Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Ata ibn Yazid
al-Laythi that Ubaydullah ibn Adi ibnal-Khiyar said, "Once when the
Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was
sitting with some people, a man came to him and spoke secretly to him.
Nobody knew what he had said until the Messenger of Allah, may Allah
bless him and grant him peace, disclosed that he had asked for
permission to kill one of the hypocrites. When he disclosed this, the
Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said,
'Doesn't he testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad
is the Messenger of Allah?' The man replied, 'Of course, but he
hasn't really done so.' He said, 'Doesn't he do the prayer?' and the
man replied, 'Of course, but he doesn't really do the prayer.' He
said, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, 'Those are the ones
whom Allah has forbidden me (to kill).' "
Muwatta Malik Book 9, Hadith 92
"I supplicate Allah to bring you and I together in the market of Paradise." So Sa'eed said: "Is there a market in it?" He said: "Yes, the messenger of Allah (s.a.w) informed me that: 'When the people of Paradise enter it, they shall take their places according to the virtue of their deeds. Then permission shall be granted to them to visit their Lord, for the length of a Friday from the days of the world. He shall present for them His Throne and He shall manifest the gardens of Paradise. Then lofty seats of light shall be erected for them, and lofty saets of pearl, and lofty seats or corundum, and lofty seats of peridots, and lofty seats of gold, and lofty seats of silver. And the lowest of them- and there is none of them that is low- shall sit upon a dune of musk and camphor, and they shall not regard those upon the chairs as having a better sitting place than them.' Abu Hurairah said: "I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, and will we see our Lord?' He (S.a.w) said: 'Yes. shall be what no eyes have seen the like of, nor ears have heard of, nor ever has it occurred in the hearts (of men). And there shall be carried to us whatever we desire. There shall be not be anything sold or bought in this market, and, in that market, the people of Paradise shall meet one another.' He said: 'So the person of high rank shall come and meet the one below him in rank- and there is none among them that is low- so he shall be impressed by the clothes he sees on him, their discussion shall not come to an end until he shall imagine upon himself what is more beautiful than it, and that is because it is not fitting for anyone to feel regret therein. Then we will return to our places and our wives shall meet us saying: “Welcome and greetings, you have come, and you have beauty greater than what you parted us with.” So we will say: “Indeed we sat today with our Lord, the Powerful, and it is fitting that we should return with what we have returned with.'” (Da'if)
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 38, Hadith 27
The Prophet (ﷺ) said (on the day of Idal-Adha), "The first thing we will do on this day of ours, is to offer
the (`Id) prayer and then return to slaughter the sacrifice. Whoever does so, he acted according to our
Sunna (tradition), and whoever slaughtered (the sacrifice) before the prayer, what he offered was just
meat he presented to his family, and that will not be considered as Nusak (sacrifice)." (On hearing
that) Abu Burda bin Niyar got up, for he had slaughtered the sacrifice before the prayer, and said, "I
have got a six month old ram." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'Slaughter it (as a sacrifice) but it will not be
sufficient for any-one else (as a sacrifice after you). Al-Bara' added: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Whoever
slaughtered (the sacrifice) after the prayer, he slaughtered it at the right time and followed the tradition
of the Muslims."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 73, Hadith 1
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever wakes up in the night and says, ‘None has the right to be worshiped but Allah, alone, without partner, to Him belongs the Dominion, and to Him is the praise, and He has power over all things. And Glory is to Allah, and all the praise is to Allah, and ‘None has the right to be worshiped but Allah, and Allah is the greatest, and there is no might nor power except by Allah (Lā ilāha illallāh, waḥdahu lā sharīka lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-ḥamdu, wa huwa `alā kulli shai'in qadīr. Wa subḥān Allah, walḥamdulillāh, wa lā ilāha illallāh, wa Allāhu akbar, wa lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh.)’ – then he said: ‘O my Lord, forgive me (Rabbighfirlī)’ – or he said – ‘then he supplicates, he shall be responded to. So he makes a firm determination, then performs Wudu', then he performs Salat, his Salat shall be accepted.”
