his father said: "The Messenger of Allah (saas) said: Allahumma Anta Rabbi la ilaha illa Anta, khalaqtani wa ana 'abduka wa ana 'ala 'ahdika wa wa'dika mastata'tu. A'udhu bika min sharri ma sana'tu, abu'u bi ni'matika wa abu'u bi dhanbi faghfirli, fa innahu la yaghfirudh-dhunuba illa Anta (O Allah, You are my Lord, there is none worthy of worship except You. You have created me and I am Your slave, and I am adhering to Your covenant and Your promise as much as I can. I seek refuge with You from the evil of what I do. I acknowledge Your blessing and I acknowledge my sin, so forgive me, for there is none who can forgive sin except You)."He said: "The Messenger of Allah (saas) said: 'Whoever says this by day and by night, if he dies that day or that night, he will enter Paradise if Allah wills."
Sunan Ibn Majah Book 34, Hadith 46
The delegates of `Abdul Qais came to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and said, "The pagans of the tribe of Mudar
intervene between you and us therefore we cannot come to you except in the Holy months. So please
order us to do something good (Religious deeds) by which we may enter Paradise (by acting on them)
and we may inform our people whom we have left behind to observe it." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "I order
you to do four things and forbid you from four things: I order you to believe in Allah. Do you know
what is meant by belief in Allah? It is to testify that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah,
to offer prayers perfectly, to give Zakat, and to give Al-Khumus (one-fifth of the war booty) (in
Allah's Cause). And I forbid you four things, (i.e., Do not drink alcoholic drinks) Ad-Dubba, An-
Naqir, (pitched water skins), Az-Zuruf, Al-Muzaffat and Al--Hantam (names of utensils used for the
preparation of alcoholic drinks)." (See Hadith No. 50, Vol. 1)
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 97, Hadith 181
Yahya related to me from Malik from Salih ibn Kaysan from
Ubaydullah ibn Abdullah ibn Utba ibn Masud that Zayd ibn Khalid al-
Juhani said, "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant
him peace, took the subh prayer with us at Hudaybiyya after it had
rained in the night. When he had finished he went up to the people and
said, 'Do you know what your Lord has said?' They said, 'Allah and His
Messenger know best.' He said, 'Some of my slaves have begun the
morning believing in Me, and others have begun it rejecting Me. As for
those who say, 'We were rained on by the overflowing favour of Allah
and His mercy,' they believe in Me and reject the stars. But as for
those who say, 'We were rained on by such and such a star, they reject
Me and believe in the stars.' "
Muwatta Malik Book 13, Hadith 4
“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) slept near me one day,
then he woke up smiling. I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, what has
made
you smile?’ He said: ‘People of my nation who were shown to
me (in my
dream) riding across this sea like kings on thrones.’ I
said:
‘Supplicate to Allah to make me one of them.’” So he
prayed for her.
Then he slept again, and did likewise, and she said
the same as she
said before, and he replied in the same manner. She
said: “Pray to
Allah to make me one of them,” and he said: “You
will be one of the
first ones.” He said: “Then she went out with
her husband, ‘Ubadah bin
Samit, as a fighter, the first time that
the Muslims crossed the sea
with Mu’awiyah bin Abu Sufyan. On their
way back, after they had
finished fighting, they stopped in Sham. An
animal was brought near
for her to ride it, but it threw her off, and
she died.”
Sunan Ibn Majah Book 24, Hadith 24
that his father said, "I participated in Al-Usra (i.e. Tabuk) along with the Prophet." Ya`la added, "(My
participation in) that Ghazwa was the best of my deeds to me." Ya`la said, "I had a laborer who
quarrelled with somebody, and one of the two bit the hand of the other (`Ata', the sub-narrator, said,
"Safwan told me who bit whom but I forgot it"), and the one who was bitten, pulled his hand out of
the mouth of the biter, so one of the incisors of the biter was broken. So we came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and
he considered the biter's claim as invalid (i.e. the biter did not get a recompense for his broken
incisor). The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Should he leave his hand in your mouth so that you might snap it as if it
were in the mouth of a male camel to snap it?"
