The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:" We (prophets) do not have any heirs; what we leave behind is (to be given in) charity." The household of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) will live on the income from these properties, but, by Allah, I will not change the charity of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) from the condition in which it was in his own time. I will do the same with it as the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upun him) himself used to do. So Abu Bakr refused to hand over anything from it to Fatima who got angry with Abu Bakr for this reason. She forsook him and did not talk to him until the end of her life. She lived for six months after the death of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). When she died, her husband. 'Ali b. Abu Talib, buried her at night. He did not inform Abu Bakr about her death and offered the funeral prayer over her himself. During the lifetime of Fatima, 'All received (special) regard from the people. After she had died, he felt estrangement in the faces of the people towards him. So he sought to make peace with Abu Bakr and offer his allegiance to him. He had not yet owed allegiance to him as Caliph during these months. He sent a person to Abu Bakr requesting him to visit him unaccompanied by anyone (disapproving the presence of Umar). 'Umar said to Abu Bakr: BY Allah, you will not visit them alone. Abu Bakr said: What will they do to me? By Allah, I will visit them. And he did pay them a visit alone. 'All recited Tashahhud (as it is done in the beginning of a religious sermon) ; then said: We recognise your moral excellence and what Allah has bestowed upon you. We do not envy the favour (i. e. the Catiphate) which Allah nas conferred upon you; but you have done it (assumed the position of Caliph) alone (without consulting us), and we thought we had a right (to be consulted) on account of our kinship with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). He continued to talk to Abu Bakr (in this vein) until the latter's eyes welled up with tears. Then Abd Bakr spoke and said: By Allah, in Whose Hand is my life, the kinship of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) is dearer to me than the kinship of my own people. As regards the dispute that has arisen between you and me about these properties, I have not deviated from the right course and I have not given up doing about them what the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to do. So 'Ali said to Abu Bakr: This aftetnoon is (fixed) for (swearing) allegiance (to you). So when Abu Bakr had finished his Zuhr prayer, he ascended the pulpit and recited Tashahhud, and described the status of 'Ali, his delay in swearing allegiance and the excuse which lie had offered to him (for this delay). (After this) he asked for God's forgiveness. Then 'Ali b. Abu Talib recited the Tashahhud. extolled the merits of Abu Bakr and (said that) his action was nott prompted by any jealousy of Abu Bakr on his part or his refusal to accept the high position which Allah had conferred upon him, (adding: ) But we were of the opinion that we should have a share in the government, but the matter had been decided without taking us into confidence, and this displeased us. (Hence the delay in offering allegiance. The Muslims were pleased with this (explanation) and they said: You have done the right thing. The Muslims were (again) favourably inclined to 'Ali since he adopted the proper course of action.
Sahih Muslim Book 32, Hadith 61
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) once said to me, "If the revenue of Bahrain came, I would give you this much and this
much." When Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had died, the revenue of Bahrain came, and Abu Bakr announced, " Let
whoever was promised something by Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) come to me." So, I went to Abu Bakr and said,
"Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said to me, 'If the revenue of Bahrain came, I would give you this much and this.
much." On that Abu Bakr said to me, "Scoop (money) with both your hands." I scooped money with
both my hands and Abu Bakr asked me to count it. I counted it and it was five-hundred (gold pieces).
The total amount he gave me was one thousand and five hundred (gold pieces.)
Narrated Anas: Money from Bahrain was brought to the Prophet (ﷺ) . He said, "Spread it in the Mosque."
It was the biggest amount that had ever been brought to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) . In the meantime Al-`Abbas
came to him and said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Give me, for I gave the ransom of myself and `Aqil." The
Prophet said (to him), "Take." He scooped money with both hands and poured it in his garment and
tried to lift it, but he could not and appealed to the Prophet, "Will you order someone to help me in
lifting it?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "No." Then Al-`Abbas said, "Then will you yourself help me carry it?"
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "No." Then Al `Abbas threw away some of the money, but even then he was not
able to lift it, and so he gain requested the Prophet (ﷺ) "Will you order someone to help me carry it?" The
Prophet said, "No." Then Al-`Abbas said, "Then will you yourself yelp me carry it?" The Prophet (ﷺ)
said, 'No." So, Al-`Abbas threw away some more money and lifted it on his shoulder and went away.
The Prophet (ﷺ) kept on looking at him with astonishment at his greediness till he went out of our sight.
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) did not get up from there till not a single Dirham remained from that money.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 58, Hadith 7
Jarir said "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said to me, "Won't you relieve me from Dhul-Khalasa?" I replied, "Yes, (I
will relieve you)." So I proceeded along with one-hundred and fifty cavalry from Ahmas tribe who
were skillful in riding horses. I used not to sit firm over horses, so I informed the Prophet (ﷺ) of that, and
he stroke my chest with his hand till I saw the marks of his hand over my chest and he said, O Allah!
