Yahya related to me from Malik from Rabia ibn Abi Abd ar-Rahman
from more than one of the people of knowledge of that time, that those
who were killed on the Day of the Camel, the Day of Siffin, the Day of
al-Harra, and the Day of Qudayd did not inherit from each other. None
of them inherited anything from his companion unless it was known that
he had been killed before his companion.
Malik said, "That is
the way of doing things about which there is no dispute, and which
none of the people of knowledge in our city doubt. The procedure with
two mutual heirs who are drowned, or killed in another way, when it is
not known which of them died first is the same - neither of them
inherits anything from his companion. Their inheritance goes to
whoever remains of their heirs. They are inherited from by the
living."
Malik said, "No one should inherit from anyone else
when there is doubt, and one should only inherit from the other when
there is certainty of knowledge and witnesses. That is because a man
and his mawla whom his father has freed might die at the same time.
The sons of the free man could say, 'Our father inherited from the
mawla.' They should not inherit from the mawla without knowledge or
testimony that he died first. The living people most entitled to his
wala' inherit from him."
Malik said, "Another example is two
full brothers who die. One of them has children and the other does
not. They have a half-brother by their father. It is not known which
of them died first, so the inheritance of the childless one goes to
his half-brother by the father. The children of the full-brother get
nothing."
Malik said, "Another example is when a paternal
aunt and the son of her brother die, or else the daughter of the
brother and her paternal uncle. It is not known which of them died
first. The paternal uncle does not inherit anything from the daughter
of his brother, and the son of the brother does not inherit anything
from his paternal aunt."
Muwatta Malik Book 27, Hadith 23
Let me tell you something. O Commander, which Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said on the day following, the Conquest which my ears heard and my heart has retained, and my eyes saw as he spoke it. He praised Allah and extolled Him and then said: Allah, not men, has made Mecca sacred; so it is not permissible for any person believing in Allah and the Last Day to shed blood in it, or lop a tree in it. If anyone seeks a concession on the basis of fighting of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), tell him that Allah permitted His Messenger, but not you, and He gave him permission only for an hour on one day, and its sacredness was restored on the very day like that of yesterday. Let him who is present convey the information to him who is absent. It was said to Abu Shuraih: What did Amr say to you? He said: I am better informed of that than you, Abu Shuraih, but the sacred territory does not grant protection to one who is disobedient, or one who runs away after shedding blood, or one who runs away after committing
Sahih Muslim Book 15, Hadith 508
Some (cooked) meat was brought to Allah Apostle and the meat of a forearm was presented to him as
he used to like it. He ate a morsel of it and said, "I will be the chief of all the people on the Day of
Resurrection. Do you know the reason for it?
Allah will gather all the human being of early generations as well as late generation on one plain so
that the announcer will be able to make them all-hear his voice and the watcher will be able to see all
of them. The sun will come so close to the people that they will suffer such distress and trouble as
they will not be able to bear or stand.
Then the people will say, 'Don't you see to what state you have reached? Won't you look for someone
who can intercede for you with your Lord' Some people will say to some others, 'Go to Adam.' So
they will go to Adam and say to him. 'You are the father of mankind; Allah created you with His Own
Hand, and breathed into you of His Spirit (meaning the spirit which he created for you); and ordered
the angels to prostrate before you; so (please) intercede for us with your Lord. Don't you see in what
state we are? Don't you see what condition we have reached?' Adam will say, 'Today my Lord has
become angry as He has never become before, nor will ever become thereafter. He forbade me (to eat
of the fruit of) the tree, but I disobeyed Him . Myself! Myself! Myself! (I am preoccuied with my own
problems). Go to someone else; go to Noah.'
So they will go to Noah and say (to him), 'O Noah! You are the first (of Allah's Messengers) to the
people of the earth, and Allah has named you a thankful slave; please intercede for us with your Lord.
Don't you see in what state we are?' He will say.' Today my Lord has become angry as He has never
become nor will ever become thereafter. I had (in the world) the right to make one definitely accepted
invocation, and I made it against my nation. Myself! Myself! Myself! Go to someone else; go to
Abraham.'
They will go to Abraham and say, 'O Abraham! You are Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and His Khalil from among
the people of the earth; so please intercede for us with your Lord. Don't you see in what state we are?'
He will say to them, 'My Lord has today become angry as He has never become before, nor will ever
become thereafter. I had told three lies (Abu Haiyan (the sub-narrator) mentioned them in the Hadith)
Myself! Myself! Myself! Go to someone else; go to Moses.'
