When Allah gave Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) what he gave of the properties of the Hawazin tribe as a war booty,
the Prophet (ﷺ) started giving some men 100 camels each. The Ansar (then) said, "May Allah forgive
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)s as he gives to Quraish and leaves us although our swords are still dribbling with the
blood of Quraish." Allah Apostle was informed of their statement, so he sent for the Ansar and
gathered them in a leather tent, and did not call anybody else along with them. When they al I
gathered, the Prophet (ﷺ) got up and said, "What is this talk being informed to me about you?" The
learned men amongst the Ansar said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Our chiefs did not say anything, but some
people amongst us who are younger in age said. 'May Allah forgive Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as he gives (of the
booty) to Quraish and leaves us though our swords are still dribbling with their blood." The Prophet (ﷺ)
said, "I give to these men who have newly deserted heathenism (and embraced Islam) so as to attract
their hearts. Won't you be happy that the people take the wealth while you take the Prophet (ﷺ) with you
to your homes? By Allah, what you are taking is better than whatever they are taking." They (i.e. the
Ansar) said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! We are satisfied." The Prophet (ﷺ) then said to them. "You will find
others favored over you greatly, so be patient till you meet Allah and His Apostle and I will be at the
Tank then." Anas added: But they did not remain patient.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 64, Hadith 360
"The Messenger of Allah every time he stopped (on his journey). And I often heard him say: 'Allahumma, inni a'udhu bika min al-harami, wal-huzni, wal-'ajzi, wal-kasali, wal-bukhli, wal-jubni, wa dala'id-dain, wa ghalabatir-rijal (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from old age, grief, incapacity, laziness, miserliness, cowardice, the burden of debt and being overpowered by men.)'"
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 50, Hadith 76
On the authority of his father (Sa'd) and his grandfather (Dumayrah) (according to Musa's version) who were present in the battle of Hunayn with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): After the advent of Islam, Muhallam ibn Jaththamah al-Laythi killed a man of Ashja'.
That was the first blood-money decided by the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) (for payment). Uyaynah spoke about the killing of al-Ashja'i, for he belonged to Ghatafan, and al-Aqra' ibn Habis spoke on behalf of Muhallam, for he belonged to Khunduf. The voices rose high, and the dispute and noise grew.
So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Do you not accept blood-money, Uyaynah?
Uyaynah then said: No, I swear by Allah, until I cause his women to suffer the same fighting and grief as he caused my women to suffer. Again the voices rose high, and the dispute and noise grew.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Do you not accept the blood-money Uyaynah? Uyaynah gave the same reply as before, and a man of Banu Layth called Mukaytil stood up. He had a weapon and a skin shield in his hand.
He said: I do not find in the beginning of Islam any illustration for what he has done except the one that "some sheep came on, and those in the front were shot; hence those in the rear ran away". (The other example is that) "make a law today and change it."
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Fifty (camels) here immediately and fifty when we return to Medina. This happened during some of his journeys. Muhallam was a tall man of dark complexion. He was with the people. They continued (to make effort for him) until he was released. He sat before the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), with his eyes flowing.
He said: Messenger of Allah! I have done (the act) of which you have been informed. I repent to Allah, the Exalted, so ask Allah's forgiveness for me. Messenger of Allah!
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) then said: Did you kill him with your weapon at the beginning of Islam. O Allah! do not forgive Muhallam. He said these words loudly.
AbuSalamah added: He (Muhallam) then got up while he was wiping his tears with the end of his garment.
Ibn Ishaq said: His people alleged that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) asked forgiveness for him after that.
Abu Dawud said: Al-Nadr b. Shumail said: al-ghiyar means blood-wit.
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 41, Hadith 10
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sent an army to Banu al-Anbar. They captured them at Rukbah in the suburbs of at-Ta'if and drove them to the Holy Prophet (ﷺ).
I rode hurriedly to the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) and said: Peace be on you, Messenger of Allah, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Your contingent came to us and arrested us, but we had already embraced Islam and cut the sides of the ears of our cattle.
When Banu al-Anbar arrived, the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said to me: Have you any evidence that you had embraced Islam before you were captured today?
