The Prophet said: "Whoever uses stones to clean himself, let him use an odd number of stones. Whoever does that has done well, and whoever does not, there is no harm in it. Whoever uses a tooth stick should spit out (whatever he removes) and whoever removes (the particle of food) by dislodging it with his tongue should swallow it. Whoever does that has done well, and whoever does not, tere is no harm in it. Whoever goes to the toilet should conceal himself, and if he cannot find anything except a pile of sand (behind which to conceal himself), then he should use that, for the Shaitan plays with the backside of the son of Adam. Whoever does that has done well, and whoever does not, there is no harm in it."
Sunan Ibn Majah Book 1, Hadith 71
Would that you approached Abdullah b. Ubayy (to persuade him to accept Islam). The Prophet (ﷺ) (accordingly) went to him, riding a donkey, and (a party of) Muslims also went (with him). On the way they had to walk over a piece of land affected with salinity. When the Prophet (ﷺ) approached him, he said: Do not come near me. By Allah, the obnoxious smell of your donkey has offended me. (As a rejoinder to this remark), a man from the Ansar said: By God, the smell of the donkey of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) is better than your smell. (At this), a man from the tribe of 'Abdullah got furious. Then people from both sides got furious and exchanged blows with sticks, hands and shoes. (The narrator says) that (after this scuffle) we learnt that (the Quranic verse):" It two parties of the Believers have a quarrel, make ye peace between them" (xlix. 9) was revealed about these fighting parties.
Sahih Muslim Book 32, Hadith 143
(from his father) Abu Qatada went out (on a journey) with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) but he was left behind with
some of his companions who were in the state of Ihram. He himself was not in the state of Ihram.
They saw an opener before he could see it. When they saw the opener, they did not speak anything till
Abu Qatada saw it. So, he rode over his horse called Al-Jarada and requested them to give him his
lash, but they refused. So, he himself took it and then attacked the opener and slaughtered it. He ate of
its meat and his companions ate, too, but they regretted their eating. When they met the Prophet (they
asked him about it) and he asked, "Have you some of its meat (left) with you?" Abu Qatada replied,
"Yes, we have its leg with us." So, the Prophet (ﷺ) took and ate it.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 56, Hadith 70
Hafsa bint Seereen said, "On Id we used to forbid our girls to go out for `Id prayer. A lady came and
stayed at the palace of Bani Khalaf and I went to her. She said, 'The husband of my sister took part in
twelve holy battles along with the Prophet (ﷺ) and my sister was with her husband in six of them. My
sister said that they used to nurse the sick and treat the wounded. Once she asked, 'O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)!
If a woman has no veil, is there any harm if she does not come out (on `Id day)?' The Prophet (ﷺ) said,
'Her companion should let her share her veil with her, and the women should participate in the good
deeds and in the religious gatherings of the believers.' " Hafsa added, "When Um-`Atiya came, I went
to her and asked her, 'Did you hear anything about so-and-so?' Um-`Atiya said, 'Yes, let my father be
sacrificed for the Prophet (p.b.u.h). (And whenever she mentioned the name of the Prophet (ﷺ) she always
used to say, 'Let my father be' sacrificed for him). He said, 'Virgin mature girls staying often screened
(or said, 'Mature girls and virgins staying often screened--Aiyub is not sure as which was right) and
menstruating women should come out (on the `Id day). But the menstruating women should keep
away from the Musalla. And all the women should participate in the good deeds and in the religious
gatherings of the believers'." Hafsa said, "On that I said to Um-`Atiya, 'Also those who are
menstruating?' " Um-`Atiya replied, "Yes. Do they not present themselves at `Arafat and elsewhere?".
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 13, Hadith 29
Yahya related to me from Malik from Ishaq ibn Abdullah ibn Abi
Talha that at-Tufayl ibn Ubayy ibn Kab told him that he visited
Abdullah ibn Umar one morning and went out with him to the market, and
when they were out, Abdullah ibn Umar did not pass by anyone selling
poor merchandise or selling commodities or a needy person or anyone
but that he greeted them.
At-Tufayl said, "I came to Abdullah
ibn Umar one day and he asked me to follow him to the market. I said
to him, 'What will you do in the market if you will not stop to sell
nor seek any goods or barter with them or sit in any of the assemblies
or market?' Abdullah ibn Umar said that we should sit down and talk,
and then he explained, 'Abu Batni, (lit. father of the belly, at-
Tufayl had a prominent stomach), we go out in the morning only for the
sake of the greeting. We greet whomever we meet.' "
Muwatta Malik Book 53, Hadith 6
Zaynab said, "I heard my mother, Umm Salama, the wife of the
Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say that a woman
came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him
peace, and said, 'Messenger of Allah! My daughter's husband died, and
her eyes are troubling her, can she put kohl on them?' The Messenger
of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, 'No' two or
three times. Then he said, 'It is only four months and ten days. In
the Jahiliyya, none of you threw away the piece of dung until a year
had passed.' "
Humayd ibn Nafi said, "I asked Zaynab to
explain what 'throwing away the piece of dung at the end of a year'
meant. Zaynab said, 'In the Jahiliyya when a woman's husband died, she
went into a small tent and dressed in the worst of clothes. She did
not touch perfume or anything until a year had passed. Then she was
brought an animal - a donkey, a sheep, or a bird, and she would break
her idda with it, by rubbing her body against it (taftaddu). Rarely
did she break her idda with anything (by rubbing herself against it)
but that it died. Then she would come out and would be given a piece
of dung. She would throw it away and then return to whatever she
wished of perfumes or whatever.' "
Malik explained,
'Taftaddu' means to wipe her skin with it in the same way as with a
healing charm."
Muwatta Malik Book 29, Hadith 114
The people said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! The rich people have got the highest degrees of prestige and the
permanent pleasures (in this life and the life to come in the Hereafter)." He said, "How is that?" They
said, "The rich pray as we pray, and strive in Allah's Cause as we do, and spend from their surplus
wealth in charity, while we have no wealth (to spend likewise)." He said, "Shall I not tell you a thing,
by doing which, you will catch up with those who are ahead of you and supersede those who will
come after you; and nobody will be able to do such a good deed as you do except the one who does
the same (deed as you do). That deed is to recite 'Subhan Allah ten times, and 'Al-Hamduli l-lah ten
times, and 'AllahuAkbar' ten times after every prayer."