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 48, Hadith 45
(the mother of believers) Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) during his fatal ailment said, "Order Abu Bakr to lead the
people in prayer." I said, "If Abu Bakr stood at your place (in prayers, the people will not be able to
hear him because of his weeping, so order `Umar to lead the people in prayer." He again said, "Order
Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer " Then I said to Hafsa, "Will you say (to the Prophet), 'If Abu
Bakr stood at your place, the people will not be able to hear him be cause of his weeping, so order
`Umar to lead the people in prayer?" Hafsa did so, whereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "You are like the
companions of Joseph (See Qur'an, 12:30-32). Order Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer." Hafsa
then said to me, "I have never received any good from you!"
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 96, Hadith 34
I heard Hisham bin Hakim reciting Surat-al-Furqan during the lifetime of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), I listened to
his recitation and noticed that he was reciting in a way that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had not taught me. I was
about to jump over him while He was still in prayer, but I waited patiently and when he finished his
prayer, I put my sheet round his neck (and pulled him) and said, "Who has taught you this Sura which
I have heard you reciting?" Hisham said, "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) taught it to me." I said, "You are telling a
lie, for he taught it to me in a way different from the way you have recited it!" Then I started leading
(dragged) him to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and said (to the Prophet), " I have heard this man reciting Surat-al-
Furqan in a way that you have not taught me." The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "(O `Umar) release him! Recite, O
Hisham." Hisham recited in the way I heard him reciting. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "It was revealed like
this." Then Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Recite, O `Umar!" I recited in the way he had taught me, whereupon
he said, "It was revealed like this," and added, "The Qur'an has been revealed to be recited in seven
different ways, so recite of it whichever is easy for you ." (See Hadith No. 514, Vol. 6)
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 97, Hadith 175
Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said from Said al-
Maqburi from Abdullah ibn Abi Qatada that his father had said that a
man came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him
peace, and said, "O Messenger of Allah! If I am killed in the way of
Allah, expectant for reward, sincere, advancing, and not retreating,
will Allah pardon my faults?" The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless
him and grant him peace, said, "Yes." When the man turned away, the
Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, called
him - or commanded him and he was called to him. The Messenger of
Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to him, "What did
you say?" He repeated his words to him, and the Prophet, may Allah
bless him and grant him peace, said to him, "Yes, except for the debt.
Jibril said that to me."
Muwatta Malik Book 21, Hadith 33
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) sent out ten spies under the command of `Asim bin Thabit Al-Ansari, the grand-father
of `Asim bin `Umar Al-Khattab. When they reached (a place called) Al-Hadah between 'Usfan and
Mecca, their presence was made known to a sub-tribe of Hudhail called Banu Lihyan. So they sent
about one hundred archers after them. The archers traced the footsteps (of the Muslims) till they found
the traces of dates which they had eaten at one of their camping places. The archers said, "These dates
are of Yathrib (i.e. Medina)," and went on tracing the Muslims' footsteps. When `Asim and his
companions became aware of them, they took refuge in a (high) place. But the enemy encircled them
and said, "Come down and surrender. We give you a solemn promise and covenant that we will not
kill anyone of you." `Asim bin Thabit said, "O people! As for myself, I will never get down to be
under the protection of an infidel. O Allah! Inform your Prophet about us." So the archers threw their
arrows at them and martyred `Asim. Three of them came down and surrendered to them, accepting
their promise and covenant and they were Khubaib, Zaid bin Ad-Dathina and another man. When the
archers got hold of them, they untied the strings of the arrow bows and tied their captives with them.
The third man said, "This is the first proof of treachery! By Allah, I will not go with you for I follow
the example of these." He meant the martyred companions. The archers dragged him and struggled
with him (till they martyred him). Then Khubaib and Zaid bin Ad-Dathina were taken away by them
and later on they sold them as slaves in Mecca after the event of the Badr battle.