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 64, Hadith 439
"When (the following) was revealed: 'Alif Lam Mim. The Romans have been defeated. In the nearest land, and they, after their defeat, will be victorious in Bid' years (30:1-4).' - on the day that these Ayat were revealed, the Persians had defeated the Romans, and the Muslims had wanted the Romans to be victorious over them, because they were the people of the Book. So Allah said about that: 'And on that day, the believers will rejoice - with the help of Allah. He helps whom He wills, and He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful (30:4 & 5). The Quraish wanted the Persians to be victorious since they were not people of the Book, nor did they believe in the Resurrection. So when Allah revealed these Ayat, Abu Bakr As-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, went out, proclaiming throughout Makkah: 'Alif Lam Mim. The Romans have been defeated. In the nearest land, and they, after their defeat, will be victorious, in Bid' years (30:1-4).' Some of the Quraish said: 'Then this is (a bet) between us and you. Your companion claims that the Romans will defeat the Persians in Bid' years, so why have have a bet on that between us and you?' Abu Bakr said: 'Yes.' This was before betting has been forbidden. So Abu Bakr and the idolaters made a bet, and they said to Abu Bakr: 'What do you think - Bid' means something between three and nine years, so let us agree on the middle.' So they agreed on six years; Then six years passed without the Romans being victorious. The idolaters took what they won in the bet from Abu Bakr. When the seventh year came and the Romans were finally victorious over the Persians, the Muslims rebuked Abu Bakr for agreeing to six years. He said: 'Because Allah said: 'In Bid' years.' At that time, many people became Muslims."
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 47, Hadith 246
Messenger of Allah, verily ours is a tribe of Rabi'a and there stand between you and us the unbelievers of Mudar and we find no freedom to come to you except in the sacred month. Direct us to an act which we should ourselves perform and invite those who live beside us. Upon this the Prophet remarked: I command you to do four things and prohibit you against four acts. (The four deeds which you are commanded to do are): Faith in Allah, and then he explained it for them and said: Testifying the fact. that there is no god but Allah, that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, performance of prayer, payment of Zakat, that you pay Khums (one-fifth) of the booty fallen to your lot, and I prohibit you to use round gourd, wine jars, wooden pots or skins for wine. Khalaf b. Hisham has made this addition in his narration: Testifying the fact that there is no god but Allah, and then he with his finger pointed out the oneness of the Lord.
Sahih Muslim Book 1, Hadith 23
I was a Christian Bedouin; then I embraced Islam. I came to a man of my tribe, who was called Hudhaym ibn Thurmulah. I said to him. O brother, I am eager to wage war in the cause of Allah (i.e. jihad), and I find that both hajj and umrah are due from me. How can I combine them?
He said: Combine them and sacrifice the animal made easily available for you. I, therefore, raised my voice in talbiyah for both of them (i.e. umrah and hajj). When I reached al-Udhayb, Salman ibn Rabi'ah and Zayd ibn Suhan met me while I was raising my voice in talbiyah for both of them.
One of them said to the other: This (man) does not have any more understanding than his camel. Thereupon it was as if a mountain fell on me.
I came to Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) and said to him: Commander of the Faithful, I was a Christian Bedouin, and I have embraced Islam. I am eager to wage war in the cause of Allah (jihad), and I found that both hajj and umrah were due from me. I came to a man of my tribe who said to me: Combine both of them and sacrifice the animal easily available for you. I have raised my voice in talbiyah for both of them.
Umar thereupon said to me: You have been guided to the practice (sunnah) of your Prophet) (ﷺ).
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 11, Hadith 79
I had been eager to ask `Umar about the two ladies from among the wives of the Prophet (ﷺ) regarding
whom Allah said (in the Qur'an saying): If you two (wives of the Prophet (ﷺ) namely Aisha and Hafsa)
turn in repentance to Allah your hearts are indeed so inclined (to oppose what the Prophet (ﷺ) likes)
(66.4), till performed the Hajj along with `Umar (and on our way back from Hajj) he went aside (to
answer the call of nature) and I also went aside along with him carrying a tumbler of water. When he
had answered the call of nature and returned. I poured water on his hands from the tumbler and he
performed ablution. I said, "O Chief of the believers! ' Who were the two ladies from among the wives
of the Prophet (ﷺ) to whom Allah said:
'If you two return in repentance (66.4)? He said, "I am astonished at your question, O Ibn `Abbas.
They were Aisha and Hafsa."
