It was one of the favors of Allah towards me that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) expired in my house on the day of
my turn while he was leaning against my chest and Allah made my saliva mix with his saliva at his
death. `Abdur-Rahman entered upon me with a Siwak in his hand and I was supporting (the back of)
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) (against my chest ). I saw the Prophet (ﷺ) looking at it (i.e. Siwak) and I knew that he
loved the Siwak, so I said ( to him ), "Shall I take it for you ? " He nodded in agreement. So I took it
and it was too stiff for him to use, so I said, "Shall I soften it for you ?" He nodded his approval. So I
softened it and he cleaned his teeth with it. In front of him there was a jug or a tin, (The sub-narrator,
`Umar is in doubt as to which was right) containing water. He started dipping his hand in the water
and rubbing his face with it, he said, "None has the right to be worshipped except Allah. Death has its
agonies." He then lifted his hands (towards the sky) and started saying, "With the highest companion,"
till he expired and his hand dropped down.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 64, Hadith 469
“I saw the Messenger of
Allah
(ﷺ) offering the funeral prayer for a man among the Ansar, and
I
heard him say: ‘Allahumma salli ‘alayhi waghfirlahu warhamhu, wa
‘afihi wa’fu ‘anhu, waghsilhu bi ma’in wa thaljin wa baradin,
wa
naqqihi min adh-dhunubi wal-khataya kama yunaqqath-thawbul-abyadu
minad-danas, wa abdilhu bi darihi daran khayran min darihi, wa ahlan
khayran min ahlili, wa qihi fitnatal-qabri wa ‘adhaban-nar. (O
Allah,
send blessing upon him, forgive him, have mercy on him, keep
him safe
and sound, and pardon him; wash him with water and snow and
hail, and
cleanse him of sins just as a white garment is cleansed of
dirt. Give
him in exchange for his house that is better than his
house, and a
family that is better than his family. Protect him from
the trial of
the grave and the torment of the Fire).’”
Sunan Ibn Majah Book 6, Hadith 68
Ziyad related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Amra bint Abd
ar-Rahman from A'isha that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him
and grant him peace, once wanted to do itikaf, and when he went off to
the place where he wanted to do itikaf he found some tents there,
which were A'isha's tent, Hafsa's tent, and Zaynab's tent. When he saw
them he asked about them and someone told him that they were the tents
of A'isha, Hafsa and Zaynab. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless
him and grant him peace, said, "Do you think them devout?" Then he
left, and did not do itikaf until Shawwal, when he then did it for ten
days.
