He who alleviates the suffering of a brother out of the sufferings of the world, Allah would alleviate his suffering from the sufferings of the Day of Resurrection, and he who finds relief for one who is hard-pressed, Allah would make things easy for him in the Hereafter, and he who conceals (the faults) of a Muslim, Allah would conceal his faults in the world and in the Hereafter. Allah is at the back of a servant so long as the servant is at the back of his brother, and he who treads the path in search of knowledge, Allah would make that path easy, leading to Paradise for him and those persons who assemble in the house among the houses of Allah (mosques) and recite the Book of Allah and they learn and teach the Qur'an (among themselves) there would descend upon them tranquility and mercy would cover them and the angels would surround them and Allah mentions them in the presence of those near Him, and he who is slow-paced in doing good deeds, his (high) lineage does not make him go ahead.
Sahih Muslim Book 48, Hadith 48
"My wife and I stopped at Baqi Al-Gharqad, and my wife said to me: 'Go to the Messenger of Allah and ask him to give us something to eat. ' So I went to the Messenger of Allah and found a man with him asking him (for something), and the Messenger of Allah was saying: 'I do not have anything to give to you.' The man turned away angrily, saying: 'You only give to those you want. 'The Messenger of Allah said: 'He is angry with me because I did not have anything to give him. Whoever asks of you and he has an Uqiyah or its equivalent, then he has been too demanding in asking."' Al-Asadi said: I said: 'Our milch-camel is worth more than an Uqiyah, 'and an Uqiyah is forty Dirhams. "So I went back and did not ask him for anything. Then the Messenger of Allah got some barley and raisins after that, and he gave us a share of them, until Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, made us independent of means."
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 23, Hadith 162
A lady came to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! I have come to you to offer myself to
you." He raised his eyes and looked at her and then lowered his head. When the lady saw that he did
not make any decision, she sat down. On that, a man from his companions got up and said. "O Allah's
Apostle! If you are not in need of this woman, then marry her to me." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Do you
have anything to offer her?" He replied. "No, by Allah, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)!" The Prophet (ﷺ) said to him,
"Go to your family and see if you can find something.' The man went and returned, saying, "No, by
Allah, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! I have not found anything." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Try to find something, even
if it is an iron ring.'' He went again and returned, saying, "No, by Allah, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), not even
an iron ring, but I have this waist sheet of mine." The man had no upper garment, so he intended to
give her, half his waist sheet. So Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, ''What would she do with your waist sheet? If
you wear it, she will have nothing of it over her body, and if she wears it, you will have nothing over
your body." So that man sat for a long period and then got up, and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saw him going
away, so he ordered somebody to call him. When he came, the Prophet (ﷺ) asked him, " How much of the
Qur'an do you know?" He replied, "I know such Surat and such Surat and such Surat," and went on
counting it, The Prophet (ﷺ) asked him, "Can you recite it by heart?" he replied, "Yes." The Prophet (ﷺ) said,
"Go, I have married this lady to you for the amount of the Qur'an you know by heart."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 66, Hadith 52
"The people of As-Suffah were the guests of the people of Islam, they had nothing of people nor wealth to rely upon. And By Allah, the One Whom there is none worthy of worship besides Him – I would lay on the ground on my liver (side) due to hunger, And I would fasten a stone to my stomach out of hunger. One day I sat by the way that they (the Companions) use to come out through. Abu Bakr passed and so I asked him about an Ayah from Allah's Book, not asking him except that he might tell me to follow him (for something to eat). But he passed on without doing so. Then `Umar passed, so I asked him about an Ayah from Allah's Book, not asking him except that he might tell me to follow him. But he passed on without doing so. Then Abul-Qasim (s.a.w) passed, and he smiled when he saw me, and said: 'Abu Hurairah?' I said: 'I am here O Messenger of Allah!' He said: 'Come along.' He continued and I followed him, he entered his house, so I sought permission to enter, and he permitted me. He found a bowl of milk and said: 'Where did this milk come from?' It was said: 'It was a gift to us from so – and – so.' So the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: 'O Abu Hurairah' I said: 'I am here O Messenger of Allah!' He said: 'Go to the people of As-Suffah to invite them.' - Now, they were the guests of the people of Islam, they had nothing of people nor wealth to rely upon. Whenever some charity was brought to him, he would send it to them without using any of it. And when a gift was given to him (s.a.w), he would send for them to participate and share with him in it. I became upset about that, and I said (to myself): 'What good will this bowl be among the people of As-Suffah and I am the one bringing it to them?' Then he ordered me to circulate it among them (So I wondered) what of it would reach me from it, and I hoped that I would get from it what would satisfy me. But I would certainly not neglect to obey Allah and obey His Messenger, so I went to them and invited them. When they entered upon him they sat down. He said: 'Abu Hurairah, take the bowl and give it to them.' So I gave it to a man who drank his fill, then he gave it to another one, until it ended up with the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w), and all of the people had drank their fill. The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) took the bowl, put it on his hand, then raised his head. He smiled and said: 'Abu Hurairah, drink.' So I drank, then he said: 'Drink.' I kept drinking and he kept on saying, 'Drink.' Then I said: 'By the One Who sent you with the truth! I have no more space for it.' So he took the bowl and praised Allah, mentioned His Name and drank.'” (Sahih)
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 37, Hadith 63
My grandfather, Rafi` bin Khadij said, "We were in the valley of Dhul-Hulaifa of Tuhama in the
company of the Prophet (ﷺ) and had some camels and sheep (of the booty). The people hurried (in
slaughtering the animals) and put their meat in the pots and started cooking. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) came and
ordered them to upset the pots, and distributed the booty considering one camel as equal to ten sheep.