Then `Umar went on relating the narration and said. "I and an Ansari neighbor of mine from Bani
Umaiya bin Zaid who used to live in `Awali Al-Medina, used to visit the Prophet (ﷺ) in turns. He used to
go one day, and I another day. When I went I would bring him the news of what had happened that
day regarding the instructions and orders and when he went, he used to do the same for me. We, the
people of Quraish, used to have authority over women, but when we came to live with the Ansar, we
noticed that the Ansari women had the upper hand over their men, so our women started acquiring the
habits of the Ansari women. Once I shouted at my wife and she paid me back in my coin and I
disliked that she should answer me back. She said, 'Why do you take it ill that I retort upon you? By
Allah, the wives of the Prophet (ﷺ) retort upon him, and some of them may not speak with him for the
whole day till night.' What she said scared me and I said to her, 'Whoever amongst them does so, will
be a great loser.' Then I dressed myself and went to Hafsa and asked her, 'Does any of you keep
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) angry all the day long till night?' She replied in the affirmative. I said, 'She is a ruined
losing person (and will never have success)! Doesn't she fear that Allah may get angry for the anger of
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and thus she will be ruined? Don't ask Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) too many things, and don't
retort upon him in any case, and don't desert him. Demand from me whatever you like, and don't be
tempted to imitate your neighbor (i.e. `Aisha) in her behavior towards the Prophet), for she (i.e. Aisha)
is more beautiful than you, and more beloved to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ).
In those days it was rumored that Ghassan, (a tribe living in Sham) was getting prepared their horses
to invade us. My companion went (to the Prophet (ﷺ) on the day of his turn, went and returned to us at
night and knocked at my door violently, asking whether I was sleeping. I was scared (by the hard
knocking) and came out to him. He said that a great thing had happened. I asked him: What is it?
Have Ghassan come? He replied that it was worse and more serious than that, and added that Allah's
Apostle had divorced all his wives. I said, Hafsa is a ruined loser! I expected that would happen some
day.' So I dressed myself and offered the Fajr prayer with the Prophet. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) entered an
upper room and stayed there alone. I went to Hafsa and found her weeping. I asked her, 'Why are you
weeping? Didn't I warn you? Have Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) divorced you all?' She replied, 'I don't know. He is
there in the upper room.' I then went out and came to the pulpit and found a group of people around it
and some of them were weeping.
Then I sat with them for some time, but could not endure the situation. So I went to the upper room
where the Prophet (ﷺ) was and requested to a black slave of his: "Will you get the permission of (Allah's
Apostle) for `Umar (to enter)? The slave went in, talked to the Prophet (ﷺ) about it and came out saying, 'I
mentioned you to him but he did not reply.' So, I went and sat with the people who were sitting by the
pulpit, but I could not bear the situation, so I went to the slave again and said: "Will you get he
permission for `Umar? He went in and brought the same reply as before. When I was leaving, behold,
the slave called me saying, "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) has granted you permission." So, I entered upon the
Prophet and saw him lying on a mat without wedding on it, and the mat had left its mark on the body
of the Prophet, and he was leaning on a leather pillow stuffed with palm fires. I greeted him and while
still standing, I said: "Have you divorced your wives?' He raised his eyes to me and replied in the
negative.
And then while still standing, I said chatting: "Will you heed what I say, 'O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! We, the
people of Quraish used to have the upper hand over our women (wives), and when we came to the
people whose women had the upper hand over them..."
`Umar told the whole story (about his wife). "On that the Prophet (ﷺ) smiled." `Umar further said, "I then
said, 'I went to Hafsa and said to her: Do not be tempted to imitate your companion (`Aisha) for she is
more beautiful than you and more beloved to the Prophet.' The Prophet (ﷺ) smiled again. When I saw him
smiling, I sat down and cast a glance at the room, and by Allah, I couldn't see anything of importance
but three hides. I said (to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)) "Invoke Allah to make your followers prosperous for the
Persians and the Byzantines have been made prosperous and given worldly luxuries, though they do
not worship Allah?' The Prophet (ﷺ) was leaning then (and on hearing my speech he sat straight) and said,
'O Ibn Al-Khattab! Do you have any doubt (that the Hereafter is better than this world)? These people
have been given rewards of their good deeds in this world only.' I asked the Prophet (ﷺ) . 'Please ask
Allah's forgiveness for me.
