Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Said ibn al-
Musayyab that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant
him peace, travelled by night on the way back from Khaybar.Towards the
end of the night he stopped for a rest and told Bilal to stay awake to
keep watch for the subh prayer. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah
bless him and grant him peace, and his companions slept. Bilal stayed
on guard as long as was decreed for him and then he leant against his
riding camel facing the direction of the dawn and sleep overcame him
and neither he nor the Messenger of Allah nor any of the party woke up
until the sun's rays had struck them. The Messenger of Allah, may
Allah bless him and grant him peace, was alarmed. Bilal excused
himself, saying, "Messenger of Allah! The One who took your self was
the One who took myself. "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him
and grant him peace, ordered the party to move on and so they roused
thei r mounts and rode on a short distance. The Messenger of Allah,
may Allah bless him and grant him peace, ordered Bilal to give the
iqama and then led them in the subh prayer. When he had finished he
said, "Anyone who forgets a prayer should pray it when he remembers.
Allah theBlessed and Exalted says in His book, 'Establish the prayer
to remember Me.'"
Muwatta Malik Book 1, Hadith 25
(The Prophet) Solomon said, "Tonight I will sleep with (my) ninety wives, each of whom will get a
male child who will fight for Allah's Cause." On that, his companion (Sufyan said that his companion
was an angel) said to him, "Say, "If Allah will (Allah willing)." But Solomon forgot (to say it). He
slept with all his wives, but none of the women gave birth to a child, except one who gave birth to a
halfboy. Abu Huraira added: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "If Solomon had said, "If Allah will" (Allah willing),
he would not have been unsuccessful in his action, and would have attained what he had desired."
Once Abu Huraira added: Allah apostle said, "If he had accepted."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 84, Hadith 13
We went out to Khaibar in the company of the Prophet. While we were proceeding at night, a man
from the group said to 'Amir, "O 'Amir! Won't you let us hear your poetry?" 'Amir was a poet, so he
got down and started reciting for the people poetry that kept pace with the camels' footsteps, saying:--
"O Allah! Without You we Would not have been guided On the right path Neither would be have
given In charity, nor would We have prayed. So please forgive us, what we have committed (i.e. our
defects); let all of us Be sacrificed for Your Cause And send Sakina (i.e. calmness) Upon us to make
our feet firm When we meet our enemy, and If they will call us towards An unjust thing, We will
refuse. The infidels have made a hue and Cry to ask others' help Against us." The Prophet (ﷺ) on that,
asked, "Who is that (camel) driver (reciting poetry)?" The people said, "He is 'Amir bin Al-Akwa`."
Then the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "May Allah bestow His Mercy on him." A man amongst the people said, "O
Allah's Prophet! has (martyrdom) been granted to him. Would that you let us enjoy his company
longer." Then we reached and besieged Khaibar till we were afflicted with severe hunger. Then Allah
helped the Muslims conquer it (i.e. Khaibar). In the evening of the day of the conquest of the city, the
Muslims made huge fires. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "What are these fires? For cooking what, are you making
the fire?" The people replied, "(For cooking) meat." He asked, "What kind of meat?" They (i.e.
people) said, "The meat of donkeys." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Throw away the meat and break the pots!"
Some man said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Shall we throw away the meat and wash the pots instead?" He
said, "(Yes, you can do) that too." So when the army files were arranged in rows (for the clash),
'Amir's sword was short and he aimed at the leg of a Jew to strike it, but the sharp blade of the sword
returned to him and injured his own knee, and that caused him to die. When they returned from the
battle, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saw me (in a sad mood). He took my hand and said, "What is bothering you?" I
replied, "Let my father and mother be sacrificed for you! The people say that the deeds of 'Amir are
lost." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Whoever says so, is mistaken, for 'Amir has got a double reward." The
Prophet raised two fingers and added, "He (i.e. Amir) was a persevering struggler in the Cause of
Allah and there are few 'Arabs who achieved the like of (good deeds) 'Amir had done."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 64, Hadith 236
Allah sent (the Prophet) Muhammad and said:--
'Say, No wage do I ask of you for this (Quran) nor am I one of the pretenders (i.e. a person who
pretends things which do not exist). (38.68) When Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saw Quraish standing against him,
he said, "O Allah! Help me against them by afflicting them with seven years of famine similar to the
seven years (of famine) of Joseph. So they were afflicted with a year of drought that destroyed
everything, and they ate bones and hides. (One of them said), "And they ate hides and dead animals,
and (it seemed to them that) something like smoke was coming out of the earth. So Abu Sufyan came
to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, "O Muhammad! Your people are on the verge of destruction! Please invoke
Allah to relieve them." So the Prophet (ﷺ) invoked Allah for them (and the famine disappeared). He said
to them. "You will revert (to heathenism) after that." `Abdullah then recited:
'Then watch you for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke plainly visible.......but truly
you will revert (to disbelief).' He added, "Will the punishment be removed from them in the
Hereafter? The smoke and the grasp and the Al-Lizam have all passed." One of the sub-narrater said,
"The splitting of the moon." And another said, "The defeat of the Romans (has passed).
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 65, Hadith 346
I never saw anyone more like the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in respect of gravity, calm deportment, pleasant disposition - according to al-Hasan's version: in respect of talk and speech. Al-Hasan did not mention gravity, calm deportment, pleasant disposition - than Fatimah, may Allah honour her face. When she came to visit him (the Prophet) he got up to (welcome) her, took her by the hand, kissed her and made her sit where he was sitting; and when he went to visit her, she got up to (welcome) him, took him by the hand, kissed him, and made him sit where she was sitting.
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 43, Hadith 445
A woman came to Allah's Messenger. (ﷺ) and said: Messenger of Allah, I have come to you to entrust myself to you (you may contract my marriage with anyone at your discretion). Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saw her and cast a glance at her from head to foot. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) then lowered his head. When the woman saw that he had made no decision in regard to her, she sat down. There stood up a person from amongst his companions and said: Messenger of Allah, marry her to me if you have no need of her. He (the Prophet) said: is there anything with you (which you con give as a dower)? He said: No, Messenger of Allah, by Allah I have nothing. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: Go to your people (family) and see if you can find something. He returned and said: I have found nothing. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: See even if it is an iron ring. He went and returned and said: No, by Allah, not even an iron ring, but only this lower garment of mine (Sahl said that he had no upper garment), half of which (I am prepared to part with) for her. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: How can your lower garment serve your purpose, for it you wear it, she would not be able to make any use of it and if she wears it there would not be anything on you? The man sat down and as the sitting prolonged he stood up (in disappointment) and as he was going back Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) commanded (him) to be called back, and as he came, he said to him: Do you know any part of the Quran? He said: I know such and such surahs (and he counted them), whereupon he (ﷺ) said: Can you recite them from heart (from your memory)? He said: Yes, whereupon he (Allah's Messenger) said: Go, I have given her to you in marriage for the part of the Quran which you know.