One of the camels fled and the people had only a few horses, so they got worried. (The camel was
chased and) a man slopped the camel by throwing an arrow at it. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, 'Some of these
animals are untamed like wild animals, so if anyone of them went out of your control, then you should
treat it as you have done now.' " My grandfather said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! We fear that we may meet
our enemy tomorrow and we have no knives, could we slaughter the animals with reeds?" The Prophet (ﷺ)
said, "Yes, or you can use what would make blood flow (slaughter) and you can eat what is
slaughtered and the Name of Allah is mentioned at the time of slaughtering. But don't use teeth or
fingernails (in slaughtering). I will tell you why, as for teeth, they are bones, and fingernails are used
by Ethiopians for slaughtering. (See Hadith 668)
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 47, Hadith 22
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) contracted marriage and he went to his wife. My mother Umm Sulaim prepared hais and placed it in an earthen vessel and said: Anas, take it to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and say: My mother has sent that to you and she offers greetings to you, and says that it is a humble gift for you on our behalf, Messenger of Allah. So I went along with it to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and said: My mother offers you salutations, and says that it is a humble gift for you on our behalf. He said: Place it here, and then said: Go and invite on my behalf so and so and anyone whom you meet, and he even named some persons. He (Anas) said: I invited whom he had named and whom I met. I (one of the narrators) said: I said to Anas: How many (persons) were there? He (Anas) said: They were about three hundred persons. Then Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) (said to me): Anas, bring that earthen vessel. They (the guests) then began to enter until the courtyard and the apartment were fully packed. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: Make a circle of ten (guests), and every person should eat from that nearest to him. They began to eat, until they ate to their fill. A group went out (after eating the food), and another group came in until all of them had eaten. He (the Holy Prophet) said to me: Anas, lift it (the earthen vessel), so I lifted it, but I could not assess whether it had more (food) when I placed it (before Allah's Messenger) or when I lifted it (after the people had been served out of it). A group among them (the guests) began to talk in the house of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was sitting and his wife had been sitting with her face turned towards the wall. It was troublesome for Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), so Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) went out and greeted his wives. He then returned. When they (the guests) saw that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had returned they thought that it (their overstay) was something troublesome for him. He (the narrator) said: They hastened towards the door and all of them went out. And there came Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and he hung a curtain and went in, and I was sitting in his apartment and he did not stay but for a short while. He then came to me and these verses were revealed. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) came out and recited them to the people:" O you who believe, enter not the houses of the Prophet unless permission is given to you for a meal, not waiting for its cooking being finished-but when you are invited, enter, and when you have taken food, disperse not seeking to listen to talk. Surely this gives the Prophet trouble", to the end of verse (xxxiii. 53). (Al-Ja'd said that Anas stated: I am the first amongst the people to hear these verses), and henceforth the wives of the Apostle (ﷺ) began to observe seclusion (al-hijab).
Sahih Muslim Book 16, Hadith 110
Yahya related to me from Malik from Said ibn Abi Said al-Maqburi
from Abu Salama ibn Abd ar-Rahman ibn Awf that he asked A'isha, the
wife of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, what the
prayer of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him
peace, was like during Ramadan. She said, "The Messenger of Allah, may
Allah bless him and grant him peace, did not go above eleven rakas in
Ramadan or at any other time. He prayed four - do not ask me about
their beauty or length. Then he prayed another four - do not ask me
about their beauty and length. Then he prayed three."
A'isha
continued, "I said, 'Messenger of Allah, are you sleeping before you
do the witr?' He said, A'isha, my eyes sleep but my heart does not
sleep.' "
Muwatta Malik Book 7, Hadith 9
That 'Umar asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about Ghusl from Janabah - and the narrations agree on this - that one should start by pouring water on the right hand two or three times, then put the right hand into the vessel and pour water with it onto the private parts, with the left hand on the private parts to wash off whatever is there, until it is clean; then put the left hand on the dust if one wants to, then pour water over the left hand until it is clean; then wash the hands three times, (sniff water into the nose) and rinse the mouth, and wash the face and forearms, three times each until when reaching the head, he does not wipe the head, rather he pours water over it. This is how the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) performed Ghusl according to what was mentioned.