The Prophet (ﷺ) did not go to his wives because of the secret which Hafsa had disclosed to `Aisha, and he
said that he would not go to his wives for one month as he was angry with them when Allah
admonished him (for his oath that he would not approach Maria). When twenty-nine days had passed,
the Prophet (ﷺ) went to Aisha first of all. She said to him, 'You took an oath that you would not come to
us for one month, and today only twenty-nine days have passed, as I have been counting them day by
day.' The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'The month is also of twenty-nine days.' That month consisted of twenty-nine
days. `Aisha said, 'When the Divine revelation of Choice was revealed, the Prophet (ﷺ) started with me,
saying to me, 'I am telling you something, but you need not hurry to give the reply till you can consult
your parents." `Aisha knew that her parents would not advise her to part with the Prophet (ﷺ) .
The Prophet (ﷺ) said that Allah had said: 'O Prophet! Say To your wives; If you desire The life of this
world And its glitter, ... then come! I will make a provision for you and set you free In a handsome
manner. But if you seek Allah And His Apostle, and The Home of the Hereafter, then Verily, Allah
has prepared For the good-doers amongst you A great reward.' (33.28) `Aisha said, 'Am I to consult
my parents about this? I indeed prefer Allah, His Apostle, and the Home of the Hereafter.' After that
the Prophet (ﷺ) gave the choice to his other wives and they also gave the same reply as `Aisha did."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 46, Hadith 29
By Allah, if we had sent these two young boys (i. e. I and Fadl b. 'Abbas) to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and they had spoken to him, he would have appointed them (as the collectors) of these sadaqat; and they would (collect them) and pay (to the Holy Prophet) as other people (collectors) paid and would get a share as other people got it. As they were talking about it there came 'Ali b. Abu Talib and stood before them, and they made a mention of it to him. 'Ali b. Abu Talib said: Don't do that; by Allah he (the Holy Prophet) would not do that (would not accept your request). Rabi'a b. Harith turned to him and said: By Allah, you are not doing so but out of jealousy that you nurse against us By Allah, you became the son-in-law of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) but we felt no jealousy against you (for this great privilege of yours). 'Ali then said: Send them (if you like). They set out and 'Ali lay on the bed. When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) offered the noon prayer. we went ahead of him to his apartment and stood near it till he came out. He took hold of our ears (out of love and affection) and then said: Give out what you have kept in your hearts. He then entered (the apartment) and we also went in and he (the Holy Prophet) was on that day (in the house of) Zainab b. jahsh. We urged each (of us) to speak. Then one of us thus spoke: Messenger of Allah, you are the best of humanity and the best to cement the ties of blood-relations. We have reached the-marriageable age. We have come (to you) so that you may appoint us (as collectors) of these sadaqat. and we would pay you just as thin people (other collectors) pay you, and get our share as others get it. He (the Holy Prophet) kept silence for a long time till we wished that we should speak with him (again), and Zainab pointied to us from behind the curtain not to talk (any more). He (the Holy Prophet) said; It does not become the family of Muhammad (to accept) sadaqat for they are the impurities of people. You call to me Mahmiya (and he was in charge of khums, i. e, of the one-fifth part that goes to the treasury out of the spoils of war), and Naufal b. Harith b. 'Abd al-Muttalib. They both came to him, and he (the Holy Prophet) said to Mahmiya: Marry your daughter to this young man (i. e. Fadl b. 'Abbas), and he married her to him And he said to Naufal b. Harith: Marry your daughter to this young man (i e. 'Abd al-Muttalib b. Rabi'a, the narrator of this hadith) and he married her to me, and he said to Mahmiya: Pay so much mahr on behalf of both of them from this khums Zuhri, however. said: He did not determine (the amount of mahr).
Sahih Muslim Book 12, Hadith 218
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "An Israeli man asked another Israeli to lend him
one thousand Dinars. The second man required witnesses. The former
replied, 'Allah is sufficient as a witness.' The second said, 'I want
a surety.' The former replied, 'Allah is sufficient as a surety.' The
second said, 'You are right,' and lent him the money for a certain
period. The debtor went across the sea. When he finished his job, he
searched for a conveyance so that he might reach in time for the
repayment of the debt, but he could not find any. So, he took a piece
of wood and made a hole in it, inserted in it one thousand Dinars and
a letter to the lender and then closed (i.e. sealed) the hole tightly.