The people will then go to Moses and say, 'O Moses! You art Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and Allah gave you
superiority above the others with this message and with His direct Talk to you; (please) intercede for
us with your Lord Don't you see in what state we are?' Moses will say, 'My Lord has today become
angry as He has never become before, nor will become thereafter, I killed a person whom I had not
been ordered to kill. Myself! Myself! Myself! Go to someone else; go to Jesus.'
So they will go to Jesus and say, 'O Jesus! You are Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and His Word which He sent to
Mary, and a superior soul created by Him, and you talked to the people while still young in the cradle.
Please intercede for us with your Lord. Don't you see in what state we are?' Jesus will say. 'My Lord
has today become angry as He has never become before nor will ever become thereafter. Jesus will
not mention any sin, but will say, 'Myself! Myself! Myself! Go to someone else; go to Muhammad.'
So they will come to me and say, 'O Muhammad ! You are Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and the last of the
prophets, and Allah forgave your early and late sins. (Please) intercede for us with your Lord. Don't
you see in what state we are?"
The Prophet (ﷺ) added, "Then I will go beneath Allah's Throne and fall in prostration before my Lord.
And then Allah will guide me to such praises and glorification to Him as He has never guided
anybody else before me. Then it will be said, 'O Muhammad Raise your head. Ask, and it will be
granted. Intercede and It (your intercession) will be accepted.' So I will raise my head and Say, 'My
followers, O my Lord! My followers, O my Lord'. It will be said, 'O Muhammad! Let those of your
followers who have no accounts, enter through such a gate of the gates of Paradise as lies on the right;
and they will share the other gates with the people." The Prophet (ﷺ) further said, "By Him in Whose
Hand my soul is, the distance between every two gate-posts of Paradise is like the distance between
Mecca and Busra (in Sham).
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 65, Hadith 234
While the Prophet (ﷺ) was in the state of prostration, surrounded by a group of people from Quraish
pagans. `Uqba bin Abi Mu'ait came and brought the intestines of a camel and threw them on the back
of the Prophet (ﷺ) . The Prophet (ﷺ) did not raise his head from prostration till Fatima (i.e. his daughter) came
and removed those intestines from his back, and invoked evil on whoever had done (the evil deed).
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "O Allah! Destroy the chiefs of Quraish, O Allah! Destroy Abu Jahl bin Hisham,
`Utba bin Rabi`a, Shaiba bin Rabi`a, `Uqba bin Abi Mu'ait, Umaiya bin Khalaf (or Ubai bin Kalaf)."
Later on I saw all of them killed during the battle of Badr and their bodies were thrown into a well
except the body of Umaiya or Ubai, because he was a fat person, and when he was pulled, the parts of
his body got separated before he was thrown into the well.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 58, Hadith 27
Yahya said from Malik that he heard from Sulayman ibn Yasar and
others that when they were asked whether the testimony of a man
flogged for a hadd crime was permitted, they said, "Yes, when
repentance (tawba) appears from him."
Malik related to me
that he heard Ibn Shihab being asked about that and he said the like
of what Sulayman ibn Yasar said.
Malik said, "That is what is
done in our community. It is by the word of Allah, the Blessed, the
Exalted, 'And those who accuse women who are muhsan, and then do not
bring four witnesses, flog them with eighty lashes, and do not accept
any testimony of theirs ever. They indeed are evil-doers, save those
who turn in tawba after that and make amends. Allah is Forgiving,
Merciful.' " (Sura 24 ayat 4).
Muwatta Malik Book 36, Hadith 6
The Prophet (ﷺ) led us in the Zuhr prayer, offering only two rak`at and then (finished it) with Taslim, and
went to a piece of wood in front of the mosque and put his hand over it. Abu Bakr and `Umar were
also present among the people on that day but dared not talk to him (about his unfinished prayer). And
the hasty people went away, wondering. "Has the prayer been shortened" Among the people there was
a man whom the Prophet (ﷺ) used to call Dhul-Yadain (the longarmed). He said, "O Allah's Prophet!
Have you forgotten or has the prayer been shortened?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Neither have I forgotten,
nor has it been shortened." They (the people) said, "Surely, you have forgotten, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)!"
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, Dhul-Yadain has told the truth." So the Prophet (ﷺ) got up and offered other two rak`at
and finished his prayer with Taslim. Then he said Takbir, performed a prostration of ordinary duration
or longer, then he raised his head and said Takbir and performed another prostration of ordinary
duration or longer and then raised his head and said Takbir (i.e. he performed the two prostrations of
Sahu, i.e., forgetfulness).