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 4, Hadith 27
"We set out for Hajj, and came to Al-Madinah intending to perform Hajj. While we were in our camping place unloading our mounts, someone came to us and said: 'The people have gathered in the Masjid and there is panic.' So we set out and found the people gathered around a group in the middle of the Masjid, among whom were 'Ali, Az-Zubair, Talhah and Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas. While we were like that, 'Uthman came, wearing a yellowish cloak with which he had covered his head. He said: Is 'Ali here? Is Talhah here? Is Az-Zubair here? Is Sa'd here? They said: Yes. He said: I adjure you by Allah, beside Whom there is none worthy of worship, are you aware that the Messenger of Allah said: Whoever buys the Mirbad of Banu so and so, Allah will forgive him, and I bought it for twenty or twenty-five thousand, then I came to the Messenger of Allah and told him, and he said: Add it to our Masjid and the reward for it will be yours? They said: By Allah, yes. He said: 'I adjure you by Allah, beside Whom there is none worthy of worship, are you aware that the Messenger of Allah said: Whoever buys the well of Rumah, Allah will forgive him, so I bought it for such and such an amount, then I came to the Messenger of Allah and told him, and he said: Give it to provide water for the Muslims, and the reward for it will be yours?' They said: By Allah, yes. He said: 'I adjure you by Allah, beside Whom there is none worthy of worship, are you aware that the Messenger of Allah said: Whoever equips these (men), Allah will forgive him, -meaning the army of Al-'Usrah (i.e. Tabuk)- so I equipped them until they were not lacking even a rope or a bridle?' They said: By Allah, yes. He said: O Allah, bear witness, O Allah, bear witness."
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 29, Hadith 14
The delegation of `Abdul Qais came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) We belong to the
tribe of Rabi`a. The infidels of Mudar tribe intervened between us and you so that we cannot come to
you except in the Sacred Months, so please order us some things we may act on and invite those left
behind to act on. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "I order you to observe four things and forbid you from four
things: (I order you) to believe in Allah, i.e. to testify that None has the right to be worshipped except
Allah." The Prophet (ﷺ) pointed with finger indicating one and added, "To offer prayers perfectly: to give
Zakat, and to give one-fifth of the booty you win (for Allah's Sake). I forbid you to use Ad-Dubba',
An-Naquir, Al-Hantam and Al-Muzaffat, (Utensils used for preparing alcoholic liquors and drinks).
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 64, Hadith 395
“A Jewish man said in the
marketplace of Al-Madinah: ‘By the One Who chose Musa above all of
mankind.’ An Ansari man raised his hand and slapped him. He said:
‘How
dare you say this when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) is among
us?’
Mention of that was made to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and
he said:
‘Allah says: “And the trumpet will be blown, and all who
are in the
heavens and all who are on the earth will swoon away,
except him whom
Allah wills. Then it will be blown a second time, and
behold they will
be standing, looking on (waiting).” I will
be the first one to
raise his head, and I will see Musa holding on to
one of the pillars
of the Throne, and I do not know whether he will
have raised his head
before me, or he will be one of those whom Allah
exempts. And whoever
says that I am better than Yunus bin Matta, he
is lying.”
Sunan Ibn Majah Book 37, Hadith 175
The Prophet (ﷺ) passed by her while she was in her place of prayer, then the Prophet (ﷺ) passed by her near midday, so he (ﷺ) said to her: “You have not ceased to be in this state?” She said: “Yes.” He said: “Should I not teach you words to say: ‘Glory to Allah according to the number of His creation, Glory to Allah according to the number of His creation, Glory to Allah according to the number of His creation (Subḥān Allāhi `adada khalqihi, Subḥān Allāhi `adada khalqihi, Subḥān Allāhi `adada khalqihi). Glory to Allah accord to what pleases Him, Glory to Allah accord to what pleases Him, Glory to Allah accord to what pleases Him (Subḥān Allāhi riḍā nafsihi, Subḥān Allāhi riḍā nafsihi, SSubḥān Allāhi riḍā nafsihii). Glory to Allah according to the weight of His Throne, Glory to Allah according to the weight of His Throne, Glory to Allah according to the weight of His Throne (Subḥān Allāhi zinata `Arshihi, Subḥān Allāhi zinata `Arshihi, Subḥān Allāhi zinata `Arshihi). Glory to Allah according to the amount of His Words, Glory to Allah according to the amount of His Words, Glory to Allah according to the amount of His Words (Subḥān Allāhi midāda kalimātihi, Subḥān Allāhi midāda kalimātihi, Subḥān Allāhi midāda kalimātihi).’”
