He said: "What has prevented you from yielding when I have ordered you?" He said: "I am far better than him, You created me from fire and created him from clay!"

God said, ‘What prevented you from bowing down as I commanded you?’ and he said, ‘I am better than him: You created me from fire and him from clay.’

(Allah) said: “What prevented you (O Satan) that you did not prostrate, when I commanded you?” Satan said: “I am better than him (Adam), You created me from fire, and You created him from clay.

Allah said: what prevented thee, that thou shouldst not prostrate thyself, when I bade thee? He said. I am better than he; me Thou createdest me from fire, and him Thou createdest from clay

"What prevented you" (said God), "from bowing (before Adam) at My bidding?" "I am better than him," said he. "You created me from fire, and him from clay."

(Allah) said, “What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?” (Iblis) said, “I am better than him. You created me from fire (radiation – a specific frequency based existence. Note that the word fire [naar] in this verse is the same as the word used in reference to hellfire. This is worth contemplating upon!) and created him from clay (matter).”

He said, 'what prevented you that you did not fall prostrate when I ordered you? Said he, I am better than him, You created me of fire and made him of clay.'

He said, ´What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you to?´ He replied, ´I am better than him. You created me from fire and You created him from clay.´

He (God) said: "What prevented you from prostrating, when I commanded you to do so?" Iblis said: "I am better than he, for You have created me from fire, and him You have created from clay."

Said He, ‘What prevented you from prostrating, when I commanded you?’ ‘I am better than him,’ he said. ‘You created me from fire and You created him from clay.’

(God) said, `What prevented you from submitting when I commanded you (to submit)?' (Iblis) said, `I am better than he (- the human being). You created me from fire whereas You created him from clay.

Said He, 'What prevented thee to bow thyself, when I commanded thee?' Said he, 'I am better than he; Thou createdst me of fire, and him Thou createdst of clay.

He (God) said: “What prevented you that you did not humble when I ordered you?” He said: “I am better than him, You created me from fire while You created him from clay.”

Your Lord then asked: "What prevented you from the prostration when I commanded you?" He replied: "I am better than Adam. You created me from fire, while Adam is made of mud [organic compound.]

God said, “What prevented you from bowing down when I asked you to?” He said, “I am better than he is. You created me from fire and him from mud.

(Allah) said What prevented you that not you prostrate when I commanded you (Shaitaan) said I am better than him You created me from fire and You created him from clay

(Allah) said: “What prevented you (O Iblis) that you did not prostrate when I commanded you?” (Iblis) said, “I am superior to him since you created me out of fire while you created him out of clay.”

He said: What prevented thee from prostrating thyself when I commanded thee? Satan said: I am better than he. Thou hadst created me of fire and Thou hadst created him of clay.

(Allah) said: ‘(O Iblis!) What inhibited you that you did not prostrate yourself when I commanded you?’ He said: ‘I am better than he. You have created me from fire and You have made him from clay.

(We) asked, "What kept you away? Why did you not fall prostrate when I commanded you?" (He) said, "I am better than he. You created me from fire while You have created him out of clay!"

Said He, 'What hinders thee from adoring when I order thee?' he said, 'I am better than he; Thou hast created me from fire, and him Thou hast created out of clay.

Said Allah, "What prevented you, that you did not prostrate when I commanded you?" Answered Iblis, "I am better than him; You created me from fire whereas You created him from clay."

He said, “What prevented you that you did not bow down when I commanded you?” He said, “I am better than him. You created me from fire and You created him from clay.”

God said unto him, what hindered thee from worshipping Adam, since I had commanded thee? He answered, I am more excellent than he: Thou hast created me of fire, and hast created him of clay

He (Allah) said, "What hinders you from prostration when I command you?" He (Iblis) said, "I am better than he; you have created me from Fire, and him you have created out of Clay."

He (Allah) asked: 'What prevented you to prostrate, when I commanded you? ' 'I am better than he, ' he replied. 'You created me of fire and You created him of clay.

(Allah) said: "What prevented you (O Iblees) that you did not prostrate, when I commanded you?" Iblees said: "I am better than him (Adam), You created me from fire, and him You created from clay."

He said: "What prevents you from bowing down when I have commanded you to [do so]?" He said: "I am better than he is; You created me from fire, while You created him from clay."

To him said God: "What hath hindered thee from prostrating thyself in worship at my bidding?" He said, "Nobler am I than he: me hast thou created of fire; of clay hast thou created him."

