The Prophet (ﷺ) went to visit a sick bedouin. Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) went to a patient, he used to say to
him, "Don't worry, if Allah will, it will be expiation (for your sins):" The bedouin said, "You say
expiation? No, it is but a fever that is boiling or harassing an old man and will lead him to his grave
without his will." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Then, yes, it is so."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 75, Hadith 16
Dimad came to Mecca and he belonged to the tribe of Azd Shanu'a, and he used to protect the person who was under the influence of charm. He heard the foolish people of Mecca say that Muhammad (ﷺ) was under the spell. Upon this he said: If 1 were to come across this man, Allah might cure him at my hand. He met him and said: Muhammad, I can protect (one) who is under the influence of charm, and Allah cures one whom He so desires at my hand. Do you desire (this)? Upon this the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Praise is due to Allah, we praise Him, ask His help; and he whom Allah guides aright there is none to lead him astray, and he who is led astray there is none to guide him, and I bear testimony to the fact that there is no god but Allah, He is One, having no partner with Him, and that Muhammad is His Servant and Messenger. Now after this he (Dimad) said: Repeat these words of yours before me, and the messenger of Allah (ﷺ) repeated these to him thrice; and he said I have heard the words of soothsayers and the words of magicians, and the words of poets, but I have never heard such words as yours, and they reach the depth (of the ocean of eloquence) ; bring forth your hand so that I should take oath of fealty to you on Islam. So he took an oath of allegiance to him. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: It (this allegiance of yours) is on behalf of your people too. He said: It is on behalf of my people too. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sent an expedition and the flying column passed by his people. The leader of the flying column said to the detachment: Did you find anything from these people? One of the people said: I found a utensil for water. Upon this he (the commander) said: Return it, for he is one of the people of Dimad.
Sahih Muslim Book 7, Hadith 58
Zaynab, the wife of Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, told that Abdullah said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying: spells, charms and love-potions are polytheism.
I asked: Why do you say this? I swear by Allah, when my eye was discharging I used to go to so-and-so, the Jew, who applied a spell to me. When he applied the spell to me, it calmed down. Abdullah said:
That was just the work of the Devil who was picking it with his hand, and when he uttered the spell on it, he desisted. All you need to do is to say as the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say: Remove the harm, O Lord of men, and heal. Thou art the Healer. There is no remedy but Thine which leaves no disease behind.
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 29, Hadith 29
That the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Both the buyer and the seller retain the option as long as they have not separated. If they spoke the truth and clarified (any defects or conditions), then they would be blessed in their sale, and if they hid something and lied then their sale would be deprived of blessings."
And this is a Sahih Hadith.
This is how it was reported from Abu Barzah Al-Aslami, that two men came disputing to him after the sale of a horse, and they were on a ship, so he said: "I did not see the two of your separate, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'The buyer and the seller retain the choice as long as they did not separate.'"
Some of the people of knowledge, among the people of Al-Kufah and others, held the view that the separation refers to speech. This is the saying of Ath-Thawri. This has been reported from Malik bin Anas, and it has been reported from Ibn al-Mubarak that he said: "How could this be refuted ?" And the Hadith about it from the Prophet (ﷺ) is Sahih, and it strenghtens this view.
And the meaning of the saying of the Prophet (ﷺ): "Except for the optional sale" is, that (while they are still together) the seller gives the buyer the option to cancel after the conclusion of the sale. If he chooses to agree to the sale, then he does not have the choice to cancel the sale after then, even if they did not separate. This is how Ash-Shafi'i and others explained it. And what strenghtens the view of those who said that the separation refers to them parting, (and) it does not refer to speech, is the (following) Hadith of 'Abdullah bin 'Amr from the Prophet (ﷺ).
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 14, Hadith 46
`Abdur-Rahman bin `Auf came (from Mecca to Medina) and the Prophet (ﷺ) made a bond of brotherhood
between him and Sa`d bin Ar-Rabi` Al-Ansari. Al-Ansari had two wives, so he suggested that `Abdur-
Rahman take half, his wives and property. `Abdur-Rahman replied, "May Allah bless you with your
wives and property. Kindly show me the market." So `Abdur-Rahman went to the market and gained
(in bargains) some dried yoghurt and some butter. After a few days the Prophet (ﷺ) saw `Abdur-Rahman
with some yellow stains on his clothes and asked him, "What is that, O `Abdur-Rahman?" He replied,
"I had married an Ansari woman." The Prophet (ﷺ) asked, "How much Mahr did you give her?" He
replied, "The weight of one (date) stone of gold." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Offer a banquet, even with one
sheep."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 67, Hadith 10
Some of the companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) went on a journey till they reached some of the 'Arab tribes (at
night). They asked the latter to treat them as their guests but they refused. The chief of that tribe was
then bitten by a snake (or stung by a scorpion) and they tried their best to cure him but in vain. Some
of them said (to the others), "Nothing has benefited him, will you go to the people who resided here at
night, it may be that some of them might possess something (as treatment)," They went to the group of
the companions (of the Prophet (ﷺ) ) and said, "Our chief has been bitten by a snake (or stung by a
scorpion) and we have tried everything but he has not benefited. Have you got anything (useful)?"
One of them replied, "Yes, by Allah! I can recite a Ruqya, but as you have refused to accept us as
your guests, I will not recite the Ruqya for you unless you fix for us some wages for it." They agrees
to pay them a flock of sheep. One of them then went and recited (Surat-ul-Fatiha): 'All the praises are
for the Lord of the Worlds' and puffed over the chief who became all right as if he was released from a
chain, and got up and started walking, showing no signs of sickness.
They paid them what they agreed to pay. Some of them (i.e. the companions) then suggested to divide
their earnings among themselves, but the one who performed the recitation said, "Do not divide them
till we go to the Prophet (ﷺ) and narrate the whole story to him, and wait for his order." So, they went to
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and narrated the story. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) asked, "How did you come to know that Suratul-
Fatiha was recited as Ruqya?" Then he added, "You have done the right thing. Divide (what you
have earned) and assign a share for me as well." The Prophet (ﷺ) smiled thereupon.