The sons of Al-Harit bin `Amr bin Naufal bought Khubaib for he was a person who had killed (their
father) Al-Hari bin `Amr on the day (of the battle) of Badr. Khubaib remained imprisoned by them till
they decided unanimously to kill him. One day Khubaib borrowed from a daughter of Al-Harith, a
razor for shaving his pubic hair, and she lent it to him. By chance, while she was inattentive, a little
son of hers went to him (i.e. Khubaib) and she saw that Khubaib had seated him on his thigh while the
razor was in his hand. She was so much terrified that Khubaib noticed her fear and said, "Are you
afraid that I will kill him? Never would I do such a thing." Later on (while narrating the story) she
said, "By Allah, I had never seen a better captive than Khubaib. By Allah, one day I saw him eating
from a bunch of grapes in his hand while he was fettered with iron chains and (at that time) there was
no fruit in Mecca." She used to say," It was food Allah had provided Khubaib with."
When they took him to Al-Hil out of Mecca sanctuary to martyr him, Khubaib requested them.
"Allow me to offer a two-rak`at prayer." They allowed him and he prayed two rak`at and then said,
"By Allah! Had I not been afraid that you would think I was worried, I would have prayed more."
Then he (invoked evil upon them) saying, "O Allah! Count them and kill them one by one, and do not
leave anyone of them"' Then he recited: "As I am martyred as a Muslim, I do not care in what way I
receive my death for Allah's Sake, for this is for the Cause of Allah. If He wishes, He will bless the
cut limbs of my body." Then Abu Sarva, 'Ubqa bin Al-Harith went up to him and killed him. It was
Khubaib who set the tradition of praying for any Muslim to be martyred in captivity (before he is
executed). The Prophet (ﷺ) told his companions of what had happened (to those ten spies) on the same
day they were martyred. Some Quraish people, being informed of `Asim bin Thabit's death, sent some
messengers to bring a part of his body so that his death might be known for certain, for he had
previously killed one of their leaders (in the battle of Badr). But Allah sent a swarm of wasps to
protect the dead body of `Asim, and they shielded him from the messengers who could not cut
anything from his body.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 64, Hadith 40
We witnessed along with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) the Khaibar (campaign). Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) told his
companions about a man who claimed to be a Muslim, "This man is from the people of the Fire."
When the battle started, the man fought very bravely and received a great number of wounds and got
crippled. On that, a man from among the companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) came and said, "O Allah's
Apostle! Do you know what the man you described as of the people of the Fire has done? He has
fought very bravely for Allah's Cause and he has received many wounds." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "But he
is indeed one of the people of the Fire." Some of the Muslims were about to have some doubt about
that statement. So while the man was in that state, the pain caused by the wounds troubled him so
much that he put his hand into his quiver and took out an arrow and committed suicide with it. Off
went some men from among the Muslims to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Allah has
made your statement true. So-and-so has committed suicide." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "O Bilal! Get up
and announce in public: None will enter Paradise but a believer, and Allah may support this religion
(Islam) with a wicked man."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 82, Hadith 12
That when the Ansar drew lots as to which of the emigrants should dwell with which of the Ansar, the
name of `Uthman bin Mazun came out (to be in their lot). Um Al-Ala further said, "Uthman stayed
with us, and we nursed him when he got sick, but he died. We shrouded him in his clothes, and Allah's
Apostle came to our house and I said, (addressing the dead `Uthman), 'O Abu As-Sa'ib! May Allah be
merciful to you. I testify that Allah has blessed you.' The Prophet (ﷺ) said to me, "How do you know that
Allah has blessed him?" I replied, 'I do not know O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! May my parents be sacrificed for
you.' Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, 'As regards `Uthman, by Allah he has died and I really wish him every
good, yet, by Allah, although I am Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), I do not know what will be done to him.' Um Al-
Ala added, 'By Allah I shall never attest the piety of anybody after him. And what Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)s
said made me sad." Um Al-Ala further said, "Once I slept and saw in a dream, a flowing stream for
`Uthman. So I went to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and told him about it, he said, 'That is (the symbol of) his
deeds."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 52, Hadith 48
“We were with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and a man came to him and said: 'I adjure you by Allah (SWT) to judge between us according to the Book of Allah (SWT).' His opponent, who was more knowledgeable than him, said: 'Judge between us according to the Book of Allah (SWT), but let me speak first.' He said: 'Speak.' He said: 'My son was a servant of this man, and he committed adultery with his wife, and I ransomed him for one hundred sheep and a servant. I asked some men of knowledge and I was told that my son should be given one hundred lashes and exiled for a year, and that the wife of this man should be stoned.” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, I will judge between you according to the Book of Allah (SWT). The one hundred sheep and the servant are to be returned to you and your son is to be given one hundred lashes and exiled for a year. Go tomorrow, O Unais, to the wife of this man and if she admits I then stone her.'”
