and ropes both of she Camels were seated in a corner of the apartment of a man of the Ansar. When I collected what I collected (i.e., equipment) I turned (towards them). I suddenly found that the humps of she Camels were cut off and their hips were pierced and their lives were taken out. I could not control my eyes (to weep) when I saw that scene. I said “Who has done this?” They (the people) replied “Hamzah bin ‘Abd Al Muttalib”. He is among the drunkards of the Ansar in this house. A singing girl is singing for him and his Companions. While singing she said “Oh Hamza, rise to these plumpy old she Camels. So he jumped to the sword and cut off their humps, pierced their hips and took out their livers.” ‘Ali said “I went till I entered upon the Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) while Zaid bin Harithah was with him.” The Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) realized what I had met with. The Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) aid “What is the matter with you?” I said Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ), I never saw the thing that happened with me today. Hamzah wronged my she Camels, he cut off their humps, pierced their hips. Lo! He is in a house with drunkards. The Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) asked for his cloak. It was brought to him. He then went out, I and Zaid bin Harithah followed him until we reached the house where Hamzah was. He asked permission ( to entre). He was permitted. He found drunkards there. The Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) began to rebuke him (Hamzah) for his action. Hamzah was intoxicated and his eyes were reddish. Hamzah looked at the Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ). He then raised his eyes and looked at his knees, he then raised his eyes and looked at his navel and he then raised his eyes and looked at his face. Hamzah then said “Are you but the salves of my father? Then the Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) knew that he was intoxicated. So the Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) moved backward. He then went out and we also went out with him.”
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 20, Hadith 59
"I attended the prayer with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) on the day of 'Eid. He started with the prayer before the Khutbah, with no Adhan and no Iqamah. When he finished the prayer, he stood leaning on Bilal, and he praised and glorified Allah (SWT) and exhorted the people, reminding them and urging them to obey Allah (SWT). Then he moved away and went to the women, and Bilal was with him. He commanded them to fear Allah (SWT) and exhorted them and reminded them. He praised and glorified Allah, then he urged them to obey Allah, then he said: 'Give charity, for most of you are the fuel of Hell.' A lowly woman with dark cheeks said: 'Why, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'You complain a great deal and are ungrateful to your husbands.' They started taking off their necklaces, earrings and rings, throwing them into Bilal's garment, giving them in charity."
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 19, Hadith 20
A man came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, "I have been ruined for I have had sexual relation with my wife
in Ramadan (while I was fasting)" The Prophet (ﷺ) said (to him), "Manumit a slave." The man said, " I
cannot afford that." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "(Then) fast for two successive months continuously". The man
said, "I cannot do that." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "(Then) feed sixty poor persons." The man said, "I have
nothing (to feed them with)." Then a big basket full of dates was brought to the Prophet. The Prophet (ﷺ)
said, "Where is the questioner? Go and give this in charity." The man said, "(Shall I give this in
charity) to a poorer person than l? By Allah, there is no family in between these two mountains (of
Medina) who are poorer than we." The Prophet (ﷺ) then smiled till his premolar teeth became visible, and
said, "Then (feed) your (family with it).
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 78, Hadith 115
Yahya related to me from Malik that Yahya ibn Said heard Muhammad
ibn Yahya ibn Habban mentioning that a certain man passed Abu Dharr at
ar-Rabadha (which was about 30 miles from Madina) and Abu Dharr asked
him, "Where are you heading to?" and he replied, "I am intending to do
hajj." Abu Dharr questioned, "Has anything else brought you out?" and
he said, "No," so Abu Dharr said "Resume what you are doing
wholeheartedly."
The man related, "I went on till I came to
Makka and I stayed as long as Allah willed. Suddenly, one time, I was
with a crowd of people thronging about a man and I pushed through the
people to him and it was the old man that I had come across at ar-
Rabadha. When he saw me, he recognized me and said, 'Ah, you have done
what I told you.' "
Muwatta Malik Book 20, Hadith 264
We were in Siffin and Sahl bin Hunaif got up and said, "O people! Blame yourselves! We were with
the Prophet (ﷺ) on the day of Hudaibiya, and if we had been called to fight, we would have fought. But
`Umar bin Al Khatab came and said, 'O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Aren't we in the right and our opponents in
the wrongs' Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, 'Yes.' `Umar said, 'Aren't our killed persons in Paradise and their's in
Hell?' He said, 'Yes.' `Umar said, 'Then why should we accept hard terms in matters concerning our
religion? Shall we return before Allah judges between us and them?' Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, 'O Ibn Al-
Khattab! I am the Messenger of Allah and Allah will never degrade me. Then `Umar went to Abu Bakr
and told him the same as he had told the Prophet.
On that Abu Bakr said (to `Umar). 'He is the Messenger of Allah and Allah will never degrade him.' Then
Surat-al-Fath (i.e. Victory) was revealed and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) recited it to the end in front of `Umar.
On that `Umar asked, 'O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Was it (i.e. the Hudaibiya Treaty) a victory?' Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)
said, "Yes".