Make him firm and one who guides others and is guided (on the right path).' Since then I have never
fallen from a horse. Dhul-l--Khulasa was a house in Yemen belonging to the tribe of Khatham and
Bajaila, and in it there were idols which were worshipped, and it was called Al-Ka`ba." Jarir went
there, burnt it with fire and dismantled it. When Jarir reached Yemen, there was a man who used to
foretell and give good omens by casting arrows of divination. Someone said to him. "The messenger
of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) is present here and if he should get hold of you, he would chop off your neck." One
day while he was using them (i.e. arrows of divination), Jarir stopped there and said to him, "Break
them (i.e. the arrows) and testify that None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, or else I will
chop off your neck." So the man broke those arrows and testified that none has the right to be
worshipped except Allah. Then Jarir sent a man called Abu Artata from the tribe of Ahmas to the
Prophet to convey the good news (of destroying Dhu-l-Khalasa). So when the messenger reached the
Prophet, he said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! By Him Who sent you with the Truth, I did not leave it till it was
like a scabby camel." Then the Prophet (ﷺ) blessed the horses of Ahmas and their men five times.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 64, Hadith 383
Abu Huraira said, "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) led us in one of the two `Isha' prayers (Abu Huraira named that
prayer but I forgot it)." Abu Huraira added, "He prayed two rak`at and then finished the prayer with
Taslim. He stood up near a piece of wood Lying across the mosque and leaned on it in such a way as
if he was angry. Then he put his right hand over the left and clasped his hands by interlacing his
fingers and then put his J right cheek on the back of his left hand. The people who were in haste left
the mosque through its gates. They wondered whether the prayer was reduced. And amongst them
were Abu Bakr and `Umar but they hesitated to ask the Prophet. A long-handed man called Dhul-
Yadain asked the Prophet, 'O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Have you forgotten or has the prayer been reduced?'
The Prophet (ﷺ) replied, 'I have neither forgotten nor has the prayer been reduced' The Prophet (ﷺ) added, 'Is
what Dhul Yadain has said true?' They (the people) said, 'Yes, it is true.' The Prophet (ﷺ) stood up again
and led the prayer, completing the remaining prayer, forgotten by him, and performed Taslim, and
then said, 'Allahu Akbar.' And then he did a prostration as he used to prostrate or longer than that. He
then raised his head saying, 'Allahu Akbar; he then again said, 'Allahu Akbar', and prostrated as he
used to prostrate or longer than that. Then he raised his head and said, 'Allahu Akbar.' " (The subnarrator
added, "I think that they asked (Ibn Seereen) whether the Prophet (ﷺ) completed the prayer with
Taslim. He replied, "I heard that `Imran bin Husain had said, 'Then he (the Prophet) did Taslim.")
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 8, Hadith 129
Malik related to me from Ibn Shihab that Abu Umama ibn Sahl ibn
Hunayf said, ''Amir ibn Rabia saw Sahl ibn Hunayf doing a ghusl and
said, 'I have not seen the like of what I see today, not even the skin
of a maiden who has never been out of doors.' Sahl fell to the ground.
The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was
approached and it was said, 'Messenger of Allah, can you do anything
about Sahl ibn Hunayf? By Allah, he can not raise his head.' He said,
'Do you suspect anyone of it?' They said, 'We suspect Amir ibn Rabia.'
"
He continued, "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him
and grant him peace, summoned Amir and was furious with him and said,
'Why does one of you kill his brother? Why did you not say, "May Allah
bless you?" Do ghusl for it.' Amir washed his face, hands, elbows,
knees, the end of his feet, and inside his lower garment in a vessel.
Then he poured it over him, and Sahl went off with the people, and
there was nothing wrong with him."
Muwatta Malik Book 50, Hadith 2
“Angels
come to the dying person, and if the man was righteous, they
say:
‘Come out, O good soul that was in a good body, come out
praiseworthy and receive glad tidings of mercy and fragrance and a
Lord Who is not angry.’ And this is repeated until it comes out,
then
it is taken up to heaven, and it is opened for it, and it is
asked:
‘Who is this?’ They say: ‘So-and-so.’ It is said:
‘Welcome to the good
soul that was in a good body. Enter
praiseworthy and receive the glad
tidings of mercy and fragrance and
a Lord Who is not angry.’ And this
is repeated until it is brought
to the heaven above which is Allah.
But if the man was evil, they
say: ‘Come out O evil soul that was in
an evil body. Come out
blameworthy, and receive the tidings of boiling
water and the
discharge of dirty wounds,’ and other torments of
similar kind, all
together. And this is repeated until it comes out,
then it is taken
up to heaven and it is not opened for it. And it is
asked: ‘Who is
this?’ It is said: ‘So-and-so.’ And it is said: ‘No
welcome
to the evil soul that was in an evil body. Go back
blameworthy, for
the gates of heaven will not be opened to you.’ So it
is sent back
down from heaven, then it goes to the grave.”