Sunan Ibn Majah Book 20, Hadith 17
Muhayysah bin Mas'ud and 'Abdullah bin Sahl went to Khaibar for some need they had there, and they parted among the palm trees. 'Abdullah bin Sahl was killed, and 'Abdullah bin Sahl was killed, and his brother 'Abdur-Rahman bin Shl, and Huwayysah, and Musayysah, his paternal cousins, came to the Messenger of Allah. 'Abdur-Rahan spoke about his brother's case, but he was the youngest of them, so the Messenger of Allah said: "Let the elders speak first." So they spoke about their companions, and the Messenger of Allah said: Let fifty of your swear an oath." The said: "O Messenger of Allah, it is something that we did not witness: how can we swear an oath?" He said: "Then let the Jews swear fifty oaths to their innocence." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, they area) a disbelieving people," So the Messenger of Allah paid the blood money himself Sahl said: "I entered a Mirbad of theirs, and one of those camels kicked me."
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 45, Hadith 8
When the Prophet (ﷺ) alighted at Marr az-Zahran, al-Abbas said: I thought, I swear by Allah, if the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) enters Mecca with the army by force before the Quraysh come to him and seek protection from him, it will be their total ruin. So I rode on the mule of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and thought, Perhaps I may find a man coming for his needs who will to the people of Mecca and inform them of the position of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), so that they may come to him and seek protection from him. While I was on my way, I heard AbuSufyan and Budayl ibn Warqa' speaking.
I said: O AbuHanzalah! He recognized my voice and said: AbulFadl? I replied: Yes. He said: who is with you, may my parents be a sacrifice for you? I said: Here are the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and his people (with him).
He asked: Which is the way out? He said: He rode behind me, and his companion returned. When the morning came, I brought him to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and he embraced Islam.
I said: Messenger of Allah, AbuSufyan is a man who likes this pride, do something for him. He said: Yes, he who enters the house of AbuSufyan is safe; he who closes the door upon him is safe; and he who enters the mosque is safe. The people scattered to their houses and in the mosque.
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 20, Hadith 95
Once I went with `Umar bin Al-Khattab to the market. A young woman followed `Umar and said, "O
chief of the believers! My husband has died, leaving little children. By Allah, they have not even a
sheep's trotter to cook; they have no farms or animals. I am afraid that they may die because of
hunger, and I am the daughter of Khufaf bin Ima Al-Ghafari, and my father witnessed the Pledge of
allegiance) of Al-Hudaibiya with the Prophet.' `Umar stopped and did not proceed, and said, "I
welcome my near relative." Then he went towards a strong camel which was tied in the house, and
carried on to it, two sacks he had loaded with food grains and put between them money and clothes
and gave her its rope to hold and said, "Lead it, and this provision will not finish till Allah gives you a
good supply." A man said, "O chief of the believers! You have given her too much." "`Umar said
disapprovingly. "May your mother be bereaved of you! By Allah, I have seen her father and brother
besieging a fort for a long time and conquering it, and then we were discussing what their shares they
would have from that war booty."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 64, Hadith 203
