Yahya related to me from Malik that he had heard that Abdullah
ibn Abbas used to say, "The least difficult thing acceptable as a
sacrificial animal is a sheep."
Malik said, "That is what I
like most out of what I have heard about the matter, because Allah,
the Blessed and Exalted, says in His Book, 'O you who trust, do not
kill game while you are in ihram. Whoever of you kills it
intentionally, there shall be repayment the like of what he has slain,
from livestock, as shall be judged by two men of justice among you, a
sacrificial animal which will reach the Kaba, or food for poor people,
or the equivalent of that in fasting,' (Sura 5 ayat 95) and a sheep is
one of the animals which is judged to be acceptable as a sacrifice.
Allah has called it a sacrificial animal, and there is no dispute
among us about the matter. How, indeed, could anyone be in doubt about
the matter? A sheep is the kaffara for anything which does not reach
the extent of something for which a camel or a cow would be the
kaffara, and the kaffara for something which does not reach the extent
of something for which a sheep would be the kaffara is fasting, or
feeding poor people."
Muwatta Malik Book 20, Hadith 171
`AbdurRahman bin Abza said, "Ask Ibn `Abbas about these two Quranic Verses: 'Nor kill such life as
Allah has made sacred, Except for just cause.' (25.168) "And whoever kills a believer intentionally,
his recompense is Hell. (4.93)
So I asked Ibn `Abbas who said, "When the Verse that is in Sura-al-Furqan was revealed, the pagans
of Mecca said, 'But we have slain such life as Allah has made sacred, and we have invoked other gods
along with Allah, and we have also committed fornication.' So Allah revealed:-- 'Except those who
repent, believe, and do good-- (25.70)
So this Verse was concerned with those people. As for the Verse in Surat-an-Nisa (4-93), it means that
if a man, after understanding Islam and its laws and obligations, murders somebody, then his
punishment is to dwell in the (Hell) Fire forever." Then I mentioned this to Mujahid who said,
"Except the one who regrets (one's crime) . "
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 63, Hadith 80
Umar and a group of the companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) set out with the
Prophet to Ibn Saiyad. He found him playing with some boys near the
hillocks of Bani Maghala. Ibn Saiyad at that time was nearing his
puberty. He did not notice (the Prophet's presence) till the Prophet (ﷺ)
stroked him on the back with his hand and said, "Ibn Saiyad! Do you
testify that I am Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)?" Ibn Saiyad looked at him and said,
"I testify that you are the Apostle of the illiterates."
Then Ibn Saiyad asked the Prophet. "Do you testify that I am the
apostle of Allah?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said to him, "I believe in Allah and
His Apostles." Then the Prophet (ﷺ) said (to Ibn Saiyad). "What do you
see?" Ibn Saiyad replied, "True people and false ones visit me." The
Prophet said, "Your mind is confused as to this matter." The Prophet (ﷺ)
added, " I have kept something (in my mind) for you." Ibn Saiyad said,
"It is Ad-Dukh." The Prophet (ﷺ) said (to him), "Shame be on you! You
cannot cross your limits." On that 'Umar said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)!
Allow me to chop his head off." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "If he should be him
(i.e. Ad-Dajjal) then you cannot overpower him, and should he not be
him, then you are not going to benefit by murdering him."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 56, Hadith 261
I came to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and said: Allah's Messenger, we are in the land of the People of the Book, (so) we eat in their utensils, and (live) in a hunting region. where I hunt with, the help of my bow, and hunt with my trained dog, or with my dog which is not trained. So inform me what is lawful (Halal) for us out of that. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Regarding what you have mentioned of the fact that you live in the land belonging to the People of the Book and so you eat in their utensils, but if you can get utensils other than theirs, then don't eat in them; but if you do not find any, then wash them and eat in them. And regarding what you have mentioned about (your living) in a hunting region, what you hunt, (strike) with the help of your bow, recite the name of Allah (while shooting an arrow) and then eat; and what you catch with the help of your trained dog, recite the name of Allah (while letting oil) the dog and then eat it, and what you get with the help of your untrained dog, (if you find it alive) and slaughter it (according to the law of the Shari'ah), eat it.
