The news of my fasting was mentioned to the Prophet (ﷺ) . So he entered upon me and I put for him a
leather cushion stuffed with palm-fibres. The Prophet (ﷺ) sat on the floor and the cushion was between me
and him. He said to me, "Isn't it sufficient for you (that you fast) three days a month?" I said, "O
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! (I can fast more than this)." He said, "You may fast) five days a month." I said, "O
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! (I can fast more than this)." He said, "(You may fast) seven days." I said, "O Allah's
Apostle!" He said, "Nine." I said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)!" He said, "Eleven." I said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)!"
He said, "No fasting is superior to the fasting of (the Prophet (ﷺ) David) which was one half of a year, and
he used, to fast on alternate days. (See Hadith No. 300, Vol 3)
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 79, Hadith 51
Messenger of Allah, has there come upon you a day more terrible than the day of Uhud. He said: I have experienced from thy people and the hardest treatment I met from them was what I received from them on the day of `Aqaba. I betook myself to Ibn `Abd Yalil b. `Abd Kulal with the purpose of inviting him to Islam, but he did not respond to me as I desired. So I departed with signs of (deep) distress on my face. I did not recover until I reached Qarn al-Tha`alib. Where I raised my head, lo! near me was a cloud which had cast its shadow on me. I looked and lo! there was in it the angel Jibril who called out to me and said: God, the Honoured and Glorious, has heard what thy people have said to thee, and how they have reacted to thy call. And He has sent to thee the angel in charge of the mountains so that thou mayest order him what thou wishest (him to do) with regard to them. The angel in charge of the mountains (then) called out to me, greeted me and said: Muhammad, God has listened to what thy people have said to thee. I am the angel in charge of the mountains, and thy Lord has sent me to thee so that thou mayest order me what thou wishest. If thou wishest that I should bring together the two mountains that stand opposite to each other at the extremities of Mecca to crush them in between, (I would do that). But the Messenger of Allah (may peace he upon him) said to him: I rather hope that God will produce from their descendants such persons as will worship Allah, the One, and will not ascribe partners to Him.
Sahih Muslim Book 32, Hadith 135
`Aisha said, "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) in his fatal illness, used to ask, 'Where will I be tomorrow? Where will I
be tomorrow?", seeking `Aisha's turn. His wives allowed him to stay wherever he wished. So he
stayed at `Aisha's house till he expired while he was with her." `Aisha added, "The Prophet (ﷺ) expired on
the day of my turn in my house and he was taken unto Allah while his head was against my chest and
his saliva mixed with my saliva." `Aisha added, "Abdur-Rahman bin Abu Bakr came in, carrying a
Siwak he was cleaning his teeth with. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) looked at it and I said to him, 'O
`AbdurRahman! Give me this Siwak.' So he gave it to me and I cut it, chewed it (it's end) and gave it
to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) who cleaned his teeth with it while he was resting against my chest."
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 64, Hadith 470
If anyone observes a prayer in which he does not recite Umm al-Quran, it is incomplete, it is incomplete, it is incomplete, and deficient. (The narrator said) I said: Abu Hurairah, sometime I pray behind the imam(then what should I do)? Pressing my hand he replied: O Persian, recite it inwardly, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) as saying that Allah, Most High, has said: I have Me and the Half for my servant and My servant will receive what he asks. The Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) said: Recite. When the servant says: “praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Universe,” Allah, Most High says: “My servant has praised me.” When the servant says: “ The Compassionate, the merciful, “Allah Most High says: “My servant has lauded me.” When the servant says: “Owner of the Day of Judgment,” Allah, Most High, says: “My servant has glorified Me” When the servant says: “ Thee do we worship and of thee we ask help. “ (Allah says) “This is between Me and My servant, and My servant will receive what he asks.” When the servant says: “ Guide us to the Straight Path, the path of those whom thou hast favoured, not ( the path) of those who earn thine anger nor of those who go astray,”(Allah says: ) “This is for My servant, and My servant will receive what he asks.”
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 2, Hadith 431
Malik related to me that he had heard that Abdullah ibn Umar was
asked whether a slave could be bought on the specific condition that
it was to be used to fulfil the obligation of freeing a slave, and he
said, "No."
Malik said, "That is the best of what I have
heard on the obligation of freeing slaves. Someone who has to set a
slave free because of an obligation on him, may not buy one on the
condition that he sets it free because if he does that, whatever he
buys is not completely a slave because he has reduced its price by the
condition he has made of setting it free."
Malik added,
"There is no harm, however, in someone buying a person expressly to
set him free."
Malik said, "The best of what I have heard on
the obligation of freeing slaves is that it is not permitted to free a
christian or a jew to fulfil it, and one does not free a mukatab or a
mudabbar or an umm walad or a slave to be freed after a certain number
of years, or a blind person. There is no harm in freeing a christian,
jew, or magian voluntarily, because Allah, the Blessed, the Exalted,
said in His Book, 'either as a favour then or by ransom,' (Sura 47
ayat 4) The favour is setting free."
Malik said, "As for
obligations of freeing slaves which Allah has mentioned in the Book,
one only frees a mumin slave for them."
Malik said, "It is
like that in feeding poor people for kaffara. One must only feed
muslims and one does not feed anyone outside of the deen of Islam."