He took the piece of wood to the sea and said. 'O Allah! You know well
that I took a loan of one thousand Dinars from so-and-so. He demanded
a surety from me but I told him that Allah's Guarantee was sufficient
and he accepted Your guarantee. He then asked for a witness and I told
him that Allah was sufficient as a Witness, and he accepted You as a
Witness. No doubt, I tried hard to find a conveyance so that I could
pay his money but could not find, so I hand over this money to You.'
Saying that, he threw the piece of wood into the sea till it went out
far into it, and then he went away. Meanwhile he started searching for
a conveyance in order to reach the creditor's country.
One day the lender came out of his house to see whether a ship had
arrived bringing his money, and all of a sudden he saw the piece of
wood in which his money had been deposited. He took it home to use for
fire. When he sawed it, he found his money and the letter inside it.
Shortly after that, the debtor came bringing one thousand Dinars to
him and said, 'By Allah, I had been trying hard to get a boat so that
I could bring you your money, but failed to get one before the one I
have come by.' The lender asked, 'Have you sent something to me?' The
debtor replied, 'I have told you I could not get a boat other than the
one I have come by.' The lender said, 'Allah has delivered on your
behalf the money you sent in the piece of wood. So, you may keep your
one thousand Dinars and depart guided on the right path.' "
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 39, Hadith 2
"The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was asked about fat, cheese, and furs, so he said: 'The lawful is what Allah made lawful in His Book, the unlawful is what Allah made unlawful in his Book, and what He was silent about; then it is among that for which He has pardoned.'"
There is something on this topic from Al-Mughirah, and this Hadith is Gharib, we do not know of it being Marfu' except from this route. Sufyan and others reported it from Sulaiman At-Taimi, from Abu 'Uthman, from Salman as his own saying. It is as if the Mawquf narration is more correct. I asked Al-Bukhari about this Hadith and he said: 'I do not think it is preserved. Sufyan reported it from Sulaiman At-Taimi from Abu 'Uthman, from Salman in Mawquf form.' Al-Bukhari said: "Saif bin Harun is Muqarib (Average) in Hadith, and as for Saif bin Muhammad from 'Asim, his narrations are left."
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 24, Hadith 7
Um Al-`Ala', an Ansari woman who gave the pledge of allegiance to the Prophet (ﷺ) said to me, "The
emigrants were distributed amongst us by drawing lots and we got in our share `Uthman bin Maz'un.
We made him stay with us in our house. Then he suffered from a disease which proved fatal when he
died and was given a bath and was shrouded in his clothes, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) came I said, 'May Allah be
merciful to you, O Abu As-Sa'ib! I testify that Allah has honored you'. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'How do you
know that Allah has honored him?' I replied, 'O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Let my father be sacrificed for you!
On whom else shall Allah bestow His honor?' The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'No doubt, death came to him. By
Allah, I too wish him good, but by Allah, I do not know what Allah will do with me though I am
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). ' By Allah, I never attested the piety of anyone after that."
Al-Laith also narrated as above.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 23, Hadith 6
"I was reclining in the presence of 'Aishah when she said: 'O Abu 'Aishah! There are three things, whoever speaks of one of them, then he has uttered one of the worst lies against Allah. Whoever claims that Muhammad saw his Lord. Then he has uttered one the worst lies against Allah, Allah says: No vision can grasp Him, but His grasp is over all vision, and He is the Most Subtle, Well-Acquainted with all things (6:103). It is not for any human being that Allah should speak to him unless (it be) by revelation or from behind a veil (42:51).' I was reclining so I sat up an said: 'O Mother of the Believers! Take your time with me and do not be hasty with me! Did Allah Most High not say: And indeed he saw him at a second descent (53:13). (And) 'And indeed he saw him in the clear horizon (81:23).' She said 'By Allah! I was the first who asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about this. He said: "That was only Jibril. I did not see him in the appearance he was created in except for these two times. I saw him descending from the heavens, and due to his tremendous size he filled what was between the heavens and the earth." "And whoever claimed that Muhammad hid anything that Allah revealed to him, then he uttered one of the worst lies against Allah. Allah says: O Messenger! Proclaim what has been sent down to you from your Lord (5:67)." "And whoever claimed that he (ﷺ) knew what would be tomorrow, then he has uttered one of the worst lies against Allah. Allah says: Say: 'None in the heavens and in the earth knows the unseen but Allah (27:65).'"