I said: Yes. He said: Who is your witness? I said: Samurah, a man from Banu al-Anbar, and another man whom he named. The man testified but Samurah refused to testify. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said: He (Samurah) has refused to testify for you, so take an oath with your other witness. I said: Yes. He then dictated an oath to me and I swore to the effect that we had embraced Islam on a certain day, and that we had cut the sides of the ears of the cattle.
The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said: Go and divide half of their property, but do not touch their children. Had Allah not disliked the wastage of action, we should not have taxed you even a rope.
Zubayb said: My mother called me and said: This man has taken my mattress. I then went to the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) and informed him.
He said to me: Detain him. So I caught him with a garment around his neck, and stood there with him . Then the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) looked at us standing there. He asked: What do you intend (doing) with your captive?
I said: I shall let him go free if he returns to this (man) the mattress of his mother which he has taken from her.
He said: Prophet of Allah (ﷺ), I no longer have it.
He said: The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) took the sword of the man and gave it to me, and said to him: Go and give him some sa's of cereal. So he gave me some sa's of barley.
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 25, Hadith 42
"I heard my father say, that he heard his grandfather Al-Harith bin 'Amr, that he met the Messenger of Allah during the Farewell Pilgrimage, when he was atop his slit-eared camel. (He said): 'I said: O Messenger of Allah, May my father and mother be ransomed for you; pray for forgiveness for me. He said: May Allah forgive you (plural). Then I came to him from the other side, hoping that he would supplicate just for me alone, and not them. I said: O Messenger of Allah, pray for forgiveness for me. He said: May Allah forgive you (plural). Then a man among the people said: O Messenger of Allah, (what about) the 'Atirah and Fara'? He said: Whoever wishes to offer and 'Atirah may do so, and whoever does not wish to, may not. Whoever wishes to offer a Fara' may do so, and whoever does not wish to, may not. And with regard to sheep, a sacrifice should be offered. And he clasped between his fingers except for one."'
Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 41, Hadith 5
concerning the Verse: 'Do not prevent them' (2.232) Ma'qil bin Yasar told me that it was revealed in
his connection. He said, "I married my sister to a man and he divorced her, and when her days of 'Idda
(three menstrual periods) were over, the man came again and asked for her hand, but I said to him, 'I
married her to you and made her your bed (your wife) and favored you with her, but you divorced her.
Now you come to ask for her hand again? No, by Allah, she will never go back to you (again)!' That
man was not a bad man and his wife wanted to go back to him. So Allah revealed this Verse: 'Do not
prevent them.' (2.232) So I said, 'Now I will do it (let her go back to him), O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)."So he
married her to him again.
Sahih al-Bukhari Book 67, Hadith 66
Yahya related to me from Malik from Hisham ibn Urwa from his
father fromYahyaibn Abd ar-Rahman ibn Ha ib that he had set off for
Mumra with Umar ibn al-Khattab in a party of riders, among whom was
Amr ibn al-As. Umar ibn al-Khattab dismounted for a rest late at night
on a certain road near a certain oasis. Umar had a wet dream when it
was almost dawn and there was no water among the riding party. He rode
until he came to some water and then he began to wash off what he saw
of the semen until it had gone. Amr ibn al-As said to him, "It is
morning and there are clothes with us, so allow your garment to be
washed. ''Umar ibn al-Khattab said to him, "I am surprised at you, Amr
ibn al-As! Even if you could find clothes, would everybody be able to
find them? By Allah, if I were to do it, it would become a sunna. No,
I wash what I see, and I sprinkle with water what I do not see."
Malik spoke about a man who found traces of a wet dream on his
clothes and did not know when it had occurred and did not remember
anything he had seen in his sleep. He said, "Let the intention of his
ghusl be from the time when he last slept, and if he has prayed since
that last sleep he should repeat it. This is because often a man has a
wet dream and sees nothing, and often he sees something but does not
have an emission. But, if he finds liquid on his garment he must do
ghusl. This is because Umar repeated what he had prayed after the time
he had last slept and not what was before it."
