There passed a bier (being carried by people) and it was lauded in good terms. Upon this the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: It has become certain, it has become certain, it has become certain. And there passed a bier and it was condemned in bad words. Upon this the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: It has become certain, it has become certain, it has become certain. 'Umar said: May my father and mother be ransom for you! There passed a bier and it was praised in good terms, and you said: It has become certain, it has become certain, it has become certain. And there passed a bier and it was condemned in bad words, and you said: It has become certain, it has become certain, it has become certain. Upon this the Messenger of Allah (way peace be upon him) said: He whom you praised in good terms, Paradise has become certain for him, and he whom you condemned in bad words, Hell has become certain for him. You are Allah's witnesses in the earth, you are Allah's witnesses in the earth, you are Allah's witnesses in the earth.
Sahih Muslim Book 11, Hadith 78
Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Muhammad ibn
Talhafrom Uthman ibn Abd ar-Rahman that his father related to him that
he had heard that Umar ibn al-Khattab used to wash what was beneath
his waist wrapper with water.
Yahya said that Malik was asked what a man should do if, when he
did wudu, he forgot and washed his face before he had rinsed his
mouth, or washed his forearms before he had washed his face. He said,
"If someone washes his face before rinsing his mouth, he should rinse
his mouth and not wash his face again. If someone washes his forearms
before his face, however, he should wash his forearms again so that he
has washed them after his face. This is if he is still near the place
(of wudu)."
Yahya said that Malik was asked about what a man should do if he
had forgotten to rinse his mouth and nose until he had prayed, and he
said, "He does not have to repeat the prayer, but should rinse his
mouth and nose if he wishes to do any more prayers after that."
Muwatta Malik Book 2, Hadith 6
I spent a night with my maternal aunt (sister of my mother) Maimuna. The Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) got up during the night and relieved himself, then washed his face and hands and went to sleep. He then got up again, and came to the water skin and loosened its straps, then performed good ablution between the two extremes. He then stood up and observed prayer. I also stood up and stretched my body fearing that he might be under the impression that I was there to find out (what he did at night). So I also performed ablution and stood up to pray, but I stood on his left. He took hold of my hand and made me go around to his right side. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) completed thirteen rak`ahs of his night prayer. He then lay down and slept and snored (and it was his habit to snore while asleep). Then Bilal came and he informed him about the prayer. He (the Holy Prophet) then stood up for prayer and did not perform ablution, and his supplication included these words: "O Allah, place light in my heart, light in my sight, light in my hearing, light on my right hand, light on my left hand, light above me, light below me, light in front of me, light behind me, and enhance light for me."
Kuraib (the narrator) said: There are seven (words more) which are in my heart (but I cannot recall them) and I met some of the descendants of Al-`Abbas and they narrated these words to me and mentioned in them: (Light) in my sinew, in my flesh, in my blood, in my hair, in my skin, and made a mention of two more things.
Sahih Muslim Book 6, Hadith 216
My father said, "One night we were traveling with the Prophet (ﷺ) and some people said, 'We wish that
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) would take a rest along with us during the last hours of the night.' He said, 'I am afraid
that you will sleep and miss the (Fajr) prayer.' Bilal said, 'I will make you get up.' So all slept and
Bilal rested his back against his Rahila and he too was overwhelmed (by sleep) and slept. The Prophet (ﷺ)
got up when the edge of the sun had risen and said, 'O Bilal! What about your statement?' He replied,
'I have never slept such a sleep.' The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'Allah captured your souls when He wished, and
released them when He wished. O Bilal! Get up and pronounce the Adhan for the prayer.' The Prophet (ﷺ)
performed ablution and when the sun came up and became bright, he stood up and prayed."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 9, Hadith 70
"My wife and I stopped at Baqi Al-Gharqad, and my wife said to me: 'Go to the Messenger of Allah and ask him to give us something to eat. ' So I went to the Messenger of Allah and found a man with him asking him (for something), and the Messenger of Allah was saying: 'I do not have anything to give to you.' The man turned away angrily, saying: 'You only give to those you want. 'The Messenger of Allah said: 'He is angry with me because I did not have anything to give him. Whoever asks of you and he has an Uqiyah or its equivalent, then he has been too demanding in asking."' Al-Asadi said: I said: 'Our milch-camel is worth more than an Uqiyah, 'and an Uqiyah is forty Dirhams. "So I went back and did not ask him for anything. Then the Messenger of Allah got some barley and raisins after that, and he gave us a share of them, until Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, made us independent of means."