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 58, Hadith 24
There is no transitive disease, but he is also reported to have said: A sick person should not be taken to one who is healthy. Abu Salama said that Abu Huraira used to narrate these two (different ahadith) from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), but afterwards Abu Huraira became silent on these words:" There is no transitive disease," but he stuck to this that the sick person should not be taken to one who is healthy. Harith b. Abu Dhubab (and he was the first cousin of Abu Huraira) said: Abu Huraira, I used to hear from you that you narrated to us along with this hadith and the other one also (there is no transitive disease), but now you observe silence about it. You used to say that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: There is no transitive disease. Abu Huraira denied having any knowledge of that, but he said that the sick camel should not be taken to the healthy one. Harith, however, did not agree with him, which irritated Abu Huraira and he said to him some words in the Abyssinian language. He said to Harith: Do you know what I said to you? He said: No. Abu Huraira said: I simply denied having said it. Abu Salama sad: By my life, Abu Huraira in fact used to report Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) having said: There is no transitive disease. I do not know whether Abu Huraira has forgotten it or he deemed it an abrogated statement in the light of the other one.
Sahih Muslim Book 39, Hadith 143
"I said: 'O Messenger of Allah! How is Wudu' done?' He said: 'As for Wudu', when you perform Wudu', and you wash your hands to clean them, your sins come out from between your fingers and fingertips. When you rinse your mouth and nostrils, and wash your face and hands up to the elbows, and wipe your head, and wash your feet up to the ankles, you are cleansed of all your sins. When you prostrate your face to Allah, may He be exalted, you emerge from your sins like the day your mother bore you.'" Abu Umamah said: "I said: 'O 'Amr bin 'Abasah! Look at what you are saying! Was all of that given in one sitting? He said: 'By Allah, I have grown old, my appointed time is near and I am not so poor that I should tell lies about the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). I heard it with my own ears and understood it in my heart from the Messenger of Allah.'"
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 1, Hadith 148

Another chain that Ibn `Abbas narrated: “When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stood during the night for Tahajjud,” and he mentioned something similar.
Sunan Ibn Majah Book 5, Hadith 553
Sa'id ibn Jubayr said: I said to Abdullah ibn Abbas: AbulAbbas, I am surprised to see the difference of opinion amongst the companions of the Apostle (ﷺ) about the wearing of ihram by the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) when he made it obligatory.
He replied: I am aware of it more than the people. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) performed only one hajj. Hence the people differed among themselves. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came out (from Medina) with the intention of performing hajj. When he offered two rak'ahs of prayer in the mosque at Dhul-Hulayfah, he made it obligatory by wearing it.
At the same meeting, he raised his voice in the talbiyah for hajj, when he finished his two rak'ahs. Some people heard it and I retained it from him. He then rode (on the she-camel), and when it (the she-camel) stood up, with him on its back, he raised his voice in the talbiyah and some people heard it at that moment. This is because the people were coming in groups, so they heard him raising his voice calling the talbiyah when his she-camel stood up with him on its back, and they thought that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had raised his voice in the talbiyah when his she-camel stood up with him on its back.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) proceeded further; when he ascended the height of al-Bayda' he raised his voice in the talbiyah. Some people heard it at that moment. They thought that he had raised his voice in the talbiyah when he ascended the height of al-Bayda'. I swear by Allah, he raised his voice in the talbiyah at the place where he prayed, and he raised his voice in the talbiyah when his she-camel stood up with him on its back, and he raised his voice in the talbiyah when he ascended the height of al-Bayda'.
Sa'id (ibn Jubayr) said; He who follows the view of Ibn Abbas raises his voice in talbiyah (and ihram) at the place of is prayer after he finishes two rak'ahs of his prayer.
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 11, Hadith 50
Abu `Abdur-Rahman who was one of the supporters of `Uthman said to Abu Talha who was one of
the supporters of `Ali, "I perfectly know what encouraged your leader (i.e. `Ali) to shed blood. I heard
him saying: Once the Prophet (ﷺ) sent me and Az-Zubair saying, 'Proceed to such-and-such Ar-Roudah
(place) where you will find a lady whom Hatib has given a letter. So when we arrived at Ar-Roudah,
we requested the lady to hand over the letter to us. She said, 'Hatib has not given me any letter.' We
said to her. 'Take out the letter or else we will strip off your clothes.' So she took it out of her braid. So
the Prophet (ﷺ) sent for Hatib, (who came) and said, 'Don't hurry in judging me, for, by Allah, I have not
become a disbeliever, and my love to Islam is increasing. (The reason for writing this letter was) that
there is none of your companions but has relatives in Mecca who look after their families and
property, while I have nobody there, so I wanted to do them some favor (so that they might look after
my family and property).' The Prophet (ﷺ) believed him. `Umar said, 'Allow me to chop off his (i.e.
Hatib's) neck as he has done hypocrisy.' The Prophet (ﷺ) said, (to `Umar), 'Who knows, perhaps Allah has
looked at the warriors of Badr and said (to them), 'Do whatever you like, for I have forgiven you.' "
`Abdur-Rahman added, "So this is what encouraged him (i.e. `Ali).
