Aisha said that whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) intended to go on a journey, he drew lots among his wives (so as
to take one of them along with him). During one of his journeys the lot fell on `Aisha and Hafsa.
When night fell the Prophet (ﷺ) would ride beside `Aisha and talk with her. One night Hafsa said to
`Aisha, "Won't you ride my camel tonight and I ride yours, so that you may see (me) and I see (you)
(in new situation)?" `Aisha said, "Yes, (I agree.)" So `Aisha rode, and then the Prophet (ﷺ) came towards
`Aisha's camel on which Hafsa was riding. He greeted Hafsa and then proceeded (beside her) till they
dismounted (on the way). `Aisha missed him, and so, when they dismounted, she put her legs in the
Idhkhir and said, "O Lord (Allah)! Send a scorpion or a snake to bite me for I am not to blame him
(the Prophet (ﷺ) ).
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 67, Hadith 144
"Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, and His Messenger have forbidden the sale of alcohol, dead meat, pigs and idols." It was said to him: "O Messenger of Allah, what do you think of their fat of dead animals, for it is used to caulk ships, it is daubed on animal skins, and people use it to light their lamps?" He said: "No, it is unlawful." Then the Messenger of Allah said: "May Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, curse the Jews, for Allah forbade them the fat (of dead animals) but they rendered it, sold it, and consumed its price."
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 41, Hadith 35
Yahya said that he heard Malik say, "What is done in our
community about some one who gives a gift not intending a reward is
that he calls witnesses to it. It is affirmed for the one to whom it
has been given unless the giver dies before the one to whom it was
given receives the gift."
He said, "If the giver wants to
keep the gift after he has had it witnessed, he cannot. If the
recipient claims it from him, he takes it."
Malik said, "If
some one gives a gift and then withdraws it and the recipient brings a
witness to testify for him that he was given the gift, be it goods,
gold, silver or animals, the recipient is made to take an oath. If he
refuses, the giver is made to take an oath. If he also refuses to take
an oath, he gives to the recipient what he claims from him if he has
at least one witness. If he does not have a witness, he has nothing .
"
Malik said, "If someone gives a gift not expecting anything
in return and then the recipient dies, the heirs are in his place. If
the giver dies before the recipient has received his gift, the
recipient has nothing. That is because he was given a gift which he
did not take possession of. If the giver wants to keep it, and he has
called witnesses to the gift, he cannot do that. If the recipient
claims his right he takes it."
Muwatta Malik Book 36, Hadith 57
A man passed by Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and Allah s Apostle asked (his companions) "What do you say about
this (man)?" They replied "If he asks for a lady's hand, he ought to be given her in marriage; and if he
intercedes (for someone) his intercessor should be accepted; and if he speaks, he should be listened
to." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) kept silent, and then a man from among the poor Muslims passed by, an Allah's
Apostle asked (them) "What do you say about this man?" They replied, "If he asks for a lady's hand in
marriage he does not deserve to be married, and he intercedes (for someone), his intercession should
not be accepted; And if he speaks, he should not be listened to.' Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "This poor man
is better than so many of the first as filling the earth.'
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 67, Hadith 29
Yahya related to me that Malik said that he had heard that Umar
ibn Abd al-Aziz used to say, "The man on horse-back has two shares,
and the man on foot has one."
Malik added, "I continue to
hear the same."
Malik, when asked whether a man who was
present with several horses took a share for all of them, said, "I
have never heard that. I think that there is only a share for the
horse on which he fought."
Malik said, "I think that foreign
horses and half-breeds are considered as horses because Allah, the
Blessed, the Exalted, said in His Book, 'All horses, and mules, and
asses, for you to ride, and as an adornment.' (Sura16 ayat 8). He
said, the Mighty, the Majestic, 'Make ready for them whatever force
and strings of horses you can, to terrify thereby the enemy of Allah
and your enemy.' (Sura 8 ayat 60). I think that foreign breeds and
half-breeds are considered as horses if the governor accepts them."
Said ibn al-Musayyab was asked about working horses, and
whether there was zakat on them. He said, "Is there any zakat on
horses.?"
Muwatta Malik Book 21, Hadith 23
“O Nafi’! The blood is boiling
in
me, find me a cupper, but let it be someone gentle if you can, not
an
old man or a young boy. For I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)
say:
‘Cupping on an empty stomach is better, and in it there is
healing
and blessing, and it increases one’s intellect and memory. So
have
yourselves cupped for the blessing of Allah on Thursdays, and
avoid
cupping on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Have
yourselves cupped on Mondays and Tuesdays, for that is the day on
which Allah relieved Ayyub of Calamity, and He inflicted calamity
upon
him on a Wednesday, and leprosy and leucoderma only appear on
Wednesdays, or on the night of Wednesday.”
Sunan Ibn Majah Book 31, Hadith 52
Zainab, the wife of `Abdullah said, "I was in the Mosque and saw the Prophet (p.b.u.h) saying, 'O
women ! Give alms even from your ornaments.' " Zainab used to provide for `Abdullah and those
orphans who were under her protection. So she said to `Abdullah, "Will you ask Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)
whether it will be sufficient for me to spend part of the Zakat on you and the orphans who are under
my protection?" He replied "Will you yourself ask Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ?" (Zainab added): So I went to the
Prophet and I saw there an Ansari woman who was standing at the door (of the Prophet (ﷺ) ) with a
similar problem as mine. Bilal passed by us and we asked him, 'Ask the Prophet (ﷺ) whether it is
permissible for me to spend (the Zakat) on my husband and the orphans under my protection.' And we
requested Bilal not to inform the Prophet (ﷺ) about us. So Bilal went inside and asked the Prophet (ﷺ)
regarding our problem. The Prophet (p.b.u.h) asked, "Who are those two?" Bilal replied that she was
Zainab. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Which Zainab?" Bilal said, "The wife of `Abdullah (bin Mas`ud)." The
Prophet said, "Yes, (it is sufficient for her) and she will receive a double rewards (for that): One for
helping relatives, and the other for giving Zakat."
