the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “When one of you leaves his bed then returns to it, then let him brush it off with the edge of his Izar three times, for indeed, he does not know what succeeded him upon it after him. When he lies down, let him say: ‘In Your Name, my Lord, I lay my side down, and in Your Name I raise it. And if You take my soul, then have mercy upon it, and if You release it, then protect it with that which You protect Your righteous worshipers (Bismika rabbī waḍa`tu janbī wa bika arfa`uhu, fa’in amsakta nafsī farḥamhā wa in arsaltahā faḥfaẓhā bimā taḥfaẓu bihī `ibādakaṣ-ṣāliḥīn)’ And when he awakens, let him say: All praise is due to Allah, Who healed me in my body, and returned to me my soul, and permitted me to remember Him (Al-ḥamdulillāh alladhī `āfānī fī jasadī wa radda `alayya rūḥī wa adhina lī bidhikrih).’”
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 48, Hadith 32
The Prophet (ﷺ) once came out to us and said, "Some nations were displayed before me. A prophet would
pass in front of me with one man, and another with two men, and another with a group of people. and
another with nobody with him. Then I saw a great crowd covering the horizon and I wished that they
were my followers, but it was said to me, 'This is Moses and his followers.' Then it was said to me,
'Look'' I looked and saw a big gathering with a large number of people covering the horizon. It was
said, "Look this way and that way.' So I saw a big crowd covering the horizon. Then it was said to me,
"These are your followers, and among them there are 70,000 who will enter Paradise without (being
asked about their) accounts. " Then the people dispersed and the Prophet (ﷺ) did not tell who those 70,000
were. So the companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) started talking about that and some of them said, "As regards
us, we were born in the era of heathenism, but then we believed in Allah and His Apostle . We think
however, that these (70,000) are our offspring." That talk reached the Prophet (ﷺ) who said, "These
(70,000) are the people who do not draw an evil omen from (birds) and do not get treated by branding
themselves and do not treat with Ruqya, but put their trust (only) in their Lord." then 'Ukasha bin
Muhsin got up and said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Am I one of those (70,000)?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Yes."
Then another person got up and said, "Am I one of them?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, " 'Ukasha has anticipated
you."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 76, Hadith 67
Yahya related to me from Malik from Rabia ibn Abi Abd ar-Rahman
from more than one of the people of knowledge of that time, that those
who were killed on the Day of the Camel, the Day of Siffin, the Day of
al-Harra, and the Day of Qudayd did not inherit from each other. None
of them inherited anything from his companion unless it was known that
he had been killed before his companion.
Malik said, "That is
the way of doing things about which there is no dispute, and which
none of the people of knowledge in our city doubt. The procedure with
two mutual heirs who are drowned, or killed in another way, when it is
not known which of them died first is the same - neither of them
inherits anything from his companion. Their inheritance goes to
whoever remains of their heirs. They are inherited from by the
living."
Malik said, "No one should inherit from anyone else
when there is doubt, and one should only inherit from the other when
there is certainty of knowledge and witnesses. That is because a man
and his mawla whom his father has freed might die at the same time.
The sons of the free man could say, 'Our father inherited from the
mawla.' They should not inherit from the mawla without knowledge or
testimony that he died first. The living people most entitled to his
wala' inherit from him."
Malik said, "Another example is two
full brothers who die. One of them has children and the other does
not. They have a half-brother by their father. It is not known which
of them died first, so the inheritance of the childless one goes to
his half-brother by the father. The children of the full-brother get
nothing."
Malik said, "Another example is when a paternal
aunt and the son of her brother die, or else the daughter of the
brother and her paternal uncle. It is not known which of them died
first. The paternal uncle does not inherit anything from the daughter
of his brother, and the son of the brother does not inherit anything
from his paternal aunt."
Muwatta Malik Book 27, Hadith 23
that he heard Ibn `Abbas saying, "Thursday! And you know not what Thursday is? After that Ibn
`Abbas wept till the stones on the ground were soaked with his tears. On that I asked Ibn `Abbas,
"What is (about) Thursday?" He said, "When the condition (i.e. health) of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)
deteriorated, he said, 'Bring me a bone of scapula, so that I may write something for you after which
you will never go astray.'The people differed in their opinions although it was improper to differ in
front of a prophet, They said, 'What is wrong with him? Do you think he is delirious? Ask him (to
understand). The Prophet (ﷺ) replied, 'Leave me as I am in a better state than what you are asking me to
do.' Then the Prophet (ﷺ) ordered them to do three things saying, 'Turn out all the pagans from the
Arabian Peninsula, show respect to all foreign delegates by giving them gifts as I used to do.' " The
sub-narrator added, "The third order was something beneficial which either Ibn `Abbas did not
mention or he mentioned but I forgot.'
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 58, Hadith 10
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever wakes up in the night and says, ‘None has the right to be worshiped but Allah, alone, without partner, to Him belongs the Dominion, and to Him is the praise, and He has power over all things. And Glory is to Allah, and all the praise is to Allah, and ‘None has the right to be worshiped but Allah, and Allah is the greatest, and there is no might nor power except by Allah (Lā ilāha illallāh, waḥdahu lā sharīka lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-ḥamdu, wa huwa `alā kulli shai'in qadīr. Wa subḥān Allah, walḥamdulillāh, wa lā ilāha illallāh, wa Allāhu akbar, wa lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh.)’ – then he said: ‘O my Lord, forgive me (Rabbighfirlī)’ – or he said – ‘then he supplicates, he shall be responded to. So he makes a firm determination, then performs Wudu', then he performs Salat, his Salat shall be accepted.”