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 48, Hadith 186
I do riot think that Abu Khubaib (i. e. Ibn Zabair) had heard from 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) (about the intended wish of the Prophet [may peace be upon him) In regard to the alteration of the Ka'ba). Harith said: Yes, I myself did hear from her. He ('Abd al-Malik) said: Well, tell me what you heard from her. He stated that she (Hadrat 'A'isha) had said that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) remarked: Verily your people have reduced (the area) of the House from its (original foundations, and if they had not recently abandoned polytheism (and embraced Islam) I would have reversed it to (those foundations) which they had left out of it. nd if your people would take initiative after me in rebuilding it, then come along with me so that I should show you what they have left out of it. He showed her about fifteen cubits of area from the side of Hatim (that they had separated). This is the narration transmitted by 'Abdullah b. Ubaid. Walid b. 'Ata' has, however, made this addition to it:" Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) said: I would have made two doors on the level of the ground (facing) the east and the west. Do you know why your people raised the level of its door (i. e. the door of the Ka'ba)? She said: No. He said: (They did it) out of vanity so that (they might be in a position) to grant admittance to him only whom they wished. When a person intended to get into it, they let him climb (the stairs), and as he was about to enter, they pushed him and he fell down." 'Abd al-Malik said to Harith; Did you yourself hear her saying this? He said: Yes. He (Harith) said that he ('Abd al-Malik) scratched the ground with his staff for some time and then said: I wish I had left his (Ibn Zubair's) work there.
Sahih Muslim Book 15, Hadith 450
That the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "When the penalty (of blood money) goes to a Mukatab, or an inheritance, then he inherits in accordance with as much as he is freed from it." And the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "The Mukatab is given the blood-money of a free person in accordance to what he has paid (for his freedom), and that of a slave in accordance to what remains."
There is something on this from Umm Salamah.
The Hadith of Ibn 'Abbas is a Hasan Hadith. This is how it was reported from Yahya bin Abi Kathir from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, from the Prophet (ﷺ).
Khalid bin Al-Hadh-dha' reported it from 'Ikrimah, from 'Ali as his saying.
This is acted upon according to some of the people of knowledge among the Companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) and others.
Most of the people of knowledge among the Companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) and others said that the Mukatab remains a slave as long as he still owes a Dirham. This is the view of Sufyan Ath-Thawri, Ash-Shafi'i, Ahmad, and Ishaq.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 14, Hadith 61
Yahya related to me from Malik that Muhammad ibn Abi Umama ibn
Sahl ibn Hunayf heard his father say, "My father, Sahl ibn Hunayf did
a ghusl at al-Kharrar. He removed the jubbah he had on while Amir ibn
Rabia was watching, and Sahl was a man with beautiful white skin. Amir
said to him, 'I have never seen anything like what I have seen today,
not even the skin of a virgin.' Sahl fell ill on the spot, and his
condition grew worse. Somebody went to the Messenger of Allah, may
Allah bless him and grant him peace, and told him that Sahl was ill,
and could not go with him. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him
and grant him peace, came to him, and Sahl told him what had happened
with Amir. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him
peace, said, 'Why does one of you kill his brother? Why did you not
say, "May Allah bless you?" (ta baraka-llah) The evil eye is true. Do
wudu from it.' Amir did wudu from it and Sahl went with the Messenger
of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and there was
nothing wrong with him."
Muwatta Malik Book 50, Hadith 1
Um Ruman, the mother of `Aisha said that while `Aisha and she were sitting, an Ansari woman came
and said, "May Allah harm such and-such a person!" Um Ruman said to her, What is the matter?" She
replied, "My son was amongst those who talked of the story (of the Slander)." Um Ruman said, "What
is that?" She said, "So-and-so...." and narrated the whole story. On that `Aisha said, "Did Allah's
Apostle hear about that?" She replies, "yes." `Aisha further said, "And Abu Bakr too?" She replied,
"Yes." On that, `Aisha fell down fainting, and when she came to her senses, she had got fever with
rigors. I put her clothes over her and covered her. The Prophet (ﷺ) came and asked, "What is wrong with
this (lady)?" Um Ruman replied, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! She (i.e. `Aisha) has got temperature with
rigors." He said, "Perhaps it is because of the story that has been talked about?" She said, "Yes."
`Aisha sat up and said, "By Allah, if I took an oath (that I am innocent), you would not believe me,
and if I said (that I am not innocent), you would not excuse me. My and your example is like that of
Jacob and his sons (as Jacob said ): 'It is Allah (Alone) Whose Help can be sought against that you
assert.' Um Ruman said, "The Prophet (ﷺ) then went out saying nothing. Then Allah declared her
innocence. On that, `Aisha said (to the Prophet), "I thank Allah only; thank neither anybody else nor
you."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 64, Hadith 187