(Allah) asked, “What prevented you from bowing when I commanded you?” (Iblis) answered, “I am better than he; You created me from fire, and him from clay.”

Allah said: ´What prevented you from prostrating, when I commanded you to do so?´ He said: ´I am better than he. You created me from fire, and him You created from clay.´

He said: What hindered thee that thou didst not submit when I commanded thee? He said: I am better than he; thou hast created me of fire while him Thou didst create of dust

He (Allah) said, "What prevented you, that you did not bow down when I commanded you?" He (Iblis) said, "I am better than him, You created me from fire whereas You created him from clay."

Allah asked, "What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?" Iblees said, "I am better than he. You created me of fire, and You created him of dust."

He (God) said: "What prevented/stopped/forbid you, that you not prostrate when/if I ordered/commanded you?" He (the devil)said: "I am better than him, You created me from fire, and You created him from mud/clay ."

[And God] said: "What has kept thee from prostrating thyself when I commanded thee?" Answered [Iblis]: "I am better than he: Thou hast created me out of fire, whereas him Thou hast created out of clay."

Said He, "What prevented you from prostrating as I commanded you?" Said he, "I am more charitable (i.e. better) than he. You created me of fire, and You created him of clay."

He said: What hindered thee that thou didst not fall prostrate when I bade thee? (Iblis) said: I am better than him. Thou createdst me of fire while him Thou didst create of mud

God asked, "What made you disobey Me?" Satan replied, "I am better than Adam, for You have created me out of fire and Adam out of clay."

Allah said, .What has prevented you from prostrating when I ordered you?. He said, .I am better than him. You have created me of fire, and created him of clay

(The Lord) said: "What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?" ‘Iblīs’ (‘Satan’) said: "I am better than him. You have created me of fire while You have created him of clay.”

(The Lord) said: "What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?" ‘Iblīs’ said: "I am better than him. You created me of fire and him of clay.”

“What stopped you from prostrating when I commanded you?” Allah, Satan replied, “I am better than him since You created me from fire, and him from clay.”

Allah asked, “What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?” He replied, “I am better than he is: You created me from fire and him from clay.”

He said: what prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you? He said: I am better than him, You created me from fire and created him from clay.

Why did you not prostrate yourself when I commanded you?‘ He asked. ‘I am nobler than he,‘ he replied. ‘You created me from fire, but You created him from clay.‘

He said, "What prevented you from prostrating when I ordered you?" He said, "I am better than he; You created me from fire, and created him from mud."

[God] said, "What has stopped you from bowing down when I commanded you?" He answered, "I am better than him. You created me out of fire, but you only created him out of clay."

He said, “What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?” He (Satan) said, “I am better than him; You created me from a fire, and You created him from clay.”

God said, "What stopped you from being subservient when I ordered you?" Iblis responded, "I am better than he. You created me from fire, and him from clay." (Emotions are fiery in relation to sound judgment. The criterion of honor is not lineage, color, caste or nation. It is nothing but good conduct (49:13))

He said: What hindered you so that you did not prostrate when I commanded you? He said: I am better than he: Thou hast created me of fire, while him Thou didst create of dust

God said, `What prevented thee from submitting when I commanded thee?' He said, `I am better than he. Thou hast created me of fire while him hast thou created of clay.

(Allah) said: "What prevented you (O Satan) from bowing down when I Commanded you?" He (Satan) said: "I am better than he (Adam): You created me from Fire, and him (Adam) from clay."

He said: "What prevents you from bowing down when I have commanded you to [do so]?" He said: "I am better than he is; You created me from fire, while You created him from clay."

He asked, “What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?” He replied, “I am superior to him; You created me from fire, but You created him from mud.”

He said, 'What prevented you from bowing down when I have commanded you?' He said, 'I am better than he; You created me from fire, and You created him from mud.'

He said, “What prevented thee from prostrating when I commanded thee?” He said, “I am better than him. Thou hast created me from fire, while Thou hast created him from clay.

He said, 'What prevented you that you did not prostrate when I commanded you?' He said, 'I am better than him; you have created me of fire, and you created him of clay.'

[ Allah ] said, "What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?" [Satan] said, "I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay."

God asked, What prevented you from prostrating yourself when I commanded you to? He replied, I am better than he is; You created me from fire, while You created him from clay

(Allah) said: "What prevented thee from prostrating when I commanded thee?" He said: "I am better than he: Thou didst create me from fire, and him from clay."
